Charles Wesley “Mose” Tyler of Winfield, formerly of Charleston, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, after a short illness.
He was a lifelong resident of West Virginia. He retired after 25 years of employment at the West Virginia Brick Plant. He also had his own business, Tyler's Refuge Service. He also worked for Pinkerton Security Company for 13 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Icie M. Tyler, and children, Richard Tyler, Mary E. Vance, William Tyler, Janet Parsons and Barbara Goff.
Surviving: wife, Darlene; children, Robert Tyler, Lillian Diamond, Joan Truslow and Charles W. Tyler Jr.; 40 grandchildren; approximately 200 great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Hissom Jr. officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
J. Craig Barnette
J. Craig Barnette, 46, of Hurricane died May 26, 2005.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, is in charge of arrangements.
Wanda Gail Randolph
Wanda Gail Morton Randolph, 65, of Midway died Monday, June 6, 2005, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Charleston, a daughter of the late Norvil U. Morton and the late Edith Whittington Harper. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Donald Riley Randolph, and sisters, Dorothy Morrisette of California and Barbara Kang of Teays Valley.
She was a graduate of Nitro High School and a former co-owner of Jackson County Home Center, Ravenswood. She worked for many years as an independent designer. She was a member of Nitro Church of Christ, where she volunteered her time putting clothing baskets together for newborns at local hospitals.
Surviving: sons and their wives, Mark E. and Julie of Hurricane, Barry L. and Tammy of Beavercreek, Ohio, Brent R. and Teresa, also of Beavercreek, and Roger Call and Mary Beth of Naples, Florida; daughters and their husbands, Terri Gordon and Gene of Naples, Florida, Lorie Karbley and David of Taylorsville, North Carolina; stepmother, Virgie Morton of Poca; brothers and their wives, Norvil “Doc” Morton and Suzanne of Hurricane, Jess Morton and Roberta of Ravenswood, and Bill Morton and Joan of Midway; sister and her husband, Glenna Tucker and Michael of Millwood; 11 grandsons; five granddaughters; one great-grandchild; special friends, Helen and Gary Arthur of Bancroft; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Service was held Friday, June 10, 2005, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Minister Craig Culberston officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Ernest Messinger
Ernest Messinger, 85, of Hurricane died June 10, 2005.
He was a former resident of Lincoln County, where he worked as a barber for over 45 years. He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church of Hurricane. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Hamlin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lee Vance Messinger, his parents, George and Rosa Messinger, brothers, Cecil Kess, Wendell, Edward and Cleo Messinger, and sisters, Estelle Childers and Lelia Clark.
Surviving: brother, Ray Messinger of Indianapolis, Indiana; daughter, Barbara Kearns of Winfield; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Kathy Messinger of Hurricane; grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff and Emily Kearns of Red House, Stacey and John Ellis of Barboursville, Jason and Melanie Kearns of Hurricane, Leann and Allen Taylor of Eleanor; eight great-grandchildren; a host of very special friends, relatives and neighbors.
Service was held Monday, June 13, 2005, at Handley's Funeral Home, Hamlin, with the Rev. Gerry White officiating. A graveside service and burial with military honors was in Triplett Cemetery, Pleasant View.

Louise Keyser Hagley Adkins, 87, of Barboursville passed away Friday, June 10, 2005, in Mariner Health Care. Funeral service were conducted at 2 p.m Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor David Cardwell. Burial in Baylous Cemetery. She was born April 7, 1918, in Lincoln County, a daughter of the late Albert and Inez Adkins Keyser. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tiny Hagley; second husband, Jinks Adkins; and one son, William “”Butch” Hagley. She is survived by her son Richard “Dick” Hagley of Huntington; one brother Allen Keyser of Charleston, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Sherri Hatten and Richard Dale Hagley; and several nieces and nephews.

Eva Emmalene Finley, 83, of Milton passed away Friday June 10, 2005, in St Mary's Medical Center. Graveside services were conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, June, 14, 2005, in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Eva was born November 2, 1921, in Milton, a daughter of the late John and Tena Conner Finley. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Larry King; one son, Jimmy Ray Hatfield; four grandchildren Johnathan King and wife, Jessie, Emiley and James Hatfield and Becky Laywell; two sisters Imogene Dailey and Inez Burch; and a special cousin, Judy Jackson. John Benjamin Gentry
John Benjamin Gentry, 93, of Milton passed away Thursday, June 9, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center. A memorial service was conducted 1 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2005, in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, with Cheryl Winter officiating. John was born April 23,1912, in Green County, Virginia, a son of the late John and Blanche Jolliett Gentry. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Gentry and grandson, Andy Farmer. He served his country in World War II in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of the Elks Lodge. He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Steve and Judy Gentry and Phillip Genty; one daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Joe Farmer; five grandchildren, Scott Gentry, Jarrod Gentry, Jackie Gentry, Mark Farmer and Jenny Keaton; three great-grandchildren, Joshua Gentry, Ben Keaton and Eli Keaton; and one sister, Mary Eye. Harold Russell “Rod” Brookover
Harold Russell “Rod” Brookover, 82, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away in St. Mary's Medical Center Thursday June 9, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Henson Mortuary, Pea Ridge Road, Huntington, by the Rev. Jerry Harrah. Interment in Lincoln Memorial Park, Hamlin, W.Va. He was born May 2, 1923, in Hamlin, W.Va., son of the late Abraham Presley and Virginia Augustus McMellon Brookover. A graduate of Marshall University, he was a retired food broker for R.T. French Co. Mr. Brookover was a member of Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church, Barboursville; American Legion Post #177, Barboursville School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Jean Sutton Brookover; daughters Sue B. Stilwell, home and Robby Jo Barton of Martinsburg, W.Va.; son Wade Presley Brookover of Indian Trail, N.C.; grandchildren, Shoshona Barton, Heather Barton, Spc. Caressa Barton, Jennifer Nicole, Priscilla Annarose, and Benjamin Presley Brookover, and a nephew, Douglas Graham and his wife, Tommie, of Cincinnati.
John James Bourn II
John James Bourn II, 48, of Milton, W.Va., slipped from this life peacefully Thursday, June 9, 2005, at his home. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Fellowship Baptist Church by the Rev. John Bourn and Dr. Jerry Warren. Burial in Forest Memorial Park. He was born on June 20, 1956, in Gassaway, W.Va., a son of the Rev. John James Bourn and Flossie “Helen” Skidmore Bourn. He was preceded in death by infant twins, Jonny and Jenny. He was a deacon emeritus, Sunday School teacher, and member of Fellowship Baptist Church, a 1974 graduate of Nitro High School, a 1978 graduate of Bob Jones University, and graduated in 1987 with a M.B.A. from Lynchburg College. He was an accountant and retired due to illness, Myotonic Dystrophy. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Legg Bourn; two daughters, Laura and Christy Bourn of Milton; one brother, Gary Paul Bourn of Milton; sister-in-law, Lee Ann Black and her husband, Randy, of Milton; brother-in-law Mike Legg of Milton; two nieces, Amanda Black Chapman and her husband, Bryan, and Ashley Black all of Milton; nephew Anthony Bourn of Lynchburg, Va.; two great-nieces and one great-nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Curry. He was the founder and operator of Holbrook's Garage and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. Perry Layne Holton, 49, of Salt Rock passed away Monday, June 6, 2005, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor David Cardwell. Burial in Baylous Cemetery, Salt Rock. He was born July 12, 1955, a son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Evelyn Adkm Holton. He was a retired employee of Sturm Machine Shop. He is survived by one son, Kenneth Perry Holton of Huntington; four sisters, Wanda Adkins and Betty White , both of Salt Rock, Sue Adkins of Barboursville and Elizabeth Holton of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Lonnie and Larry Holton, both of Salt Rock; several nieces and nephews. Robert W. “Bob” Jividen, 42, of Red House died Monday, May 30, 2005, at Thomas Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
He was a long distance trucker with 10 years of service, attended Winfield Community Church, and was a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Harper Jividen, paternal grandfather, Bracil Jividen, and his maternal grandparents, Emory and Alice Harper.
Survivors: father, Delbert Jividen of Red House; paternal grandmother, Macil Jividen; brother, Glen Michael “Mike” Jividen of Red House; sister, Connie Stover of Red House; three nephews.
Service was held Friday, June 3, 2005, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Mike Rader and the Rev. Ronnie Tucker officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.
Charles Chandler
Charles “Chuck” Chandler, 70, of Hurricane died May 27, 2005 at St. Mary's Medical Center, as a result of complications from heart surgery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil “Si” Chandler and Marjorie Chandler Bruffy, his stepfather, Joe Bruffy, and his brother, Jim Chandler.
He retired from Union Carbide with 33 years of employment as a technology specialist, teaching ultrasound and X-ray. He worked in the Kanawha Valley, Brazil and Georgia. He was president of the Tri-State section ASNT, where he received the W.R. Nichols Award for distinguished service. He also started the ASNT chapter at Fairmont State. He received numerous other awards while employed by Union Carbide.
He was a devoted member of Scott Depot Christ Fellowship, where he served as an assistant head usher for year.s He graduated from St. Albans High School. He served in the 130th Division of the Air National Guard.
Surviving: his wife of 49 1/2 years, Gaynor Ray Chandler; daughters, Renee Young and Robyn Davis and husband, Jack; brother, Eddie Chandler and wife, Patty; sisters, Doris Waddill and husband, Charles, Phyllis Walker and husband, Richard; grandsons, Evan and Ethan Young, Matt, Jared and Bryan Davis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Service was held Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at Scott Depot Christ Fellowship with Dr. Rodney Taylor, the Rev. Larry Hammett and the Rev. Dennis Trimble officiating. Entombment was in Cunningham Memorial Park Mausoleum, St. Albans. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Hershel O. Cottrell
Hershel Odell Cottrell, 85, of Hurricane died May 28, 2005, at Regency Place, Scott Depot.
He was a retired electrician with Goodyear. He attended the First Baptist Church of Hurricane, where he served as trustee. He was a Democratic Committeeman from Putnam County, and was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Putnam County Fair Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Addie Harbours Cottrell, and brothers, Carson, Randall and Forrest Cottrell.
Surviving: his wife of 62 years, Ruby Johnson Cottrell; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and James Harper of St. Albans; son and daughter-in-law, Judson and Bobbie Cottrell of Scott Depot; brother, Harvey Cottrell of Hurricane; four grandchildren.
Service was held Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, with the Rev. James McGehee officiating. Interment was in White Chapel Memorial Garden, Barboursville
Helen L. Taylor
Helen Louise Taylor, 80, of Nitro died May 25, 2005, at Teays Center, Hurricane.
Born January 20, 1925 in Putnam County, she was the daughter of the late John Bruce and Hattie Virginia Jackson Doss. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Monty Taylor, and her son, James Cloied Alford.
She was retired from Deihl's Restaurant, Nitro.
Surviving: daughter and her husband, Cheryl and Jerry Carr of Eastlake, Ohio; sisters, Doris Setliff of Virginia and Inez Young of Culloden; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Service was held Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.
