Virginia Louise Nicholson, 78 of Westover died Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Madison Nursing Home where she had been a resident for several years.
Virginia was born March 23, 1932 in Morgantown a daughter of the late Homer and Anna Davis.
Virginia was a very active person in her earlier years. She owned and operated the Suzy-Q Restaurant in Westover for many years, was very active in the Westover VFW, and served as President of the VFW Ladies Auxilliary for many years. Virginia enjoyed playing bingo and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren. She was a Methodist by faith.
Virginia is survived by, two sons, Larry Haines of Morgantown and John Haines and wife Karen of Louisville, KY, two daughters, Cheryl Blue of Clarksburg, and Suzann Bane and husband Ron of Morgantown, her first husband, Allen Haines and wife Nina of Morgantown, two sisters Barbara Davis of Westover and Betty Lou Wolfe and husband Lloyd of Westover, one step-son Ed Nicholson of Tampa, FL, eleven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Virginia was preceded in death by her second husband, Clarence “Nick” Nicholson, a son Kenneth Robert Haines, one sister, Madaline Bates, three brothers, Homer Davis, Harold Davis, and Donald “Bucky” Davis, and a son-in-law Richard Blue.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home from 3-5 & 7-9 PM Friday and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the McCulla Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Cain officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.

Richard Arlin “Dick” Nolan, 70, of Murrells Inlet, SC, formerly of Morgantown, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009 after a lengthy illness. He was born August 31, 1939 in Morgantown, a son of the late Jean Strawser Nolan and Lawrence Nolan.
A graduate of University High in 1958, Richard enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Korea. While living in Morgantown, he worked in the insurance business, was a partner in Deron Corp., and owned a trucking company with his son.
For several years, he was a member of the Morgantown Jaycees and coached a Wesmon youth baseball team. He was an avid golfer and, in his spare time, enjoyed restoring Corvettes.
He is survived by his companion, Lynn Horting of SC; his son, Richard Keith Nolan of Arthurdale; two grandsons, Richie and Zach; a daughter-in-law, Susan Nolan of Kingwood; two sisters, Ruth Nolan Mullins and husband Edwin Whisler, and Jackie Nolan Millione and husband Ron of Florida; several nieces and nephews; and Keith’s mother, Pat Reese.
The family will receive friends at the McCulla Funeral Home on Friday, December 18 from 6 until the 7 p.m. memorial service with Rev. Dr. Gary Helms officiating. At the request of the deceased, cremation services were held in SC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dick Nolan Memorial Fund, c/o First United Bank and Trust, 1951 Hunters Way, Morgantown, WV 26505

Susan Madsen Oliverio, age 45 of Tremont Street, Morgantown passed away Monday, September 01, 2008 at UPMC Hospital in Pittsburgh after an extended illness. She was born June 13, 1963 in Key West, FL a daughter of the late Walter James and Eileen Marie Blaisdell Madsen.
Susan was a sales consultant for Comcast Cable in Morgantown and was a Christian by faith.
Susan is survived by two sons, Mario Oliverio and Alec Oliverio both at home and their father Peter Oliverio of Bridgeport, two sisters, Wendy Amos of Greenville, IL and Beth Madsen of Stroudsburg, PA, four brothers, Bruce Chabot of Charlotte, NC, Walt Madsen of Minneapolis, MN, Keal Madsen of Clarksville, TN, and Richard Madsen of Fairmont, her grandmother, Susan Brown of North Kingston, RI, a close family friend, Steve Jones of Morgantown, several nieces and nephews and one great niece and one great nephew.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 PM and from 6:00 PM until the 7:30 PM funeral service with Pastor Clay Jarrell officiating. Graveside services will be held on Thursday at 11:30 AM at the Bridgeport Cemetery.

Bennie F. Palmer age 79 of Mulberry Street, Morgantown passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Wishing Well Manor in Fairmont. He was born March 13, 1929 in Wyano, Pa a son of the late Nick and Mary Fanti Palmer.
Bennie spent most of his time in law enforcement, serving as Morgantown Police Chief from 1969-78 before retiring in 1985. He previously served as a deputy sheriff for Clarence Johnson and was also employed as a maintenance director for the County transportation department. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Bennie is survived by his wife of 45 years, Maxine Hilling Palmer, one daughter and spouse, Madalena and Daniel Hutcheson of TN, one brother and spouse, Nicholas and Cathy Palmer of Morgantown and his furry four-legged grandchildren, his dog Austen and cat Arwen.
One brother, James N. Palmer, preceded Bennie in death.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Sunday at the McCulla Funeral Home and on Monday at St Mary’s Catholic Church from 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial with Father John DiBacco as celebrant. Burial will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery.

Maxine L. Palmer of Mulberry Street Morgantown and wife of former Morgantown Police Chief, Bennie Palmer passed away Monday, March 2, 2009 a t Gallatin Health Care in Gallatin, TN. Maxine was born November 16, 1933 in Morgantown a daughter of the late George and Clara Brewer Hilling.
Maxine retired from the telephone company business office. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Maxine is survived by one daughter and spouse, Madalena and Daniel Hutcheson of Portland, TN, one sister and spouse, Norma and Franklin Wolfe of Morgantown, one brother and spouse, Kenneth and Helen Hilling of Princeton, WV, her brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Cathy Palmer of Morgantown, her “grand dog” a basset hound named Austen and her “grand cat” named Arwen.
Her husband, Bennie F. Palmer, one sister Lorraine Brafford, and one brother, Elwood Hilling, preceded her in death.
Friends may call at from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday at the McCulla Funeral Home and on Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial with Father John V. DiBacco as celebrant. Burial will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery. The family request donations be made to any animal shelter.

Doris Jean Parker, 84, of New York Avenue, Westover passed away on July 19, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born in Fairchance, PA on March 29, 1926, a daughter of the late Charles and Martha Maust McKinney.
She took pride in her family and was a homemaker. She enjoyed working with ceramics and attended the Fort Martin United Methodist Church.
Doris is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Parker; a son James R. Enoch and his wife Susie, of Granville; one sister Rita Brown of Parkersburg; one sister-in-law Lois McKinney of Westover; one grandchild Kenneth Enoch and his wife Theresa of Westover; and two great grandchildren Parker and Kaylynn of Westover.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cheryl Lee Parker; two brothers Gerald McKinney and Pete McKinney; and one brother-in-law Jim Brown.
In honor of Doris’ wishes, McCulla Funeral home provided cremation services. There will be a graveside service at Beverly Hills Cemetery on Thursday at 10 am with Pastor Alan Flaitz officiating.

Kenneth E. Parker, 84, of New York Ave., Westover passed away August 10, 2010 at home. He was born on February 13,1926 a son of the late Curtis and Mary Everly Parker.
Kenneth was in the US Army and served during World War II and was a lifetime member of the Westover VFW #9919 and the American Legion in Mount Morris. He attended the Fort Martin United Methodist Church and was a retired pipe fitter and a 55 year member of Local #152.
Kenneth is survived by one son James R. Enoch, and his wife, Susie, one sister Lois Virginia Snodgrass, one grandson Kenneth Enoch and his wife, Theresa, and two great grandchildren Kaylynn and Parker.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean McKinney Parker, who died on July 19, 2010, one daughter Cheryl Lee Parker, and one brother Charles F. Parker.
In honor of Kenneth’s wishes, cremation services will be provided by McCulla Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at Beverly Hills Cemetery on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Alan Flaitz officiating.

Samuel M. Parrotta, age 83 of Cowell Street, Westover passed away Sunday, September 21, 2008 at his home. He was born April 26, 1925 in Morgantown a son of the late Joseph and Thresa Leo Parrotta.
Sam was the owner and operator of Westover Paving for over thirty years and was an active and longtime member of the Westover Lions Club. Sam was always willing to help anyone at any time and was a loving owner of his pets.
Sam is survived by one son, Sam Jr. and wife Linda of Star City, one step-son and spouse, Carolyn and Buzz Reaville of Morgantown, one step-son and spouse, Donald and Minnie Cost of Star City, two brothers, John Parrotta and Richard Parrotta, both of Laurel Point, three sisters, Elizabeth Saluga of Uniontown, Angeline Preporecca and Pauline Spooner both of Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
His wife Mildred Parrotta, four brothers, Felix Parrotta, Joseph Parrotta, Frank Parrotta, and Tony Parrotta, and two sisters, Rose Parrotta and Margaret Calamine preceded Sam in death.
Friends may call from 3-5 & 7-9 PM Tuesday at the McCulla Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the McCulla Funeral Home with Rev. Junior Koon officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.

George Pastor age 73 of Arbogast Lane, Morgantown passed away Monday, August 4, 2008 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born August 12, 1934 in Jere a son of the late John and Mary Erdo Pastor.
George received a Bachelor of Science Degree and and MBA both from San Diego State University. He was employed at General Dynamics Space Systems Division in San Diego, CA with thirty-three years of service. He retired in 1989 as Group Supervisor of Financial Planning. He served with the United States Navy during the Korean War and his hobbies were cooking and gardening. George was Catholic by faith.
George is survived by his wife of 27 years Anna May Miller Pastor, two sons David Pastor of San Diego, CA and Steve Pastor and wife Kelly of San Diego, CA, three grandchildren and one great grandson all of San Diego, CA.
George was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Morgan, Mary Fagula, and Helen Wiles, and one brother, Joseph Pastor.
Friends may call from 3-5 & 7-9 PM Wednesday at the McCulla Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at the McCulla Funeral Home with Father Leon Alexander officiating. Burial will follow at Zoar Cemetery.

Goldie E. Hanlan Paugh, age 90, of Scottsdale Rd., Fairmont died Monday, March 2, 2009 at Ruby Memorial Hospital with her family at her side. Goldie was born September 20, 1918 in Oakmont, WV, the daughter of the late Frank H. and Mary B. Whitacre Hanlan.
Goldie was a member of the Arnettsville U.M. Church. She enjoyed traveling with friends, playing cards, cleaning house, and was active in the Everettsville Senior Center when it was still in operation. Goldie enjoyed volunteering with her friend Ruth Herndon at the Sundale Nursing Home where they entertained patients.
Goldie is survived by three daughters and spouses, Helen and Pete Fisher of Fairmont, Dottie and Clifford Porter of Middle River, MD, and Eleanor and Mike Wolner of Ravena, OH; a son, Clifford Paugh of Ravena, OH; one sister and spouse, Mary F. and Leonard Novak of Richfield, OH; and sister-in-law Julia Hanlan of Cleveland, OH; six grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Goldie was preceded in death by her husband William Ray Paugh; two brothers, Clifford Hanlan and Dewey Hanlan; and one sister, Eva Fridley Chepus.
Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the McCulla Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the McCulla Funeral Home with Rev. Sandra Firth officiating. Burial will follow at Arnettsville Cemetery.
