Elizabeth “Betty” Throckmorton, age 76, of Westover was taken Home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 5, 2010. She was born October 31, 1933 in Cassville, a daughter of the late Warren and Golda Clevenger Welch. Betty was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church. Betty was active at the Westover Senior Center and her favorite pastime was spending time with family and helping others.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Nancy Lough and husband Kim of Star City; two sons, Joseph A. Throckmorton and wife Debra of Morgantown and John D. Throckmorton and wife Heather of Frederick, MD; four grandchildren, Craig Lough, Steve Lough and wife Shannon, Angela Contic and husband Mike and Amber Swanger and husband Michael; and great grandchildren, Nathan Lough, Sydney and Sarah Lough, Maysa and Araya Contic, and Hope and Grant Swanger; and sisters-in-law, Jolene Welch, Dortha Welch and Martha Finamore.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Roy Throckmorton Jr., two brothers, George Welch and Leroy Welch, who had passed away on Jan. 2.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday at the McCulla Funeral and on Thursday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at McCulla Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Cain and Rev. Larry Peters officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Betty’s name to the Riverside United Methodist Church, 336 Monongahela Ave, Westover, WV 26501.

Maxine J. Carter Tichenor, 86, of Morgantown, WV was called home by our Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 29, 2010.
She was born on March 15, 1924 to parents Clarence E. (Pete) Carter and Retta A. Pugh Carter in Monongalia County, WV.
She was a graduate of University High School, class of 1943. She and her husband, John, married in Oakland, MD on June 30, 1949. They recently celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Maxine had been employed at several retail stores in the Morgantown area. She also worked as a cook at several local schools including Suncrest Jr. High School and Waitman Barbe Jr. High School. She enjoyed painting, cooking, reading, studying the Bible and attending Church.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family.
She is survived by her husband John W. Tichenor, three daughters, Barbara and Monsel Herron; Joyce and Michael Blosser; and Caroline Tichenor Roupe all of Morgantown; grandchildren include, Michelle Malone; Angela Bosley; David Herron; Andrew “AJ” Blosser, Robert Roupe, Tammy Hilling, and Michael Roupe, all of Morgantown, and Patrick of Auburn, GA.
She is survived by one brother Clarence Carter and wife Barbara of Morgantown.
She is also survived by her loving great-grandchildren, Kady Malone, Emily Malone, Julie Malone and Conner Malone all of Morgantown; Bobbi Roupe, Angela Roupe, Jimmy Roupe, Robert (Robbie) Roupe, Eddie Conner and Tara Hilling all of Pennsylvania; Chad Roupe and Ashley Roupe of Auburn, GA; and six great great-grandchildren, as well as several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Gladys Uphold; her brother Ray Vance Carter; a grandson, Paul E. Roupe; and her great-niece, Jennifer Raymond.
Maxine was loved and supported by several devoted caregivers whose assistance and friendship will always be remembered and cherished by her family.
Family and friends will be received at McCulla Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 from 4-7 PM and on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 1-2 PM. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 2 PM at the McCulla Funeral Home with Rev. William Page officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corporation, 3363 University Ave., Morgantown, WV 26505.

Ray Tichenor Jr. age 82 of Cleveland Avenue, Westover passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010 at his home. He was born June 15, 1928 in Philippi a son of the late Ray N. and Maude Beatty Tichenor.
Ray had been employed by Wayne Insulation in Northern Virginia and retired from JC Penny. Ray served with the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and VFW both in Northern Virginia.
Ray is survived by one daughter, Shirley Goggin- Allen of Westover, two sisters, Isabelle Rowan of Morgantown and Martha Sal of Westover, one brother, John Tichenor of Hildebrand, two grandchildren, Paul Goggin of Georgia and Krista Lepp of Virginia and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Lepp and Kameryn Lepp.
Ray was preceded in death by one son, David Tichenor.
Honoring Ray’s wishes private burial was held at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown.

Britnee Jo Trentini joined her loved ones in Heaven on September 26, 2010 at home. She was born February 13, 1991 in Morgantown. She is the daughter of Rick Trentini and Tandala Trentini Springer and step-daughter of J.R. Springer.
Britnee enjoyed jet skiing, kayaking, and all other water sports.
In addition to her parents, Britnee is survived by her brother, Seth Trentini of Maidsville; paternal grandparents, Beno Trentini of Bruceton Mills and Kay Furman and her husband Guy of Cheat Lake; maternal grandparents, Betty Jo Weber of Maidsville and “Butch” Arthur Webber and his wife Kim of Morgantown; step-grandparents Jim and Deborah Springer, of Westover; a step-great grandmother Blanche Leonard of Westover, a step-great grandmother, Bernice Hardway of Fairmont; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. She will also be missed by her faithful, canine companions, Chloe and Rufus.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home from 6-9 PM on Wednesday and also from 10 AM to the 1 PM service on Thursday at the McCulla Funeral Home with Pastor Rose Saunders officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.

Donald Glenn Vandergrift, age 78 of Jacksonville, FL formerly of Morgantown passed away Saturday, April 11, 2009 in Jacksonville. He was born March 2, 1931 in Laurel Point a son of Opal Pauline Newbraugh Vandergrift of Morgantown and the late Haymond B. Vandergrift.
Donald was a 1949 graduate of University High School, had been employed at Montgomery Ward in Morgantown and Jacksonville, FL and was a Methodist by faith. He loved his flowers, gardening, and was an avid cane collector.
In addition to his mother, Donald is survived by his wife Helen K. “Susie” Vandergrift, and one brother, Burl Vandergrift and wife Joan of Salisbury, MD.
Friends may call from 3-5 & 7-9 PM Thursday at the McCulla Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at the McCulla Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Tomlinson officiating. Burial will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery.

Damion Vannoy, loving son, giving brother, and amazing friend, passed away on Saturday 8 October, from natural causes. Damion was 33 and is survived by his father Mark F. Vannoy of Core, his mother Elizabeth L. Vannoy of Wana, and his sister Autumn R. Gonzales of Core. Damion was preceded by his grandparents Kate and Forest Vannoy of Core, Stanley Rose and Betty (Rose) Corder of Wana, and his step-grandfather Ray Corder of Wana. Damion will be deeply missed by so many as he was known for his distinct laugh, energetic smile, humor, generosity, and tireless devotion to the NY Jets. The loss of this lifelong Mountaineer fan will truly be felt across the community from his family, especially his 2 nieces whom he adored, to the nearly endless amount of those he called: 'friend'.

Funeral services will be held at McCulla Funeral Home on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 11 am with Pastors Bill and Susie Rager officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery. Those who knew Damion know how he enjoyed dressing casually, so please, in honor of him, come casually dressed. In lieu of flowers, family requests that monetary tributes be made in his memory to McCulla Funeral Home.

Frank William Volk, Sr., 86, a resident of Westover, WV passed away on Friday, November 12, 2010 after a prolonged illness. He was born June 18, 1924 in Stoyestown, PA to Anton Volk and Mary Glazer Volk.
Frank became a Knight of the Golden Horseshoe in 1938. He graduated from Valley High School, Masontown, WV, in 1942. A World War II Veteran, he was a Sergeant in the United States Army. A member of the 100th Bomber Group of the Eighth Air Force, he was based at Thorpe-Abbot, England. As a Ball Turret Gunner, he flew 35 missions over Germany. Frank received seven air medals for his service and was discharged in 1945 from Wright-Patterson Air Field in Ohio.
Frank was a business man who owned and operated many successful ventures in partnership with his wife: the former Westover Distributors and currently, Boulevard Mobile Homes, among them. He was still active in business at the time of his death. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Star City, WV. He also held membership in the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus, Morgantown Elks Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Moose Lodge.
Part of the American Dream is to improve one's station in life by hard work and personal sacrifice. Frank pursued that end from his tender years until well into his eighties. It was commonplace over many decades for Frank to work beyond the "sun-up-to-sun-down" boundaries that others regard as the outer limits of industriousness. Through his church, his volunteer firefighting service, and his Knights of Columbus membership, among other commendable endeavors, Frank was also faithful in contributing his time, talents, and treasures to many worthy charitable causes.
Frank is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jessie E. Volk; a daughter, Mary Angela Swisher and husband Wayne of Westover, WV; two sons, David Volk of Melbourne, FL; and Frank Volk, Jr. and wife Angie of Cross Lanes, WV; three grandchildren, Andrew Swisher, Garrett Volk, and Lauren Volk; a sister, Margaret Ursic; and two brothers, Edward Volk and Joseph Volk.
Frank was preceded in death by a dear son, Thomas A. Volk; his parents, Anton and Mary Volk; and a sister, Rose Gerard.
Friends may call at St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Star City, on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a wake service at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. James O’Connor officiating on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the St. Mary’s Peace Mausoleum with graveside military services provided by the Westover VFW Post # 9916 and WVANG military funeral honors, Camp Dawson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Ursula’s Food Pantry. McCulla Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Clarence F. Wade, 77, originally from the Cassville-Morgantown area, passed away after a long and difficult battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 06, 2009 at The Golden Living Center in Morgantown with family by his side. Clarence recently moved back to Morgantown after living 35 years in Pikeville, Kentucky. Clarence was born on August 18th, 1931, in Morgantown to the late Jarrett F. and Mabel Wise Wade.
Clarence was a veteran of the Marine Corp and a retired mine foreman and Federal mine inspector. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion. Clarence lived life to the fullest and was always known for his ability to shoot pool and to make people laugh by sharing his jokes.
Clarence is survived by two daughters and son-in-laws; Rebecca and Charles Davenport, of Morgantown; and Joyce and Fred Long, of Ocala, Florida, one son, Randy Wade, and his companion Sandy McGilton, of Independence; and four grandchildren. He also left behind several close friends in Pikeville, Kentucky, including a very dear friend, Argentina Iricks.
In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by his two brothers, Kenneth and Gerald Wade.
The family wishes to thank The Golden Living Center, TLC Hospice and The Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center for their extraordinary care for Clarence during his illness.
As per Clarence’s wishes, cremation services were provided by McCulla Funeral Home. Also, per his request, a private memorial service will be held for the family.

David Kendall Wade, age 77 of McFarland Run Road, Hagans passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born November 20, 1932 in Monongalia County a son of the late Arbeth Roy and Thelma Eddy Wade.
Always a patriot, David served as a Monongalia County Deputy Sheriff for 29 years and was a United States Marine Corps Veteran. David also enjoyed the farm life. He loved his horses and restoring military vehicles and farm tractors. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all.
David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wilma Jane Warnick Wade, two daughters Lisa Kay Mayfield and husband Larry of Silver Springs, FL and Laura Lea Medero and the late Mario Medero, M.D. of Ocala, FL, one son David “Clint” Wade and wife Carole of Hagans, one sister Karen Takash of Hagans, two brothers, Arbeth Wade Jr. of Moorefield, and Gary Lynn Wade of Georgetown, and grandchildren Connor Wade Mayfield, Zachary Wayne Mayfield, Hunter Rose Medero, Taylor Wade Medero and David Marcus Medero.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3-5 & 7-9 PM and on Wednesday from Noon until the 1:00 PM funeral service with Rev. Nathaniel Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens with graveside military services conducted by the Westover VFW Post # 9916 and the WVANG Military Funeral Honors, Camp Dawson. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in David’s memory to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 901 E. Street NW Suite 100, Washington DC 20004-2025 or www.NLEOMF.org.

Bertie Jo Walden, age 73 of Gahanna, Ohio formerly of Granville passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008 in Gahanna. She was born April 15, 1934 in Morgantown a daughter of the late Guy L. Cesa and Elsie Gutshall Cesa.
Bertie was a retired Glass Decorator from Davis-Lynch Glass Company in Star City. Bertie loved making ceramics and also teaching others to make them.
She is survived by two daughters, Darla Walden of Rainelle, WV and Deborah Panepinto and husband Daniel of Gahanna, Ohio, two grandchildren, Eric Panepinto and Alicia Panepinto and one great granddaughter, Nylina Mendoza.
Her husband Richard Walden preceded Bertie in death,
