Betty J. Barker
Betty J. Barker (nee Prunty), 70, of North Ridgeville, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2010, at her home, following an extended illness. Born in Sutton, West Virginia, she had been a resident of North Ridgeville for the past five years, moving from Cleveland.
Betty worked for Mueller Electric in Cleveland, retiring in the late 1980’s after 35 years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing poker and spending time with family especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Paul (Helen) Barker of Columbia Station; former husband, Brownie Barker of North Ridgeville; grandson, James (Kim) Barker of North Ridgeville; granddaughter, with whom Betty made her home, Heather (Alex) Cruz of North Ridgeville; great-grandchildren, Carlos, Julian, Johnny, Brandon, Austin, Teagan and Abbigale; sisters, Reva Turner of Christiansburg, Virginia, Irene Workman of Ancram, New York, Pearl McCracken of Rayland and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hoy and Rosa Prunty and several brothers and sisters.
Burial will be Memorial weekend in Popular Ridge Cemetery, Sutton, West Virginia.

Hollie Coe Nottingham
Hollie Coe Nottingham, 79, of Frametown, passed away November 22, 2010.
He was born December 29, 1930 at Frametown a son of the late Benjamin and Iva E. Stanley Nottingham.
He worked for the Braxton County Board of Education and was an Army and Air Force veteran.
Surviving are; son, Kenneth Nottingham of Fayetteville, NC; granddaughter, Donna Marie Nottingham of Wilmington, OH; great grandchildren,Dominic, Devin, Ashley and Anthony.
Service was 1 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway. Burial with military rites was in the Reip Cemetery, Frametown.
Friends called from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Earl O. Higginbotham
Earl O. Higginbotham, 82 of Hurricane, WV went to his heavenly home on January 23, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. He was born January 24, 1932, the son of Otis and Virgie Higginbotham who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Zelda Barnett, two brothers, Charles Higginbotham and Denver Higginbotham and an infant brother, Roy Higginbotham.Earl was a lifelong resident of Putnam County and a faithful member of the Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church for 48 years. He loved to sing in the choir and had sung with the Singing Reynolds Family several years ago. “Pops” loved the Lord and was a man of integrity who lived that way in front of his family, friends and coworkers.An avid Mountaineer fan, he enjoyed a good game of golf every chance he got especially with his brother, Ray who was also his best friend. His favorite hobby was providing a home for purple martins every spring.Earl retired from Central Rebuild Shop in South Charleston and had also been a longtime employee of Avtex Fibers/American Viscose in Nitro. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in Germany during the Korean War.Earl is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Deloris (Rummell) Higginbotham, a daughter Debra (Randy) Meadows of St. Albans, a son David (Patti) Higginbotham of Hurricane, granddaughters, Amber (Brian) Dempsey of Lynchburg, VA, Sarah Meadows of St. Albans, and grandsons, Andrew, Bryan and Shawn Higginbotham of Hurricane, and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are brothers Ray (Jeanne) Higginbotham of Eleanor, Harvey (Janice) Higginbotham of Cleveland, OH, and a sister Lucille Thornton of Eleanor, along with a host of nieces and nephews.A tribute to the life of Earl Higginbotham will be at the Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, January 25 at 2:00 pm with Pastors John Smith and Jared Shumate officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven of Rest Mausoleum in Hometown. The family will receive friends at 12:30 prior to the service.

Mr. Ray Burdette
Mr. Ray M. Burdette,86 of Rock Branch passed away January 7, 2015 in the Hubbard Hospice House West.
Mr. Burdette is retired from Logan Corp. and a former 28 year employee of Viscose. He is an Army Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict and a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Sonia L. Burdette; son Donald Burdette of Rock Branch; twin sister Faye Grady of Rock Branch; three grandchildren Christina Craig, Matthew Burdette and Benjamin Burdette; two great grandchildren Monica Craig and Haley Craig and a host of nieces and nephews.
A tribute to the life of Mr. Ray Burdette will be 1:00 PM Friday January 9, 2015 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joey Scarberry officiating. Burial will follow in the Burdette Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Hospice.

Mr. Frederick Boggs
Frederick LeMasters “Fred” Boggs, age 87 , of Charleston, passed away Sunday January 4, 2015 at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston.
He was born May 30, 1927 in Clay County, WV, son of the late Hugh and Carrie Anne Boggs. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Jean Boggs; and two brothers Hugh H. Boggs Jr. and Gail Boggs.
Fred started working for Union Carbide in 1948, while completing a degree from Morris Harvey (UC) and retired in 1992. He worked as an environmental consultant through 1997. At that time he opened, owned and operated ERSG, Inc. until 2013. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge.
Fred is survived by his wife Emma Ruth Boggs; two daughters, Rebecca Lanham, husband Steve, of South Charleston and Kathryn Lynn Sandridge, husband Michael, of Houston, TX; sister, Janet Crisco of Kansas City, KS; grandchildren Nathaniel Lanham, Andrea Halley, Hunter Sandridge and Chelsea Sandridge; and great grandchildren, Ian Conner Lanham, Jada Back, Adaiah Lanham, Maddox Boggess, Gauge Halley, and Abigail Lynn Sandridge.
A tribute to Fred’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday January, 9 2015 at Harding Funerals & Cremations with Pastor Pete Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the Boggs Family Cemetery, Big Otter, WV.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dotsy L. Stidham
Mrs. Dotsy L. Stidham, 81of Eleanor went home to be with the Lord January 3, 2015 at home after a short battle with cancer.
Dotsy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved caring for people. She was a Christian and a member of Hometown Independent Mission.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy R. Stidham; parents Roy and Belva Saunders and brothers Carl and Bob Saunders.
Dotsy is survived by her three children, Peggy and husband Greg Porter of Eleanor, Shawn and wife Sandy Stidham of Red House and Billie Jean and husband Joe Tolley of Eleanor; sisters Tene Jett of Nitro and Emily Torman of Hurricane; five grandchildren Daniel and Seth Stidham, Nathan and Nick Martin and Nicole and husband Brent Dolin; two great grandchildren, whom she adored, Ashlyn and Kellyn and special friends Helen, Ramona, Mary and the Honaker family.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Hospice for the care given to our mother.
A tribute to the life of Mrs. Dotsy L. Stidham will be 11:00 AM Tuesday January 6, 2015 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Joey Scarberry and John Hudson officiating. Entombment will follow in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Robert L. Smith
Mr. Robert Lee "Bob" Smith, 70 of Red House went home to be with the Lord October 11, 2014 in the Hubbard Hospice House.
Bob is retired from Local # 926 with over 30 years of service. He is an Army Veteran serving during Vietnam and a member of Lone Oak Church of God Mission.
He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Louie Smith; brother John Smith and sisters Joyce Ours and Terry King.
He is survived by his loving with of 46 years, Mrs. Mary Smith; sons Robbie and wife Carolyn Smith, Eddie and wife Amy Smith and Ben Smith; brothers David "Eggs" Smith and wife Sandy and Carl "Jube" Smith and wife Patty and five grandchildren Jarrett, Joel, Katlyn, Wade and Joni.
A tribute to the life of Mr. Robert "Bob" Smith will be 2:00 PM Wednesday October 15, 2014 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Scott Casto, Ray Parsons and John Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Joseph F. Keeton
Mr. Joseph Franklin "Joe" Keeton, 65 of Hurricane went home to be with the Lord October 13, 2014 at home.
Joe was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is retired from Peabody Coal.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mrs. Darlene Keeton; children Vince and wife Heather Keeton and Vicky and Roger Cole; brothers L.H. and wife Shirley Keeton, Jack Roger and wife Bert Keeton, Kenneth and wife Patricia Keeton and Daniel and wife Delcie Keeton; sisters Billy Jean Farris and Karen and husband Wayne Martin; brother-in-laws Michael and wife Sharon Carte and Richard and wife Linda Carte and grandchildren Ethan and wife Hannah, Wade, Evan, Emily and Clayton.
A tribute to the life of Joe will be 7:00 PM Thursday October 16, 2014 at Rock Branch Independent Church with Pastor Vince Keeton officiating. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 PM Thursday at the church.
Burial will be 1:00 PM Friday October 17, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Park, 1925 Harper Road, Beckley.

Charles Roscoe Reger
Charles Roscoe Reger, 87, of Little Birch, WV departed this world on November 26, 2010 at his residence
Roscoe was born in Skyles, WV on July 30, 1923, the son of the late Thomas Charles and Blanche Tinnil Reger.
Roscoe retired as a self employed truck driver and was co -owner of Hoover and Reger Gulf Service Station in Sutton. He was a member of the Laurel Run Baptist Church where he served as Song Leader, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher. Roscoe was also a Chaplin with the Birch River Ruritan Club. He was a graduate of Sutton High School Class of 1941 and later graduated with an Associate degree in business from Mt. State Business College.
Proceeding him in death were his parents; wife; Iris Kathleen “Kitty” Perrine Reger, and his sister; Ruby Spencer.
He is survived by his daughters; Janis Reger Goss and husband Glenn of Mt. Nebo, Kathy Neas and husband Lucas of Chapel Hill, N.C., grandsons; Charles Bennett (Ben) Neas and Thomas Matthew (Tom) Neas both of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Roscoe’s Companion and friend Edith Cunningham of Little Birch, WV and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 29, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home in Sutton with Rev. Ronzel Roberts officiating, friends called from 6-8pm Sunday at the funeral home Burial with graveside service was held on Monday at 1:30pm in the Pleasant Dale Methodist Cemetery, Selbyville, WV. The family has requested donations to Laurel Run Baptist Church P.O. Box 195 Little Birch, WV 26629.
