Wanda Lue (nee Hardway) Rogers
On the morning of July 7, 2014, Wanda went to be with our Lord after a long battle with cancer while being attended by familiar and loving staff members at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Westlake, OH. Wanda was 82 years old.
Wanda was born in Nicut, WV on May 8, 1932 and grew up in Gassaway, WV. She was the fourth child of six, and the first daughter, of William Earl and Ocie Beatrice (nee Hacker) Hardway. She was born with that beautiful red hair and full of life from her first breath.
Wanda graduated from Gassaway High School in 1950 and continued her education in business at West Virginia Business School in 1951. She was employed by the Bank of Gassaway from 1951 to 1955. She married and moved to Ohio where she was employed by Central National Bank (FirstMerit Bank) from 1955 to her retirement in 1988. She served in the banking industry for 38 years with her career ending as Assistant Vice President and district manager of 6 branches of FirstMerit Bank. During her career she continued her studies in business and graduated from Baldwin Wallace College – Bank Simms in 1986.
Wanda was blessed with her first beautiful daughter, Sheila Jane, in 1958. Sheila went to be with our Lord in Heaven after battling Cystic Fibrosis during her short life on this earth in 1967. From this Wanda began very successful fund raising looking for a cure for CF and her career allowed her voice to be heard by many. In 1963, Wanda was blessed with her second beautiful daughter, Sheri Lue (nee Rogers) Hudson. Sheri also came into this world full of life like Wanda from her first breath and was Wanda’s constant companion caring for Wanda during these final years of her battle with cancer.
Wanda had many hobbies which included golfing, antique hunting, dancing, quilting, crafting, fishing, cooking, and was an avid sports fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns, and golfers Tiger Woods and Jimmy Walker. She delighted everyone she met with her beautiful smile and excitement over any new adventures. Upon meeting Wanda, you soon found yourself dancing in the middle of a parking lot or searching garage sales for that perfect antique to add to your collection. She loved all the pets Sheri brought home to her, even when she was saying no, her love for her pets was soon known and they worked their way into her heart and up on her bed laying by her side.
Wanda was preceded in death by her loving parents, William Earl and Ocie Beatrice (nee Hacker) Hardway; her daughter, Sheila Jane Rogers; her brothers O. Darrell Hardway, William Eugene Hardway, and Charles Lee Hardway.

Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. It is true that we walk in love. And, it is never more true than when we walk to the other side of this life. 2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
