Oeda Herdman Beitz
Oeda Herdman Beitz of Ellen, Fla., and former Buffalo, WV, resident, died
September 30, 2005. She was married to Elmer Keith Beitz on February 8, 1952, in
Charleston. From this marriage came two daughters, Kristina Jane Beitz Groom of
Sarasota, Fla., and Keith Ann Beitz Fulford of Tallahassee, Fla.; four
grandchildren, David Groom III, Hunter Keith Groom, James H. Fulford III, and
Ashley Marie Fulford. Other survivors are two brothers, Opha James Herdman of St.
Simon's Island, Ga., and Oden Lee Herdman of Ellenton, Fla., to whom she was
caregiver for many years; sister-in-law, Helen Herdman of Buffalo, WV; several
nieces, nephews and special friends, including Maxine and Carroll Curtis,
Charlotte and Jack Strickland, Pat Parks, and Dorothy Williams. Preceding her in
death are her parents, Samuel Herdman and Elsie Warner Herdman; sisters, Golda H.
French, Delpha H. Blaum and Wanda H. Fleming; brothers, Charles G. "Mutt" and
Donald A. Herdman of Buffalo, WV. Mrs. Beitz retired as owner and operator of
Beitz Telephone Answering Services of Sarasota and Manatee counties. Celebration
of life services were held Monday, October 3, 2005, at Brown & Sons Funeral Home,
Bradenton, Fla., led by Charlotte and Jack Strickland of Alabama. Entombment at
Skyway Memorial Gardens in Palmetto, Fla.

Freddie A. Bird
Freddie A. Bird, 66, of Barboursville, husband of Bernice Howard Bird, died Saturday in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lewis Memorial Baptist Church, of which he was an active member, with Dr. David Lemming and the Rev. Richard Sexton officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. He was born July 9, 1939, in Huntington to the late Benjamin B. and Winnie Runyon Bird. Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Neal Morrison of Huntington; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Melissa Bird of Barboursville; two grandchildren, Amy Melissa Morrison and Luke Bird; a sister, Neppie Vernatt of Huntington; brothers, Isaiah Bird of Huntington, Joe Harmon of Columbus, Ohio, Jessie Bird of Berea, Ky., and Ephraim Bird of Washington . Richard "George" Allen Kinder
Our loving father and brother, Richard "George" Allen Kinder, 63, of Milton, W.Va., widower of Ruth Jeffers Kinder, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, September 30, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2005, by the Rev. Dickie Jobe and the Rev. Buddie Mills at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton. Interment at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born January 16,1942, in Milton, a son of the late Paul "Pete" Kinder and Eloise Hysell Kinder Jackson. He retired from ACF Industries. George was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Milton. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Kenny Woodall and his son, Jeremy Allen Kinder. He is also survived by a sister he raised as a daughter and her husband, Beth and Brent Spencer of Milton; sisters and brother-in-law, Shirley and Charles Allen of Culloden, W.Va., and Brenda Keaton of Milton; his brothers, Charles of Hurricane, W.Va., Danny and Rickie of Milton,. and Greg of Brandon Fla.; and step brother, Eddie Jackson of Milton; his very special grandchildren, Brent and Sara Spencer, Kenny Paul and Casey Woodall and MaKenna Robinson. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved him very much, Dwana, Regina, Melinda, Tammy, Amy, Timmy, Nicki, Gregory, Brandon, Katie, Sam, Anthony, Tina, Shawn and Jamie. He also leaves behind a very special uncle, Tommy Hysell of Milton and he was preceded in death by a very special sister-in-law, Juanita Kinder. Wallace Funeral Home, Milton. The family requests donation be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. He was blessed with many friends. and we were blessed by having him as a part of our family. Our love for him will never die and our promise to him is that one day we will be together again.

Dola Bell Messinger
Dola Bell Messinger, 87, of Milton, W.Va., passed away Sunday, September 25, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center. She was born January 29, 1918, in Branchland, W.Va., a daughter of the late David and Stella Winters Lucas. She was a homemaker, a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church at Fall Creek, and a member of Eastern Star. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, James Robert Kelley, her second husband Kessler Messinger, four brothers, Ishmal, Chalmer, Ezra and Melvin Lucas, and three sisters, Ada Gibson, Della Messinger and Delia Messinger. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dallas and Judith Kelley of Milton, W.Va.; one grandson and his wife, Dallas II and Michelle Kelley of Milton; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Chandler Kelley of Milton; and four stepchildren, Larry, Mary, Sue and Sharon. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin, with Chelsea Gibson and Zach Bills officiating. Burial in Midkiff Cemetery, Pleasant View, W.Va.

Bruce Whitt
Bruce Whitt, 87, of Barboursville, W.Va., and formerly of North Matewan, W.Va., passed away Monday, September 26, 2005, at his home. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Dr. Ed Grant and the Rev. Ralph Sager. Entombment in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was born August 10, 1918, at Varney, W.Va., son of the late Alex and Edith Ferrell Whitt. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Willis and Frank Whitt. He was retired from the W.Va. State Tax Department, a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Force, a member of the Steele Memorial United Methodist Church, past president of the Matewan Rotary Club, and a Red Cross Volunteer for five years. He is survived by his wife, Janice Hendricks Whitt; one daughter, Jana Whitt of Barboursville, W.Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rod and Sally Whitt of Barboursville, and Frank and Marilyn Whitt of Magnolia, Texas ; four grandchildren, Amy and Alex Whitt of Barboursville, and Jennifer Lopez and Kim Caldwell of Texas ; and three great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Magalee Whitt and Don and Mabel Whitt, all of Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions, be made to Steele Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Huntington.

Mabel Mills
Mabel Mills, 94, of Barboursville, passed away Monday, October 3, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, October 6, 2005, at Bloomingdale-Salem Baptist Church, of which she was a member, by Pastor Jeff Sizemore and the Rev. Mike Pinson. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington. She was born September 30, 1911, in Cabell County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Oliver and Ada Keyser Kelley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Charlie" Mills, and 11 brothers and sisters. She was a retired employee of Huntington Manufacturing Company. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, Helen Stuhr, Jackie Mayo, Maxine Kelley, Kenneth Kelley, Margaret Roach, Eileen Kelley Palmer, Lois Justice Romine, Carol Smallridge, Ronald Smallridge, Jeanette Lawrence, Jerry Sullivan, Peggy June Dixon and Danny Sullivan; her caregiver, Teresa Ellis and her husband Mark, their children, Courtney, Justin, Alex and Casey. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Waymond Ford Riley
Mr. Waymond Ford Riley, 76, of Scott Depot passed away Oct. 3, 2005, in Putnam General Hospital, Hurricane. He was retired from the West Virginia Department of Human Services and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Craver Riley.
Surviving: sons, John Riley of Simpsonville, S.C., Richard Riley of Scott Depot and Wayne Riley of Simpsonville, S.C.; sister, Ruth Daff of Richwood; brother, Bill Riley of North Carolina; three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Chapman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Charles Howard Barnett
Charles Howard Barnett, 82, of Milton died Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted at I p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Cleo Watson officiating. Burial in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. He was born July 27, 1923, in St. Albans, W.Va., a son of the late Charles Henry Barnett and Lena Myles Barnett. He is survived by his wife, Imojane Clonch Barnett; a daughter, Charlene Barnett; two sisters, Mildred Lucas of Huntington, and Dorothy Hill of Jacksonville, Fla.; a niece, Dreama Griffin; nephew Jim Coovert and Rob Coovert of Florida; many special friends and neighbors including Cathy Adams, Norman Davis, Leland and Lillian Dick. Charles retired from Houdaille Industries. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army with the Third Infantry Division in North Africa, Sicily, Anzio, Italy and Southern France and received the Purple Heart for wounds received at the Battle of the Bulge. He also served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Tarawa after World War II. Charles was a member of the Society of the Third Infantry Division, the DAV, the VFW, 32nd Degree Mason, the Beni Kedem Shrine and Lebanon Lodge #68 AF&AM, Milton, whose members served as pallbearers and conducted Masonic graveside rites. Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements. A Scottish Rite Ceremony was conducted during visitation.

Nila Christine Boster
Nila Christine Boster, 73, of Barboursville, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 5, 2005. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Richard Black. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was born February 14,1932, in Cabell County, West Virginia, daughter of the late Alva and Goldie Black Bowen. She was a member of Hash Ridge Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Junior Boster; two brothers, Carl Shepherd of Lesage, W.Va., and Alva "Junior" Bowen of Barboursville; two very special friends, Jimmy and Rita Chapman; and a special "grandson," Drew Chapman. Pallbearers were Jimmy and Drew Chapman, and nephews, Bobby Shepherd, Johnny Shepherd, Carl Shepherd and Matthew Bandy.

Roy Cecil Fry
Roy Cecil Fry, 82, of Ona, W.Va., went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 5, 2005. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m.. Saturday, October 8, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Pastor Pete Davidson officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born June 13, 1923, in Huntington, a son of the late Pierce and Elzira Adkins Fry. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Ransom Fry. He was a retired employee of INCO and after retirement taught at the Cabell County Vocational, Technical and Adult Education School Machine Shop. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy and was a 50 year member of Western Star #11 AF&AM, whose members conducted Masonic graveside rites. He is survived by his wife, Lavona Earnestine Pratt Fry; two daughters, Yolanda Kimberling of Ona and Karon Creamer of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one son, Royce Jack Fry of Ona; five grandchildren, Derik Kimberling and his wife Jennifer, Hattie Kimberling, Jill Creamer, Kristina Creamer and Nicole Creamer; and one great-granddaughter, Presley Kimberling. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington, P.O. Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709.

Mary Lou Eastham
Mary Lou Eastham, 88, of Huntington, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m.. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville by Pastor Paul Meadows and Pastor Gordon Rutherford. Burial at Docks Creek Cemetery. She was born June 24,1917, in Cabell County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Andrew Lucian Baumgardner and Mary Elizabeth Frazier Baumgardner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Eastham; brother, James Asa Baumgardner; and her stepmother, Gertrude Baumgardner. She was retired from the Cabell County Board of Education. She was a lifetime member of Olive Baptist Church for 88 years. She graduated from Marshall University and was a member of the Marshall Alumni Association. She is survived by a foster son, Bryan Warden of Huntington; a brother-in-law Jerry Stirn of Dickinson, Texas ; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Leona and Lindsey Riggs of Deming, N.M.; beloved niece and nephew with whom she made her home, Pam and Clarence Lykins; special nieces, Charlotte Pizzo of San Jose, Calif., Patricia Bennett of Boise, Idaho, Eva Maher of Staten Island, N.Y; special nephew, Larry Baumgardner of San Jose, Calif.; and several other nieces and nephews who were loved and appreciated.

Bonnie S. Hogan
Bonnie S. Hogan, 71, of Barboursville, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2005. Graveside services were conducted Sunday, October 9, 2005 at Oaklawn Memorial Park. She was born August 16,1930 in Amhersdale, WVa., a daughter of the late Otto and Sinda Smith. She was a member of Rock of Ages United Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Willie Hogan; two daughters and son-in-law, Alice and Steve Chester of Memphis, Tenn, and Bonita Lykins of Madera, Calif., one sister, Lenora Clay of Dalton, Penn.; two grandsons, Nathan Chester and Eron Lykins.

Ruby Thelma Morrison
Ruby Thelma Morrison, 93, of Milton passed away Friday, October 7, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at Heck Funeral Home, with the Minister Bud Lucas officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Ruby was born August 8, 1912 in Barboursville, WV, a daughter of the late Oden and Lida Gothard Wetherholt. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Everett Grant Morrison; one son, James F. Morrison; five brothers and five sisters. Ruby was a member of Milton Church of Christ where she loved to sing for her Lord. She is survived by three grandchildren, Donna Fox and her husband Martin, Steve Morrison and his wife Retta and Mark Morrison and his wife Beth. Edward Frazier
Edward Frazier, 64, of Salt Rock, W.Va., went to be with his heavenly Father while surrounded by his loving family and friends, Thursday, October 6, following a brief illness. Edward was preceded in death by his mother, June Wiley Frazier; father, Archie Frazier; mother-in-law, Luna McCallister; sister, Redith Frazier Elkins; and nephew, Eddie Freeman. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Evelyn Jewel McCallister Frazier; daughter and son-in-law, Connie Arlene and Charles Timothy Forth; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Craig and Kelli Dawn Frazier; four grandchildren, Charles Edward "Chad" Forth, Stephanie Dawn Forth, Hannah Marie Frazier, Zachary Craig Frazier; stepmother, Gladys Taylor Frazier; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Archie Jr. and Joyce Frazier, Glenn and Linda Frazier, Bill and Sheila Frazier, Mike and Patty Frazier; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Odessa and Calvin Freeman, Jo Ann and Ken Queen, Evelyn and Daniel Cartwright, Mary and Dwight Lisicki, Estelle Hall and Robert Saunders, Reba and Tim Davis; two uncles, Ronnie Frazier and Franklin Frazier; three aunts, Delcie Frazier Chambers, Elva Frazier Mears and Peachie Wiley Cook; and special family and in-laws, LaAnna and William Crawford. Ed will also be missed by his dozens and dozens of Frazier and McCallister nieces and nephews, as well as, scores of cousins, friends, co-workers, and wonderful church family members. Ed and Evelyn are charter members of Valley of Decision Baptist Church of Salt Rock where he has been a devoted deacon for 33 years. Ed was born in Wayne County, January 9, 1941. He grew up in Lincoln County and graduated from Guyan Valley High School. He and Evelyn married and eventually settled in Salt Rock. He worked for Davis Wholesale in the 1960s and early 1970s, then he drove a truck for several years. In the early 1980s he went to work for a longtime friend and co-owner of Forth Foods, Charles G. Forth, where he drove a truck and managed the warehouse. To honor his memory and his love for his church, Ed was brought back to Valley of Decision for his viewing. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 9, 2005, at Valley of Decision Baptist Church by Brother Sonny Sovine and Brother Kevin Shull. Burial in Enon Cemetery. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Henry Joe Winters
Henry Joe Winters, 68, of Huntington, WVa., passed away Friday, October 7, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Sherwood Thompson. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. He was born November 9, 1936, in Branchland, WVa., a son of the late Thurman and Thelma Prichard Winters. He was retired from INCO and was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He was a member of Gethsemane United Baptist Church, a member of Western Star Lodge #11 A.F. & A.M., Guyandotte, and a member of R.A.M. #10, Huntington. He is survived by his wife, Odeline Cremeans Winters; three sons, Bobby Joe Winters of Norfolk, Virginia, Terry Lee Winters and his wife Susan of Huntington and Brian Scott Winters of Huntington; two sisters, Deloris Gene Esque of Huntington and Phyllis Blankenship of Richmond, KY, one brother, Thurman Winters Jr. of Barboursville; and two grandchildren Terry Lee and Joseph Franklin Winters. Pallbearers were Odell Adkins, Joey Adkins, David Tomlin, Ed Blankenship, Robert Newman and Freddy Lane.
