William J. Keen
William J. Keen, 51, of Sutton, passed away July 30, 2014 at CAMC General Hospital.
He was born October 9, 1962 in Sutton, WV.He was a carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Webster Keen.
William is survived by wife, Margretta Hayes Keen; sons, Anthony and Brandon at home; daughter, Lacie Duncan of Virginia; mother, Shirley McDivott Rigger of Clay; brothers, Stanley, Steve, Billy, Ronnie, Johnnie, and Tony; sister, Ruth Ann; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Walnut Grove Church Cemetery, Strange Creek with Pastor Max Reynolds officiating.
Arrangement by Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.

Josie Maxine Luzader
Josie Maxine Luzader, 98, of Newville went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2014 in the Braxton Heath Care and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. She was born on July 29, 1915. Josie was the daughter of the late Melvin Phillips and Imojean (Linger) Phillips. Mrs. Luzader was married for 57 years to the late Byrl Luzader who preceeded her in death in 2004.
Surviving are sisters, Gail Wilson of Florida, Judith Bright of Newville, WV, and Eva Woods of Cowen, WV and one brother, Kermit Phillips of Charleston, WV.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Luzader was a life- long member of the Newville United Methodist Church where she was a Song leader, Sunday school teacher, and Bible school teacher. She was also a member of the Morrison Ridge United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Luzader was a master quilt maker; she did every stitch by hand. Josie loved life and cherished every day . She also loved the Lord.
Family received friends on Saturday, July 12, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Drive, Flatwoods, WV 26621.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 13, 2014 from the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tom Propst officiating.
Interment was followed in the Newville Cemetery.
The Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home of Flatwoods cared for the Luzader family.

Robert Eugene Dobbins
Robert Eugene Dobbins, 65, of Chapel, passed away July 13, 2014 at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston.
He was born April 1, 1949 a son of the late Donnie Lee and Leona Mae Burns Dobbins.
He was a mechanic and a heavy equipment operator. He loved to play music and was a great father.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by daughter, Jacqueline Mae Dobbins and brother, Donnie Lee Dobbins, Jr.
He is survived by wife, Francis Carpenter Dobbins; children, Johnlee Robert Dobbins (Mary) of Gassaway, Billy Eugene Dobbins (Bobby) of Gassaway, Clara Jane Yale (Steve) of Gassaway, Mary Ellen Dobbins (Jason) of Wagner, SC, Jacob William Dobbins of Gassaway, Francis Joe Dobbins (Sara) of Shalersville, OH, Luke Allen Dobbins of Gassaway, Becky Lou Dobbins of Gassaway and Wesley Alen Bell of Gassaway; brothers, Harry Leon Dobbins and William Franklin Dobbins; sisters, Flora Ruth Williams and Virginia Mae Dobbins; five grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Rev. Ron Acord and Pastor Bill Carr officiating. Burial will be in the Perkins Cemetery, Chapel.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Nina G. Keener Plum
Nina G. Keener Plum, 90, of Sutton passed away June 22, 2014 at Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born March 9, 1924 in Braxton County, WV, the daughter of the late Silas Leondas & Hester Louisa Tingler Keener. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Claude C. Plum, son Claude S. (Buck) Plum, 5 brothers, Carl, Amos, Ollie, Iral (Bud) and infant, Harvey Oscar Keener and 2 sisters, Alta Collins and Catherine (Kate) Harris.
Nina is survived by her loving son Bobby L & wife Gayle Plum of Cleveland, OH. She was a beloved sister of Hughey (Marlin) Keener, loving grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother of many.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton with Rev. Linn Schiefer officiating. Burial followed at Braxton Memorial Cemetery, Airport Rd. Sutton. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Greene-Robertson Funeral Home is humbly serving the Plum family.

Teresa Ann McCumbers
Teresa Ann McCumbers, 50, of Rosedale passed away on March 18th, 2014 at the Hubbard Hospice House. She was born May 14, 1963 to the late Cecil Oakes and Janice Eggers Curry Oakes.
She worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways as an equipment operator.
Teresa is survived by her mother; Janice Eggers Curry, TX, daughters; Tiffany Abel, Kristy Craddock, Katie Abel, Haley McCumbers, Amanda Vigil, son; Tyler Coleman, brothers; Jimmy Oakes, Bobby Oakes, sister; Vicky Oakes, grandchildren; Kaylie, Mady, Kayla, Isabel, and Caden.
She is preceded in death by her father; Cecil Oakes, step-father; David Eggers, and granddaughter; Addilynn.
Services for Teresa were held, Saturday, March 22nd at 8:00pm at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway, WV with Rev. Robey Godfrey officiating.
Friends called two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
At Teresa’s request, her body will be cremated after the service.

Donald “Don” Eugene Linger, Sr.
Donald “Don” Eugene Linger, Sr., 66, of 86 Fornash Road, Weston, WV passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014 at the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, WV surrounded by his family, following an extended illness. He was born on July 10, 1947 in Horner, WV. Donald was the son of the late Edgar Linger and Ialene Linger Shaver. On February 9, 2002, Donald married his loving wife of 12 years Janet (Kniceley) Linger.
Don is survived by his stepfather, Everett Shaver of Sutton, WV, sons, Donald Linger and wife Wanda of Webster, FL, Dewaine Linger and wife Charlene of Buckhannon, WV, daughter Denise Powers of Cornelius, NC, grandchildren Dakota, Megan, Sierra, Ethan, Mekenna, Kylee, and Bradyn. Also surviving are brothers, Edgar Linger and wife Sue of Newport, TN, William Linger and wife Sherry of Woodlands, TX, Larry Linger and wife Jane of Salem, VA, Neil Linger and wife JoAnn of Brunswick, GA, and Clint Linger and wife Helena of Sutton, WV. Also surviving are several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Don loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed staying busy by repairing or building things. He never found a lawn mower or an old car that was not worth saving and restoring. He loved finding different ways to build and invent things. He was never a follower, and always marched to the beat of his own drum. He enjoyed talking to people; he never met a stranger, and loved to wheel and deal. He was loved by his family and will always be remembered.
Friends called at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home, 225 Main Street, Flatwoods, WV on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 6-8p.m. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend John McQuain and Reverend Ron Brown officiating. Interment will follow services in the Kniceley-McCray Cemetery in Sutton.

Velma Jane Slaughter
Velma Jane Slaughter, 81, of 420 Curry Ridge Road, Napier, WV passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014. She was born on May 14, 1932 in Braxton County and was the daughter of the late James Slaughter and Beulah (Campbell) Slaughter. In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by brothers, Doris, Paul, James, and Rondal Slaughter.
Velma is survived by son, Richard Slaughter of Napier, WV and sister Dorothy Rhodes of Charleston, WV, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Velma enjoyed being a homemaker, especially keeping her house clean and cooking for her family. Velma also enjoyed farming. She liked watching the cattle, mowing grass, raising a garden, and also enjoyed helping her son at Lakes Carry Out. Velma most of all loved her family.
Graveside services will be held at the Falls Mill Cemetery on Curry Ridge on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jason Allen officiating. Interment will follow graveside services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Falls Mill Cemetery in memory of Velma Jane Slaughter.
The Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home of Flatwoods, WV will be caring for the Slaughter family.

“Ed” Ocie Edward Aliff
“Ed” Ocie Edward Aliff, 69, of Sutton, WV, passed away on March 14, 2014 in the Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV following an extended illness. Ed was born on August 15, 1944 in Falling Rock, WV. Ed was the son of the late Ocie R. Aliff and Hazel Rebecca (Taylor) Aliff.
Ed is survived by his loving wife Catherine (Jarrell) Aliff, daughter Amy Moles and husband Charles, and Son Ryan Edward Moles Aliff. Also surviving are brothers, Jimmy Aliff, Arnold Aliff, and Terry Aliff, and sisters Christine Browning, Nancy Saulsberry, and several nieces and nephews.
Ed was an avid outdoorsmen; he loved to fish, hunt, and enjoyed being outdoors. He loved music, especially country music. Ed’s favorite television show was Gun Smoke. Ultimately, Ed’s favorite activity was spending time with his family.
Ed’s request for cremation has been honored.
The Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home of Flatwoods, WV will be caring for the Aliff family.

Dreama Darleen Young
Dreama Darleen Young, 74, of Strange Creek, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 25, 2013 at her home in Strange Creek.
She was born on October 9, 1939 in Elk Ridge, West Virginia a daughter of the late Woodie and Jean Nottingham Nichols of Strange Creek.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Delores Lloyd; brothers, Bengie Nichols and Kenneth Lee Nichols.
Dreama was a homemaker and enjoyed genealogy, reading and sewing.
She is survived by her loving husband of fifty five years, John R. “Raben” Young of Strange Creek; sons, Johnny and wife, Beverly Young of Strange Creek, Danny and wife, Iris Young of Kentucky and Ronnie and wife, Lisa Young of Strange Creek; daughter, Carol Young of Gassaway; grandchildren, Michelle Short and husband, Sam of Fairmont, Mark, Nathan, and Ryan Young all of Strange Creek, Derick and Kendall Young of Kentucky; two great grandchildren, Logan and Lance Short of Fairmont. Her beloved dog, Sassy and cat, Mickey.
The family would like to express their special thanks to all their family members, extended family, friends, caregivers and anyone else whom assisted in the care of Dreama and the rest of the family during the last part of her life.
She was loved by many, and will be missed.
In Lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to Hospice Care, P.O. Box 323, Burnsville, WV 26335.
Services were held 2 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2013 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Rev. Johnny Conrad, Rev. Ray Teets and Pastor Joseph Truman officiating. Burial followed in the Eureka Church Cemetery on Keener’s Ridge.
Friends called two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Juanita M. “Wonie” Harper
Juanita M. “Wonie” Harper, of 6th Street, Newell, Ohio, died Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Adkins Care Center. She was 87.
Born in Holly, Braxton County, West Virginia, June 5, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Hester Bragg Gillespie. She moved to this area after World War II and raised her family in Newell. She was a charter member of the Glendale Church of the Nazarene, where she was a past Sunday school teacher, treasurer and a choir member. She enjoyed playing Scrabble, word find, and reading with her Husband. She loved everyone and gave them big hugs.
Her husband, Cecil G. Harper, survives at home. The couple married on June 21, 1947. There is a daughter, Janet DePolo, and her husband Phillip, of Mason, Ohio, as well as two sons, Cecil J. Harper and his wife Belinda of Huntington, West Virginia, and Larry J. Harper and his wife Debbie of Chester, Ohio. There are five grandchildren, Sandy DeWitt, Gregg Harper, Todd Harper, Kiley DePolo and Kelsey DePolo and three great-grandchildren, Celeste DeWitt, Sophia DeWitt, and Jericho Harper.
There are six sisters, Rosie Squires, Bessie Rowand, Delores Mattern, Faye Fone, Maxine Mellinger, and Linda Pitts, and three brothers, James Gillespie, Sylvester Gillespie, and Lyle Gillespie. She was preceded in death by an infant sister and a brother, Edward “Junie” Gillespie.
Friends visited in the afternoon and evening on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Dawson Funeral Home, where services were conducted on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, by Pastor Scott Henry. Burial followed at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell. Following the service, family and friends gathered at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Valley Hospice and Adkins Care Center for the wonderful care Juanita was given.
“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” –Romans 8:18.
Her sufferings are over; she is at rest in Heaven.
Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in care of The Valley Hospice Center Foundation, 10686 State Route 150, Rayland, OH 43943.
