Clara Arvilla Garvin
Clara Arvilla Garvin, 87 of Sutton, formerly of Webster Springs and Baltimore, MD, passed away on January 23, 2012 at Braxton Health Care Center. She was born June 16, 1924 in Pickens, WV to James “Cannie” and Georgia Light Mallette. She was a former guard at the Maryland Hospital and a former factory worker. She loved gospel music and enjoyed her nieces, nephews, and family.
Clara is survived by her son Willard Garvin, Jr.; daughter Clara Mae Garvin; sisters Bonnie Carpenter and Peggy Mallette; brothers Jimmy and Robert Mallette; and five grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Willard Garvin; daughter Pauline, parents; brothers, Paul Anderson, Raymond Mallette and Orie Mallette; sisters Juanita Robinson, Mildred Robinson-Hamrick, Kathryn Lake-Watson and Bernice Ruth Mallette.
Friends joined the family for visitation on Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 11:00 to 1:00 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services were held at 1:00 PM at the Funeral Home with Mark Mallette officiating. Interment followed in Hacker Valley Cemetery.

Phillip Drane
Phillip Drane, 59, of Sutton formerly of Munhall, PA went home to be with our Lord Monday January 23, 2012. He was born the son of the late Robert L. and Mary J. Shaver Drane.
He was an active member of Stump Chapel Baptist Church where he enjoyed leading Bible Studies. He was a carpenter who enjoyed using his handyman skills and was always up for a new and challenging project.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, sister; Pamela, brothers; Robert and John Drane.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Brenda, son; Jason Drane (Stefanie), granddaughter; Hailey Drane of Virginia Beach, VA, brother; William Drane (Stacy), sisters; Kim Fallon (Mark), Beth Milke (Dale) all of Munhall, PA and many nieces and nephews who adored him.
Funeral services were held 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Stump Chapel Baptist Church, Tesla, WV with Rev. Ted Legg officiating. Burial followed in Braxton Memorial Cemetery, Sutton. Friends called 6-8 p.m. Friday January 27, 2012 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, WV.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Stump Chapel Church, 2636 Old Turnpike Rd, Little Birch, WV 26629.

Virginia Ruth Casto
Virginia Ruth (“Ginny”) Casto, age 71, of Manteca, Ca., passed away on January 17, 2012.
She was born August 22, 1940 in Tesla, WV, a daughter of the late Perry Orval and Ruth Jane Coombs Casto.
She was a 1960 graduate of Sutton High School, and from 1960-1962 served in the U.S. Army. For a short time she lived in Dayton, Ohio, working for Ohio Bell Telephone. In 1963, she moved to California and worked for 32 years for the U.S. Government at The Tracy Defense Depot, as a computer specialist, retiring in 1996.
She loved to travel, having visited almost every state,Canada and Mexico and had made two trips to the Holy Land.
She was very much involved with her church and it’s many ministries. She enjoyed gardening, reading, sudoku puzzles, and playing music with the old time fiddlers and gospel musicians.
She was pre-deceased by a sister, Carol Elaine Casto, who died in infancy in 1948.
She is survived by one sister, Millie Casto Connor of Milmont Park, Pa., two brothers, William (Marilyn) Casto and Arthur Lee Casto, both of Pitsburg, Ohio, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and the extended Price Family, who became her adoptive family after moving to California.
Services were held on Monday, January 23rd at the Calvary
Community Church in Manteca, Ca., with the Rev. Jim Day officiating.
A military honor guard presented the U.S. flag to the family and taps were played.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Park View Funeral Home in Manteca, Ca.

Jackie Allen Brady
Jackie Allen Brady, 53, of Gassaway, died January 24, 2012 at home
He was born July 14, 1958 in Gassaway a son of Shirley Keener Brady of Akron OH and the late Carl Eugene Brady.
Jackie was an Army veteran who served as a medic in stationed in Germany; he was a talented artist and loved his daughter, family and animals. He was a very generous person.
In addition to his mother he is also survived by; daughter, Krystal Starr Brady of Ohio; brothers, Carl Brady of Gassaway, Richard Brady of Doylestown, OH, Bruce (Bonny) Brady of Barberton, OH, Tim (Kathy) Brady of Florence, AL; sisters, Brenda (Jodi) Parsons and Linda (Rick) Shoff both of Akron, OH; his cat, Jazzy.
Service was 1 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Pastor Bill Carr officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Keener-Stout Cemetery, Frametown.
Friends called two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Meda Ruth Mohr
Meda Ruth “Doll” Mohr, 79, of Normantown, died January 27, 2012 at home.
She was a daughter of the late Clarence and Daisy Allen Duelley.
She was a member of the Bender Run Baptist Church; a rural mail carrier and she also worked at the Ideal Cut Rate and was a cook at the Braxton County Jail.
She was preceded in death by husband, Duefold W. Mohr; great grandchild, Dusty Mohr; five brothers and two sisters.
Surviving; son, Kenneth Mohr and wife, Pam of Normantown; daughters, Jo Gerwig and husband, Roger of Normantown and Wilma Singleton and husband, Ron of Tennessee; sister, Lois Rexroad of Ohio; five grandchildren, Melissa Mick and husband, Chad, Adam Mohr and wife, Julie, Sara Wayne and husband, John, Doug Gerwig and wife, Mandi and Laura Cooper and husband, Shawn; four great grandchildren, Hannah and Matthew Mick, Madisyn Gerwig and Kaleb Wayne and one expecting great grandchild, Maleah Cooper.
The family would like to thank the caregivers, Jennifer Hamric and Diana Pritt for all they did for their mom and showing there love toward her and their family. Also a special thank you to the Hospice Care nurses, Eunice, Donna, Heather, and Debbie.
Service was 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Rev. Linn Schiefer officiating. Burial was in the Bender Run Cemetery, Chapel.
Friends called from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Hospice Care, P.O. Box 323, Burnsville, WV 26335.

Anita Kay Lewis Owen
Anita Kay Lewis Owen, 53, of Morgantown, WV passed away on Sunday September 22, 2013 at her residence.
She was born October 8, 1959 in Lockport, NY to Patricia Ann Leavitt Lewis and the late Vergil Lewis. She is also preceded in death by her little sister, Ann Lewis.
Anita was a manager for KFC Restaurant, Manager of the shoe department at Wal-Mart, was a caregiver, and was a Seven Day Adventist.
She is survived by her mother, Patricia Ann Lewis of Morgantown; companion, Albert Williams, Jr, of Morgantown; sister, Lynn McMillen & husband Allen of Morgantown; uncle, Clyde Leavitt; nieces, Alison McMillen and Andrea Clelland.
Funeral services were held 1:00 p.m. Thursday September 26, 2013 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton with Rev. Linn Schiefer officiating. Burial followed in Sutton Cemetery, Sutton, WV. Friends called one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Hunter James Lemon
Hunter James Lemon, 13, of Heaters, passed away September 26, 2013 at home.
He was born July 17, 2000 in Charleston, WVHunter was an eighth grade student at Braxton County Middle School. He loved hunting, camping, swimming, playing video games, watching zombie movies, and he especially loved animals.
Hunter is survived by parents, David and Kerri Skidmore Lemon of Heaters; brothers, Aaron Lemon and wife, Mandy of Huntington and Brandon Lemon of Gassaway; maternal grandparents, Danny L. and Mary Skidmore of Flatwoods; paternal grandparents, Harry and Eleanor Lemon of Sugar Creek; aunts and uncles, Randy and Christie Skidmore of Flatwoods, Heather and Matt Pritt of Orlando, WV, Greg and Susan Lemon of Gassaway and Karen Callison of Gassaway; special nephews, Keller and Maddox Lemon; cousins, Sydney and Noah Skidmore, Bailey and Aubrey Pritt, Matthew and Michael Lemon; and furry friends, Tater Tot, Burrito, and Taco, whom he tragically died defending.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Braxton County Animal Shelter, 10 Animal Lane, Sutton, WV 26601.
Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Gassaway Baptist Church with Rev. Robey Godfrey officiating. Burial will be in the Jerushia Church Cemetery, Sugar Creek.
Friends called from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Gassaway Baptist Church.

Juanita Lenore Putnam
Juanita Lenore Putnam, 70, of Chapel, died September 23, 2013 at United Hospital Center, Bridgeport.
She was a former school bus driver for the Braxton County Board of Education and was Protestant.
She was preceded in death by husband, Fletcher “Buck” Putnam; two brothers and one sister.
She is survived by children, Loretta J. Stansberry of Chapel, Lucy Nations of Sand Fork, Tonia L. Putnam of Sand Fork, Falayda G. Casteneda of Pell City, AL and Francis K. Putnam of Chapel; sisters, Alura Barnett, Judy McCune, Crystal Williams and Collette Thomas; 15 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Pastor Jim Criner officiating. Burial followed in the Putnam Cemetery, Wilsie.
Friends called from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

John Kevin Carte
John Kevin Carte, 38 of Camden-on-Gauley died Thursday September 26, 2013 in the Summersville Regional Medical Center. He was the son of Dana and Violet Jean Lewis Carte of Cottle and was born at Summersville July 19, 1975. He was a truck driver, a U.S. Army veteran and a Baptist by faith.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Jessica Dawn Peyatt Carte; son Pierce Foster and daughter Hannah Foster, both of Charleston; three step-daughters, Leslie Dawn Clevenger of South Carolina, Breanna Clevenger and Amy Clevenger, both of Camden-on-Gauley; maternal grandmother June Barnett of Dille; two brothers, Carl Carte of Craigsville and Gary Carte of Vermillion, Ohio; two sisters, Robin Rhoades of North Port, Florida, and Debbie Tahon of Elyria, Ohio; and special nephew, Brayden Carte.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday September 30, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Walnut Grove Cemetery at Strange Creek with Pastor Linn Schiefer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the family would be appreciated.
The Waters Funeral Chapel in Summersville is in charge of arrangements.
