Paul D. Moats, 68 of Sutton, WV. passed away Wed Feb. 29, 2012 at his home after a long illness.
He was born on July 29, 1943 in Webster County, WV. a son of the late James Moats.
He was retired from Braxton Lumber Co in Heaters, WV and was previously employed by Rexroad Lumber, Appalachian Timber.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Arnie Moats.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Moats of Sutton; Son, Steven Paul Moats and wife Sherry of Sutton; Daughter, Mary Jane Rose and husband Mark of Little Birch. Mother Goldie Moats of Sutton. Brothers, Olen Moats of PA, James of NC, Earl of OH, and Gary of Sutton. Sisters, Pamela Sue King of Morgantown, Emma Jean Bright of Sutton, Louis Snyder of OH and Sylvia Moats of OH.
Grandchildren, Courtney Shaver and husband Kirk of Exchange, WV, Ryan Rose of Little Birch, WV and Jessie and Jacob Moats. One great-grandson, Bryson Moats.
Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 PM Saturday March 3, 2012 at Stockert-Sizemore Funeral Home in Flatwoods, WV with Rev. Lin Schiefer officiating. Friends may call from 4-6:00 Pm Saturday evening at the funeral home.

Lola Fay Workman
Lola Faye Workman, 98, of Gassaway departed this life on May 19, 2012.
She was born on February 28, 1914.
She was predeceased by her parents, Henderson “Hank” Varney and Eliza Stollings; husband, Lester “Dick” Workman; son, Jimmy O’Neil Ellis; son, Kenneth Loy Workman; grandson, Michael Eugene Ellis.
Faye leaves behind to cherish her memory, son, Charlie Workman (Nancy) of Gassaway, and his children, Allison Bodkins (Shawn) of Memphis, TN, Greg Workman (Johnna) of Richmond, VA and Jason Workman of Gassaway’ daughter, Marlene Noble Hunter of Gassaway, and children, Don Noble of Gassaway, Janet Gibson (Matt) of Sutton, Beverly Smith (Mike) of Gassaway, and Darren Hunter (Shawn) of Exchange; daughter, Emyl Lee Shields of Cedarville, and children, Dorothy Williamson (Clarence) of Glenville, Barbra Phares (David) of Glenville, George Grounds (Anita) of Calhoun County, Sandra Smith (Lonzo) of Glenville, Darlene Isenhart (Roy) of Copen, James Grounds of Cedarville, and Bonnie Barnett of Ravenna, Ohio. In addition, she leaves a host of six generations of loving grandchildren.
She was a member of the Gassaway Church of Christ.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Minister Gene Miller and Minister Danny Lambey officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.
Friends called from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care of Burnsville, P.O. Box 323, Burnsville, WV 26335.

Raymond T. Westfall
Raymond T. Westfall, Sr., 60, of Tioga, WV passed away May 20, 2012 after an extended illness at home with his wife, Brenda Mae Rose Westfall.
He was born in Braxton County, WV on July 30, 1951 to Troy and Pauline Tenney Westfall.
Raymond earned his living for many years as a tree trimmer with Asplundh Tree Experts. Over the last few years, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and participating in the Southern Cruisers Riding Club, Forge Alliance Riding Club, and the Christian Motorcyclists Association. He was an avid deer hunter and a talented landscape artist with a very lively sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his first wife, Donna Westfall.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Brenda Mae Rose Westfall, brothers, Kenneth Tenney of Birch River, WV, Ronald Westfall of Cowen, WV, his sisters, Sharren Garland, Linda Westfall and Romona Leonard all of Charleston, WV, Teresa Ratajczak of Baltimore, MD, his 3 children Christina Westfall of Laurinburg, NC, Crystal Westfall and Troy Westfall both of Raeford, NC, step-sons, Rick Beeghley of Edgewood, MD, Franklin Rose of Williamstown, WV, step-daughter, Teresa Rose Eads of Birch River, WV. He is also survived by several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and his very special four-legged companions, Angel and Elvira.
Upon his request his body was cremated.

Linda Carol Nottingham
Linda Carol Nottingham, age 67, passed away on May 14, 2012. She was born on April 7, 1945 in Braxton County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Raymond Nottingham and the late Darlie Mollohan Nottingham. Linda is survived by her two loving daughters and their families: Sally Joachim and her husband Todd with children Sadie Rose and Cooper of Longuich, Germany; and Elaine Imbruglia and her husband Frank with son Jeremy of Winter Garden, Florida. She is survived by five siblings and their families: Bernice Nottingham Moore, Norman Nottingham and wife Rosalie, James Nottingham and wife Vida Lee, Anna Lee Stalhman, and Larry Nottingham and wife Carol. She is also survived by her devoted dog, Millie.
Linda lived many places and touched many lives, spending her own time and resources giving to others, through her career as a small business administrator, as a university educator, and as an always-loyal and generous sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend to all who knew her. Above all else, Linda was a proud Mama and Grammy.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to MD Anderson Cancer Center www.mdanderson.org/gifts.

Troy Keith Grantham
Troy Keith Grantham, 53, of Gassaway, passed away May 22, 2012 at Appalachian Regional Healthcare, Beckley.
He was born July 12, 1958 in Blakely, Georgia.
He was a Boilermaker.
He is survived by wife, Lynette Duckworth Grantham; daughters, Amanda Peacock of Cordele, GA and Nicole Story of Caporn, VA; son, Troy Keith Grantham, Jr. of Illinois; mother, Joan Johnson Grantham of Halifax, VA ; sisters, Cindy Dukes of New Port Richey, FL and Laura Tingen of South Boston, VA ; two granddaughters and two grandsons; two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by father, Larry Keith Grantham.
Services were held at 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 25 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Rev. Johnny Conrad officiating.
Friends called from 6 p.m. till time of service at the funeral home.
At Mr. Grantham’s request his body will be cremated following services.

DaLynda Gayle Drake
DaLynda Gayle Drake, 51, of Frametown departed this life to be with the Lord on May 24, 2012 at her home. DaLynda was born in Elyria, OH on April 18, 1961, she was the third child of Bob and Barbara Drake of Frametown. She leaves behind her two older sisters and two younger brothers.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bobby L. Drake.
She is survived by three children, Crystal Tippin and husband, Paul of Weston; son, Sean Durand and wife, Laura and grandchildren Hunter and Emilee Durand of Griswold, CT; son, Francis Durand IV and Mary Martin of Sutton; sisters, Dorothy McGranor and husband, Rick of Elyria, OH and Rochelle Bunch and husband, Kenneth of Polk, OH; brothers, Carson Drake and wife, Liza of Sewickley, PA and Eric Drake and wife, Tammy of Culver, IN; numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews; she is also survived by her partner in life, Mike Dobbins of Frametown; grandmother, Audrey Drake of Jennings, OK; mother, Barbara Frame and stepfather, Norman of Frametown.
“Lindy” graduated from Calhoun High School in 1978 and then graduated from Parkersburg Community College in 1982 with an ADN degree. She worked for many years as an RN at Thomas Memorial, CAMC Memorial, Summersville Memorial and Braxton County Memorial Hospital.
Private funeral service will be at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Rev. Rich Demastus officiating.
Her body will be cremated and a private inurnment service will be held at the Perry H. James Cemetery, Frametown at a later date.

Betty E. Gumm
Betty E. Gumm, age 88 years, a former resident of Elkins and Sutton, West Virginia and a patient in the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center passed away Friday morning, May 25, 2012 at the center.
She was born October 11, 1923 at Elkins, a daughter of the late Michael J. and Anna Bessie Townsend Gumm. She had never married. She is survived by one sister, Anna Woolums of Elkins, several nieces and nephews including a niece, Vicki Facemire and husband Johnnie with whom she made her home in Sutton for several years. Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Frank, Wallace, and June Gumm and three sisters, Nellie Coffman, Georgia Bowers and Arlene Phares. Betty attended the Coffman Chapel United Methodist Church at Stalnaker Run for many years, and while living in Sutton, attended the Braxton County Senior Center and the Gassaway United Methodist Church where she was much loved by all who knew her. Betty loved anything with the flavor of Vanilla. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Terry Burgess officiating. Interment will follow in the Gilman Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Coffman Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Pamela Morgan, Rt. 2, Box 291-1, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Betty.

Robert Earl Bowyer
Robert Earl Bowyer, 78, of Sutton, passed away at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV after a long illness.
He was born June 27, 1933, in Widen, WV, a son of the late Alfred and Fannie May Dolin Bowyer. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, was a member of Masonic Lodge 83 F & AM, Coventry-Akron and attended the First Southern Baptist Church, Sutton. Robert was preceded in death by one infant son, David, and a brother, Walter L. Bowyer. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shelby Long Bowyer; one son, Ronald and his wife, Wyoma, of Sealy, Texas; and grandchildren, Rebecca Bowyer, Huntsville, Texas and Lucas Bowyer, Sealy, Texas. Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at Stockert-Sizemore Funeral Home, Flatwoods with Rev. Rick Canfield officiating. Burial took place in Sutton Cemetery, Sutton, WV. Friends called from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Stockert-Sizemore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Patricia M. Cantrell
Patricia M. Cantrell, 79, of Gassaway, went home to be with the Lord on June 24, 2012 surrounded by family and friends.
She was born September 8, 1932 to the late Paul Marple and Mabel (Hamric) Marple of Gassaway. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, John W. Cantrell Jr.; sister, Paula (Marple) Tucker and stepmother, Blanche Marple. She is survived by her stepbrother, Charles Harris and wife, Kathryn; stepsister, Carol Jean Hovell; stepson, Danny Cantrell; stepdaughter, Beverly Naufzinger and husband, Howard; four grandchildren; niece, Teri Fiegelson; nephew, Kye Kennedy; sisters-in-law, Letha Cantrell, Judy McMillion and Linda Cunningham; brothers-in-law, Kenny Blosser and Jerald Cantrell; niece and caregiver, Shelba Moore and a beloved church family. She was an active member of Gassaway Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. Service were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Gassaway Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Stump and Rev. Bill Morlan officiating. Burial took place in the Beall’s Mill Cemetery, Gassaway.
Friends called from 1 p.m. till time of service at the church. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Gassaway Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 128, Gassaway, WV 26624. Virgil H. Casto
Virgil H. Casto, 84, of Sutton passed away Friday, June 29, 2012, at his residence. He was born on May 16, 1928, to the late George W. and Matilda Blanch Sponaugle Casto. Virgil was a coal miner with 25 years of service and attended Wayside Church in Sutton. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Roger Casto. He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred Gross Casto, son and daughter-in-law, Rondal L. and Mona Casto of Sutton, and his grandchildren, Angie McDonald and husband, Billy, Teresa Poling and husband Jay, Crissy Toler and husband, George, Stevie Casto and wife, Lindsey, and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 1, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, with Rev. Dale Harper officiating. Burial followed in the Sutton Cemetery. Friends called from 12:30 until service time at the funeral home. Greene-Robertson Funeral Home is humbly serving the Casto family.

Mary B. Loyd Friend
On the morning of Wednesday, June 27, 2012, Heaven opened its Gates to welcome Mary Beatrice Loyd Friend, age 92 of the Lloydsville community near Exchange, West Virginia. Waiting at the side of her Lord and Savior to meet her was the love of her life, her late husband, Charles Ernest “Charley” Friend, who has been patiently waiting for her since July 17, 2000. Beatrice was born on March 28, 1920 to Victor Fisher Loyd and Nora Edna Skidmore Loyd. She graduated from Sutton High School in 1936, then attended and graduated from Charleston School of Commerce. Beatrice was employed as a secretary in the Braxton County Assessor’s Offfice prior to her marriage to Charley on November 18, 1945. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Skidmore Loyd; sister, Edna Mae Loyd Friend and an infant sister, Catherine. Beatrice and Charlie were blessed with four wonderful sons who continued to watch over and take care of their Mom until the time came for her to join their Dad in Heaven. Those sons and their families are: Eugene and wife, Laura of Middlebourne, WV and their daughter, Joanna Friend of Paden City, WV; Arthur and wife, Renae of Exchange, their children, daughter, Angela Carter and her husband, Matt and children, Austin and Kylie of Duck, daughter, Melanie Friend and her husband, John Cox of Richmond, VA; Victor Friend and wife, Tricia and children, Todd Hoover, Lane and Bryce Friend of Keener’s Ridge; Rodney and wife, Angie and daughter, Raven of Exchange, their son Mark Friend and fiance’ Burke Holvey and her son, Joel Lipscomb of Exchange and their daughter, Raeanna Cook and her husband, Quintin of Rosedale; David and wife, Debbie and daughter, Jennifer of Exchange. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and loving friends, neighbors and church family members. Beatrice was a member of the Lloydsville United Methodist Church which was built on land provided by her Grandfather, John Luther Loyd, from his family’s farm. She was a very gentile, humble and devout Christian lady who loved the Lord and her family deeply. Her sons adored her and her daughters-in-law admired and loved her as the extra Mom she was to all of them. No Grandmother could be more treasured, respected or loved by her grandchildren and great grandchildren than was Mary Beatrice Loyd Friend. Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Lloydsville United Methodist Church on Exchange Road with Pastor Bill Carr officiating. Burial will be in the Lloydsville Cemetery. Friends called from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to Hospice Care, P.O. Box 323, Burnsville, WV 26335.

Mary Jane Goodrich
Mary Jane Goodrich, 75, of Canton, Ohio, formerly of Burnsville, passed away June 20, 2012, at Stone Creek Nursing Center in Canton.
She was born December 15, 1936, in Virginia, and was a daughter of the late Stewart (Bummy) and Ollie May Dingus. Surviving are daughters, Robyn Fast of Akron, Ohio, Cheryl Davis of Canton, Ohio, a son Raymond (Darlene) Fast of Canton, Ohio, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, two brothers, Doyle and Billy Ray (Janice). She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ross, a sister, Nyla, a son, Richard Allen Fast, and sister-in-laws, Beth Dingus and Gilvie Dingus. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at 1 p.m., at the Stump Funeral Home in Arnoldsburg. Pastor Gene Miller officiated, Interment was in the Rosedale Cemetery. Friends called at the funeral home one hour prior to the services.
