Michael Sherman Whitesel
Michael Sherman Whitesel “Big Mike”, 54, of Gassaway, WV went home to be with the Lord December 5, 2012 at Braxton County Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was a Baptist by faith. He was met at the Pearly Gates by his father and mother, Sherman “Tiny” and Edith “Pat” Whitesel; Grandparents, John and Luicelle Whitesel and Tompie and Marie Thompson.
Big Mike left behind of wife of 32 years, Sandra K. Compton Whitesel; three sons, Franklin “Duaine” Compton and wife, Lena of Yawkey, WV, JD Whitesel and wife, Dawn of Gassaway, Josh Whitesel and wife, Jessie of Gassaway. Big Mike was a grandfather of five granddaughters, Dorothy, Barbara, Lexi, Braydan, and Shellie; and two grandsons, Rodney and Thomas and expecting a new grandchild.
He left behind two sisters, Kathy (Jennings) Sears of Exchange, WV and Susie (Kevin) Catlin of Buckhannon, WV and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also left behind a great friend, Tish Morton of Sutton, WV and a wonderful friend and co-worker, Peggy Tenney of Sutton, WV.
Through his short life Big Mike made many, many friends while working on road construction, the Braxton County Memorial Hospital in the Dietary Department and was a park attendant at the Gerald R. Freeman and Bulltown Campgrounds and for the last 20 years, he owned and operated Pat’s Florist in Gassaway.
Big Mike will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2012, at Gassaway Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Stump, Rev. Pat Green and Pastor Dave Gunter officiating. He was be laid to rest at the Sugar Creek Cemetery.
Friends called from 3 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Gassaway Baptist Church.

Claude Eugene“Gene” Allen
Claude Eugene “Gene” Allen, 68, of Burnsville, WV passed away peacefully at his home on February 3, 2013 after a short illness.
He was born on March 12, 1944 at Napier, WV a son of the late Charley D. and Edna M. Williams Allen. He lived and worked in the Cleveland, OH area for 42 years and later retired from an Aluminum Foundry in Cleveland, OH. He was a great lover of “Blue Grass” music.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three children, Johnnie, Kevin and Lisa; brothers, Brooks, Raymond, Brian, Harry, “Hoot” (Edward) and William; three half-brothers, Guy, Tom and Jim; sisters, Mary Parker, Mamie Ratliff and Bertha Riffle.
Gene is survived by his wife, Virginia, sons Larry, Junior and Charlie all of Burnsville and Rodney of Cleveland, OH. Also surviving are brothers, Frank of Cleveland and Robert “Bob” Struthers, of Ohio; one sister, Marie Cosner of Burnsville, WV; three grandchildren, Kevin and Crissy Allen of Cleveland, OH and Charles Allen of Clarksburg, WV.
Funeral services were held on Saturday Feb. 9, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Stockert-Sizemore Funeral Home in Flatwoods, WV with Rev. Delmas Singleton officiating. Burial was in Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens in Heaters, WV. Friends called from 6-8:00 p.m. on Friday evening February 8, 2013 at the funeral home.

Beulah Mae Clowser
Beulah Mae Clowser, 77, of Clarksburg passed away February 1, 2013 at Heartland Nursing Home. She was born December 27, 1935 in Paw Paw, WV a daughter of the late Gracie Victoria and Elmer Bruce Eaton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Clowser on April 5, 2000. She is survived by four children, Peggy Clowser, of Clarksburg, WV, Carol Rucker and companion Jerry Jones, of Clarksburg, WV, Barbara (Gordon) Grimes of Stonewood, WV and Bruce (Kim) Clowser of Fairborn, OH. Two granddaughters, Sarah and Rachel Rucker, Clarksburg, WV. She is also survived by three sisters, Aimee Hartman of Keyser, WV, Maxine Bice of Inwood, WV and Ruth Windsor of Augusta, WV; two brothers, Thurman Eaton and Marshall Eaton of Paw Paw, WV. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Curtis, Ray, Bernard and Leonard. Beulah was a homemaker until her children were grown. She then worked for Servicemaster Cleaning and as a cleaning lady for the Steptoe and Johnson law firm. She loved sewing and reading her daily devotional books, along with her Bible.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Richard Roach Funeral Home on Thursday, February 7, 2013, in Gassaway, WV. The funeral was held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday following the visitation. Pastor Charles V. Madaus of Bible Baptist Temple in Stonewood, WV, presided. Burial was in the Bender Run Cemetery, Chapel.

Ruthalea K. Dorsey
Mrs. Ruthalea K. Dorsey, 95 years of age of Huntington, WV, died after a short illness on February 6, 2013 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV. She was born January 7, 1918 in Frametown, WV, the daughter of the late Lertie T. and Edith James Keener. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Dorsey Jr., a son, John Allen Dorsey and a sister, Mildred Keener Butcher. She and her husband Earl were married on May 27, 1943 and had been happily married for sixty years.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy A. Dorsey at home and a son, Reverend Steven E. Dorsey and his wife Jennie of Ponte Vedra, FL; three grandchildren who were the delight of her life, Dr. S. Elliott Dorsey, Jr. and his wife Jamie of Charlotte, NC, Thomas Earl Dorsey of Jacksonville, FL and Mary Margaret Sekeres and husband Scott of Ponte Vedra, FL; three great grandchildren, Benjamin Case Dorsey and Joseph James Dorsey of Charlotte and Luke Steven Sekeres of Ponte Vedra and one brother James V. Keener of Gassaway, WV.
Ruthalea was a retired teacher in Braxton County and Cabell County. She graduated from Glenville State College and began teaching in a one-room school at Windy Run in Braxton County. She later taught elementary school in Huntington. She was a member of the Beverly Hills United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruthalea’s memory to the Beverly Hills United Methodist Church, Tri-State Area Council of the Boy Scouts or Hospice of Huntington.
A funeral service was celebrated on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the Beverly Hills United Methodist Church, Huntington, WV.
The Dorsey family has entrusted the care and arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport, WV.

Doris Naomi Kelly Faust
Doris Naomi Kelly Faust, 93, of Fairmont, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Genesis Fairmont Campus Tygart Center. She was born June 5, 1919 in Delight, AK a daughter of the late Irwin and Rebecca J. Baldree. She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard A. Faust in 1995
Mrs. Faust was a graduate of Quannah High School, Quannah, TX. After high school, she moved to Denver, CO and worked at Lowry Air Force Base during World War II. She met her husband, Barney, in Colorado. They were married and lived in Kansas for a while, before moving to West Virginia. She was a homemaker, dedicated to her family, and to raising her four children in Fairmont and later Buckhannon. She and her late husband also lived in Charleston, where she worked in retail, before retiring to Braxton County. In the late 1980’s they moved to Fairmont to be surrounded by their children, grandchildren and eventually great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She so looked forward to visits from the little ones, watching football and reading. She was a fantastic cook and enjoyed preparing special meals for family and friends. She was a member of the Central Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Fairmont.

She was preceded in death by one brother Robert E. Kelly and his wife Nadine, Texas.
Friends and family called the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, on Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 2PM until 9PM and on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 11 AM until 1PM. The funeral was held in the funeral home on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 1PM with Reverend Johnna Mansuetto officiating. Interment followed at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Fairmont, WV 26554.

Barbara Ann Knight
Barbara Ann Knight, 68, of Sutton passed away Feb. 2, 2013 at her residence on Erbacon Road. She was born on Jan. 4, 1945 in Sutton to the late Branty Ray and Gussie Mae Palmer Coffman.
Barbara was a Methodist by faith and a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband; Walter Knight, daughter and son-in-law Janette Kay and Zendell Casto of Erbacon Rd. ,Sutton, brother; Harry Coffman of Craigsville, sisters; Sharon Brown of Flatwoods, and Gloria Salisbury of Hickory Flats, and her daughters dog Rusty.
Funeral services were held 1:00 p.m. Thursday February 7, 2012 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton with Rev. Mark Coffman officiating. Friends called one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial followed in the Sigler Cemetery, near Erbacon.

Arthur “Lucky” Marks
Arthur “Lucky” Marks, 61, of Gassaway, died June 17, 2013 at CAMC Memorial Hospital.
Surviving; wife, Jeanette Barker Marks; children, Michael Marks, Timothy Marks and Melissa Marks; Grandson, Timothy Marks II.
Graveside service was held at 2:15 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Fairview Cemetery, Chapel with Pastor Jim Criner officiating.

Nora Belle Skidmore
Nora Belle Skidmore, 88, of Newville, passed away June 17, 2013 at home.
She was born August 20, 1924 in Wayne County, a daughter of the late John Henry and Nancy Elizabeth Gilkerson Wallace.
Nora was a homemaker and a Christian. She attended the Newville United Methodist Church. She loved to quilt, attend the Braxton County Senior Center, and sing in the North Sutton Charge Choir. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Bailey Dorse Skidmore; sons, James Bailey Skidmore and William Eugene Wallace; an infant grandson; three brothers and five sisters.
Surviving; daughters, Glenna Luzader and husband, Rodney of Newville, Mary Currence and husband, Roger of Newville and Polly Gerwig and husband, Gary of Exchange; son, Danny Skidmore and wife, Mary of Flatwoods; brother, Tom Wallace of Arizona; sister, Barbara Frame of Frametown; 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home with Pastors John McQuain and Ryan Skidmore officiating. Burial followed in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.
Friends called two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Fanny E. Alkire
Fanny E. Alkire, age 93, of Butler, PA, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 6:04 pm on Sunday, June 16, 2013.
Born June 8, 1920, in Rosedale, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late George W. VanBuren and Sophia Putnam VanBuren.
Mrs. Alkire was a homemaker and seamstress. For the last two years, she attended Lifesteps Adult Day Care. She was a member of North Main Street Church of God and most recently attended Discovery Christian Church in Cranberry Township. Her lifelong goal and crowning achievement was to follow her Lord and to be an example of God’s love to those who are hurting.
Mrs. Alkire is survived by one son, Darel Alkire (Brenda) of Little Rock, Arkansas, and by two daughters, Norma Mustake (George Deane) of Salinville, Ohio, and Debra Oyler (Paul) of Butler, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and one brother, David VanBuren of Rosedale, West Virginia.
Mrs. Alkire was preceded in death by her beloved husband Luther Alkire, whom she married on September 27, 1940. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Sharon Columbus and Donna Alkire; one son, Lawrence Alkire; several grandchildren; and 11 siblings.
Friends were received Wednesday, June 19, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania and Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 10 to 11 am at the North Main Street Church of God prior to the funeral service.
Services were held Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 11:00 am at the North Main Street Church of God, 1201 N. Main Street Ext., Butler, PA 16001 with Ethan and Debbie Harrington, Bryan Gratton, pastors of Discovery Christian Church, officiating. There was also a visitation held at the Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway, West Virginia, on Friday, June 21, 2013 from 10 am to 12 pm (Noon), prior to interment. Interment followed at Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway, West Virginia with John Edward Abersold, nephew of the deceased, officiating.

Kathy Sue Dawson
Kathy Sue Dawson, 56, of Sutton went to be with the Lord on June 21, 2013.
She was born on June 27, 1956 in Barberton, OH, the daughter of the late Mary Lou (Majors) Moore Wright and William Clark Moore.
Kathy was a homemaker and a member of Summersville Church of God. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, bingo, and most of all her family.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Dawson, children, Shelby Moore (Jim Lee) of Barberton, OH, Samantha Jarvis (Daniel) of Sutton, Nanette Kelly (Sam) of Birch River, Carl O. Dawson, Jr. (Kathy) of Gassaway, and Josh Moore of Sutton, brothers Ritchie Moore (Amy) of Toledo, OH, Johnny Moore (June) of Barberton, OH, sisters Char Husk (Melvin) of Doylestown, OH, Suzie Copen (Bob) of VT. Kathy was also a proud and loving grandma of 9 grandchildren, Ricky, Courtney, RJ, Cory, Levi, Zak, Zaron, Jaden, Isiah, and several step grandchildren, and several loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton with the Rev. Billy Dawson officiating. Burial will follow at Sigler Cemetery, Sutton, WV. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Greene-Robertson Funeral Home is humbly serving the Dawson family.
