Laura B. Kniceley
Laura B. Kniceley, 101, passed peacefully on June 16th at the home of her daughter Crisa Anese Berry and son-in-law Jack H. Berry of Stafford, VA.
Laura Kniceley was born on April 30, 1912. She was the widow of Loat Kinceley. She is survived by her daughters Annabelle May of Washington, NC and Crisa Anese Berry. Her grandchildren Pamela C. Thomas of Westlake, OH; Bernard S. Berry of Ventura, CA; C. Monique Berry of Burke, VA; Laurie Anne Berry of Manassas, VA; and Jacqueline D. Aker of Vienna, VA. Her great grandchildren are Collyn Berry of Ventura, CA; Mitchell Aker and Madison Aker of Vienna, VA.
She has a great great granddaughter Alice Inez Berry of Ventura, VA.
She is preceded in death by her husband Loat Kniceley, sisters Pearl Woodall and Irene Richardson. A brother Robert Stewart and their son Jack Kniceley.
Laura Kniceley was a member of the Stone Run and Flatwoods United Methodist churches. She had the honor of being a Flatwoods Belle.
Laura Kniceley cooked for the school and heard of the praise of her food by former students for many years. She was also employed by the Skidmore Truck Stop. She worked up into her 80’s.
She was an avid gardener, quilter, and puzzle enthusiast. She was a voracious reader and often stayed up late just to “see where this goes.” She was a fan of Dolly Parton and loved the Judge Judy Show. She was always ready to dance and could “really cut a rug.” Her sense of humor and laughter were a special part of her.
She has joined her sisters who were very close. Everyone knew the three sisters of Flatwoods.
Please join her family and friends to celebrate her life. She liked a good story and a joke. Please come and share your memories with all of us.
We will miss her dearly.
The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the Flatwoods United Methodist Church. Light refreshments will be served after the service.

Frank Teddy Clowser
Frank Teddy Clowser, 81, of Chapel, died July 16, 2013 at home.
He was born August 8, 1931 a son of the late Harley G. and Arka B. McElwee Clowser.
He was an oil well driller and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He played the fiddle and was Baptist.
He was preceded in death by wife, Betty Nicholas Clowser; son, Steven Brent Clowser and brother, Buddy Clowser.
Surviving; children, Frankie Clowser of Gassaway, Mark Clowser of Elyria, OH, Cindy Morgan of Grantsville and Janet Clowser of Gassaway; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Rev. Linn Schiefer officiating. Burial with military rites followed in the Bender Run Cemetery, Chapel.
Friends called two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Helen Faith Grounds Exline
Helen Faith Grounds Exline, 81, of Strange Creek, WV, passed away on March 19, 2013. She was born on October 14, 1931 in Cabin Creek, WV to the late Harrison and Delphia Minton Grounds.
Helen is survived by her daughters: Pat Duffield (Carl), Anita Rollyson (Nobel), Patricia Gillespie (Cliff); grandchildren: Carla Duffield Westfall (Ricky), Ronnie Duffield, Timmy Rollyson (Savahana, expecting a son), Walkeria Hudkins (Tim), Clarissa and Cecillia Gillespie; great-grandchildren: Elijha Westfall and Dusty Hudkins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Stanley Grounds and sister-in-law Freda Mae Grounds.
A memorial service for Helen will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Eureka Church on Keener’s Ridge Road. The graveside service will be open to any who wish to attend.

Hazel Gay Gross Casto
Hazel Gay Gross Casto, 84, of Franklin, PA died Thursday July 18, 2013, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital at Pittsburgh, PA after a sudden illness.
She was born March 2, 1929, in Sutton, WV to the late Orpha Hue and Delpha Gay Jenkins Gross.
Hazel was retired with J.C. Penney Department Stores as a Secretary. She worshipped at Grace United Methodist Church for 60 years in Franklin, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband; Rubel Ray Casto.
Surviving Hazel are her loving siblings; Johnie Gross and wife Diane , Kennieth Leon Gross, Jerry Gross and wife Pam, all of Sutton, Jimmy Gross and wife Arthela of Gassaway, Margie Best of Franklin, PA, Mildred Casto, Mary Mace, Louise Cline and husband Danny, Olive Fishbaugh and husband William all of Sutton and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton with Rev. Bill Hopkins officiating. Burial followed at the Barnett Cemetery, near Sutton. Friends called Sunday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family suggest donations to: UPMC Presbyterian Hospital Family House, 200 Lothrop Street Pittsburgh, PA 15213.

Bernice Olive Nottingham Moore
Bernice Olive Nottingham Moore, 86, of Servia, passed away on July 19, 2013 at Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Big Otter. She was born March 9, 1927 to the late Raymond and Darlie Mollohan Nottingham. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Charlie Moore and one sister, Linda Nottingham.
She is survived by her children: Kenneth & Donna Moore of Servia; Janet & Louie Mollohan of Duck; Allen Moore of Servia; Gary Moore of Servia; Terrie & Joe Bob Truman of Servia, and Michael Moore of Servia, sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings, Anna Lee Stahlman of Servia; Norman & Rosalie Nottingham of Servia; James & Vida Lea Nottingham of Duck; and Larry & Carol Nottingham of Servia.
She was a homemaker and member of the Villa Nova Missionary Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the Braxton County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and volunteered at the Mountaineer Food Bank.
Services were held at 10a.m. on Monday, July 22 at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home in Gassaway, WV, with the Rev. Joe Truman officiating. Burial will follow at the Moore Family Cemetery. Friends called Sunday, July 21, from 6-9p.m. at the funeral home.

Edgar Rollyson
Edgar Rollyson, 84, of Frametown passed away on July 20, 2013 at his residence. He was born on March 26, 1929 to the late Edgar R. Rollyson and Ivy Myrtle Hamric Rollyson.
He worked as a Heavy equipment and Light equipment mechanic. He was a Methodist by faith.
Edgar is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pearl Fox Rollyson; sons, Francis E. “Jack” Rollyson and wife Susie of Southport, NC, Kenny Ray Rollyson of Frametown; daughter, Melissa Renee Deuly & husband Dan of Frametown; sisters, Bernice Wiedner of OH, Nina Bailey of Akron, OH, Mildred Carroll of Akron, OH; a special niece who was like a sister, Phyllis Simmons, as well as 6 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold Rollyson, Charles Rollyson, Chelsie Rollyson, Beecher Rollyson; sisters, Edna Vincent, and Jean Bradey.
Services will be held at Noon on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway, WV, with the Rev. Brace Cook officiating. Burial will follow at the Rollyson Family Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, July 23 from 11:00a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Lillian Lee Bennett
Lillian Lee Bennett, 93, of Gassaway passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013 at her residence.
She was born March 7, 1920 in Gassaway, WV to the late George Elwood & Ora Olive Czigans Funk and was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Bennett.
Lillian was a retired Bookkeeper for The Bank of Gassaway & Bank of Richwood, a Homemaker, she attended Gassaway Baptist Church, was a graduate of Richwood High School, and a volunteer at Mountaineer Food Bank, Gassaway.
She is survived by her son; Gary L. Bennett & wife Mildred of Flatwoods, daughter; Patricia Crites of Sutton, grandchildren; Dustin Crites & wife Bridgette, Staci Lynch & husband Nathaniel, Jasmine Bennett, Terra Ghannoum, great grandchildren; Haylie Lynch, Liam Lynch and Skylar Ghannoum.
Funeral services were held 1:00 p.m. Thursday July 25, 2013 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton with Rev. Mark Stump officiating. Friends called one hour prior the service at the funeral home. Burial followed at Bealls Mill Cemetery, Gassaway.
Family suggest donations be made to: Gassaway Baptist Church, 400 Braxton St. Gassaway, WV 26624 or Mountaineer Food Bank, 180 Enterprise Dr. Gassaway, WV 26624.

Vanessa Lynn (Craft) Jarrell
Vanessa Lynn (Craft) Jarrell, 26, of 503 River Street, Gassaway, WV went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 21, 2013. Vanessa was born July 21, 1987 in Dunedin, FL a daughter of Rodney Craft and Cindy Craft. She was married to David Michael Jarrell, Jr. who survives. Vanessa was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Fletcher Craft and Leerie Craft, and maternal grandfather Robert Straley.
Vanessa is also survived by two daughters Nevaeh Jarrell, Ayvah Jarrell at home and one step-daughter Aleena Jarrell of Little Birch. Also surviving is mother-in-law Shelley Jarrell, maternal grandmother Louise Straley, one sister Tawnya Kemerer, one special nephew Joshua Robert Esch, and several Aunts and Uncles.
Vanessa was a Methodist by faith and a member of the Morrison Ridge United Methodist Church. She was a 2005 graduate of Braxton County High School. Vanessa was a professional shopper and loved going to the mall and trying on new clothes. Vanessa also loved to swim, loved to decorate, and loved to be with her friends. Her biggest joy was making a home for her husband and daughters. Vanessa was a giving person, loved helping others and will be greatly missed.
Family received friends at the Stockert-Gibson-Paletti Funeral Home, 225 Main Street, Flatwoods, WV on Thursday, July 25, 2013 from 4-8 P.M. Funeral Services were held on Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Stockert-Gibson-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jim Malick officiating. Interment followed services in the Morrison Ridge Cemetery. Memories and words of comfort may be expressed to the family at stocket-sizemore.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Nevaeh and Ayvah Jarrell College Education Fund, Bank of Gassaway, P.O. Box 40, Gassaway, WV 26624.

Charles Gilbert Kittner
Charles Gilbert Kittner, 85, of Sutton, passed away July 25, 2013 at Heartland Nursing Home of Clarksburg. He was born on August 25, 1927. He was the son of the late Audley Burdette & Margaret E. Watt Kittner. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Beverly Kay Walsten.
He was a Controller for the Elk Refinery, retired from Union Carbide Corporation in South Charleston, WV, attended Gassaway Baptist Church & Church of the Nazarene & Church of Christ, and was a WWII Navy Veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Louise (Coombs) Kittner, sons, Charles Anthony Kittner & wife Ilene of Sacramento, CA, Stephen Gilbert Kittner & wife Valentina of Davenport, FL, daughter, Deborah Jean Hively & husband Danny of Crossville, TN, grandchildren, Christy Dolonich, Casey Hively, and Betsy Hively all of Crossville, TN, Jessica Kittner Vallenga & husband Roy of UT, Jason Snow of MD, Michael Kittner of Layton, UT, Shannon Kittner of Sacramento, CA, Travis Kittner, Carol-Ann Kittner, and Daniel Kittner all of Davenport, FL, 5 great grandchildren, siblings, Alice Belz of Beaumont, TX, Blanch Vinson of Boynton Beach, FL, Marji Reyes of Lakeworth, FL, Esther Hackett of Reedsville, PA, Robert Kittner of Orange, TX, David Kittner of Louisville, KY.
At Charles’s request there will be no viewing or service. Burial has taken place at Braxton Memorial Cemetery near Sutton.

Charles Richard “Chuck” Allen
Charles Richard “Chuck” Allen, 65 passed on to be with the Lord at home, suddenly, on July 26, 2013.
Chuck was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing during his life. He quit school in the 10th grade to join the Armed Forces. In the Army, Chuck was a sergeant who earned several medals including three Bronze Stars during the Vietnam War.
After returning, Chuck began working for Ridge Tool in Ohio for 5 years. He then returned home to WV and started working for Appalachian Timber Service in Sutton. He worked there for 35 years until he retired in 2009, to spend time with his wife, Jean, and the rest of his family.
After his retirement Chuck went back to what he enjoyed; being the avid outdoorsman with his nieces, nephews, and granddaughters.
Surviving are Chuck’s wife of 44 years, Jean Allen of Normantown, daughter Jennifer Snodgrass, husband Greg and daughters Cassie and Megan of Charleston, WV, sister Tommy McKenzie and husband Joe of Grafton, Ohio, sister Vona Moss and husband Dale of Elyria, Ohio, brother Jerry Allen and wife Jan of Perkins, WV, brother Henry Allen and wife Judy of West Milford, WV, brother Shorty and wife Kay of Normantown, WV, plus several nieces and nephews.
Services for Chuck included a viewing at Richard Roach Funeral Home in Gassaway, WV on Monday, July 29, 2013 from 6-9 pm. The funeral services will be on Tuesday, July 30 at 1:00 pm at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Normantown, WV with Pastor Richard Westfall officiating.
