Father Edwin George Daschbach SVD
Father Edwin George Daschbach SVD age 70 of Good Sheperd Church, 701 Mineral Rd. departed this life at 4:22 a.m., Saturday, August 15, 2009 in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston following a brief illness.
He was born December 6, 1938 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late George and Beatrice Shimek Daschbach.
Father Ed as he was affectionately known, began his education at St. Canice, St Norbert, St Paul. Elizabeth (all in Pittsburgh); Profession of First Vows in the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) in 1958; Profession of Perpetual Vows: 1964; Ordination to the Priesthood: Jan. 15, 1966; Bachelor’s degree, St Mary’s Seminary at Techny, IL; Master’s degree in Religious Education, Fordham University, NY in 1970; Divine Word Seminary, Bordentown, NJ; 1966-1973 (taught religion and music); St. Thomas Parish, Gassaway, WV (1973-1978); St. Anne Parish, Webster Springs, WV (1978-1987); St. Rita Parish, Indianapolis, IN (1987); St. Peter/Christ the King Parish, Welch and War, WV (1987-1991); Good Shepherd Parish, Glenville, WV (1991-2009); Glenville State College, Glenville, WV (Chaplin, & teacher of Latin & ESL to Japanese students); Gilmer County High School (many years a teacher of Latin); regular columnist on the Catholic Faith for the Glenville Democrat/Pathfinder, Braxton Citizen News, & Webster Echo; he was chaplin at the Gilmer FCI & a long time member of the Gilmer Co. Ministerial Association.
He was an avid photographer and very proficient at it. He was an accomplished pianist and organist; author of numerous books on the Bible and the Catholic Religion in West Virginia.
Father Ed is survived by one brother: Father Richard Daschbach SVD orphanage in East Timor (formerly part of Indonesia); one sister, Judy Hernam and husband John of Collegeville, PA. He is survived by 2 nieces and 2 nephews and 7 great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass of the Resurrection was conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Glenville with Father Xavier Cooney SVD as Celebrant.
Ellyson Mortuary, Inc. assisted the Church and family of Father Edwin G. Daschbach with arrangements.

Margie Ann Maze
Margie Ann Maze, 69, of Little Birch, WV, died August 16, 2009 in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg. She was born June 14, 1940 in Sutton, WV a daughter of the late Isaac & Pearl Lockard Cutlip. Also preceding her in death were one son, Jimmy Dale Maze; one daughter Dora Jean Maze and seven sisters.
She was a Baptist and a homemaker.
She is survived by 5 sons Tom Maze of Hampton, KY, Roger Maze of Mundy, Billy Maze of Jumbo, Tim Maze of Birch River, and Bruce Maze of Little Birch; one daughter Helen Pullin of Little Birch; one brother William Cutlip of Ravena, OH; one sister Elgine Sill of Webster Springs; several grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, WV with Rev. Bill Griffin officiating. Burial was in the Ward Garee Cemetery, Little Birch. Friends called one hour prior to the service.

Thelma L. Conley West
Thelma L. Conley West, 84, of Burnsville, WV, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010 at her home after a long illness.
She was born on July 30, 1926 in Clarksburg, WV, a daughter of the late Coleman and Masel McCauley Conley. She was a retired Postmaster at Burnsville Post Office with 49 years of service. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Burnsville Lions Club. She was a former employee of the “Variety Store” in Burnsville. Thelma loved to cook, bake, fish and square dance.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Gilbert “Gib” West, sister, Wilma Blake and brother, Sam Conley.
She is survived by her son, Keith “Tink” (Terri) West of Erie, PA., and daughter, Kim West of Burnsville, WV.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 at
Stockert-Sizemore Funeral Home in Flatwoods, WV, with Rev. Bryon Bukovesky. Burial was in Quickle Cemetery in Burnsville, WV. Friends called from 5-8:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Robert Clagg, 43 of Buffalo passed away December 23, 2009 in CAMC Teays Valley Hospital.
Arrangements are incomplete and our Poca location is serving the Clagg family.

Mrs. Vanessa R. Davis, 37 of Bancroft passed away December 23, 2009 in Thomas Memorial Hospital.
Vanessa was a graduate of Poca High School and a nurse.
She is preceded in death by her mother Sharon Craigo Leighton.
She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Mr. Robert Davis, children Josh and Grace both at home; father Jerry L. and his wife Jeanette Withrow of Teays Valley and father and mother-in-law Chester and Lorraine Davis of Bancroft.
Funeral Mass will be 7:00 PM Monday December 28, 2009 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Manny Gelido officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Monday at the church. Burial service will be private at Haven of Rest Memory Gardens and Crematorium.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the National Stroke Association 9707 E. Easter Lane Centennial, CO 80112, www.stroke.org.

Mr. Harold Moore, of St. Albans passed away December 21, 2009.
Arrangements are incomplete and our Poca location is serving the Moore family.

Mrs. Bonnie G. Arthur, 69 of Hurricane went home to be with the Lord December 18, 2009 in St. Mary’s Hospital.
Mrs. Arthur was the eldest daughter of the late Martin Luther and Hattie Lucinda Lovejoy Eads. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church. Bonnie was also preceded in death by her husband Homer Lawrence “Larry” Arthur and brother Wilmer Darrel Eads.
She is survived by her children Jeanette and husband Scott Williams of Williamstown, WV, Martin and wife Betsy Arthur of Dayton, OH and Phillip G. Arthur and Maria Hoffman of Hurricane; sisters Carol Payne of Poca and Daisy and husband Ed Squirts of Dunbar; brothers Ralph Eads of Dunbar, Roger Eads of Winfield, Patrick Eads and wife Debbie of Rock Branch and Kenny Eads and wife Sharlee of Hometown; grandchildren Christy Arthur of Parkersburg, Emily, Ashley , Kyle, and Sarah Jean Williams of Williamstown, WV, Jonathan and Laura McCord of Dayton, OH, Billy Mullenex of Hurricane, and Jessica and Josh Huffman of Hurricane. Bonnie is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
A tribute to the life of Mrs. Bonnie G. Arthur will be 2:00 PM Tuesday December 22, 2009 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff Arthur officiating. Burial will follow in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens and Crematorium, Red House. The family will gather friends 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Mrs. Marjorie M. “Margie” Cook, 76 of Hurricane, formerly of Poca, went home to be with the Lord on December 18, 2009 in CAMC Memorial Division after a sudden illness.
Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband George “Jack” Cook, parents Stace and Pearly Stephens, brothers Junior Stephens and Paul Stephens and sisters Margaret Garton and Gwen Harris.
She is survived by her brother Doyle Stephens of Sheffield Lake, OH and sister Thelma Withrow of Poca; son Mark and wife Penny Cook of Nitro; daughters Kay Hazelett, Donna and husband Tim Moore, Jackie and husband Dave O’Brien all of Hurricane; grandchildren Patrick Hazelett, Nicole Moore, Christopher Cook, Derek Moore, Kelsey Cook, Kayla O’Brien and Hannah O’Brien. Margie is also survived by loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mrs. Cook was a homemaker and her life was devoted entirely to her family and grandchildren. She truly was a loving Christian woman, caregiver and the life of her family.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 7:30 PM, Monday December 21, 2009 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home. A tribute to the life of Mrs. Cook will immediately follow at 7:30 PM with David Garton (Nephew) and Rev. Harry Adkins officiating.
Interment will be 11:00 AM Tuesday December 22, 2009 at Haven of Rest Memory Gardens and Crematorium, Red House.

Mr. Paul R. Landers, 82 of Bancroft went home to be with the Lord January 22, 2010.
He was born December 6, 1927 in Poca, West Virginia. Paul was retired Senior Master Sergeant from the Army Air Force with 21 years of service and retired from Avtex. He was also a member of Lone Oak Church of God Mission.
He is survived by his wife of 62 1/2 years, Mrs. Genevieve M. Landers; son Ray and wife Patsy Landers of Bancroft; daughter Belinda and husband Dave Ludvigson of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; grandchildren Travis and wife Jennifer Ludvigson, Joshua and wife Wendy Landers, Paul Ludvigson, Erika and husband Tim Lovejoy; great grandchildren Cody, Chase, Sammy, Colton and Zachery.
A tribute to the life of Mr. Paul R. Landers will be 2:00 PM Wednesday January 27, 2010 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Nyle Fisher, Sr. and Ray Parsons officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens and Crematorium, Red House. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home.

Mr. Herbert Smith, 76 of Poca passed away January 22, 2010 at home.
Mr. Smith is retired from Raines Lincoln-Mercury and a Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his son Mark and wife Denise Smith of Poca; brother Bob Lewis Smith of Chelyan; sisters Lina Smith of MacCorkle, Reba Holcomb of Cleveland, OH, Blanche Smith of GA and Nancy Hinton of PA and grandson Joshua Smith.
A tribute to the life of Mr. Herbert Smith will be 1:00 PM Saturday January 30, 2010 at MacCorkle Freewill Baptist Church with Pastors Russell Wright and Butch Brogan officiating.

Mrs. Lois June Jessie Asbury, 82 of Kellys Creek went home to be with the Lord January 21, 2010 at her home.
Mrs. Asbury was known on Kellys Creek as "Maw Maw" to all the children. Her love for children and her family will never be forgotten. She was also a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Witcher.
She is preceded in death by her son Buster Asbury.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Mr. Cephas Asbury; daughter Dreama and husband Harvey Berna of Kellys Creek; daughter-in-law Sue Kiser of Kellys Creek; sister Janet Parcel of Rand; brother Billy Jessie of Kellys Creek; four grandchildren Lee and wife Cindy Slater, Cody and wife Sarah Slater, Stuart Asbury and Tressie Kiser and seven great grandchildren Kaylee, Chealse, Kaysie, Brandon, Dillon, Kayla, and Samantha.
The family would like to thank Scott and all the Hospice staff for the care given to our wife and mother. We would also like to thank our community, family and friends for the love, prayers and support during this difficult time.
A tribute to the life of Mrs. Lois Asbury will be 2:00 PM Sunday January 24, 2010 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Lawrence Slater and Donnie Kiser officiating. Burial will follow in the Clark Cemetery, Kellys Creek. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 PM Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Irma C. Cicero, age 94, of Charleston, passed away peacefully at Heartland of Charleston, Tuesday January 19, 2010.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Protestant faith. Irma was preceded in death by her husband Richard, and brothers Ralph, Skip, Jess and Dennis Pennington.
She is survived by five sisters, Reba Dunlap of Charleston, Elsie Nary of Elkview, Lorena Dunlap of Durham, NC, Myrtle Stinnett of Charleston, Frankie McCune of Evans, and Lula Belle McCutcheon of Ravenswood; two brothers, Gene Pennington of Charleston and Loren Pennington of Hurricane; forty four nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.
A tribute to Irma’s life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday January 23, 2010 at Harding Funerals & Cremations with Mr. Earl McCune officiating. Burial will follow in the Pennington Cemetery, Charleston.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Edward Marland Childress, 83 of Buffalo passed away March 3, 2010 in the Hubbard Hospice House.
He is retired captain with South Charleston Fire Department; former State Fire Marshall; retired from WV Division of Highways; Navy Veteran serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He is also a graduate of South Charleston and attended Morris Harvey College.
He is preceded in death by his wife Rita Sue Childress and son Johnny Childress.
He is survived by his children Isaac J. and wife Nancy Childress of Kansas, Michael A. Childress of Norfolk, VA, Marla J. Childress of Dallas, TX, Dennis S. and wife Louella Childress of Logan, OH, and Sue L. and husband Eddie Carter of Leroy; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A tribute to the life of Mr. Edward Marland Childress will be 11:00 AM Saturday March 6, 2010 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Harlan Casto officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Barnett Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Felix Krasyk, 83 of Kanawha City passed away March 3, 2010 in CAMC Memorial Division.
Arrangements are incomplete and our Kanawha City location is serving the Krasyk family.

Mr. Zane Michael Fletcher, 23 of Charleston passed away March 2, 2010 in CAMC General Division.
Zane is a 2004 graduate of Poca High School and former basketball player.
He is survived by his mother Barbara J. Fletcher of Charleston, father Bruce Fletcher of Charleston, brother Joshua Lee Fletcher of Rock Branch, sister Sara Nichole Fletcher of St. Albans, fiancée' Desaray Pauley of Charleston, maternal grandparents Michael J. and Phyllis J. Fore of TN and maternal great grandmother Blanche Zabel of TN.
A tribute to the life of Zane will be 2:00 PM Saturday March 6, 2010 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home.
