Kathy Ann Burd
Kathy Ann Burd, 49, of Barboursville, died Sept. 2, 2005, at her residence. The Lawrence County, Ohio, native was born Nov. 1, 1955. She was preceded in death by Raymond and Dorothy Christian, her father and mother. She is survived by her life-long partner, Marty Webb, who dearly misses her. She is survived by four children, Angel Morrison of Barboursville, Aaron Freeman of Scottown, Ohio, Brandy Russ of Wayne, and Jessie Burd of Barboursville. She had six grandchildren whom she dearly loved; Christian Lee Taylor Freeman-Morrison, Jenny-Lyn Brook Morrison, Nathan Dean Russ, Abbigail Leeann Russ, Jayden Maria Russ, and Eilee Elizabeth Freeman, plus two other grandchildren expected in the near future. The parents are Jessie Burd and Sarah Sowards (baby JJ) and Aaron and Lora Freeman (baby). She is also survived by her brother, Danny Lee Christian and his children, Jackie and Daniel, and her sister, Lisa Kay Ferris and her son, daughter and grandchild, Zack Ferris, Amber Jones and Colton Jones. She will be truly missed by us all. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at Hall Funeral Home by Pastor Bob Dennison. Burial in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, Ohio.

Cecil "Ray" Clagg
Cecil "Ray" Clagg, 62, of Lesage, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, September 1, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, September 4, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Pastor James Jobe. Burial in Union Ridge Cemetery. He was born January 17, 1943, in Milton, W.Va., a son of the late Cecil Clagg and Wilma Marie Bates Holley. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Lee Clagg and two sisters, Janet McCallister and Dianah Holley. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Ray and Kathy Clagg of Lesage; a daughter and son-in-law, Lavonna and Jason McFann of Glenwood; a sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Bill McCoy of Largo, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Brittany Nicole Clagg, Brittany Kay Clagg, Sarah Clagg, Hillary Reams, Kelsey Clagg, Kyle Clagg, Josh McFann, Jakeb McFann and Linzie McFann; a special companion, Vickey Henry; a lifelong friend, Butch Chapman; and a host of special nephews, nieces and friends.

Emory P. "Judd" Holley
Emory P. "Judd" Holley, 73 of Milton, W.Va., passed away Sunday, September 4, 2005, at Putnam General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville. Burial in Barker Ridge Cemetery. He was born June 27, 1932 in Cabell County, West Virginia, a son of the late Willie and Florence Tincher Holley. He was a retired employee of the W.Va. Department of Highways, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Willard Holley; four sisters, Cornelia Davis, Maxine Holley, Zadie Trippett and Josephine Blake. He celebrated 50 years of marriage this month with his wife, Sylvia Jenkins Holley. Also surviving are five sons, Jack and Beverly Holley of Culloden, David Holley and Wanda Cremeans of Milton, Donald and Amber Holley of Huntington, Terry and Michelle Holley of Charlotte, N.C., and Michael Holley and Amy Humphrey of Milton; two daughters, Emma and Elmer Dyer of Patriot, Ohio and Mary Lou and Danny Sigler of Milton, W.Va.; three brothers, Chester Holley of Lesage, W.Va., Fred Holley of Glenwood, W.Va., and Paul Holley of Ona, W.Va.; one sister, Nora Mae Henry of Glenwood; 18 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great- granddaughter. Emory had a very generous and loving soul. Everyone who knew him loved him dearly. He had a multitude of friends and he will be sadly missed.

Harold E. Joyce
Harold E. Joyce, 76, of South Point, Ohio, died Sunday, September 4, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at the 26th Street Baptist Church, Huntington, W.Va., with the Rev. Craig Gee and the Rev. Harry M. Scarberry officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Huntington. Harold was born June 25, 1929 in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late Clinton Marshall Joyce and Eva Mae Deal Joyce. He was a member of the 26th Street Baptist Church, a former labor liaison with the American Red Cross, an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the AFL - CIO. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his stepfather, Earl Maynard Davis and his first wife, Delores Adkins Joyce. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis June Keefer Joyce; four children, Pam (Sonny) Bowen and Janie Evans, all of Huntington, Kevin (Debby) Joyce of South Point, Ohio, and Perry (Vicki) Joyce of Cincinnati, Ohio; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Maynard Davis of Huntington and Donald Davis of Tulsa, Okla. Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.

James Henly Hesson
James Henly Hesson, 81 of Barboursville, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2005, at his residence. Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2005, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, by the Rev. Tony Vance. He was born March 30,1924, in Huntington, a son of the late Joseph James and Cora Brannen Hesson. He was a self-employed service station owner and operator, and a former employee of Houdialle Industries and ACF Industries. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force and served during World War II. He was a Christian by faith. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Irvin, Chando, Llewellyn, Charles, Lallaunce Junior and Roscoe Hesson; and sisters, Justie Oldaker and Elosle Dennison. He is survived by his wife, Edith Watts Hesson; one daughter, Pamela McComas of Prichard; two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Hesson of Barboursville, and Mike and Debra Hesson of Wayne County; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. There was no visitation. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Lily M. Walker
Lily M. Walker, 87, of Huntington, passed away Monday, August 29, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, by the Rev. Paul Day. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington. She was born July 18, 1918, in Martin County, Ky., a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Betty Muncy Hall. She was also preceded in death by her husband Clinton Lee Walker, three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Clint and Denia Walker of Lavalette; one sister, Gladys Sellers of Jane Lew, WV; three grandchildren, Jeremy Walker, Clinton Lee Walker and Amanda Acord; and five great-grandchildren

James Darryl "Jimmy" Bantaa
James Darryl "Jimmy" Bantaa, 38, of Barboursville, W.Va., husband of Angie Spurlock Bantaa, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2005, at his residence. He was born February 19, 1967, in New Orleans, La., the son of Lewis Bantaa of Shalmette, La., and Carolyn Cook of South Marlow, Okla. Additional survivors include his sons, James Caleb Bantaa and Ashton Cole Bantaa both at home; a brother, Michael Bantaa of Muskogee, Okla.; his stepfather, Jim Cook also of Muskogee, Okla.; and his special friends at Affordable Dentures of Barboursville. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at Chapman's Mortuary with Pastor Jeff Sizemore officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Baylous Cemetery. Corbet Dewey Oldaker
Corbet Dewey Oldaker, 84, of Lesage, widower of Magdelean F. Oldaker, died Tuesday, August 30, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted 12:30 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2005, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with the Rev. Phillip Bowen officiating. Burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Huntington. He was born February 28,1921, in Lesage, W.Va., a son of the late Charles and Hildred Carter Oldaker. Also preceding him in death was one daughter, Betty Joe Oldaker and one brother. Corbet was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from St. Mary's Medical Center laundry and was a member of Community Holiness Chapel Church. Survivors include four daughters, Marcie Maricle of Lesage, Louella and Roger Smith of Haysville, Kan., Brenda and William Jarrell of Lesage, and Mary and James Harper of Lesage; one son, Carl Oldaker, also of Lesage; three sisters, Bertha, Juanita and Rosie; two brothers, Roy and Andrew; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Chapman's Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Ronald Lee Adkins
Ronald Lee Adkins, 52, of Lesage passed away Sunday, August 21, 2005, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Graveside services were conducted Friday, August 26, 2005, at Woodmere Memorial Park, Abby of Peace Chapel. He was born May 24, 1953, in Huntington, a son of Homer Adkins of Lesage and the late Hattie Mae Beckett Adkins. He is also preceded in death by one brother, Homer Herald Adkins; maternal grandparents, Ernest Beckett and Ella Mae Venoy; paternal grandparents, Andrew Jackson Adkins and Eunice Irene Chapman. Ronald attended Lincoln Junior High School and graduated from Huntington East High School. He also served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ron and Leslie Adkins and Tim Adkins; one daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Linville Brandenburg; the loves of his life, five grandchildren, Colton Adkins, Julia Adkins, Brittany Brandenburg, Justin Brandenburg and Austin Brandenburg; four brothers, Kenneth Adkins, David Adkins, Ray Adkins and Harold Adkins; four sisters, Eunice Ross, Judy Suiter, Stella Dobis and Barbara Lewis. Heck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

John Bernard Murphy
John Bernard Murphy, 79, of Barboursville passed away at home. Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at Our Lady of Fatima Church conducted by the Rev. James Sobus. Entombment in White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. He was born April 21, 1926, at Uniontown, Pa., son of the late James W. and Maude Horne Murphy. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Huntington; a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II; a volunteer at HealthSouth and Martha Elementary School; and was a Eucharistic Minister at the church. He is survived by his wife, Mary Fumich Murphy; three daughters, Cindy Manning of Charleston, Mary Beth Mullins and her husband Michael of Charleston and Joan Kingery and her husband Jeff of Barboursville; grandchildren, John, Emma, Madeline, Matthew, Brendan and Rachel; a brother, James Murphy of Oakmont, Pa. Henson Mortuary, was in charge of arrangements. Contributions may be made in his honor to Genoa Christian Center, Genoa, WV 25517.

Helen Virginia Steele Showalter
Helen Virginia Steele Showalter, 83, of Huntington, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2005, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, August 24, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Judy Fisher. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. She was born October 30, 1921, in Logan, WV, a daughter of the late Leland S. Steele Sr. and Ella Mae Whitmer Steele. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Katherine Anne Showalter, and one brother, Leland S. Steele Jr. She is survived by her husband, Robert H. "Bob" Showalter; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet Lee and Charles Repp of Ann Arbor, Mich.; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Jan Showalter of Orlando, Florida; one sister, Mary Katherine Steele Graham of Charleston; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Steele of Milton; and four grandchildren, Amy Repp, Katherine Repp, Ariel Showalter and Jonathan Showalter.

Mary K. Lovell Pfadt
Mary K. Lovell Pfadt, 96, of Barboursville, formerly of Hollywood, Fla., passed away Sunday, December 4, 2005, at The Inn at Wyngate, Barboursville. Graveside funeral services were conducted Wednesday, December 7, 2005, at Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, W.Va. with Father Jim Sobus officiating. She was born January 24, 1909, in Yawkey, W.Va., a daughter of the late George and Emma McLaughlin Lovell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John M. Pfadt; sister Rose Marie Lovell King; niece, Betty Jo King; nephew Robert King; and grand-nephew Stephen R. Ward. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and school in Huntington, W.Va., as a child. Mrs. Pfadt was a purchasing agent for the Blazers with Ashland Oil Refining and volunteered as a Girl Scout troop leader with Holy Family Catholic Church, Ashland, Ky., in the 1940s. She moved to Florida with her husband in the 1950s, where she was an active member at Nativity Catholic Church and Little Flower Catholic Church. She was also an active member with the Legion of Mary and Respect Life in Florida. She is survived by Rita M. Ward of Lavalette, W.Va.; cousin Bob McLaughlin of Kenova, W.Va.; grand-nephew Daniel J. Ward and his wife Delores of Barboursville, W.Va.; grand-niece Jacquelyn M. Ward of North Carolina; step grandchildren, Susan Perkins, Chris Floden, Frederick Pfeifer, Michael Molley and Thomas Molley, and special friends in Florida, Marge and Mary. The family would like to thank Hospice of Huntington for the care they provided to Mary.

Bada Lee Parkins
Bada Lee Parkins, 84, of Paradise went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 19, 2005, at CAMC in Kanawha City after a short illness.
Born Dec. 10, 1920, in Gassaway, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Ralph Ranson Parkins; her mother, Iva Letha Stonestreet Carroll; her brother, Ivan Carroll; and sister, Ivy Dye.
Bada is fondly remembered for her work in the West Virginia Baptist Association with children and missions.
She began her tutelage of children at Judson Baptist Church, Bill's Creek and continued at Riverside Baptist Church, Red House where she has been an active member since 1960. Her 50 years of church work encompassed choir membership, ABW officer, Chairman of Christian Board, Chairman of Children's Work, and 50 years of teaching.
As Chairman of Children's Work, she organized and delivered training for WV Baptist teachers that enabled them to implement an extended hour session during morning church services, a concept that flourished during the late 1950s. Her teaching ability led her to "piloting" the kindergarten curriculum for Putnam County Schools prior to offering this program for children in Putnam County Public schools.
Bada is survived by her sister, Beulah Albaugh of Norman, Ok; her three daughters and their families, Barbara and Charles Woodrum of Dunbar, Beth and Jamie Cox of Liberty, and Beverly and Roger Thornton of Red House.
Remembered as Grandma Bada by nine grandchildren, William Trippe McKeny and wife, Bridget, of Rockwell, N.C., Chantil McCormick and husband, Donald, of Red House, Benjy Cox and wife, Brandy, of Winfield, Jay Cox, member of the 130th ANG Reserves and wife, Miccah, of Hurricane, Stephen Cox and wife, Keara, of Charleston, S.C., Andy Cox, serving the Navy in Virginia and fiancÈe, Whitney Gibson of Bancroft, Dustin Withrow, serving the Navy in Virginia, Kara Donahue of Brandon, Fla.; brother, Roy McCune of Charleston; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 23, 2005, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Pitchford officiating. Burial in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Emily Mynes Henson
Emily Mynes Henson, 98, of Hurricane, W.Va., died Saturday, November 19, 2005, at Sunbridge of Putnam following a long illness.
Born September 11, 1907, in Hurricane, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Joseph Lynnwood and Elizabeth I. Hill Mynes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Stewart Henson.
She was a retired teacher from the Putnam County School Board, serving 29 years at Hurricane Elementary, and had 'formerly taught in Kanawha County Schools as well. She was a member of Retired Teachers, county, state, and national, Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Teachers Society, Kan Alban Garden Club, Ann Bailey Chapter DAR, and the Mount Salem Homemakers. She was a member of The Catholic Church of the Ascension, where she was also involved with the We Care/We Share program and the church league.
Surviving is her sister, Luella Mynes Henson of Winfield, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
The services were conducted Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at Chapman Funeral Home, 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, W.Va., with Father Neil Buchlein officiating. Burial in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Joseph Edward King
Mr. Joseph Edward "Joe" King, 42, of Nitro went home to be with the Lord November 18, 2005.
Joe was a caring, compassionate, loving, and devoted husband and father. Joe was a gentleman that would help anyone with anything. He loved to hunt and fish and spending time with his family.
He was an employee of PSI.
Joe is survived by his best friend and wife of 21 years, Mrs. Judy King; daughter, Jessica of Teays Valley; son, Justin of Nitro; Mother and Father, Connie and Jim Clark of Marmet; father, Joe "Buster" King of Nitro; sisters, Cathy King and Melinda Yeager, both of Cabin Creek; brothers, Matt Clark of North Carolina and Mark Clark of Marmet; mother-in-law, Ruth Thompson of Poca; niece, Amanda Stanley of Cabin Creek: and dearest friends, Teke and Glenna Shaffer of Charleston. Joe is also survived by aunts; uncles; cousins; and a host of friends.
A celebration of Joe's life was held Wednesday, November 23, 2005, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randall Wilson officiating. Burial in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
