David F. Morris
David Frederick Morris, 62, of Parkersburg
passed away Nov. 12, 2005, at St. Joseph's
Hospital.
He was born in Harrison County, a son of the
late Amos and Mabel Davis Morris.
Dave was a member of the Camden Avenue Church
of Christ. He enjoyed reading his Bible,
playing guitar, playing music and cards.
Surviving are four sisters, Alma Leslie
Buskirk, Jo Ann Caplinger, Betty J. Bennett
and Garnet Morris, all of Parkersburg; and
several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers,
Theodore "Phillip" Morris and Aubrey Morris;
and two sisters, Kathryn McGee and Margaret
DeMasters.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday
at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with the Rev. Dr. Kevin Phillips
officiating. Burial will follow at Wood County
Cemetery at Cedar Grove. Friends may call from
5-8 p.m. Tuesday.
James B. Strothers
James Brian "Jim" Strothers, 48, of
Parkersburg passed away Nov. 11, 2005, from
injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Jim was born June 25, 1957, in Parkersburg, a
son of Theda Pauline Harris Strothers Sears of
Parkersburg and the late Willard W. Strothers.
He was retired from the United States Army and
was employed by the United States Postal
Service. He was baptized at Grace Baptist
Church and was a member of the Mt. Olivet
Masonic Lodge No. 3. He enjoyed the outdoors
and was an avid hunter.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his
wife, Roberta Baker Strothers; two sons, Shawn
Strothers and his wife, Jennifer, and Eric
Strothers, all of Akron, Ohio; a daughter,
Taylor Whittekind of Marietta; a brother,
David W. Strothers and his wife, Debra, of
Belpre; a sister, Theresa Lykins and her
husband, Richard, of Parkersburg; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William
Strothers.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Pastor John Barker
officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen
North Cemetery with military rites conducted
by the American Legion Post 15. The family
will be receiving friends and relatives from 2-
4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
David L. Lewis
David Lee Lewis, 66, of Route 1, Elizabeth,
passed away Nov. 6, 2005, at Camden-Clark
Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Pennsylvania, a son of the late
William and Margaret Leekley Lewis. He was
Baptist and was a retired roofer.
Surviving are his wife, Diane Kelly Lewis; two
sons, Kenneth Lydic of Pennsylvania and
Timothy Lewis of Elizabeth; four daughters,
Tiffaney Witchley of Elizabeth, Joyce Landman
and Lisa Lewis, both of Texas, and Michelle
Lewis of Pennsylvania; 28 grandchildren; two
brothers, Clyde Lewis and Lester Lewis, both
of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Mary Angeloff
and Freda Tortis, both of Pennsylvania; and
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne
Lewis; three brothers, William, Arthur and
Harold Lewis; and a sister, Beatrice Lewis.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. today at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with the Rev. Steve States
officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends
may call from noon until service time today at
the funeral home.
William Alva "Ab" "Alvie" Riel, 82, of Jerry's
Run in Wood County, passed away Oct. 31, 2005,
at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Riel was well known in the southern Wood
County areas of Rockport, Belleville and
Wadesville, and also had many friends in and
around Parkersburg and in Jackson County.
He was affiliated with the Pond Creek Baptist
Church. He was a former employee of the West
Virginia Department of Highways, Parkersburg
Rig and Reel and was a dairy farmer. At one
time he operated the Jerry's Run General Store
and was a member of the Fraternal Order of
Eagles in Parkersburg.
He is survived by his son, Gene A. Riel and
his wife, Valory, of West Salem, Ohio; two
grandchildren, Todd Riel of West Salem and
Kelly Riel Grasley and her husband, Allen, of
Bloomville, Ohio; and a great-grandson, Blake
Riel of West Salem. Also surviving are special
friends, Mavis Hoover of Parkersburg and
Harold and Mary Carson of Rockport.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday
at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Pastor Jerry Caplinger and
the Rev. Clay Sloan officiating. Burial will
follow at Pond Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today
at the funeral home.
William Earl Carr, 81, of the Arbors of
Marietta, formerly of Parkersburg, passed away Oct. 28, 2005, at the Arbors.
He was born Aug. 2, 1924, in Braxton County, a
son of the late William Lee and Bertha Carr.
Mr. Carr was a member of Grace Gospel Church
and was a retired coal miner.
Surviving are two sons, Bill Carr of Vienna
and David Earl Carr and his wife, Beverly, of
Lexington, Ky.; one daughter, Nancy Margaret
Grosso of Vienna; three grandchildren, Jeffrey
Jay Hines and his wife, Rhonda, of
Parkersburg, David Christopher Carr and his
wife, Sarah, of Northville, Mich., and
Jonathan Christian Carr of Columbia, S.C.; one
great-grandchild, Brandon Jeffrey Hines; and
one sister, Helen Bungori of Bellaire, Md.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51
years, Mary M. Lawrence Carr in 2000; a son-in-
law, Russell Grosso; three brothers; and one
sister.
The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Pastor Mike Allen
officiating. Burial will follow at the King
Knob Cemetery in Ritchie County. Friends may
call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior
to services Monday at the funeral home.
Juanita J. Taylor, 84, of Parkersburg passed
away Oct. 17, 2005, at Marietta Memorial
Hospital.
She was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Kentucky, a
daughter of the late John Jefferson and Martha
Ellen McIntosh Farnsworth. Juanita retired
from Corning Glass with 32 years of service.
She graduated from Mountain State Business
College and had attended Epworth United
Methodist Church. She was a member of the
Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion.
Before working at Corning, she had worked for
Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt in Washington, D.C.
Surviving are three sons, Jimmy R. James and
Randy M. James, both of Parkersburg, and
Robert N. Taylor of St. Albans, W.Va.; two
daughters, Sharon McKissic of Mineral Wells
and Debra Hoffman of Vienna; 11 grandchildren;
five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary
Twyman of Parkersburg.
She was preceded in death by her first
husband, Ivan Curtis James; her second
husband, Robert Taylor; a daughter, Deanna
Rose Taylor; and an infant brother.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday
at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Chaplain Zane Kesselring
officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset
Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2-4 and
6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
