Jack L. Eads, 75, of Columbus, Ohio, died Sept. 7, 2005.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today at
Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg. American
Legion Post 15 will conduct military rites.
Kimes Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.
Janice J. Walther
Janice J. Walther, 79, of Parkersburg passed
away Sept. 2, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
She was born Dec. 2, 1925, at Follansbee,
W.Va., a daughter of the late Lloyd G. and
Cora Milhoan Burdette. Janice was a homemaker,
she enjoyed her family, was of the Christian
faith and enjoyed reading her Bible.
Surviving are her two sons, Curtis L. Walther
and his wife, Cathy, of Parkersburg and Samuel
D. Walther and his wife, Gail, of Vienna;
seven grandchildren, Nicole Ramsey, C.B.
Walther, Rachel Walther, Ryan Walther, Sean
Walther, Kyle Walther and Chantel Whipkey;
four great-grandchildren, Halley Ramsey, Jhett
Ramsey, Cole Tyson and William Walther; two
brothers, Lloyd G. "Duge" Burdette and his
wife, Frances, and Thomas L. Burdette, all of
Murraysville, W.Va.; two sisters, Doris I.
Smith of Belleville and Norma Delong and her
husband, Adrian, of Murraysville; and several
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Marlin O. Walther in 1998; a brother, Lewis
Burdette in 1992; and a sister, Hildreth
Salser in 1981.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Pastor Randy Dornon
officiating. Entombment will follow in the
Chapel of Peace at Sunset Memory Gardens.
There will be visitation from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Sunday at the funeral home.
Mildred I. Hurst
Mildred I. Holtz Hurst, 84, of Parkersburg
passed away Sept. 2, 2005, at Camden-Clark
Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 27, 1921, in Parkersburg, a
daughter of the late Frank C. and Lola Gray
Holtz. Mildred enjoyed Parkersburg South High
School sports and was so proud of the Erickson
All-Sports Facility in south Parkersburg, a
dream come true. She was also an avid local
stock car enthusiast.
Surviving are a son, Ryan Hurst and his wife,
Cynthia, of Grove City, Ohio; two grandsons,
Trace and Tyler Hurst of Grove City; a
granddaughter, Kelsie Hurst of Grove City; a
daughter, Carolyn Lowe of Parkersburg and her
fiance, Larry Brumfield of Ashton, W.Va.;
three sisters, Virginia McDonald, Frances
Foglesong and Lucy Marie Cook, all of
Parkersburg; several nieces and nephews; and a
special niece, Connie Hurst Farnsworth and her
husband, Russ, of Parkersburg.
She was preceded in death by her beloved
husband of 48 years, Clifford O. "Skip" Hurst
in 1992; her precious little dog of 11
years, "Chelsie" in 2003; two brothers,
William and Franklin Holtz; a sister, Alice
Hardesty; an infant sister; and three brothers-
in-law, Archie Cook, Glen McDonald and Ayward
Foglesong.
There will be a graveside service 2 p.m.
Sunday at Evergreen South Cemetery with burial to follow. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m.
today at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg.
Wilma E. Craven
Wilma Ellen Means Craven, 89, of Fairview
Avenue, Parkersburg, passed away Aug. 21,
2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
She was born Aug. 18, 1916, at Lake Lynn, Pa.,
a daughter of the late Ernest and Alice Farr
Means. She grew up at Smithfield, Pa. Wilma
was a government employee, having worked for
the Social Security Administration in
Baltimore, Md., and the Bureau of Public Debt
and the Internal Revenue Service in
Parkersburg.
She was an active member of the Baptist Temple
Church for over 50 years, where she served as
church clerk for 19 years, was active in the
Margaret Turley Bible Class and the church
missionary program, where she held offices in
both and also served as Circle Leader.
Surviving is her daughter, Vivian Gray of
Stockport, Ohio; a sister, Freda Conn of
Uniontown, Pa.; two grandchildren, ReNay Scott
and her husband, Tony, of Nashport, Ohio, and
Ron Elswick and his wife, Brenda, of
Zanesville, Ohio; three great-grandchildren,
Shelbie Courtney, Madison Scott and Emily
Elswick; another great-grandchild due to be
born in November; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Doyle C. Craven; an infant brother; and a
sister.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg. Burial will follow at Evergreen
North Cemetery. The family will be receiving
friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the
funeral home.
Thomas E. Deem
Thomas E. Deem, 87, of Parkersburg died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Camden-Clark
Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 23, 1918, at Slate Creek,
Wirt County, W.Va., a son of the late Francis
Josire Deem and Nancy Estella (Weekley) Deem.
Mr. Deem had retired from Kaiser Aluminum of
Ravenswood with 23 years of service. He had
also previously been employed with the
KieKeffer Box Factory, was a World War II U.S.
Air Force veteran and was a member of the
Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was
very active and had served in various
positions and committees, including the
finance board, trustee and usher. He is a
member of the United Methodist Men and the
Trinity Seniors.
He is survived by his wife, Dora Belle
(Griffin) Deem; one daughter, Marsha Doreen
Deem and husband, Mike, of Washington, W.Va.;
two sons, Dale Thomas Deem and wife, Christy,
of New Martinsville and Stephen Wayne Deem and
wife, Diane, of Parkersburg; one sister, Nancy
Watson of Reedsville, Ohio; six grandchildren;
eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Janet
Dowler.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at
the Trinity United Methodist Church with
Pastor James Burdette officiating. Burial will
follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens, where
military graveside rites will be conducted by
the American Legion Post 15. Family will
receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday
at the Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg.
The family has requested that all memorial
donations be made in memory of Mr. Deem to the
American Cancer Society.
