George D. Good Jr.
George Dewey Good Jr., 82, of Scott Depot died December 2, 2005, at Hubbard Hospice House.
He was born July 26, 1923 to George Dewey Good and Flossie Edith Beane Good of St. Albans.
He attended St. Albans High School and Morris Harvey College. He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Hurricane, where he served as Deacon, usher and Sunday school teacher, as well as on other boards. He worked for Columbia Gas transmissions as an accountant supervisor, retired in 1979.
He served in World War II in the 8th Air Force as a lead bombardier, completing his tour of 30 missions. He served in the 130th Air Guard Group, retired as base comptroller with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
He taught himself how to paint at the age of 50 and was a member of West Virginia Allied Artists and enjoyed painting landscapes.
Surviving: his wife of 63 years, Sallie Venetta Young Good; daughter, Suzanne Christian of St. Albans; son, George Good III of Charlottesville, Virginia; grandsons, Robert Marshall Good of Port Orange, Florida and Stephen George Good of Charlottesville; granddaughters, Sally Kay Christian Blackburn of Hurricane and Kathleen Good Morris of Ruckersville, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Eric Blackburn of Hurricane, Thomas George Good of Port Orange, and Hailey Nicole Morris of Ruckersville.
A memorial served was held Monday, December 5, 2005, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. His body was donated to Marshall University School of Medicine. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Steps of Faith Fund, Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 2150 Mount Vernon Road, Hurricane WV 25526.

John Wesley Pratt
John Wesley Pratt, 91, of Huntington, W.Va., was released from his physical life and now rests in heaven’s bliss on January 19, 2006, surrounded by all his family. He was the son of the late Millard Adline Childers Pratt. He was preceded in death by one son, Clifford; five brothers, Ray, Frank, Forest, Emery and Clifford; two sisters, Wilma Gue and Marie Thompson; one son-in-law, J. Jackson Pauley; two nephews, Phillip Thompson and Carroll Fayne Pratt; two nieces, Sharon Richmond and Roberta Gue. He was a member of Salt Rock Methodist Church and Hamlin Masonic Lodge #79 AF&AM. To his knowledge he was the last survivor of Frederick Engineering, who did the development and preparation of the land for Cabell Huntington Hospital and the Tri-State Airport. He retired from Boone County Coal Corporation. He leaves behind a legacy of one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Pauley of Huntington with whom he made his home; one son and daughter-in-law, John Wesley Pratt II and his wife Susan of Huntington; four grandchildren, John Russell (Karen) Pauley of Hurricane, W.Va., David Jackson (Dawn) Pauley of Fort Bragg, N.C., John Allen Pratt, of Ona, W.Va., and Kimberly Pratt of Huntington; three great-grandchildren, Kaala, Kirsten and Katherine Pauley of Fort Bragg, N.C.; 19 nieces and nephews; 57 great-nieces and nephews; 36 great-great-nieces and nephews; five great-great-great -nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Birdie Pratt of Salt Rock, W.Va. and Pearl Pratt, of Plain City, Ohio; three special friends, David Howell, Shelia Adams and Joan Gibson.
The family wishes to thank Margie Copley, Sharon Hanna, Josh Hensley, Patty Napier and the entire staff of Hospice for the wonderful care and attention they gave. Also thanks to Kathy, Sabrina and all of those at Gentivia for their care and thoughtfulness as well. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington, PO Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709, or to Sunshine Freewill Baptist, 2111 James River Rd. Huntington, WV 25701. Masonic graveside services were conducted by Hamlin Lodge #79 at Morrisons Cemetery, Bowen Creek. Honorary pallbearers were Doug White , Delane Ball, Eddie Crawford, Charles Pletka and Ezra Crabtree. Services were conducted by the Rev. Clarence G. McComas and the Rev. Scott Ferguson, Saturday, January 21, 2006 at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville.

Charles Raymond “Lightning” Gibson
Charles Raymond “Lightning” Gibson, 76, of Barboursville, W.Va., passed away Sunday, January 15, 2006, at Heartland of Riverview. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Fred Anderson. Burial in Woods Cemetery. He was born March 19, 1929, in Barboursville, a son of the late Thomas D. and Madge E. Lilly Gibson. He was a retired employee of Brady Hardware. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Mae Gibson; two sons, Billy Joe Woods and Mitchell Vickers; one sister, Bessie Bates and one brother, Ralph Gibson. He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Sandra K. Carey-Neal of South Point, Ohio, and Lou Ann and Glen Martin of Barboursville; one son and daughter-in-law, Frankie and Lisa Vickers of Huntington; three sisters and one brother-in law, Ruth Vance, Virginia Vance and Helen and Hank Kuhn, all of Barboursville; grandchildren, Josh Carey, Amy Willis, Jonathan Martin and his wife Tiffany, Teresa Woods and Chris Vickers; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Larry Schultz. Pallbearers were Glen Martin, Jonathan Martin, Josh Carey, Larry Bates, Mark Woods, and Roy Bills.

Irene Foster
Irene Foster, 93, of Milton went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 16, 2006, at her home. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 19, 2006, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, by the Rev. Tracy Mills. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born August 24, 1912, a daughter of the late Walter Glenn and Carrie Hinkle Glenn. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Foster; brothers, Harold, Lloyd, Floyd, and Wilbert Glenn; one sister, Gladys Wilson; one great-granddaughter, Teresa Foster. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Harvey and Wanda Foster of Milton; one sister, Ivy Reese of Dunbar; two grandchildren, Dwane Foster and his wife, Sheila of Milton, Glen Foster and his wife, Maureen of Milton; three great-grandchildren, Kirk, Lacye and Scott Foster.

Kenneth S. Thacker
Kenneth S. Thacker, 83, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 16, 2006, in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 19, 2006, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Tracy Mills officiating. Entombment in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born March 28, 1922, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late H.E. and Ethel Foster Thacker. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Lee Thacker. Kenneth was a member of Union Baptist Church, a 50-year member of the Lebanon Lodge 768 AF&AM, Milton, 4 degree Scottish Rite, and a member of the OES Chapter 149, Milton, and a retired heavy equipment operator for Avtex Corp., Nitro. He loved hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Blanche G. Thacker; son Gale W. Thacker of Milton; granddaughter Tina Browning of Milton, a special friend Shelia Ray; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Union Baptist Church, Building Fund.

William E. Black
William E. Black, 66, died suddenly January 16, 2006, at his home in Milton (Pensacola) Florida. Bill was born June 13, 1939, in Huntington. He retired from Huntington District Corps of Engineers with over 34 years of service. He had resided in Milton, Fla., for the past 10 years, where he was employed with the Santa Rosa County Engineering Dept. Bill also pursued his lifelong hobby of wood working. Mr. Black is survived by his wife of 27 years, Elizabeth Gayle Black of Milton, Fla.; his son, Timothy Black of Proctorville, Ohio; three grandchildren, Billy, DJ. and Justin Black; his parents, Carl and Juanita Black of Barboursville; sister Judy (Phillip) Ranson of Huntington; two brothers, Rod Black of Barboursville and Steve (Lavonna) Black of Teays Valley, W.Va. A memorial assembly was held Saturday, January 21, 2006, at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville.

James David Collins
James David Collins, 43, of Huntington, died Jan. 19, 2006, in St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born Nov. 28, 1962, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Betty Scarberry Collins Ritchie of Huntington and the late Henry Collins. He is survived by his wife, Julie Robertson Collins, four sons, Christopher Collins, with the US. Army in Iraq, Andrew Collins, of Leighton, Ala., Justin Collins, of Chicago and Adam Collins, of Huntington; two daughters, Barbara and Sydney Collins, of Huntington; three brothers, Richard Collins of Wyoming, Paul Collins of Chicago, Robert Collins of Gallipolis, Ohio; six sisters, Helen Wilburn, Patty Woods of Huntington, Rebecca Collins, Charleston, Deborah Ellis, Old Hickory, Tenn., Beverly Collins, Chicago, Maysol Collins, of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by one sister, Carol Collins and one brother-in-law, William M. “Billy Joe” Woods and his stepfather, Levi Ritchie. Johnny Lynn Drown
Johnny Lynn Drown, 52, of Huntington, went to be with the Lord, Friday, Jan. 20, 2006. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Pastor Bill Crawford. Burial in Bowen Cemetery. He was born Oct. 13, 1953, in Huntington, a son of the late Pearl and Jewel Childers Drown. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Leonard Drown, and one sister, Brenda Pearl McCloud. He graduated from Barboursville High School and served in the US. Navy from 1974 to 1987. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Irene Wheeldon Drown; one daughter, Leslie Renea Drown; three stepchildren, Satonia Annette Launis of Stella, Mo., Kelly Coleen Coleman of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Kirk Michael Ellison of Joplin, Mo.; four sisters, Joyce Frank and her husband Don of Akron, Ohio, Helen Lester and her husband Ottie of Huntington, Sharon Shannon and her husband Leo of Lesage and Katheryn Ballengee of Huntington; two brothers and their wives, Ceron and Doris Drown of Milton and Larrimore and Pam Drown of Delbarton, W.va.; a special aunt, Juanita Smith; three special friends, Bonnie Casteel, Ellis Richards and John Bohlmann; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Sue Yvonne Maynard
Sue Yvonne Maynard, 72, of Barboursville, passed away on January 18, 2006, at the Cleveland Clinic. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 22, 2006, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Ed. Grant. Entombment in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. She was born on July 14, 1933, in West Hamlin, a daughter of the late Theodore Jefferson Triplett and Mary Tessabelle Adkins Triplett. She is a member of Steele Memorial United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Millard Filmore Maynard Jr..; one daughter, Mary Sue Satterfield of St. Albans; two sons, Kevin Craig Maynard of Jackson, NJ., David Allen Maynard of Ft. Lewis, Wash.; one brother, Theodore L. Triplett of West Hamlin; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Walter “Richie” Richardson
Walter ‘Richie” Richardson, 78, of Culloden, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, with his loving wife by his side. Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with the Rev. Tracy Mills officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Walter was born Jan. 10, 1928, in South Charleston, a son of the late John and Jessie Ellis Richardson. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and retired from Union Carbide after 40 years of service in construction. Walter leaves behind his wife, Thelma, of 24 years; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ed Holstein of South Charleston, W.Va. and Sandy and Coleman Hardin of Mesa, Az.; one son, Alan Richardson of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; four stepchildren, Mike Holley, Lynn and Bruce Wray, David and Michelle Taylor, Ed and Benita Taylor; one special granddaughter, Tiffany Wray; eleven grandchildren, Belinda, Chris, Misty, Jim, Josh, Stephanie, Justin, Chad, Christina and Anthony; nine great-grandchildren. Billy Lee Spurlock
Billy Lee Spurlock, 74, of Culloden passed away Friday, January 20, 2006, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2006, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Mount Olive Cemetery, Hurricane. Billy was born February 16,1931, in Kanawha County, a son of the late Homer and Allie Clara Runion Spurlock. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Howard “Pooch” Spurlock and Charles “Mike” Spurlock; one sister, Margie Gartin. Billy served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by loving companion Jetta Neil; one son, Billy Spurlock II; three sisters, Kathryn Fabry, Dortha Handley and Wilma Faulkner; three grandchildren, Billy Spurlock III, Joe Spurlock and Alisha Spurlock; special friend and caregiver, Earlene Anglin. Jennifer Ray
Jennifer Ray, 51, of Ona, WVa, wife of Johnnie Ray, died Saturday at home. She was a homemaker. In addition to her husband, survivors include daughters, Andrea Kendrick Jessica and James Kimball of Ona; sons, Johnny (Chico) and Christy Ray, Jonathan Kuhn Ray, of Ona; sisters, Brenda Wilfong of Ona and Juanita Foster of Milton; brother, Doug Woods of Kenova. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Henson Mortuary, burial in Maupin Cemetery, Ona. Walter J. Larson
Walter J. Larson of Charleston, South Carolina, formerly of Winfield, died January 7, 2006, at home.
He retired from AT&T as a service foreman and served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, he was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Edith Larson, two sisters and two brothers.
Surviving: wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Larson; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Tina Larson of Loveland, Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra K. and Philip Tucker of Scott Depot, Cheryl J. Larson of Charlotte, North Carolina, Cynthia Lynn and Phillip Grubb of Simpsonville, South Carolina; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Service was held Friday, January 13, 2006, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Jim McGehee officiating. Entombment was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Walter M. Oliver
Walter M. "Mack" Oliver, 80, of Hurricane died Monday, January 9, 2006, at Putnam General Hospital.
He has been retired for 20 years from C&P Telephone Company, where he had 35 years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, served in the Navy during World War II, was also an amateur photographer and enjoyed woodworking. He was a Methodist by faith and a 46 year resident of Hurricane.
Surviving: his wife of 60 years, Ruth Lee Miller Oliver; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan O. and Tim Hayslett of Hurricane, Penny L. and Bill Meek of Beckley; son and daughter-in-law, Michael H. and Bonnie Oliver of Ripley; sister, Annie Petree Oliver of Scott Depot; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, January 12, 2006, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Jim McGehee officiating.

Rosa Mae Mitchell
Rosa Mae Mitchell, 82, of Nitro died January 11, 2006, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Lewis Mitchell in 1984.
Surviving: daughter, Mary Lou Bright of Hurricane; sisters, Freda Villars of Deerfield Beach, Florida and Maxine L. Williams of Columbus, Ohio; brother, Bert Willis of Ironton, Ohio; granddaughter, Rosemary Keeling of Hurricane; great-grandsons, Zachery and Joshua Keeling.
Service was held Saturday, January 14, 2006, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Pastor Bruce Young officiating. Burial was in Sycamore Baptist Church, Cemetery, Hurricane.
