William Turner Grant
Vienna, WV
William Turner Grant, 88, of Vienna passed
away Feb. 20, 2008, at Worthington Manor
Nursing Home.
He was born at St. Marys, W.Va., a son of the
late Herbert M. and Nellie Turner Grant. Mr.
Grant was a member of the Grace Baptist Church.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Paul
(Dorothy) Allen of Satellite Beach, Fla.; and
a niece, Shelly Grant Julian of Charleston,
S.C.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert
Grant.
There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m.
today at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens with
Pastor Todd Hill officiating.
Kimes Funeral Home of Parkersburg is in charge
of arrangements.
A. Herman Conaway
Parkersburg, WV
A. Herman Conaway, 92, of Parkersburg passed
away Feb. 20, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital
in Parkersburg.
He was born Aug. 8, 1915, in Ritchie County, a
son of the late Newton Elza Conaway and
Marguerite Lee Reeves Conaway Cokeley. He was
a 1934 graduate of Ritchie County High School.
Herman was a long time member of the Church of
the Good Shepherd, Episcopal, where he served
with the church vestary. He had owned and
operated the Pine View Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center in Harrisville and the
Mound View Health Care Center in Moundsville.
He served as health care facility
administrator, was a member and past president
of the West Virginia Health Care Association,
served on the Bi-Law and Constitution
Committee of the American Health Care
Association and was a member of the West
Virginia Nursing Home Administrative Board and
was also a member of the Parkersburg Rotary
Club.
Surviving is his son, Larry N. Conaway and his
wife, Jennifer, of Parkersburg; his daughter,
Lynda Conaway Kirk and her former husband,
William E. Kirk, of Parkersburg;
grandchildren, Melanie Parrish, Michael
Conaway, David Conaway, Amanda Kirk Lynch and
her husband, Jared, Jered Kirk and
granddaughter-in-law, Linda Sue Kirk; and
great-grandchildren, Erica Parrish, Adrienna
Conaway, Alex Conaway, Lindsey Conaway,
McKaylee Ryan and Matthew Lynch.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his wife, Wilma Martin Conaway in
2002; a granddaughter, Cinda Kirk; a grandson,
Jeffery Kirk; a half-brother, Omer Morris; and
a half-sister, Elsie Conaway Ahrendt.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at
the Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopal, at
903 Charles Street, Parkersburg. The Rev. Dr.
Arthur L. Bennett III will officiate and
burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The
visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today and
from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Kimes Funeral
Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg.
Charles E. "Buck" Buckhannon
Parkersburg, WV
Charles E. “Buck” Buckhannon passed away on
Feb. 20, 2008. He was a lifelong resident of
south Parkersburg, having only recently moved
to Center Hill, Fla.
Buck was born on Dec. 19, 1918, to Frank and
Edna Guinn Buckhannon. Buck was somewhat of an
adopted son of his Uncle John and Aunt Hattie,
who lived in Wadesville. As often as would be
tolerated, he could be found at “Aunt Hat’s.”
He spent his youth as a caddy at South Hills
Golf Course and as a farm hand for Tebay’s
Dairy.
Nearly every weekend, he could be found in
the “old” downtown of Parkersburg, frequenting
movie theaters with friends. Buck enjoyed
western and cowboy movies throughout his long
life of 89 years. He served in the Armed
Forces in 1941. After an honorable discharge,
he began his long career of 36 years at Penn
Metal in Vienna. As in his younger days, Buck
could often be found “downtown” with his
family, Georgia, Jeff and Lloyd on most
weekends.
Buck was preceded in death by his first wife,
Rosie, and his second wife, Georgia V.
Buckhannon.
Family left to fondly remember him include his
sons, Jeff (Debbie), Lloyd and Harold; four
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Buck’s
church home, the Camden Temple.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Pastor Beulah Fluharty and
Pastor Bill Eakle officiating. Burial will
follow at the Wadesville Cemetery. The
visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Thursday at the funeral home.
Yvonne "Bonnie" Gorrell
Parkersburg, WV
Yvonne “Bonnie” Gorrell, 82, of Parkersburg,
passed away Feb. 17, 2008, at Camden-Clark
Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 25, 1925, at Point Pleasant,
a daughter of the late Joseph and Emma
Williamson Gaskins.
She was a graduate of Point Pleasant High
School, where she was a cheerleader. She was a
homemaker and was on the Thursday night
Bowling Leagues at Pike Street Lanes. She
enjoyed raising and working with her flowers
and had done crochet and ceramics.
Surviving is her husband of 59 years, William
H. “Bill” Gorrell; four sons, Jon Gorrell and
his wife, Joanne, Kim Gorrell and his wife,
Lisa, Todd Gorrell and his wife, Janice, and
Whit Gorrell, all of Parkersburg; one
daughter, Misty Lewis and her husband, Bob
Lewis, of Parkersburg; five grandchildren,
Abby Johnson of Great Falls, Mont., Cody
Gorrell, Anna Gorrell, Trevor Gorrell and
Sidney Lewis, all of Parkersburg; a
stepgrandson, Chad Sloan; and a great-
grandchild, Taylor Sloan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by two sisters, Alice Wright and Joan
Gaskins.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday
at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg. Pastor Mike Allen will officiate
and entombment will follow at the Court of Ten
Commandments Mausoleum of Sunset Memory
Gardens. The visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-
8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
