H. Grace Modesitt
Washington, WV
H. Grace Modesitt, 86, of Washington, W.Va.,
passed away Aug. 27, 2007, at the Willows
Nursing Center.
She was born Nov. 25, 1920, in Wirt County, a
daughter of the late Ralph and Pearl Richards
Tanner. She was a homemaker.
Surviving is her husband, Earl R. Modesitt of
Eagle Pointe; two sons, Okey M. Ankrom of
Washington and James Ankrom of Newton, N.J.;
one daughter, Mary Ellen Bean of Granbury,
Texas; five grandchildren, Phaedra Retnan,
Bessie and Shane Ankrom and Molly and Abigail
Ankrom; and one brother, Charles Tanner of
Parkersburg.
She was preceded in death by her first
husband, Okey Ankrom of the 1092nd Battalion,
casualty of the Korean War; and a brother,
Wilbur “Webb” Tanner.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Pastor Bernard “Dobby”
Thrash officiating. Entombment will follow at
The Chapel of Peace Mausoleum of Sunset Memory
Gardens. The visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-
8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

James Marshall
Parkersburg, WV
James Marshall, 98, of Parkersburg passed away
Aug. 24, 2007, at Worthington Manor Nursing
Home.
He was born Oct. 3, 1908, in Ohio. Mr.
Marshall retired from the U.S. Postal Service
as a postal clerk and had also worked as a
private contractor in the concrete business.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are six grandchildren, Timothy
Collins, Rob Collins, William Collins and
Cindy Hemmingway, all of Parkersburg, Richard
Collins in Florida and Sue Collins in
Morgantown; 12 great-grandchildren; three
great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gene
Marshall of Parkersburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith
Cooper Marshall; and two stepsons, Robert L.
and William Collins.
There will be a private family graveside
service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg.
There will be no visitation.
Kimes Funeral Home & Cremation Services of
Parkersburg is assisting the family with
arrangements.

Stephen C Lemon
Belleville, WV
Stephen C. Lemon, 65, of Belleville passed
away Aug. 15, 2007, at his home following an
extended illness.
He was born March 2, 1942, at Davisville, a
son of the late Audra A. and Comella Kellar
Lemon. Steve was a 1961 graduate of
Parkersburg High School and member of the
Edgelawn United Methodist Church. He retired
from GE Plastics with 22 years of service and
was a 15-year employee of Murray Sheet Metal.
He was a licensed aircraft pilot and enjoyed
hunting and fishing.
Surviving is his wife, Linda Straight Lemon;
one son, Stephen Michael Lemon of Parkersburg;
a daughter, Stephanie (Camden) Joy of
Parkersburg; two grandchildren, Justin Lemon
of Parkersburg and Nicole Joy of West Union;
two brothers, James Lemon of Kansas and Jerry
Lemon of Elizabeth; four sisters, Carolyn
Simmons of Parkersburg, Earlene (Eddy) Cox of
Pettyville, Shirley (Bob) Vandergrift of
Shiloh, Ohio, and Janice Anderson of Vienna;
and several nieces and nephews. He is also
survived by his mother-in-law, Mildred Smith
Straight; and brothers-in-law, Sam Straight
and Gene Straight and his wife, Ginger, all of
Belleville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by two sisters, Regina Lemley and Ruth
Dunn; and his father-in-law, French Straight.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Pastor Danny McVey
officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset
Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 2-8
p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the
local area Hospice Association.
The family would like to express their
heartfelt thanks to those who helped in any
way during the illness of Steve, with special
thanks to the doctors, nurses, pharmacy and
staff of Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital and to
the many people who sent cards and offered
prayer in his behalf.

Roy J. McCoy
Parkersburg, WV
Roy J. McCoy, 76, of Parkersburg passed away
Aug. 14, 2007, at Camden-Clark Memorial
Hospital.
He was born Feb. 1, 1931, in Parkersburg, a
son of the late Doy F. and Eva Colleen Silket
McCoy. Roy was a member of the Blennerhassett
Nazarene Church. He retired from the U.S. Navy
with 22 years of service and had worked at
Yale University as a police officer for 17
years. He was a member of the American Legion
and enjoyed fishing.
Surviving are four sons, Roy, Allen, Wayne and
Charles McCoy, all of Boston; a daughter,
Cheryl Ann Johnson of Hudson, N.H.; several
grandchildren; six brothers, David McCoy of
Georgia, Larry, Earl and Gary McCoy, all of
Parkersburg, Ray McCoy of Spencer and Doy
McCoy of Lawton, Okla.; two sisters, Elsie
Casto of Parkersburg and Louise Fields of
Wilmington, N.C.; and several nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife,
Rita Murphy McCoy; his second wife, Catherine
Landis McCoy; his third wife, Janet Louise
McCoy; and a brother, Orville McCoy.
There will be a memorial service at 2:30 p.m.
Sunday at the Blennerhassett Nazarene Church
with Pastor Bob Kniley officiating.
Kimes Funeral Home & Cremation Service is
assisting the family with the arrangements.

Edwin Barnett "Ed" Cooper
Kanawha, WV
Edwin Barnett "Ed" Cooper, 82, of Kanawha,
W.Va., passed away Aug. 9, 2007, at his
residence.
He was born May 7, 1925, in Parkersburg, a son
of the late Amos Barnett "Dick" Cooper and
Lula Blanch Stoops Cooper. Ed was a self-
employed lifelong farmer and former employee
of the FMC Corporation and had worked as a
guard at the Mineral Wells Welcome Center. He
was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the
European Theater. He was a member of the W.Va.
Cattleman’s Association and the American Angus
Association.
Surviving is one son, Curtis Dean Cooper and
his wife, Patty, of Parkersburg; a daughter,
Patricia "Patty" Dunn and Greg Parsons of
Vienna; four grandchildren, Daniel Cooper,
Matthew Cooper, Lori (Darrin) Wilson and
Lindsey (Dan) Snider; three great-
grandchildren, Mason and Aiden Snider and
Tyler Wilson; a brother, Earl R. Cooper of
Mineral Wells; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura
Helen Grimm Cooper in November 2006; and three
brothers, Clinton, Clarence and Carl Cooper.
The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday
at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Evangelist Joe Spivy
officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet
Cemetery. The visitation will be from 6-8 p.m.
Sunday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time
Monday at the funeral home.
