Anna Deane Knopp Casto
Williamstown, WV
Anna Deane Knopp Casto, 73, of Williamstown
went to her home on May 15, 2007, at St.
Joseph’s Hospital.
She was born June 3, 1933, in Liverpool, Roane
County, W.Va. She was the daughter of the late
Harold Clifford and Charlottie Staats Knopp.
She attended Valley Forge School in Roane
County until her family moved to Vienna in
1945. She also attended Neale School and
Parkersburg High School, where she graduated
in 1951.
She was an avid gardener and was a collector
of salt and pepper shakers, as well as a die
hard Yankees fan. She loved to learn and took
several different classes, including
calligraphy and tax preparation. She loved her
computer and was always emailing her friends
and family. She had a knack of winning things,
including a bicycle and a swimming pool. She
spent a large part of her life researching the
genealogy of her family and later became a
member of the Daughters of the American
Revolution.
She was a loving daughter and long time
caregiver to her father and mother. Because of
her kind heart, she took pride in helping
anyone she thought was in need. She was
everyone’s Grandma.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years,
Robert L. Casto; one son, David L. Malson and
his wife, Marlene, of Dayton, Ohio; four
daughters, Ruth Triplett of Elkins, W.Va.,
Cindy Heilman and her husband, Joseph, of
Spencer, Charletta Kaye Boggs and her husband,
Guy, of Vienna and Regina Alvarez of
Parkersburg; 13 grandchildren, Christopher
Malson and wife, Andrea, of Dayton, Ohio,
James Moore and wife, Barbara, of Parsons,
W.Va., Amber Boggs of Williamstown, Erin Moore
of Clarksburg, W.Va., Elizabeth Malson of
Raleigh, N.C., Nathan Boggs of Fairfax, Va.,
Nicholas Wintz and wife, Amy, of Rolla, Mo.,
Jeremy Wintz of Dale City, Va., Adam Alvarez
of San Antonio, Texas, Brianna Boggs and her
fiance, James Bodie, of Parkersburg, Andrew
Alvarez of Parkersburg and Wayne and Isaac
Triplett of Elkins, W.Va.; two honorary
grandsons, Wesley George of Ohio and
Christopher George of Standish, Maine; six
great-grandchildren, Ashley and Joshua Malson
of Dayton, Noah and Jessyka Moore of Parsons,
Desiree Alvarez of San Antonio, Texas, and
Akaya Bodie of Parkersburg; one brother, Lewis
Knopp of Florida; two sisters, Ursula Meyers
of Columbus, Ohio, and Wanda Buckley of
Parkersburg; many nieces, nephews and cousins;
family friend, Joan George of Vienna; and her
best friend and animal companion, Princess.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and
two brothers, Harold Knopp and Wayne Knopp.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at
the Mt. Zion Church in Roane County with the
Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating. Burial will
follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation
will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Kimes
Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg, and
one hour prior to the services Friday at the
church.

Wilma Jean Pickering
Murraysville, WV
Wilma Jean Pickering, 75, of Clem Run Road,
Murraysville, W.Va., passed away May 14, 2007,
at the Arbors of Marietta.
She was born July 15, 1931, at Toppins Grove
in Jackson County, a daughter of the late
Russell Thomas and Bertha Milhoan Lane. She
was of the Methodist faith, was a homemaker,
member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and
the VFW.
Surviving is her son, Peter Pickering and his
wife, Patty, of Cincinnati, Ohio; her
daughter, Catherine Bush and her husband,
Carl, of Kettering, Ohio; and five
grandchildren, Andrew, Caroline and Laura
Pickering and Vanessa and Alexander Bush. She
is also survived by her companion of 15 years,
Ronald G. Nohe of Murraysville.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Lloyd
Pickering; a brother, William Arthur Lane; and
a sister, Marie Richmond.
A memorial service is being planned by the
family at a later date. Kimes Funeral Home and
Cremation Services of Parkersburg is assisting
the family with arrangements.

Pearl M. Enoch Martin Flinn
Wood County, WV
Pearl M. Enoch Martin Flinn, 93, of
Worthington Manor Nursing Home, formerly of
Pleasant View Towers in Vienna, passed away
May 14, 2007, at Camden-Clark Memorial
Hospital.
She was born Aug. 2, 1913, in Vienna, a
daughter of the late O.B. and Clara Wilcox
Enoch. She retired from American Viscose with
45 years of service. She was a member of South
Parkersburg Baptist Church and the Helping
Hands Sunday School Class.
Surviving are two sisters, Armeda Moore of
Parkersburg and Irene Keller of Belpre; and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first
husband, W.W. "Abe" Martin; her second
husband, Jay A. Flinn; two infant sons; one
infant daughter; brothers, Worthy Enoch, Troy
Enoch, Preston Enoch, Roy Enoch and Wilbur
Enoch; and a sister, Mary McFarland.
It was Pearl’s request that there be no
funeral service, no graveside service and no
visitation or viewing. She will be buried
beside Jay at Evergreen South Cemetery. Kimes
Funeral Home, Parkersburg, is in charge of
arrangements.

Ora Mae Starcher
Parkersburg, WV
Ora Mae (Nan) Starcher, 82, of Parkersburg
passed away May 5, 2007, at Camden-Clark
Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was born Dec. 2, 1924, at Madam’s Creek,
W.Va., a daughter of the late Wayne and Maime
Epperly Ballangee. She was a graduate of
Rupert High School and attended Mountain State
Business College.
Mrs. Starcher had been employed with
Parkersburg Wholesale Grocery and the
Parkersburg Water Department. She was a
longtime member of North Parkersburg Baptist
Church, where she served with the Leota
Campbell Circle and the Wedding Circle. For 20
years, she was superintendent of the 2-3 year
old Sunday school classes and was in the Come
Double Sunday School Class. She later became a
charter member of the New Hope Baptist Church.
She was a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital
for 30 years and was a member of TOPS for many
years.
She was a homemaker and loving mother of
children, Ricky Dean Starcher and wife, Ula,
of Washington, W.Va., Harley Wayne (Hank)
Starcher and wife, Linda, of Parkersburg,
Sandra Kay Sims and husband, Herbie, of
Belmont, Sharon Sue (Susie) Starcher of
Parkersburg and Lois Jean Smith of Lansing,
Ill.; grandchildren, James Robert Smith of
Lansing, Ronald Dean Smith and wife, Sandy, of
Dyer, Ind, Jason Brett Smith and wife, Jenny,
of Dyer, Nickoletta Lynn (Nicki) Starcher of
Parkersburg, Jessica Whitney Starcher of
Washington, W.Va., Matthew Dean Starcher of
Washington, W.Va., Seth Lee Sims of Belmont,
and Tyler Glen Sims of Belmont; great-
grandchildren, Nicholas Dean, Lauren Michelle,
Madelyn Emily and Morgan Elizabeth Smith, all
of Dyer; a brother, Emory Ballangee of Rupert,
W.Va.; sisters, Dorothy Killen of
Blountsville, Ala., Mary Erdely of Rupert,
W.Va., and Glenda Killen of Rupert; and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
former Parkersburg Police Chief Jess W.
Starcher on Feb. 12, 1991; and a sister, Marie
Ellison.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Pastor David Easter
officiating. Burial will follow at Parkersburg
Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2-4
and 6-8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until
service time at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
