Lusta Irene Ross
Lusta Irene Ross, 90, of Salt Rock, WVa., left this earthly home January 5, 2006, to be with her heavenly Father. Funeral services were conducted at 1 pm. Saturday, January 7, 2006, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Robert Hatfield. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. She was born November 28, 1915 in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Rev. Clark and Dora Cremeans. She was a member of Friendly United Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband John Andrew "Lee" Ross and one son, Larry Glen Ross Sr. She is survived by one daughter, Pam Adkins of Salt Rock, two so's and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Helen Ross of Prichard, W.Va., the Rev. Danny and Peggy Ross, of Salt Rock; sisters Ova Napier and Janice Jobe all of Salt Rock; 11 loving grandchildren and 16 precious great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank our friend and caregiver, Mrs. Janice Crum for the gentle and loving care given our mom. A very special thanks to Hospice for always being there, no matter what was needed, regardless of whether it was day or night. We look to God for strength in this great loss of our mom and mommaw. Please remember our family in your prayers. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

O. Maxine Burden
O. Maxine Burden, 81, of Milton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington. Graveside services were held Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at Milton Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Burnsworth officiating. She was born April 25, 1924, in Cabell County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Henry Franklin and Cuma Ann Smith Harshbarger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester B. Burden and ten sisters. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolyn and Frankie McCallister of Hurricane, Charolett Estes of Lenoir, N.C. and Deborah and Michael Ginn of Hurricane; five sons and three daughters-in-law, William and Jean Burden of Hurricane, Howard Burden of Orlando, Fla., David and Kathy Burden of Milton, Timothy Burden of Milton and Mark and Brenda Burden of Apple Grove, W.Va.; two sisters, Irene Legg of Akron, Ohio, and Emmaline Webster of Tampa, Fla.; one special nephew, Gary Harshbarger of Milton; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Norris Reed Clark
Norris Reed Clark, 81, of Culloden, W.Va., went to be with his Lord Jan. 7, 2006, at the VA Medical Center, Huntington. Born Feb. 11, 1924, in Hurricane, W.Va., he was a son of the late Leonard and Maude Garrett Clark. He was also preceded in death by his son, Gregory; his brothers, Kermit, Charles, his twin, Morris; his sisters, Helen, Iva Stowasser and Mary Pansy Sowards. He was retired from John Amos Power Plant and was a former employee of Union Carbide and Avtex Fibers. He was a devoted member of Teays Valley Christian Church and served his country during World War II with the United States Navy on the USS Blackhawk. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Betty Jean Clark; his daughter, Anita Dawn Clark; his sister, Ina Morrison of Hurricane; his brothers, Richard Clark and his wife, Betty, of Hurricane, Clifford Clark and his wife, Alice, of Culloden; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, WV, with Pastor Jeff Maynard officiating. Burial in Culloden Cemetery.

Reba Jean Coyner
Reba Jean Coyner, 54, of Milton, wife of Ricky E. Coyner, died Thursday, January 5, 2006 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Va. She had worked at Union Carbide. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 8, 2006 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane; burial in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Sherry Lyn Glover
Sherry Lyn Glover, 36, of Ona, went home to be with the Lord Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, after a short illness. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at Cox's Landing United Methodist Church, of which she was a member, by Pastor Bobby Holcome and Pastor Rick Brown. Burial in Herrenkohl Cemetery. She was born May 17, 1969, in Kent County, Mich., a daughter of Paul and Lorraine Carter Glover of Ona. She was an employee of Green Acres Regional Center and Catherine's. In addition to her parents, she is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Linda Glover of Ona, Anthony and Susanne Glover of Mallory, W.Va.; her maternal grandmother, Edna "Nanny" Short of Huntington; a special family friend, Annagene Curry; her aunts and uncles, Carol Mullins, Mary and Terry Toth, Donna Levalley, Darlene and Frank Tinervia, Henry and Donna Glover, Gary Glover, Mona and Jeff Bledsoe, Marsha and Jim Blake, and 1st Sergeant Glenn and Candy Freeman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Amin and the nurses on the 6th Floor Oncology at St. Mary's Medical Center for all their love, care and support.

Adam Chet McCallister
Adam Chet McCallister 22, of Ona, passed away suddenly, Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, in Southern Hills Hospital, Nashville, Tenn. He was born Aug. 1, 1983, in Huntington, a son of Jerri Dial McCallister of Nashville and Bill McCallister of Ona. He was a graduate of Cabell Midland High School. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Dial, and a cousin, Casey Chesne. Additional survivors include his wife, Jessica Chastain McCallister, whom he married Dec. 20, 2005. Also surviving is a son, Hunter Ian, and a daughter, Madison Faith, and an unborn child; his stepmother, Jennifer Trent McCallister of Ona; a sister, Jennifer Hope McCallister of Smyrna, Tenn.; a brother, Joshua McCallister of Barboursville; stepbrother, Joshua Michael Chastain of Ona; maternal grandparents, Gene and Rosemary Dial Bailey of Milton; paternal grandparents, Bob and Hester McCallister of Barboursville; and lots of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Chapman's Mortuarywas in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Ann McDonie Oxley
Mrs. Patricia Ann McDonie Oxley, 70, of Milton, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, January 7, 2006, at her home. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Mark Finley officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Pat was born February 14, 1935, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Thomas M. (Sr.) and Blanche Adkins McDonie. She was preceded in death by her husband Shelby G. Oxley; and one brother Clayton Ford McDonie. Pat was a former employee of George's Cleaners, Hurricane. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Sue Oxley of Milton and Rodney and Denise Oxley of Jacksonville, FL.; four grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Brian (and Leslie) Oxley of St. Albans, WV, Susan (and Dave) Oxley Huddle of Milton; Jordan Oxley of Milton and Katie Oxley of Jacksonsville , FL.; two great-grandchildren whom she adored, Jennifer Oxley of St. Albans and Peyton Huddle of Milton. Pat leaves behind two sisters, Myrtle Davis of Hurricane and Eloise McDonie of Milton, whom she shared a home; four brothers, Thomas M. Jr. (and Ginny) McDonie and Gene McDonie, both of Culloden, Royce (and Patty) McDonie, Jim (and Sue Ann) McDonie, both of Milton; many nieces, nephews and friends including two special friends, Trudy Black and Glen Kidd. Pat also leaves behind her faithful Daschund "Rusty". The family would like to thank the nurses from Hospice of Huntington for their compassion, kindness and care. Donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington.

William Curtis Campbell IV
William Curtis Campbell IV, 41 of Kenova, W.Va., went to be the Lord Friday, December 23, 2005, after a long illness. He was born April 10, 1964, in Cabell County, West Virginia, a son of Dianne Campbell Legg and Bob Legg of Huntington. He is survived by his wife, Carol Jane Malcolm-Campbell; two sisters, Denise Campbell of Beckley, W.Va., and Annie Elliott of Proctorville, Ohio; maternal grandmother, Mary Woodall of Barboursville, W.Va.; three nephews, Dustin Campbell, Jacob and Josh Elliott; one niece, Carrisa Campbell; special childhood friend, Stewart; and his best friend Buddy. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Harlow Warren Denny
Harlow Warren Denny, 99, of Rainelle, W.Va., formerly of Huntington, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 22, 2005. He was born Feb. 10, 1916, in Cabell County, West Virginia, a son of the late Homer M. Denny and Lora M. Foster Denny. He retired from West Virginia Electric Supply in 1981. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet. He was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Mae Runyan Denny and his brother, Donald T. Denny. Survivors include one son, Allen R. Denny and his wife Nancy of Rainelle; three grandchildren, Christopher Denny, Timothy Denny and Sarah E. Denny Allen; five great-grandchildren, Duncan Denny, Logan Denny, Matthew Denny, Caleb Allen and Ginger Allen. Services were conducted Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at Woodmere Memorial Gardens in the Abbey Remembrance Chapel in Huntington conducted by Pastor James Jobe of Hebron Baptist Church. Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle was in charge of arrangements. military graveside rites were conducted by East Huntington VFW Post #9738.

Junior Clay Chapman
Junior Clay Chapman, 82, of Milton, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, at Putnam General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted at Dec. 27, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Forest Memorial Park. He was born March 1, 1923, a son of the late Allie Wooten and Cassie Horn Chapman. He was preceded in death by sisters, Ruby, Pearl, Opal, Pansy, and Ruth; one brother, Vernon; and one son, Ira Delmas Chapman. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Jim Clagg of Milton; two sons and daughters-in-law, James A. Chapman of Milton, Junior Lee and Brenda Chapman of Ona, and Connie Chapman of Milton; one brother, T.A. Chapman of Ona; grandchildren, Scottie, Leann, Shane, Sherle, Whitney, Landy, Brandi, and Brooke; great-grandchildren; Madison, Haven, Cody, Michael and Sarah.

Ruth Ruley Samuels
Ruth Ruley Samuels, a lifelong resident of Barboursville, W.Va., died Wednesday, December 21, 2005, after a seven-year illness. She was born February 23, 1918, in Barboursville, the youngest of 10 children of Robert Thomas Ruley and Hattie Susan Hatfield Ruley. She was the widow of George W. “Pud” Samuels Jr., whom she married August 19, 1940. A graduate of Barboursville High School, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Barboursville. Survivors include a son, William L. Samuels of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.; a daughter, Susan Peyton, of Huntington; two grandsons, Will Samuels of Irvine, Calif., and Dave Peyton Jr. of Reston, Va.; a granddaughter, Lisa Christine Jordan of Derby, Kan.; two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Christopher Jordan of Derby, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were conducted Saturday, December 24, 2005 at Ridgelawn Memorial Park by the Rev. Judy Fisher. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Trudy Gale Adkins Protzman
Trudy Gale Adkins Protzman, passed away Dec. 23, 2005, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Tim Jones. Burial in Watson Cemetery. She was born August 21, 1954, in Huntington, a daughter of Delmer and Lereen “Bug” Albright Adkins of Barboursville. She was a Cabell Huntington Hospital Employee Credit Union manager. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Golden and Kate Albright and her paternal grandparents, Ernest and Erma Adkins. Also surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Ashley Protzman of Summerville, S.C., where he serves in the United States Navy as a Chief Nuclear Engineer, one sister and brother-in-law, Pennie and George Smith; one brother and sister-in-law, Kim and Janette Adkins, all of Huntington; several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice of Huntington, Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709. The family would like to thank the doctors and caregivers at Cabell Huntington Hospital for her special care.

Mildred Sovine
Mildred Sovine, 73, of Culloden went home to be with her Lord, Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005 at Putnam General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with the Rev. Sonny Sovine officiating. Burial in Culloden Cemetery. Mildred was born Jan. 4, 1932, a daughter of the late Clarence and Leelia Fought Edwards. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Emzie “Cuz” Sovine; two brothers, Boyd Clay Edwards and Robert Odell Edwards; two sisters, Kinas Humphries and Inez Edwards. Mildred is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Vernon Bird of Culloden; three sons and three daughter-in-laws, Rick and Rawnie Shay Sovine of Culloden, Gary and Teresa Sovine of Cleveland, Ga. and Bruce and Debbie Sovine of Clover, S.C.; three sisters, Bonnie Perry and husband Jack, Maxine Pauley and Phala Sigmon and husband Glenn; two brothers, Lester Edwards and wife Margaret and Clinton Edwards; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Adam Gustin Porter
Adam Gustin Porter, 22, of Barboursville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, after a long illness and courageous battle with Cystic Fibrosis. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Charles Williams, the Rev. Lonnie Wilson and the Rev. Brad Toney. Burial in Bowen Cemetery. Adam was born Feb. 17, 1983, in Huntington, a son of Frances Browning Porter and the late Alvin Glen Porter. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Glenna Marie Porter. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Frances and James Hall; sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Kevin Bailey; brother and sister-in-law, Jarrette and Kim Porter; two stepbrothers, Alan and Chad Hall; niece, Chelsea Bailey; two nephews, Nathan Bailey and Bryan Walters, and a host of family and friends. The family would like to especially thank their many friends and family who has supported Adam during his extended illness.

Betty C. Wright Martin
Betty C. Wright Martin, 76, of Barboursville, formerly of Beckley, W.Va., passed away December 25, 2005, at the home of her daughter. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at Melton Mortuary, Beckley. Burial in Blue Ridge Cemetery. She was born March 17, 1929, in Grandview, W.Va., a daughter of the late James Hazzard and Mamie Goddard Wright. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Keith Martin. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Bob McKinney of Barboursville; two sons and daughter-in-law, David Keith Martin of Nashville, Tenn., and his companion, Judi Sachs, and John Ray and Evelyn Martin of Hurricane, W.Va.; grandchildren, Debra K. Moon and her husband Mike, Brian C. McKinney, Alison Simpson and her husband Mark, Charles Martin and Derek Orren; two great grandchildren.
