David Lee Cutlip Sr., 76, of New Bern, N.C.,
passed away Sept. 28, 2008, at the Craven
Regional Medical Center at New Bern.
He was born in Parkersburg on April 8, 1932,
son of the late Claude Hooker Cutlip and Donna
Ross Cutlip.
Mr. Cutlip was employed with Federal Security
of the U.S. Department of Defense.
Surviving is his wife, Betty Cox Cutlip.
There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m.
Monday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, is assisting the family with
local arrangements. There will be no
visitation at the funeral home.
Mitchell Jene Belt
Belpre, Oh
Mitchell Jene Belt, 67, of Belpre passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at the University of
Pittsburgh Medical Center-Montefiore Hospital.
He was born Jan. 5, 1941, in Parkersburg, a
son of the late Reta Stoops Belt and Oliver
Mitchell Belt. Jene graduated from Parkersburg
High School with the class of 1958 and retired
from Belt Transfer.
His wife, Janien Colvin-Belt, whom he married
Oct. 15, 1998, survives him. In addition to
his wife, he is survived by his sister, Judith
Huddleston; nephew, Blair Huddleston, both of
Jasper, Ala.; a niece, Meredith Huddleston-
Gillet and husband, Michael; great-nephews,
Jack and Cole, all of Beverly Hills, Calif.;
brother and sister-in-law, Harlen and Marsha
Colvin; niece, Alisha Colvin Carmichael and
husband, Ben; and great-nephew, Logan, all of
Belpre.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by an infant sister, Mary Charlene Belt.
The funeral service for Jene will be 11 a.m.
Thursday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Pastor Bernard Thrash
officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen
South Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4-
8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Violet Genevieve Johnson
Winding Road, Waverly, WV
Violet Genevieve Johnson, 77, of the Winding
Road area, Waverly, W.Va., passed away Sept.
20, 2008, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 31, 1930, in Wood County, a
daughter of the late Henry Delbert and Ruth
Walters Dye. Violet was of the Protestant
Faith and at one time attended the Stephenson
Memorial United Methodist Church and was a
homemaker.
Surviving is her husband, Arthur K. "Oink"
Johnson; five daughters, Judy Ann Roush
(Norman) of Waverly, Jennifer Sue Burdette
(Robert) of Belleville, Janice Minear (William
Allen) of Parkersburg, Mary Jane Milhoan of
McArthur, Ohio, and Linda June McCumbers
(Jimmy) of Waverly; 11 grandchildren, several
great- and great-great-grandchildren; and one
brother, John Wesley Dye (Mary) of Boaz.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her sister, Phyliss Johnson.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg. Pastor Bud Corbin will officiate
and burial will follow at the Shiloh Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the
funeral home.
Dorothy M. Smith, 91, of Parkersburg passed
away peacefully Jan. 22, 2009, at Camden-Clark
Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 8, 1917, at Pullman, W.Va.,
the daughter of the late John Walter and
Jettie Cross McDougle. She was educated in
Ritchie County Schools and graduated from
Pullman High School in 1935.
Dorothy was a charter member of Emmanuel
Baptist Church, where she was a faithful
member. She was also active in the Emmanuel
Baptist Women, the Miriam Fountain Circle, the
Excelsior Sunday School Class and Tuesday
Fellowship. She had recently been an officer
of the Belpre Civitan Club. She greeted many
fellow walkers with her sweet smile on her
daily walks at the city park. She spent most
of her adult life working with her husband in
his business, Redbird Refrigeration in
Parkersburg.
Dorothy was the foundation of the family,
always ready with advice and loving support
for her children, grandchildren and great-
grandchildren who loved and adored her.
Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law, Jak
L. and Betty Smith of Parkersburg; three
granddaughters, Juli Bailey of Parkersburg,
Mindi Seaman of Boulder, Colo., and Robin
Scott and her husband, Tom, of Mineral Wells;
two great-grandchildren, Kate Bailey and
Garrett Bailey, both of Parkersburg; and
nieces and nephews, John McDougle and his
wife, Judy, of Kettering, Ohio, Carol Wharton
of Ashland, Va., and Keith Wharton and his
wife, Ruth, of Parkersburg.
In addition to her parents and stepfather,
Alban Edmundson, she was preceded in death by
her husband, Louden O. Smith; three brothers,
Arden McDougle, Rufus McDougle and his wife,
Edna, and Darrell McDougle and his wife, Snow;
and a granddaughter, Andrea Marie Smith.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with the Rev. Kurt Busiek and the
Rev. David Carpenter officiating. Burial will
follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The visitation
will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral
home.
Geraldine M. Belt Swadley
Parkersburg, WV
Geraldine M. Belt Swadley, 93, of Parkersburg,
passed away Jan. 18, 2009, at Harmar Place in
Marietta.
She was born March 13, 1915, at Burning
Springs, W.Va., the daughter of the late M.J.
and Grace M. Martin Belt. Geraldine was a
local landlord in the Parkersburg area for
many years and was a hairdresser. She had been
a member of the Business and Professional
Women's Association and enjoyed gardening,
decorating and sewing.
Surviving are four grandchildren, Shannah Lou
Hensler of Marietta, Michael Jacob Hensler
(Judie) of Guysville, Ohio, Jenifer Lee Betts
of Whipple, Ohio, and Markeus Leland Hensler
(Clair) of Windsor, Colo.; four great-
grandchildren, Amanda Beckett, Jason Dallas
Hensler Baldwin, Olivia Hensler and Jenell
Betts; and a niece, Judy Huddleston in Alabama.
In additiion to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband, Guy L. Swadley; her
daughter, Barbara Hensler; her brother,
Mitchell Belt; and her nephew, Gene Belt.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday
at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg. Pastor Jay Hubbard will officiate
and burial will follow at Evergreen South
Cemetery in south Parkersburg. The visitation
will be from 9 a.m. until service time
Saturday at the funeral home.
