Melvin Donald "Brownie" and "Opossum" Brown
Washington Heights, WV

Melvin Donald "Brownie" and "Opossum" Brown,
72, of Washington Heights, Parkersburg, passed
away Feb. 7, 2009, in the emergency department
of St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born Sept. 11, 1936, in Lubeck, a son
of Viola Brown and Wesley Buchanan.

Melvin retired from Ames Co. with 31 years of
service and was a member of the Coon Hunters
Association.

Surviving is his son, Darrell Brown of Evans,
W.Va.; one brother, Paul E. Brown of Akron,
Ohio; two stepsons, Michael C. Emerson in
North Carolina and Kenneth L. Emerson in
Texas; and stepdaughter, Michelle Randolph in
Kentucky. Also surviving are several nieces
and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Alvie
Brown; and a sister, Nelma Brown.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday
at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street,
Parkersburg, with Ken Emerson speaking. Burial
will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near
Lost Pavement Road. The visitation will be
from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ada Louise Mannozzi, 87, of Fowlerville,
Mich., formerly of Parkersburg, went home to
be with her Lord on March 25, 2009. She passed
away at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Michigan.

She was the daughter of the late William
Andrew Wandless and Freda Bell Wandless. Ada
was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, a
homemaker and a member of the Sunrise Church
of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Mannozzi;
one son, David Lee Mercer (Maria) of
California; one daughter, Donna Jean Cheney
(Pete) of Michigan; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-
grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and
eight nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first
husband, Harry C. Mercer; and a second
husband, Larry Caponigro. five brothers,
William Andrew Wandless, William Andrew
Wandless Jr., Glen Harold Wandless, Herman
Eugene Wandless and William S. "Billy"
Wandless; five sisters, Gladys Virginia
Wandless, Carrie "Polly" McFee, Freda
Belle "Bea" Poyett, Betty Irene Beckett and
Virgie Eleanor Callihan; and one daughter,
Barbara Ann Borotkanic.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at
Kimes Funeral Home with Evangelist Steve Poyet
officiating. A burial of ashes will be held at
a later date at the Flatridge Cemetery,
Cambridge, Ohio.

Marvin A McCoy
Parkersburg, WV

Marvin A. McCoy, 82, of Parkersburg passed
away Saturday, March 21, 2009, at the Cedar
Grove Personal Care Center.

He was born Aug. 14, 1926, in Wirt County, the
son of the late Hurshel A. and Bertha J.
(Lockhart) McCoy.

Marvin retired from B&O/Chessie Systems in
1987 with 39 years of service.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Betty L.
Sams (McDonald) McCoy; two daughters, Patricia
A. Gunn and her husband, Kenneth, of
Washington, W.Va., and Pamela S. Flittner and
her husband, James, of Pinehurst, N.C.; four
grandchildren, Julia L. Wright and her
husband, Richard, of Grand Rapids, Mich.,
Jason E. Gunn and his wife, Robin, of
Birmingham, Ala., and Kala L. Flittner and
Jake A. Flittner, both of Pinehurst, N.C.;
four great-grandchildren, Chloe and Ethan
Wright of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Lindsay and
Jill Gunn of Birmingham, Ala.; and a special
niece, Barbara Comer of Mineral Wells.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by an infant son; and a younger brother,
Ira A. McCoy.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with the Rev. Dwane Porter
officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset
Memory Gardens. The visitation will be from 2-
4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Perry Hickman Jr.
Parkersburg, WV

Perry Hickman Jr., 71, of Parkersburg passed
away Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at his home.

He was born Sept. 21, 1937, a son of the late
Perry Hickman Sr. and Ethel Wright Hickman. He
retired from Calvary Community Church in
Belpre and Parkersburg Catholic School.

Surviving are two sisters, Reva Farrell of
Ripley and Marie (Blonda) Casto of Ripley;
several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and
great-nephews; and his longtime girlfriend,
Mary Huffman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by brothers, Richard (Pete) Hickman and
Jonnie Hickman.

There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m.
Thursday at the Pine Hill Cemetery near
Ripley. Pastor Doug Guinn will be speaking and
burial will follow. The family will receive
relatives and friends beginning at noon
Thursday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg.

CHARLES MILLER
PARKERSBURG, WV

Charles Miller, 61, of Parkersburg, went home
to be with the Lord on March 12, 2009.

He is survived by his partner, Francis Null;
sister, Susie Vires and her husband (Jerry) of
Louisville, Ky.; daughter, Rebecca Patterson;
a son, Charles "Chuckie" Miller of Zanesville,
Ohio; several grandchildren; two half-
brothers, Eddie Miller and Timothy Miller of
Florida; several nieces and nephews; and
special cousins, Connie Backus and Laura Smith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Garnet
Miller; mother, Myrtle Miller Gault; a
brother, Garnie Ray Miller; a sister, Martha
Lemley; and a half-brother, Garald Miller.

A memorial service will be held at a later
date. Arrangements are being handled by Kimes
Funeral Home and Cremation Services of
Parkersburg.

Virginia Kay Riley Register
davisboro, GA

Virginia Kay Riley Register, 56, of Davisboro,
Ga., died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at her
residence.

Mrs. Register was born in Wood County, W.Va.,
the daughter of the late Gilbert Riley and the
late Hazel Williams Presley. She was a
homemaker and a Baptist. Virginia was a U.S.
Army veteran.

Surviving are her husband, Jack A. Register
Sr. of Davisboro; sons, James Thomas Register
of Parkersburg and Jack A. Register II of
Greensboro, N.C.; daughters, Wendy Register
and Mindy Register Pritt, both of Spokane,
Wash.; four grandchildren; sisters, Frances
Riley of Parkersburg, Susan Lipscomb of
Cutler, Ohio, and Barbara Dignus of Lake,
W.Va.; her brother, John Riley of Parkersburg;
and her mother-in-law, Frances Register of
Davisboro.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m.
today at the May and Smith Funeral Home, 1119
Riddleville Road, Sandersville, Ga.

Graveside services and burial will be 2 p.m.
Monday at the Davisboro City Cemetery with the
Rev. Chad Watkins officiating.

There will be a memorial gathering of friends
and relatives from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg.
