Vera Belle Anthony, 91, of Parkersburg passed
away Thursday morning, Aug. 27, 2009, at
Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 19, 1918, a daughter of the
late David Johnson and Sylvia Lattimer Brown.

Vera was of the Baptist faith and had been
employed with Scott's Landscaping and Dudley's
Florist and Larkmead Florist as a designer.
She was also an avid bingo player, an avid
gardener, enjoyed fishing and loved the
Atlanta Braves.

Surviving are two sons, David L. Anthony
(Pheobe) of Parkersburg and Tim Anthony (Tonda
Cottrill) of Parkersburg; five daughters,
Janet Chapman of Etowah, Tenn., Judy Hicks
(Harold) of Monticello, Ky., Sylvia Huddleston
(Ted) of Benson, Ariz., Diane Behringer of
Ozark, Ala., and Sharon of Las Vegas, Nev.;
several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren; one brother,
James "Sonny" Jones (Dee) of Mineral Wells; a
sister, Stella Thompson of Parkersburg; and
several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband, Luther Anthony in
1988; and a brother, Holly Jones.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with the Rev. Scott Stewart
officiating. Burial will follow at the
Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown. The
visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Sunday at the funeral home.

Myrtle Helen Foraker Proske
Austin, TX

Myrtle Helen Foraker Proske, 82, went home to
be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Aug.
19, 2009, in Austin, Texas.

She was born Feb. 1, 1926, in Giddings, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents,
Marie and Herman Kipp; her first husband,
Charles Foraker; her second husband, Eberhard
Proske; son-in-law, Gene Glass; sister, Alice
Wood; brother, Richard Kipp; and twin
granddaughters, Christina and Cassandra Basham.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlene
Foraker Basham of Evansville, Ind.; son-in-
law, Ron Basham; grandsons, Nick (and his
wife, Rebekah), Chris and Alex Basham and
daughter, Sarah Glass of Austin, Texas;
grandson, Matthew Glass; granddaughters,
Rachel and Laura Glass; sisters, Pearlie
Childress and Gracie Underwood; brothers,
Ludwig and Roy Kipp; many nieces and nephews;
and dear friends, including Geneva Proske, Art
and Tina Boutin and Janice Faries.

Mrs. Proske was a "High Point Girl" of her
12th grade class and served as the editor of
the school paper, The Traveler. She was proud
of her daughter, Charlene, and grandson,
Chris, who later served as editors of their
high school papers.

During World War II, Mrs. Proske worked for
the Red Cross at Camp Swift, Texas, and later
served as secretary to the captain in the
message center, working with coding messages
regarding troop movement. Mrs. Proske also
worked for the Texas Legislative Service, The
Parkersburg News and Sentinel, in the
insurance industry, and for the Bureau of
Public Debt. She retired from Borg-Warner
Chemicals in Parkersburg prior to moving to
Austin. In Austin, Mrs. Proske was a
contributor and volunteer at the Old Bakery.
During her time in Parkersburg, she served as
PTA president for several years and was
honored by the state organization for her
service. She also served as a 4-H, Girl
Scout, Junior Garden Club and Senior Garden
Club Leader.

Mrs. Proske was the owner of "Update and
Nostalgia, " a craft shop in Parkersburg. She
was an avid crafter throughout her life,
winning many awards for her floral
arrangements and crafts. She was called on
frequently by friends and acquaintances to
create floral arrangements for their homes,
weddings, showers and other special events.

She was active in her church, serving in
leadership roles with womens groups, as a
Sunday School and VBS teacher, and many other
service roles. Mrs. "Foraker" "Proske" and her
husband founded Lighthouse Assembly of God
with several other couples in the living room
of their home. Mrs. Proske and her family
opened their home to many prayer and Bible
study groups, served as youth sponsors for
many years and hosted many short term exchange
students. Mrs. Proske was a faithful member
and servant at Christian Center in Austin
where she was honored at "Mother of the Year"
in both 2001 and 2005 and attended Trinity
Baptist Church later in life. Mrs. Proske was
a believer and follower of Jesus Christ,
devoting her life from an early age to His
service through her daily witness, prayer,
especially for the safe return of her
grandson, Matthew, who served overseas in the
Marine Corps, Bible study and service to
others. Mrs. Proske's favorite saying and the
way she lived her life, "I will do the best I
can, with what I have today as unto the Lord".

There will be a funeral service today in
Texas. Locally, there will be a graveside
service at 11 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memory
Gardens in Parkersburg. The Rev. Norman Butler
will officiate.

There will be viewing from 10-10:45 a.m.
Monday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, before proceeding to the cemetery.

Edwin Eugene Miller
Parkersburg, WV

Edwin Eugene "Ed" "Gene" Miller, 81, of
Parkersburg, passed away Thursday, Aug. 13,
2009, at the Willows Nursing Center.

He was born Aug. 5, 1928, in Parkersburg, a
son of the late Russell Odell and Beatrice
Jackson Miller.

Edwin was a member of the First Baptist
Church, where he was a member of the Kelly
Class and had taught Sunday School Class. He
retired from Diamond Bathhurst Glass Company
with 43 years of service, had worked for many
years with Kimes Funeral Home and Ogdin-Kimes
Funeral Home as an attendant, had also worked
with Trans Distribution on Rosemar Road and
was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan.

Surviving is his wife, Peggy A. Caplinger
Wright Miller; two sons, the Rev. Larry Edwin
Miller and his wife, Bonnie, of Parkersburg
and Steven Carroll Miller and his wife, Karen,
of Warsaw, Ind.; one daughter, Joyce Ann
Patterson and her husband, Dan, of
Parkersburg; his stepson, James Wright of
Mineral Wells; his former wife, Joyce Wright
of Williamstown; eight grandchildren, Holly
Patterson, Stewart Patterson, Jimmy Wright,
Jessica Wright, Joel Wright, Dawn Gray, Kerry
Lemon and Jessica Miller; a great-
granddaughter, Alyssa Daugherty; two brothers,
Homer Miller of Parkersburg and Clyde Miller
(Sue) of Quinton, Va.; two sisters, Catherine
Shawver of Williamstown and Eleanor Mays of
Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his first wife, Phyllis Pyles Miller
in 1978; two brothers, William and Curtis
Miller; and two sisters, Genevieve Blankenship
and Bonita Rhoades.

The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at
the First Baptist Church on Market Street. His
son, the Rev. Larry Miller and Pastor Richard
McClure will officiate and burial will follow
at Evergreen North Cemetery. The visitation
will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street,
Parkersburg, and he will lie in state from 2-3
p.m. Sunday at the church.

Alberta Kinney Baldwin
Washington, WV

Alberta Kinney Baldwin, 83, of Beeman Road,
Washington, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, Aug.
4, 2009, at her daughter's home.

She was born at Belleville, a daughter of the
late Andy Ross Kinney and Lula Jane Smith
Kinney.

Alberta was a member of the Lubeck Church of
Christ, former member of Hopewell Church of
Christ and was a homemaker.

Surviving are two sons, Lewis L. Baldwin Jr.
(Pamela S.) of Parkersburg and William E.
Baldwin (Phyllis J.) of Belleville; one
daughter, JoAnn Baker (Robert) of Washington;
six grandchildren, Joyce Schuler, Sheryl
Fulmer, Michael Baldwin, Joshua Baldwin,
Matthew Baldwin and Kathy Deter; 20 great-
grandchildren, Jennifer Schuler, Ashley
Schuler, Tyler Ball, Jonathan Watson, Tayla
Watson, Miranda Watson, Austin Watson, Alisa
Deter, Cameron Deter, Sierra Miller, Elizabeth
Baldwin, Sarah Baldwin, Alexis Deter, Brianna
Deter, Shane Fulmer, Tyler Fulmer, Robbie
Fulmer, Michael Fulmer, Mack Baldwin and
Morgan Baldwin; one great-great-grandchild,
Caitlyn Headley; one sister, Geraldine Emrick
of Belleville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband of 34 years, Lewis
Lonzo Baldwin Sr. in 1979.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street,
Parkersburg. Evangelist Steve Fuchs will
officiate and burial will follow at the
Hopewell Cemetery. The visitation will be from
2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
