Mabel Marie Cook Pinkerton, 86, of Ona, W.Va., passed away Monday, February 13, 2006. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, February 16, 2006, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Dr. Gary Patton. Entombment in Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Garden Mausoleum. She was born December 29, 1919, in Mill Creek W.Va., a daughter of the late James Kemper Cook and Elizabeth B. Lester Cook. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Pinkerton. She is survived by two daughters, Pat Pinkerton of Daphne, Ala., and Edwa Cremeans and husband Ronald of Ona, W.Va.; two sons, Roy Pinkerton and his wife Maxx of Apex, N.C, and Steve Pinkerton and his wife Pam of Huntington; six grandchildren, Daniel Pinkerton, Rebecca Pinkerton, Whitney Pinkerton, Justin Cremeans, Stephen Pinkerton and Natalie Pinkerton; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Honeycutt, Bryce Trull, Jacob Trull, Madison Pinkerton and Hannah Cremeans; and a “special sister,” Elizabeth Ruggles. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington, Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709.

Melvin W. Bates
Melvin W. Bates, 82, of Huntington, went to be with the Lord February 12, 2006. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Minister Robert Tucker and Minister Ronnie Wright. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. He was born November 26, 1923, in Barboursville, a son of the late Andy and Ethel Dennison Bates. He was a retired employee of Houdaille Industries. Melvin was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Minerva Lodge #13 AF&AM, Barboursville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Birdie Bryan Bates; one son, Gary Melvin Bates; three brothers, Hurchell, Andrew “Bud” and Harlis Bates; and one sister, Wilma Holley. He is survived by his daughter, Melba Curry of Huntington; his granddaughter, Melanie Curry Gue and her husband Eddie, of Barboursville; five sisters, Iva Mae Shaffer, Esther Perry and her husband Keith, Garnet Blake, Carolyn Murphy and her husband Larry, and Sue Hensley and her husband Bruce; two brothers, Ronnie Bates and his wife Shirley, and Cecil Bates and an “adoptive” little girl, Brittany Paige Eubanks.

Betty Lou Estep
Betty Lou Estep, 77, of Barboursville passed away on February 11, 2006. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville by Pastor Michael Chapman. Burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum, Huntington. She was born July 27, 1928, in Huntington., W.Va., a daughter of the late Kerzie Donahoe and Ida Belle Davis Donahoe. She was a retired employee of CSX Transportation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest E. Estep Sr. She was a lifelong member of Southside United Methodist Church where she was very active on various committees and in the choir. She is survived by one daughter, Angela Estep of Milton; one son and daughter-in-law, Forrest E. “Eddie” Estep Jr. and Robyn of Milton; two grandchildren, Alex Hensley and Ellie Estep; and special nieces, nephews and friends.

Ronald W. Mounts
Ronald W. Mounts, 60, of Milton, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2006, in St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born Feb. 2, 1946, in Williamson, W.Va., son of the late Gratho and Athalie Mounts. He was a retired technician in the Research and Development Department of Special Metals Corporation. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 0177. Survivors include his wife, Jeanie Mounts; a sister, Barbara Smith and brother-in-law, Homer Smith, of Sumter, S.C., sister-in-law, Kim Berry and brother-in-law Doug Berry of Milton; nieces and nephews-in-law, Sharon and Lou Henkel of Woodbridge, Va., Dianne and Tony Spearman of Lane, S.C.; niece Amanda Berry of Milton, nephews John Clark of Shallotte, N.C., and Ben Berry of Milton; great-nieces and nephews, Haley, Swain and A.J. Spearman of Lane, S.C., Andrew and Steven Henkel of Woodbridge, Va., Alexis, Isaiah and Ian Clark of Shallotte, N.C. A celebration of his life was held at his home Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Hospice of Huntington. Henson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Elmyra Blankenship Ferguson
Elmyra Blankenship Ferguson, 83, of Milton, widow of Gobel Ferguson, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2006, at Cornerstone Hospital in Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Carl Merritt. Burial in Morrison Cemetery. She was born August 1, 1922, in Wayne County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late F.M. (Dock) and Chaney Spurlock Blankenship. She was a homemaker and accomplished seamstress. She attended Lighthouse Baptist Church in Milton. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Bertha McCallister and Ada Bocook and one brother, Lee Blankenship. Surviving is her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Katheryn "Kathy" and Darrell White of Milton; seven sisters, Lillian Lange of Carpentersville, Ill., Bessie Templeton of Columbus, Ohio, Martha Perry of Prichard, W.Va., Lavon Johnson of Tennessee, Dorothy Napier of Wayne, Rebecca Casteel and Geneva Willoughby, both of Huntington, W.Va.; six brothers, Albert Blankenship, Edgar Blankenship, Tolbert Blankenship, Samson Blankenship, Floyd Blankenship, all of Wayne, and Roy Blankenship of Prichard, W.Va.; and a special niece, Dianne Hoover of Milton.

Ruby P. Martin
Ruby P. Martin, 76, of Huntington went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, February 8, 2006, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, February 11, 2006, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. James Bolen officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Ruby was born April 18, 1929, in Mason County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Edward and Edith Waugh Pike. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Clarence Martin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jerry and Derry Stowasser and Judy and Sam Washington . Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Anna M. Rogers
Anna M. Rogers, 81, of Huntington passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at her residence. Memorial services for Anna M. Rogers were conducted Friday, February 10, 2006, at Henson Mortuary with the Rev. Lyle Mullins officiating. Interment in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. She was born August 22, 1924, in Logan County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Spencer and Laura Adkins Mullins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Rogers and a daughter, Gwen Gosnay. Surviving are a son Robert S. Rogers and his wife Linda of Plano, Texas ; a daughter Patsy Stollings and her husband Bill with whom she made her home; five grandchildren, Dr. Todd Cremeans and his wife Mendy of Georgetown, Ky., Carrie Ann Stollings of Huntington, Ronnie Gillenwater of Ohio, Daniel Gosnay of South Carolina and Natalie Stomback of Plano, Texas ; four great-grandchildren, Courtney, Katie, Hannah-Paige and Braden Spencer; three sisters, Iris Browning of Princeton, W.Va., Charlotte Nielssen of Florida and Peggy Manula of Huntington; and three brothers, Kennis Mullins of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Bernie Mullins of Princeton and Jim M. Mullins of Ridge Manor, Fla.; and a special brother-in-law, Pete Manula. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Avis Mae Saunders Hendricks
Avis Mae Saunders Hendricks, 78, of Lesage, went home to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, in Mariner Health Care. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at Chapman's Mortuary with the Rev. Buddie Mills and the Rev. Simon Morrison officiating. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Lesage. Avis was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Curtis and Jane Pittman Saunders. She was a member of Mt. Union Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Hendricks. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Mary Hendricks of Huntington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Jay Bocook of Argallite, Ky., Kimberly and Gerald Woodrum of Lesage; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Coppage of Huntsville, Ark.; a grandson Shane Bocook of Argallite, Ky.; two granddaughters, Teresa Shawn Bardwell of Huntsville, Ark., and Carl Hendricks of Huntington; two step grandsons, Richard and Gary Coppage, both of Huntsville, Ark.; three great-grandsons, Randy Weaver, Zachary and Colton Bardwell, all of Huntsville, Ark.; a brother, James Saunders of Lesage; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanda and Granville "Doc" Spurlock of Lesage, Joyce and Jerry Dunford of Red House, W.Va., and Corneila "Corky' and Bill Drake of Proctorville, Ohio; cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. Chapman's Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington, or the charity of your choice.

Wilbert "Wib" Spurlock
Wilbert "Wib" Spurlock, 80 of Glenwood, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born June 10, 1925, in Cabell County, a son to the late Lester and Minnie Spurlock. He was a retired steel worker for Conrad Steel of Huntington and attended many .churches. Preceded in death by brother Manford Spurlock, sister Freda Gilpin, and son-in-law, Nathan Wilson. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Eva Davis Spurlock; sons, Dwayne (Mary) of Lesage, Dallas (Becky) of Glenwood, daughters, Debora (Harvey) Wolfe and Elaine (Chris) Meadows, both of Glenwood; grandson, Calvin Scott (Danielle) Wilson of Glenwood; great-grandsons, Nathaniel and Jadon Wilson; one brother, Jimmie (Nancy) Spurlock of Glenwood. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at the Deal Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Reynolds officiating. Burial in the Greenbottom Memorial Park, Lesage, W.Va.

Wanita Derlene Wetherholt
Wanita Derlene Wetherholt, 74, of Barboursville went home to be with her Lord Thursday, February 9, 2006, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2006, at Susannah Baptist Church with the Rev. Tracy Call officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Wanita was born April 10, 1931, a daughter of the late Albert and Nora Morrison Keenan. She is also preceded in death by one son, Danny Weatherholt; three brothers, Sylvan Keenan, Pete Keenan and Osa "Tootie" Keenan; one sister, Frances Elkins. Wanita is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Charles Wetherholt; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Eddie Dillon; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jerry and Glenna Weatherholt and Rickey Weatherholt. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dana Keenan, Froud Keenan and Darrell Keenan; five sisters, Ethel Venoy, Elosie Smith, Wanda Lewis, Marilyn Collins and Oma Rolfe. Paul Edwin Young
Paul Edwin Young, 74, of Barboursville, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, after a long. illness. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Dr. Ed Grant and the Rev. Ralph Sager. Burial in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar, W.Va. He was born Sept. 28, 1931, in Dunbar, W.Va., a son of the late Marshall R. and Gladys Hanning Young. He was also preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Rosemary Harrison. He was a retired supervisor with AT & T after 33 years of service and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Steele Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of American Legion Post #177, Barboursville. He is survived by his wife, Janice Harrison Young; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and John Cumbea of Raleigh, N.C.; three grandchildren, Zachary Marshall Cumbea, Lindsay Nicole Cumbea and Parker Wesley Cumbea. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Steele Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Huntington.

Jackie Wilkinson
Jackie "Jack" Wilkinson, 72, of Hurricane died February 4, 2006, after a short illness.
He was retired from the Division of Highways.
Surviving: his wife of 43 years, Llewellyn "Lu Lu" Wilkinson; children, Lisa Fitzwater, Jackie and Richie Jacobs, Jackie "Jay" and Crystal Wilkinson, all of Hurricane; grandchildren, Lindsey, Morgan, Chandler and Jayden; brother, Buddy Wilkinson; sisters, Janice Gandee and Loretta Watson; mother-in-law, Hallie Lockard.
Memorial service was held Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Jim McGehee officiating.

Harry M. Cogan III
Harry M. Cogan III, 74, of Hurricane died February 6, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was a lifelong resident of West Virginia, except for his service in the U.S. Air Force 809th Air Police Squadron. He retired from Union Carbide with 37 years of service. He was a member of Farrar Memorial Baptist Church, serving as the Sunday school superintendent, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry M. Cogan II and Ethel Cogan Fisher, and sister, Anita Nelson.
Surviving: his wife of 50 years, Ruth; stepsister, Helen Smith; son, Harry Cogan IV and wife, Karen; daughters, Mary Beth Beaudry and husband, Dan, and Laura Boone; grandchildren, Hal, Brian and Will Cogan, Ellen and Claire Beaudry, Erin, Ryan and Kyle Boone.
Service was held Friday, February 10, 2006, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Joe McClung and the Rev. Jack Gregory officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Memorial donations may be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston WV 25311.
