Gladys Auline Flinn
Parkersburg, WV

Gladys Auline Flinn, 70, of Parkersburg,
passed away Sept. 21, 2009, at Camden-Clark
Memorial Hospital.

She was born Nov. 6, 1938, in Jackson County,
a daughter of the late Richard W. "Jake" Moore
and Anna Ethel Smith Moore. Auline and her
husband had owned and operated Flinns Carryout
at Belleville and she had worked at Kestersons
Cleaners. She was a member of the Eagles and
the American Legion.

Surviving is one son, Darrell E. Flinn (Myra)
of Parkersburg; three daughters, Mary
E. "Punk" Smith and Nancy L. Carpenter, both
of Parkersburg, and Judy A. Lemon (Mark) of
Mineral Wells; 10 grandchildren, Don and Chris
Flinn, Tracy, Joe and Jim Smith, Jessica Mills
and Cristy Smith, Steven Lee, Courtney Ruble
and Jason Lemon; 11 great-grandchildren;
several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a
host of other friends and relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband, Donald Eugene Flinn
in 1986; her sister, Mary Greenburg; and an
infant sister, Faye Moore.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg. Pastor Charlene Spaur will
officiate and burial will follow at Sunset
Memory Gardens. The visitation will be from 2-
8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Emma Ruth Parsons Chenoweth
Parkersburg, WV

Emma Ruth Parsons Chenoweth, 93, of
Parkersburg, passed away Monday, Sept. 14,
2009, at Eagle Pointe Nursing Center, where
she had been a resident.

She was born March 19, 1916, in Calhoun
County, a daughter of the late Manderville and
Dora Keith Parsons.

Ruth attended North Parkersburg Baptist Church
until she was no longer able to attend. Ruth
never met a stranger and was a long time fan
of the Cincinnati Reds. She was a talented
cook and cake decorator, including her famous
Italian Creme Cake.

Surviving is her son, Robert L. (Mary)
Chenoweth of Dallas, Texas; a son-in-law,
Elton E. Jones of Lubeck; seven grandchildren,
Russell (Brenda) Jones of Lubeck, Mary Jane
Jones of Washington, Amy (Matt) Bryant of
Frisco, Texas, Tracy (Scott) Bickhaus of
Bothell, Wash., Whitney Chenoweth of
Bernardsville, N.J., Rachael Chenoweth of
Bernardsville, N.J., and Diane (Shane) Mudge
of Aledo, Texas; 13 great-grandchildren, James
Montgomery (Crystal) and Rachael Montgomery of
Parkersburg, Kirsten Jones and Allison Jones
of Lubeck, Emily Bryant, Luke Bryant and
Audrey Bryant, all of Frisco, Texas, Brittany
Bickhaus, Lauren Bickhaus and Blake Bickhaus,
all of Bothell, Wash., Parker Mudge, Tori
Mudge and Jake Mudge, all of Aledo, Texas; and
three great-great-grandchildren, Blake, Skylar
and Natalie Montgomery, all of Parkersburg.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband, Thurl Ray Chenoweth;
her daughter, Mary Etta Chenoweth Jones; four
brothers, Gordon Parsons, Robert Parsons,
Milliard Parsons and Wilbur Parsons; and three
sisters, Ruby Crawford, Eulalah Bennett and
Marie Parsons.

The funeral services will be conducted at 11
a.m. Thursday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth
St., Parkersburg. Pastor Mike Towner will
officiate and burial will follow at Mt. Olivet
Cemetery. The visitation will be from 5-8 p.m.
today at the funeral home.

Vivian Beryl Stephens Dye
Parkersburg, WV

Vivian Beryl Stephens Dye, 72, of Parkersburg,
passed away Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at St.
Joseph's Hospital.

She was born Jan. 10, 1937, at Slate, in Wood
County, a daughter of the late Orla F. and
Blanche Brown Stephens.

She was a 1955 graduate of Parkersburg High
School, a 1973 graduate of Glenville State
College and did her graduate work at West
Virginia University and Marshall University.
Mrs. Dye taught school at Roosevelt and Gihon
Elementary Schools having retired in 1997. She
was a life member of the P.T.A., a member of
the West Augusta Historical Society, Friends
of Blennerhassett and the Wood County
Historical and Preservation Society. She was a
member of the Lauckport Baptist Church since
1961, having served the Lord in many
capacities: teaching the children, singing in
the choir and served as church clerk.

Surviving is her husband, Kenneth D. Dye whom
she married in 1957; four children, Beverly
and David Dye of Parkersburg, Stephen (Jodene)
Dye of Canton, Ohio, and Jenny Dawkins of
Parkersburg; two grandchildren, Devin Dye at
Case Western Reserve U. in Cleveland, Ohio,
and Elyse Dye of Canton, Ohio; three sisters,
her twin, Virginia Pearl (William) Wright and
Betty K. (Jak) Smith of Parkersburg and Ada
Ruth (Bobbie) Sprouse of Lehigh Acres, Fla.;
seven nieces and nephews; and seven great-
nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by a niece and great-nephew.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday,
at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with the Rev. Dr. William Thomas.
Burial will follow at Evergreen South
Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2-4 and
6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the American
Diabetes Association or to the Kidney
Foundation.

Sherrel Sue Masters
Parkersburg, WV

Sherrel Sue Masters, 68, of Nicolette Road,
Parkersburg, passed away Sunday morning, Sept.
6, 2009, at her residence surrounded by family
members.

She was born Nov. 7, 1940, a daughter to the
late Yancey and Ruth Enoch. She was born and
raised through her pre-teen years in Vienna,
where she attended Vienna Baptist Church. Sue
was a 1958 graduate of Parkersburg High
School. She served in the United States Air
Force, where she attended weather schooling at
Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Ill. Sue
retired from E.I. DuPont with 22 years of
dedicated service. She was a talented artist,
cook and cake decorator, an avid reader and a
collector of Nutcrackers.

Surviving are her five children, Dr. Jeffrey
Peterson of Chicago, Ill., Charles Peterson
Jr. and wife, Brandi, of Charleston, W.Va.,
Tami Hammel and husband, Jay, of Parkersburg,
Patrick Peterson of St. Charles, Mo., and
Jennifer Bartlett and husband, Lewis, of
Parkersburg. Also surviving are her four
brothers, Roger Dean Enoch, Robert (Doni)
Enoch, Kenneth (Jackie) Enoch and Timothy
(Deena) Enoch, all of Parkersburg. Sue's
greatest joy was spending time with her 10
grandchildren, Charles and Cassandra Hammel,
Holly, Allyson, Shayne and Ryan Peterson,
James Ault and Jake Bartlett, and Sarah Dye
and Benjamin Peterson. In addition, Sue will
be sadly missed by her first husband and
friend, Charles Peterson Sr. and wife,
Mildred, of Valley Cottage, N.Y.; by her
beloved dog, Buffy; and her cat, Joe.

A memorial service will be held at a later
date at Trinity Episcopal Church in
Parkersburg, which will be announced. There
will be a visitation with viewing from 4-8
p.m. Wednesday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521
Fifth St., Parkersburg.

Robert Richard Lee
Parkersburg, WV

Robert Richard Lee, 69, of Parkersburg passed
away Wednesday morning, Sept. 2, 2009, at his
home.

He was born Nov. 27, 1939, in Wood County, a
son of the late Charles E. and Georgia Belle
Sams Lee. He was a long time employee of the
Cloverdale Meat Packing Co. and had served in
the U.S. Army during the Korean War time.

Surviving is his companion of 29 years, Sylvia
A. Lee; and several nieces, nephews, great-
nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by brothers, Ray Lee, Earl Lee and
infant Harry Lee; and a sister, Bertha Bush.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Pastor Lloyd Winans
officiating. Burial will follow at the
Pleasant Hill Cemetery on Lost Pavement Road.
The visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at
the funeral home.

Joseph Dewyatt Rice Sr., 90, of Parkersburg,
passed away Sept. 10, 2010, at Camden-Clark
Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.

He was born March 30, 1920, at Ironton, Ohio,
a son of the late Joseph Bryan Rice and Flora
Grayce Morrison Rice.

Joe was retired from DuPont with 22 years of
service having worked as an operator in the
filaments department. He was a 1938 graduate
of Parkersburg High School and member of South
Parkersburg Baptist Church.

Mr. Rice served in the United States Army Air
Corps from 1940-45 during World War II. He had
achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was a
line chief in construction of B-29s. He was
also a recipient of the Bronze Star, the Pearl
Harbor Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was a member and past president of the Wood
County Democrats Club and in 2001 was awarded
the Wood County Democrat of the Year. He was
proud to be a public servant having on
occasion sought election to the West Virginia
House of Delegates. He was a West Virginia
Mountaineer fan and enjoyed fixing and
maintaining things.

Surviving is his loving wife, Betty Hilt Rice;
three sons, David L. Rice, Kelly R. Rice and
Joseph D. Rice Jr. and his wife, Sherry, all
of Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Robert S.
Rice, Brent A. Rice, Shelley A. Anderson, Sean
A. Rice and Jeremy J. Rice; nine great-
grandchildren, Cheyanne Warner, Christian
Anderson, Courtney Anderson, Sean Ryan Rice,
Earl Joseph Rice, Levi Rice, Alexis Gayle
Rice, Dakota Rice and Dilan Rice; two great-
great-grandchildren, Madison Grayce and Jayden
Edward McGloughlin; one brother, Henry E. Rice
of Mesa, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by a great-grandchild, Shane McSherry
Warner II; brothers, Thomas E. Rice, Leonard
E. Rice, William Conrad Rice, Danny Loren Rice
and infant John Rice; and sisters Twila Rice
and infants Hattie and Cordelia Rice.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday
at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with the Rev. John T. Maley and
the Rev. Doug Anderson officiating. Burial
will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery with
military rites by American Legion Post 15 of
Parkersburg. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-
4 and 6-8 p.m.
