Eulah Fay Cox, 90, of Parkersburg, passed away Nov. 27, 2010, at her home.
She was born March 14, 1920, in Wood County, a
daughter of the late Wilbur and Effie Stephens
Eaton. She was a member of South Parkersburg
Baptist Church and had worked as a nurse's
aide at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She
was a member of Salisbury Homemakers Club, the
Senior Stitchers and the West Augusta
Historical and Genealogical Society; she had
also been a Girl Scout leader.
Surviving is her husband, Carel A. Cox Jr.;
three sons, Larry W. (Peggy) Cox of Waterford,
Ohio, Roger D. (Jackie) Cox of Charleston and
Randy E. (Alma) Cox of Parkersburg; two
daughters, Judith K. Hayes of Parkersburg and
Linda L. (Mike) Bennett of Eleanor, W.Va.; son-
in-law, Bill Packard of Washington, W.Va.; 10
grandchildren, Marc Packard, Matt Packard,
Stephanie Cox, Rodney Cox, Cathy Prunty, John
Hayes, Andy Cox, Ryan Cox, Teri Graves and Nic
Bennett; six great-grandchildren; one brother,
Dale (Janet) Eaton of Parkersburg; one sister,
Donna (Bill) Carder of Bradenton, Fla.; and
several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by a daughter, Janet Packard; a son-
in-law, Earl. M Hayes Jr.; and a brother,
Bernard Eaton.
The family would like to express their thanks

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Pastor Joe Busch and Pastor
Larry Dale officiating. Burial will follow at
Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-
8 p.m. Tuesday.
Mary Jane Grogan
Parkersburg, WV
Mary Jane Grogan, 63, of the Parkersburg area,
passed away Nov. 27, 2010, at Riverside
Country Care Center at McConnelsville, Ohio.
She was born June 23, 1947, in Parkersburg, a
daughter of the late Lawrence Abels and Maxine
Walker Rothgeb.
She had been employed as a transporter at
Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
Surviving is her son, William "Keith" (Tracy)
Miskofsky; three sisters, Sharon (Neal) Dye of
Parkersburg, Barbara (Junior) Edge of Oklahoma
and Kim (Bryan ) Decker of Florida; and
several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by a sister, Brenda Dilliner.
Cremation services are being provided by Kimes
Funeral Home and Cremation Services of

Leonard Edgar Furner
Parkersburg, WV
Leonard Edgar Furner, 97, Parkersburg, passed
away Nov. 25, 2010, at his home.
He was born April 16, 1913, at Wolf Summit in
Harrison County, a son of the late Wade and
Oda Nutter Furner.
Leonard was employed with Edenfield Electric
as an electrician and retired from Electrical
Workers Local 968. He was a member of Mt.
Olivet Masonic Lodge No. 3 and had served in
the U.S. Coast Guard.
He enjoyed gardening and the outdoors.
Surviving are two sons, Russell J. (Elizabeth)
Furner of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Raymond
C. (Patricia) Furner of Brownfield, Ind.; two
daughters, Catherine L. Harpold of Coolville
and Janet P. Post (Michael) of Marietta; 10
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one
sister, Geneva Lowther of Parkersburg; and his
dog, Spotty.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta
Wilson Furner in 2003, and 11 brothers and
sisters.
The family would like to express their thanks
to Mr. Furner's caregivers, Glenda, Mary,
Clara, Jamie and Darlene, and to the Amedisys
Hospice Services.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Kimes
Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg, with

Burial will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery with military rites conducted by American
Legion Post 15. Visitation is from 2-4 p.m.
and 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

Homer Edward Byrd
Beavercreek, OH
Homer Edward Byrd, 62, of Beavercreek, Ohio,
formerly of Petroleum, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, after an extended
illness.
He was born July, 17, 1948, in Wheeling,
W.Va., a son of the late Joseph and Garnet
Schoolcraft Byrd.
He was Seventh Day Adventist by faith. He
attended Shenandoah Valley Academy School in
New Market, W.Va., and was honored to serve
his nation as an army medic during the Vietnam
War, as well as in the 1092nd National Guard
and the 146th Air National Guard. After
serving his country, he was an avid truck
driver for 20 years and a loving father to
three wonderful children.
Survivors include his loving wife, Lucy Pearl
Byrd; children, Randy Byrd and wife,
Charleene, of Beavercreek, Tony Byrd of
Petroleum and Tabitha McCune and husband,
Calvin, of Alma, W.Va; brothers, Joseph Byrd
and wife, Bobby, of Cutler, Ohio, and Jeff
Byrd and wife, Dana, of Cutler; sister, Donna
of Parkersburg; 10 grandchildren, Calvin
McCune, Tracy McCune, Latasha McCune, Tonyna
Byrd, Hilary Byrd, Hilton Byrd, Heather Byrd,
Trenton Byrd, James Byrd and Sylvia Byrd; and
several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by a brother, Christopher Byrd; and a
grandson, Gabriel Byrd.

Rev Ernest Clinton Hale
Vienna, WV
The Rev. Ernest Clinton Hale, 95, of Vienna and
a resident of the Cedar Grove Personal Care
Home for the past six years, passed away Nov.
23, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was born Dec. 13, 1914 near Belleville, a
son of the late Joseph R. (Cap) Hale and Chloe
Flinn Hale. Ernest was a member of Vienna
Baptist Church and pastored at Sunrise Baptist,
Big Tygart Baptist and Beulah Hill Presbyterian
Churches. He retired from the Penn Metal Co.
with 27 years of service and was a member of
the Vienna Masonic Lodge.
Surviving is his wife, Gladys L. Sloan Hale;
one son, Roger D. Hale of Parkersburg and a
daughter, Linda (Joe) Meyer of Canton, Ohio;
one stepgranddaughter, Cherly Arcenault and two
stepgreat-grandchildren, Braunavan Arcenault
and Brylon Arcenault.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his sister, Gladys Irene Hale.
The funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m.
Monday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg. Pastor William Brown will
officiate and burial will follow at Sunset
Memory Gardens. The visitation will be from 3-5
p.m. Sunday.

Thelma Jean Curtiss
Parkersburg, WV
Thelma Jean Curtiss, 68, of the Lost Pavement
Community, passed away Nov. 17, 2010, at St.
Joseph's Hospital.
She was born Aug. 16, 1942 in Jackson County,
a daughter of the late Homer and Mattie
Gibbons Pursley.
Jean retired from the Wood County Assessor's
office with 32 years of service and was
affiliated with the Church of Christ. She
enjoyed her grandchildren, quilting and
crochet.
Surviving is her husband, Orbert "Carl"
Curtiss; two sons, Steven Carl Curtiss of
Phoenix, Ariz. and Brian Keith Curtiss of
Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Shane, Shawn
and Shyla Curtiss, all of Arizona, and Allison
and Braden Curtiss, both of Parkersburg; one
brother, Wayne Pursley of Parkersburg; two
sisters, Marie Boso and Betty Morris, both of
Parkersburg, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral for Jean will be on Saturday, 2
p.m. at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street,
Parkersburg. Evangelist John Rockhold will
officiate and burial will follow at Sunset
Memory Gardens. The visitation will be Friday
from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
