Kathern M. Johnson, 71, of Parkersburg, passed
away Feb. 25, 2012, at Camden Clark Medical
Center, Memorial Campus.
She was born Oct. 17, 1940, in Parkersburg, a
daughter of the late Howard Kenneth and Dale
Agnes Wright Bennett.
Kathern retired from the Vienna Wal-Mart's
Deli Department and she enjoyed reading.
Surviving is her daughter, Marinna Heyse of
Parkersburg; one grandson, Howard Kenneth
Murray of Parkersburg; great-granddaughter,
Alyssa Renna Murray; one brother, Larry C.
(Carolyn) Bennett of Parkersburg; one sister,
Judy (Ronnie) Boso in Tennessee; and some
nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her companion, Ralph Goodman.
There will be no service or visitation.
Kimes Funeral Home and Cremation Services is

Bernice Jane Padgett Goff
Parkersburg, WV
Bernice Jane Padgett Goff, 89, of Parkersburg,
passed away Feb. 25, 2012, at Highland Oaks
Health Center, McConnelsville, Ohio.
She was born Aug. 7, 1922, in Charleston,
W.Va., a daughter of the late Carl Cannon and
Bernice George Padgett.
Bernice was a member of First Baptist Church,
Parkersburg, a Parkersburg High School
graduate and retired from Diamond Department
Store of the Grand Central Mall. She was a
member of the Women of the Moose, enjoyed
quilting and sewing, reading, history and
genealogy, and traveling.
Surviving are two sons, George "Sonny"
(Melanie) Goff of Grant, Ala., and Robert
L. "Bob" (Sarah) Goff of Parkersburg; one
daughter, Susan Hilliard (Alan) of Belpre;
three sisters, Suda Scroggins, Marie Frady
(Ronald) and Sally Gainer; grandchildren,
George W. Goff III, Steven Johnson, Courtney
L. Wall, David Zitcovich Jr., Jonathan
Hoselton, Lindsey Mowery, Joel Hilliard,
Andrew Hilliard, Lisa Baker and Kelly Hamblin;
and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband, George W. Goff; two
brothers, Junior Padgett and John Padgett; and
one sister, Carol Noblin.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Pastor Rich McClure
officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet
Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today
and one hour prior to the services Tuesday at
the funeral home.
Memorial donations should be directed to the
Alzheimer's Association.

Ray Halie Smith, 76, of Parkersburg, passed
away Feb. 25, 2012.
There will be no service or visitation.
Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens.
Irene Riddle
Parkersburg, WV
Irene Riddle, 83, of Parkersburg (formerly
of Ft. Worth, Texas), passed away Feb. 24,
2012, at Camden Clark Medical Center, St.
Joseph's Campus, with family at her side.
She was born May 15, 1928, in Manchester,
England, a daughter of the late Reginald John
and Mary Jane Hilton Jones.
Irene was a homemaker who took care of her
family. She volunteered for the American Red
Cross Society at several military bases and
the Blinded Veterans Association in Texas. She
enjoyed traveling, spending time with family
and friends, her dogs, and watching birds and
squirrels play in the backyard.
Surviving is her husband, William L. Riddle;
one son, John (Phyllis) Riddle of Weatherford,
Texas; daughter, Karen (Bill) Amick of
Parkersburg; grandchildren, Jess (Kinsey)
Amick of New Martinsburg, W.Va., Heather Amick
Kovalak of Woodbury, Minn., Keith (Nicole)
Riddle of Fayetteville, N.C., and Patience
Johnson-Parker of Weatherford, Texas; and
great-grandchildren, Isadora Amick, Abigail
Kovalak, Kayleigh, Luke and Sera Riddle and
Jennifer, Jacob and Shelby Parker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by a brother, Reginald Jones; and a
sister, Hilda Mortimer.
At her request, there will be no service or
visitation. Kimes Funeral Home and Cremation
Services of Parkersburg is assisting the
family.

Mary Ellen Cheatham
Parkersburg, WV
Mary Ellen Cheatham, 88, of Parkersburg,
passed away Feb. 19, 2012, at her home.
She was born May 31, 1923, in Fairmont, W.Va.,
a daughter of the late James Owen and Caroline
Ethel Post Gallaspie.
Mary was well-known in the Fairmont area,
having been a graduate of West Fairmont High
School and Fairmont State College. She was
active in many clubs in Fairmont and had
worked as a substitute teacher in many schools
in the Marion and Wetzel County school
systems. Locally, she was a member of Stout
Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. James (Donna)
Cheatham of Dayton, Ohio, and John (Debbie)
Cheatham of Peachtree City, Ga.; two
daughters, Carolyn Sue Cheatham (Bob) Farrar
of Elkins and Roberta Cheatham Tedrick of
Parkersburg; nine grandchildren, Kirk (Tammy)
Mills, Katie Tedrick, Susan (Phillip)
O'Rielly, Robert Neil (Kristi) Farrar, John
Patrick Farrar, Bradley (Angie) Cheatham,
Julie (Lou) Palumbo, Allison (Alex) Sardis and
Megan Cheatham; 14 great-grandchildren; three
great-great-grandchildren; and two close
friends, Frances Cunningham and Jo Beverlin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband, Arnold Cheatham.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday
at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, and her son-in-law, Pastor Bob
Farrar will officiate. Burial will be at a
later date at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Marion
County. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
The family would like to express their thanks
and appreciation to Housecalls Hospice and to
Dr. Catherine Adkins for the love and care
shown to Mary Ellen during her illness.
Mary Ellen Stoneking
Parkersburg, WV
Mary Ellen Stoneking, 83, of Parkersburg,
passed away Feb. 19, 2012, at her home.
She was born July 13, 1928 at Sand Fork in
Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Manassa
and Martha Wilmoth Wilfong. Mary was a member
of the Blennerhassett Nazarene Church and was
a homemaker.
She was a graduate of Mark's Beauty School in
Huntington and had at one time worked as a
hairstylist and manicurist. She was an avid
reader, she was an accomplished poet, with
some of her poems being written into songs.
Mary was an expert seamstress, enjoyed
quiling, arranging wildflowers, loved cooking
and taking care of the home. Above all she was
a Christian woman who loved serving her Lord
and her church.
Surviving is her husband of 63 years, Denzil
R. Stoneking; two daughters, Pamela (John)
Mello of Roanoke, Va. and Beth (Dale) Cottrill
of Beaver, Pa.; three grandchildren, Samuel
(Emily) Beckett of Eagle Rock, Pa., Sara (Tom)
Baldauff of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Lara Cottrill
of Beaver, Pa.; three great-grandchildren,
Paul, Andrew and Grace Baldauff all of
Pittsburgh; one sister, Evelyn Wright
Parkersburg and her nephew, David E. (Norine)
Wright and their daughter, Alysia of
Parkersburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by a brother, Earl Wilfong.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m.
Thursday at the Blennerhassett Nazarene
Church. Rev. Robert Kniley will officiate and
burial will follow at the Shiloh Cemetery. The
visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday
at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street,
Parkersburg and an hour prior to the service
at the church on Thursday.
