Josephine Wigner Richards, 89, of Parkersburg,
passed away Dec. 6, 2011, at the Memorial
University Medical Center in Savannah, Ga.
She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of the
late Canis and Carrie Gates Wigner.
She was affiliated with the Emmanuel Baptist
Church and was a homemaker.
Surviving are two sons, George Michael
(Frankie) Richards of Columbia, S.C. and
Gregory L. Richards of Savannah.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband, George E. Richards.
There will be a graveside service held at 3:30
p.m. Saturday, at Parkersburg Memorial
Gardens, Rev. Dr. Kurt Busiek will officiate
and burial will follow. There will be no
public visitation.
Kimes Funeral Home of Parkersburg is in charge
of local arrangements.
Carolyn Lee Lucas Mills
Washington, WV
Carolyn Lee Lucas Mills went to be with her
Jesus on Dec. 4, 2011.
She was born Wednesday April 16, 1941 to the
late Thomas O. Lucas and Dorothy E. Haines
Lucas.
Also deceased is her brother, Tommy Lucas.
She is survived by Jack A. Mills, who she
married on Aug. 2, 1963. She is also survived
by her three children, daughter, Wendy Snyder
of Ravenswood, son Todd Mills of Parkersburg
and daughter, Nicole Irvine of Washington,
W.Va.; four grandchildren, Alyssa Brooke
Mills, Shaina Snyder, Logan Snyder and Haylen
Lee Irvine; two sisters, Bea Smith of Mineral
Wells and Betty Jo Price of Mineral Wells, and
brother-in-law, David Allen Smith, also of
Mineral Wells; one uncle, Kenneth (Helen)
Lucas of Parkersburg and two other aunts, Faye
Snyder and Freda Lucas.
She was a member of Stephenson Memorial United
Methodist Church for many years where she was
active on several church committees, taught
Sunday School and was over many Christmas
programs and was a member of the Chancel Choir
for 34 years. She was a graduate of
Parkersburg High School and attended
Parkersburg Community College. She worked
several years at the Bureau of Public Debt
where she won many awards and a yearly
outstanding award. She worked at Genesis Art
Gallery and worked at Stephenson Church as
secretary for seven years. She was also a
volunteer at Camden Clark Hospital for 10
years. She was a Brownie Scout leader and
helped with the Girl Scouts and did volunteer
work at Blennerhassett School.
She loved singing in her church choir. She
loved skating when she was younger and loved
working out in her yard. She used to do
ceramic paintings at the YWCA. Another of her
favorite hobbies was decorating.
There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial
Service held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the
Stephenson Memorial United Methodist Church.
Rev. Mona M. Jackson will officiate. The
family will receive friends one hour prior to
the service.
Viola Rose (Peggy) Smarr
Rt. 3 Elizabeth, WV
Viola Rose "Peggy" Smarr, 70, of Route 3,
Elizabeth, passed away Dec. 3, 2011, at Camden
Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.
She was born Nov. 28, 1941, in Elizabeth, a
daughter of the late Richie Doy and Orma
Frances Morgan Law.
Peggy was of the Protestant faith and had
worked at the Dairy Bar in Elizabeth and also
the 7-Eleven in Mineral Wells.
Surviving is her sister, Patty (Bill) Nutter
of Elizabeth; grandson, Jonathan Cade of
Pittsburgh, Pa.; and several nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by husband, Bradford Smarr; daughter,
Debra Kay Smarr; and brother, Lyle Beverly Law.
There will be a graveside memorial service at
a later date at the K of P Cemetery at the
convenience of the family.

Morgan Dawn Costa
Parkersburg, WV
Morgan Dawn Costa, 18, of Parkersburg, passed
away Dec. 2, 2011, from injuries sustained in
an automobile accident.
She was born Oct. 4, 1993 in Hyannis, Mass. to
Peter Costa of Massachusetts and Erin Slattery
Rhodes of Parkersburg.
Also surviving is her stepfather, Gary Rhodes
of Parkersburg; her twin sister, Connie Costa
of Parkersburg and sister, Riley Rhodes;
grandparents, Vera and Larry Rhodes of
Parkersburg, Nancy Couture of Brewster, Mass.,
Avis Johnson of Provincetown, Mass.; great-
grandparents, Martha Devol and Mariann Goveia.
Morgan was a 2011 graduate of Parkersburg High
School where she was a member of the
Philosophy Club, the Thespians and had
participated in Quiz Bowl. She was a member of
St. Paul United Methodist Church and was
currently a student at WVU-Parkersburg.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m.
Friday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg. Rev. W. Brent Sturm, O.S.L. will
officiate and burial will follow at Mt. Olivet
Cemetery.
There will be a visitation on Thursday from 6-
8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on
Friday.
Mary Elizabeth Richards
Parkersburg, WV
Mary Elizabeth Richards, 90, of Parkersburg
and a resident of Worthington Manor Nursing
Home for the past 10 years, passed away Nov.
26, 2011, at Worthington Manor.
She was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Wood County, a
daughter of the late Pearl Marie Roberts.
Mary was a member of St. Andrews United
Methodist Church, where she had served as
church custodian, was a member of the United
Methodist Woman and the Western Service Guild.
Surviving are two sons, Donald C. (Donna)
Richards of Parkersburg and Michael L. (Joyce)
Richards of Belpre; seven grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-
granddaughter.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in
death by her daughter, Patricia Sue Frame.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg. The Rev. Thomas McDowell will
officiate and burial will be at Sunset Memory
Gardens. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday.
Charles Michael Lyons
Parkersburg, WV
Charles Michael Lyons Jr., known by family and
friends as Big, Michael, Mike or Ilky, 31, of
Parkersburg, passed away Nov. 25, 2011, at
7:41 p.m.
He is survived by daughters, Keirsten and
Lindsey Lyons; mom, Della Lyons; sisters,
Wilma Sprouse (Matt) and Christina McCune
(Donnie); brothers, Raymond Lyons (Raymond II
and Suzanna), James Lyons (Little) (Megan),
Paul Lyons (Kayla), Eric Francis (Chrissy) and
Justin Tanner; several nieces and nephews; and
mother, Becky Tanner.
He was preceded in death by his father,
Charles Lyons.
In memory of Charles, contributions may be
made to Kimes to help with expenses.
Pallbearers will be Tom, Bill, JJ, James, Nick
and Matt.
Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Tuesday at Kimes
Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg,
where the funeral service will be at 11 a.m.
Wednesday.
