Robert Ray Brookover
Parkersburg, WV

Robert Ray Brookover, 59, of Parkersburg,
passed away Aug. 18, 2013, at the Charleston
Area Medical Center.

He was born May 14, 1954 in Parkersburg, a son
of Donald R. and Justine L. Smith Brookover of
Lubeck.

He was a 1973 graduate of Parkersburg High
School and was a former employee of Hattman
Glass, Ames, Kardex, American Heating & Air
Conditioning and Parkersburg Glass.

Robert was a member of the Eagles Club and
enjoyed fishing and raising tomatoes that he
shared with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by
a brother, Berny (Linda) Brookover and a
sister Beverly (Steve) Matheny all of
Parkersburg and several nieces and nephews and
his special pet companion cat "Kiki".

There will be a graveside service at the
Chapel of Peace of Sunset Memory Gardens
Wednesday at 11 a.m. Pastor Lynn Roush will
officiate and burial will follow.

Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, is assisting the family.

The family would like to express their
heartfelt thanks to Dr. John Beane for the
excellent care given to Robert over the past
nine years. Memorial donations may be made to
the Rosenbaum Family House, @#1Medical Center
Drive, P.O.Box 8228, Morgantown, WV 26506.

Mark Neal Pryce
Mineral Wells, WV

Mark Neale Pryce, 53, of Mineral Wells, W.Va.,
went to his heavenly home to be with his Dad
on Aug. 16, 2013, at his home surrounded by
his family.

He was born March 14, 1960, in Parkersburg,
W.Va., the son of Robert Arthur Pryce (late)
and Betty Jo Lucas Pryce.

Mark had worked in the building industry for
many years. He was a very talented craftsman
who could build anything out of wood. He
worked for several years with his brother,
Lance, building custom cabinets (Pryce Custom
Woodworking). He and his brother created
beautiful pieces and this is the work that he
was proud of. He was an avid hunter and
fisherman who loved spending time in the
mountains trout fishing or in Colorado
hunting. He was a good man who devoted his
time to his family and friends. He was loved
and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Burnside
Pryce, and his children, Devin Maria Pryce,
Katie Renee Pryce and Brendon Neale Pryce, all
of the home; his mother, Betty Jo Lucas Pryce-
Morehead (Dave) of Mineral Wells; his
brothers, Matthew Pryce (Chris) of Mineral
Wells and Lance Pryce (Stacey) of Steamboat
Springs, Colo.; four nieces, Stephanie Pryce
(Aaron), Katelyn Powers, Christina Pryce and
Kendra Pryce; one nephew, Robert (Bobby)
Pryce; one aunt, Bea Smith; two uncles, Dave
Smith and Jack Mills; and many cousins and
great-aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert
A. Pryce; maternal grandparents, Dorothy and
Thomas O. Lucas; paternal grandfather, James
Pryce; paternal grandmother, Ina Pryce Webber;
step-grandfather, Walter Webber; one uncle,
Tommy Lucas; and two aunts, Carolyn Mills and
Mary Jean Sheppard.

A memorial service will be 5:30 p.m. Aug. 24
at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church at
Mineral Wells. Pastor Kevin Lantz will
officiate. The family will receive friends
beginning at 4 p.m. Aug. 24 at the church.

Kimes Funeral Home & Cremation Services of
Parkersburg is assisting the family.

Rev. John Butler
Vinton, OH

Reverend John Butler, 84, of Vinton, Ohio,
formerly of the Wadesville area, passed away
Aug. 11, 2013, at his home.

He was born May 24, 1929 at Prenter, W.Va., a
son of the late George and Rosa Collins Butler.

John retired from the Corrugated Box Factory
as a supervisor, and had pastored several
churches in the area. He was currently a
member of the Deer Creek Baptist Church at
Vinton.

Surviving is his caregiver, Norma Johnson; one
brother, Bobby Butler; and three sisters,
Pauline Holstin, Linda Turley and Betty Jo
Price. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his wife, Helen Scott
Butler; his daughter, Patricia Ann Wolford;
three brothers, James, George Jr. and David
Butler; and a sister, Ruth Tawney.

Honoring his request, there will be no funeral
service and no viewing. However, there will be
a graveside service at 1 p.m. Wednesday at
Sunset Memory Gardens. Pastor Everett Snyder
will officiate and burial will follow.

Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street,
Parkersburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Ray "Joe" Simmons
Cairo, WV

Joseph Ray "Joe" Simmons, 49, of Cairo, went
home to be with his Lord, Aug. 8, 2013, at
Camden Clark Medical Center.

He was hurt while working on his wife's car at
his river lot on Route 47.

He was born March 31, 1964 in Wood County, the
son of the late James L. Simmons Sr. and Inez
Grimes Ankrom Simmons.

Joe enjoyed spending time at his river lot,
fishing and boating.

Surviving is his soul mate and wife of 29
years, Bonnie Metz Simmons; two daughters, Amy
(Oscar Goodwin) Simmons of Princeton and
Amanda (Andy) Collins of Happy Valley; two
grandchildren, Ethan Andrew Collins and Aiden
Joseph Collins; his companion dog, Buttercup;
one brother, James L. "Jimmy" (Virginia)
Simmons of Lubeck; three sisters, Alice
(Harold) Hardbarger of Harrisville, Madge
(Heze Miller) Ankrom of Cairo, and Rosie
Pierce of West Union; several nieces and
nephews; special friends, Mona Region and her
family; his DeBarr Trucking friends; and his
river lot friends. In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by brothers, Alpha
Ankrom and Everett Ankrom; sister, Linda
Kocher; and his beloved grandmother, Nellie
Grimes.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.
Monday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth
Street, Parkersburg. Pastor Doug Guinn will
officiate and burial will follow at the
Ellenboro Masonic Cemetery. The visitation
will be on Sunday from 4-8 p.m.

Dorothy Jeanne Hicks
Parkersburg, WV

Dorothy Jeanne Lyons Hicks, 81, Parkersburg,
passed away Aug. 6, 2013, at her home.

She was born Sept. 12, 1931, in Parkersburg, a
daughter of the late Albert Clayton and Bertha
Mae Biles Lyons.

Dorothy was a long-time member of the Trinity
United Methodist Church and the Star of Hope
Circle of the United Methodist Women. She was
a homemaker and was a very charitable lady.

Surviving is her son, Jonathan (Lois) Hicks of
Parkersburg and daughter, Lisa K. (Joseph)
Stephens of Parkersburg; five grandchildren,
Heather Holbert, Alisha Knotts, Tara Ashley,
Laury Hicks and Zachery Dye; six great-
grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild;
four brothers, David (Sue) Lyons of
Parkersburg, Tom (Helen) Lyons of Texas,
Douglas (Sylvia) Lyons of Parkersburg and
Barry (Cindy) Lyons of Virginia; one sister,
Bonnie (Forrest) Cheuvront of Arizona; and
several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband Glen Earl Hicks; a
daughter, Diana Dye; a brother, Clayton Lyons;
an infant sister, Betty; and two infant
grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kimes
Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg.
Pastor Jim Burdette will officiate and burial
will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery at
Lost Pavement. Visitation will be from 2-4
p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday and an hour prior to
services on Saturday

Bertram Eugene "Bert" Merritt
Parkersburg, WV

Bertram Eugene "Bert" Merritt, 82, of
Parkersburg, passed away Aug. 4, 2013, at The
Willows Nursing Center.

He was born June 9, 1931 in Wood County, a son
of the late Guy and Ona Scritchfield Merritt.

Bert was a member of the Stephenson Memorial
United Methodist Church. He retired with 45
years of service with Kroger's as a Dairy
Clerk.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #3 and
the Nemesis Shrine where he served as Hospital
Chairman for several years. Bert also worked
with the Jefferson Elementary School helping
to supply shoes and clothing for the children.

Surviving is his wife, June Swesey Merritt;
one son, John (Bridie) Merritt of Parkersburg;
two daughters, Joyce (Matthew Koziatek)
Merritt of Lexington, Ky. and Sharon Bleehous
of Watertown, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Cody
Merritt, Hailee Merritt, Aiden Merritt and
Kendal Koziatek.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by a sister, Janet Hoschar.

The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday
at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street,
Parkersburg, Rev. Mona Jackson will officiate.
Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with
Masonic Graveside Rites.

The visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8
p.m. and an hour prior to the service on
Friday.
