David L. Higginbotham
David Lee Higginbotham, 56, of Grimms Landing died April 13, 2006, at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus, following a short illness.
Born July 30, 1949, he was the son of the late Gerald R. and Florence Higginbotham. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ernest “Dick” Higginbotham.
He was a graduate of Buffalo High School. He was a retired grounds man for the IBEW Local 317, Huntington, and former owner of the Arbuckle Carry Out. He was an avid hang glider in his earlier years.
Surviving: sister, Barbara Buck of Buffalo; brothers, Vermont Higginbotham Jr. and William “Bill” Higginbotham, both of Grimms Landing, and Gerald Lee Higginbotham of Midway, Putnam County; many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Service was held April 17, 2006 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor James Boggess and Randy Parsons officiating. Burial was in Evening Sunset Family Cemetery, Grimms Landing.
Roger Goff
Roger Goff, 70, of Scott Depot died April 15, 2006, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.
Born November 2, 1935 in Mount Pleasant, Ohio, he was a son of the late Myron and Esther Grafton Goff. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Myron.
He was a professional engineer with American Electric Power, retiring as the training manager of the Operator Training Center at John Amos Power Plant. Prior he was an engineer with Cardinal Power Plant, Brilliant, Ohio. He was a member of the American Society of Professional Engineers and received his degree from the University of Cincinnati, where he was a life member of the Alumni Association.
Surviving: wife, Barbara Goff; children, Caroline Shoobridge and husband, David, of Linville, Virginia, Sheila Larue of Springfield, Massachusetts, Albert Larue and wife, Teresa, of St. Albans; sisters, Virginia Stanley of Damascus, Ohio, Evelyn Steer and husband, Jerry, of Damasus, and Charlotte Jackson and husband, Les, of Ohio; brothers, Russell Goff and wife, Pat, of Maryland, Indiana, and Wilbur Goff and wife, Ann, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ; grandchildren, Joshua, Ronnie, Tyler, Andrew, Hannah and Haylee; feline companions, Spooky and Henry; longtime co-worker and friend, Linda Smith.
Service was held April 18, 2006 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with his son-in-law, the Rev. David Shoobridge officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Thelma “Myrtle” McGrew
Thelma “Myrtle” McGrew, 82, of Nitro died April 14, 2006, in Hubbard Hospice House.
She was a member of West Virginia Home Mission and a former florist for Greentree Garden Center.
She was preceded in death by sons, Fred McGrew Jr. and Michael McGrew, and brother, Charles McClanahan.
Surviving: husband, Fred McGrew Sr.; children, Joan Siders and husband, Paul, of St. Albans, Diane Smith and husband, Frank, of Poca, Linda Akers and husband, Dwight, of St. Albans, Jerry McGrew and wife, Linda, of Winfield; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held April 18, 2006 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. William “Bud” Hatfield officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Osley Howard Tucker
Osley Howard “Toss” Tucker, 83, of Scott Depot died April 13, 2006, at Putnam General Hospital.
He was born March 9, 1923 in Scott Depot, a son of the later Walter and Satchie Myers Tucker.
He retired as a steel worker from True Temper Corporation with 35 years of service. He enjoyed roaming the woods and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving: wife, Rowena “Jean” Tucker; son, Michael Tucker of Hurricane; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Sue and Robert Mash of Scott Depot; sister, Christine Dudding of Scott Depot; grandsons, Jeffrey Michael and Brent Clayton Davis, Eric William Tucker; granddaughters, Christine and Nicole Davis; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Tristen and Gauge.
Graveside service was held April 17, 2006 at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, with the Rev. Robert Kelley officiating. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.
Pauline Browning Sammons
Pauline Browning Sammons, 83, of Barboursville, widow of Wayne J. Sammons, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006 in Logan Regional Medical Center. She retired from Island Creek Stores at Holden, and worked at Monitor Coal and Coke Store at Wilkinson. Services were conducted Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Honaker Funeral Home, Logan; burial in Highland Memory Gardens, Godby. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Logan.
Edith Jewel Grubbs
Edith Jewel Grubbs, 75, of Huntington, W.Va., formerly of Barboursville, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2006, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Barboursville Baptist Church by the Rev. Craig Coster. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Huntington. She was born July 11, 1930, at Louisa, Ky., daughter of the late Leo Pauley and Emily Pauley Watts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Grubbs Sr. in 1975, and by an infant son, Christopher Anthony Grubs. She was a proud Kentucky girl. She was a member and supporter of Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 9738 of Guyandotte and a member of Barboursville Baptist Church. She looked forward to the first Saturday in May every year for the “Run for the Roses,” The Kentucky Derby, a special day she enjoyed with her family and friends at the VFW in Guyandotte. Mrs. Grubbs is survived by her children, Luther Grubbs, Pamela Dunfee, Rebecca Brick, Charles H. Grubbs Jr. and Angela Grubbs King. A “sister” will be missed by Corinne Wright, Almalean Rowley, Geraldine McKenzie, Phyllis Walker, Kenny Watts and the late Alford Pauley. “MeMaw” will be missed by her many grandkids and great-grandkids. Henson Mortuary, Huntington, was in charge of arrangements. The family offers a special thanks to the medical staff of St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Jerry F. Raynes
Jerry F. Raynes, 58, of Buffalo died Monday, March 27, 2006, following a long illness.
He was a former construction worker and former employee of American Viscose, Nitro. He was a 1966 graduate of Buffalo High School and a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
Born September 26, 1947, he was the son of the late Rudolph and Clestia Thornton Raynes. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jason Raynes.
Surviving: son, Jamie Raynes of Hurricane; sister, Marilyn Raynes of Buffalo; brothers, Gene Raynes of South Charleston and Rudolph Raynes Jr. of Buffalo; one grandchild.
Service was held Friday, March 31, 2006, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Mike Tucker and Woody Willard officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.
Ruthana P. Gibson
Ruthana P. Gibson, 87, of Scott Depot died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, in SunBridge of Putnam Nursing Center.
She was a member of Wade Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hayward Gibson, and sister, Eugenia Witt and Roberta Fisher.
Surviving: son and his wife, Bob and Debbie Gibson of Teays Valley; grandchildren, Robin Gibson of Columbus and Brian Gibson of Teays Valley.
Service was held Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Wade Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ed Grant and Pastor Wayne Hooper officiating. Burial was in Parkins Cemetery, Liberty. Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

William F. Goff Sr.
William F. “Huncy” Goff Sr., 78, of Poca died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Raymond City after a short illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Poca and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a retired truck driver from Monsanto Chemical Company.
Surviving: grandson, Benjamin R. Burdette IV and wife, Erin N., of Poca; daughter-in-law, Velma A. Burdette of Bancroft; caregivers, Paul and Bonnie Zink, and son, Frankie, of Raymond City.
Service was held Friday, March 31, 2006, at Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro, with Father Bill Petro officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.
