Randall L Brannon
Parkersburg, WV

Randall L. "Randy" Brannon, 62, of
Parkersburg, passed away Feb. 5,
2015.

He was born Oct. 30, 1952, in
Parkersburg, the son of Doris M.
Dunbar Brannon of Parkersburg and the
late Marvin P. Brannon.

Randy, a 1970 graduate of Parkersburg
South High School, was the class
Valedictorian and the PSHS Band's
Field Commander in 1969 and 1970. He
graduated from West Virginia
University in 1974 receiving his
Bachelor's Degree in Music and his
Master's Degree in Music from Ohio
University in 1976. Randy attended
Trinity United Methodist Church where
he shared his God given musical
talents. He also enjoyed daily visits
to Cedar Grove Assisted Living
Facility, visiting with the residents
and his father in law, also a
resident there.

He served as Band Director at
Petersburg High School (WV) from
1976-1982, and Edison Junior High
School in Parkersburg from 1982-2008.
From 2008-2011 he was the Assistant
Marching Band Director at Parkersburg
South High School. Since 2008 until
presently, he was the Adjunct
Instructor of Clarinet/Saxophone at
Marietta College.

Randy was also a member of the WVMEA
since 1976, and the Phi Beta Mu Band
Honorary since 1992. He was currently
a member of the River Cities Symphony
Orchestra and the Smoot House Band.
In 1992 and 2007, he was named West
Virginia's Outstanding Bandmaster by
Phi Beta Mu National Band Honorary
and Wood County Teacher of the Year
in 2000. Randy also conducted the
honor bands at Northern Regional
Middle School, Eastern Regional
Middle School, Mercer County Middle
School and was the recipient of many
other awards and honors.

In addition to his mother, he is
survived by his high school
sweetheart and wife of 40 years, Tina
Wilcoxen Brannon; his sister,
Kimberly D. Brown of Parkersburg; his
sister in law, Tia (Roger) Brown of
Parkersburg; sister in law, Trina
Crawford of Dacula, Ga.; father in
law, James Wilcoxen of Cedar Grove
Assisted Living; nieces and nephews,
Rebecca Brown, Ashley Brown, Angela
Brown, Christie (Jeremy) Willis, Eric
(Cathey) Brown, Melody (Mark) McLean,
Kaitlyn Crawford and Lyndsey
Crawford; and great nieces and
nephews, Barrett Ullman, Madelynn
Shank and Rorie Brown.

Also surviving is a host of friends
and acquaintances including a special
friend, Ron Gann of Parkersburg.

In addition to his father, he was
preceded in death by his paternal
grandparents, J.S. and Racine
Brannon; his maternal grandparents,
Otis and Otie Dunbar; and his mother
in law, Helen Wilcoxen.

There will be a gathering of friends
and relatives on Wednesday, Feb. 11,
at Kimes Funeral Home in Parkersburg
from 4-7 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the
Erickson All Sports Facility in care
of the funeral home.

Gladys Margaret Deems
Avon, IN

Gladys Margaret Deems, 94, of Avon, Ind.,
formerly of the Parkersburg area, passed away
Feb. 2, 2015, at the Indiana University, West.

She was born Nov. 30, 1920, in Sharon, Pa., a
daughter of the late Henry and Ruby Chancellor
Beatty.

Gladys had been a long time member of Trinity
United Methodist Church and the United
Methodist Women, and she was a homemaker.

Surviving is her daughter, Bonnie (Jerry)
Rosner of Avon, Ind.; and one grandson,
Jeffery McElroy. In addtion to her parents,
she was preceded in death by her husband,
Joseph Lawrence Deems, on Sept. 14, 1987; and
an infant brother and an infant sister.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.,
Friday, Feb. 6, at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 5th
Street Parkersburg. Pastor Dave Stilgenbauer
will be speaking and burial will follow at
Evergreen North Cemetery. The visitation will
be one hour prior to the service on Friday at
the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to favorite
animal charities of the donor's choice.

Quentin Jason Allen Pulliam
Parkersburg, WV

Quentin Jason Allen Pulliam, 38, of
Parkersburg, passed away Feb. 2, 2015, at his
home.

He was born Jan. 30, 1977, in Charleston,
S.C., a the son of Al Pulliam of Overgood,
Az., and Melody Suzi Robinson Taylor of
Parkersburg, and step-son to Diane Pulliam in
Overgood, Az.

Quentin was a graduate of the Horizon High
School in Arizona. He enjoyed playing the
guitar and drawing.

In addition to his parents and step-mother, he
is survived by his wife, Rachel Lowe Pulliam;
one son, Quentin Jason Allen Pulliam II at
home; and one daughter, Dillian Erin Pulliam
at home.

There will be no funeral service. Howerver,
there will be a gathering of friends and
relatives from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 5, at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 5th Street
Parkersburg. Cremation will follow.

Helen Jean Rowley
Deerwalk, WV

Helen Jean Rowley, 76, of the Deerwalk
Community, went home to be with her Lord on
Jan. 31, 2015, at Camden Clark Medical Center
following an extended illness.

Jean was born on April 29, 1938, in
Parkersburg, the daughter of the late Elsworth
and Dorothy Thomas.

Jean and her husband Orva owned and operated
Rowley's Food Fair in Cairo, W.Va., for 27
years. She was a member of the United
Methodist Church in Cairo where she enjoyed
teaching Sunday School. The church at Cairo
continues to have an annual Christmas
candlelight service that Jean started some 40
years ago.

Jean also enjoyed sewing and especially
enjoyed making quilts for her children and
grandchildren. She also enjoyed embroidery and
reading and she inherited her mother's "Green
Thumb"......loved her Roses.

Surviving is her husband of 60 years, Orva
Rowley; and their children, Dennis (Marsha)
Rowley and Darrel (Marie) Rowley, both of
Cairo, Denver Rowley of Mineral Wells and
Darlene Rowley of Waverly.

Jean's grandchildren held a special place in
her heart and her home was always open to
welcome their fun and laughter; she is going
to be missed. Her grandchildren are, Erica
(Scott) Shelton, Ashley (Ryan) Satterfield,
Andrew and Matthew Rowley and Clint (Samantha)
McIntyre; her great grandchildren are, Tyler
and Anniston Shelton, Bryce and Ava
Satterfield, Austin, Calista and Aidan
McIntyre, and another expected. Also surviving
are three brothers and three sisters, Don,
Ronnie and Bill Thomas, Betty Morrison and
Linda Barker, all of the Parkersburg area, and
Pat Reese in Florida.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by a son, Douglas; and a brother,
Larry Thomas.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg. Pastor Doug Guinn will be
speaking and burial will follow at Mt. Olivet
Cemetery. The visitation will be 4-7 p.m.
today at the funeral home.

Larry Wilson Derenberger
Parkersburg, WV

Larry Wilson Derenberger, 71, of Parkersburg,
passed away Jan. 31, 2015, at the Willows
Nursing Center.

He was born Feb. 16, 1943, in Parkersburg, the
son of Woodrow Wilson Derenberger and Ruby
Nettie McDonald Derenberger Shultz.

Larry had worked as a clerk with the U.S.
Postal Service and had served in the U.S. Army
during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by a few cousins and friends.

There will be no funeral service. However,
there will be a gathering of friends and
relatives at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth
St., Parkersburg, on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.
Cremation will follow and burial of his ashes
will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Betty Mae Vaughn Brown
Spider Ridge, WV

Betty Mae Vaughn Brown, 81, of the Spider
Ridge Community, passed away Jan. 29, 2015, at
her home.

She was born on Jan. 28, 1934, in Wood County,
a daughter of the late Arthur L. and Nellie E.
Frazier Vaughn.

Betty was of the Methodist Faith and had
worked in the office at the G.C. Murphy
Company for 31 years.

Surviving is one brother, Jack (Beverly)
Vaughn of Parkersburg; and five sisters,
Garnet Arbogast, Wilma (Harreld) Jeffrey, and
Helen Blosser, all of Parkersburg, Jean
(Robert) Murphy in Florida, and Lynn (Gerald)
Sims in Wyoming. Also surviving are several
nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband, Roy Edwin Brown on
Nov. 5, 2014; and two brothers, Jake Vaughn
and Lee Vaughn.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m.
today at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 5th Street
Parkersburg, with Mr. David Lake speaking.
Entombment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens.
The visitation will be from 12 Noon-2 p.m.
today at the funeral home.

The family would like to express thanks to
Amedysis Hospice and special thanks to her
caregivers, Donna, Tammy, Sharon M., Sharon
B., Niki, Carol, and Cindy.

Freda Marie Shepherd
Wellsburg, WV

Freda Marie (Greathouse) Price, Swain,
Shepherd, 93, of Wellsburg, W.Va., formerly of
the Parkersburg area, passed away Jan. 27,
2015, at the Valley Haven Nursing Home at
Beech Bottom, W.Va.

She was born on Dec. 17, 1921, in Roane
County, a daughter of the late Benjamin and
Zella A. Rogers Greathouse.

Freda was a long time member of the 14th
Avenue Gospel Mission Church and the Ladies
Guild.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews
including a special niece and caregiver, Peggy
Williams, of Windsor Heights, W.Va. In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in
death by her first husband, Myrlen Price; her
second husband, Richard Swain; her third
husband, Horace Shepherd; a brother, Denzil
Greathouse; and twin sisters, Martha Ann and
Mary Lou Greathouse, who died at birth.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.,
Friday, Jan. 30, at the 14th Avenue Gospel
Mission Church, with Pastor Tim Burch
officiating and burial will follow at the
Lubeck Cemetery. The visitation will be from
4-7 p.m. today at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 5th
Street, Parkersburg, and one hour prior to the
service on Friday at the church.
