Luella I. McConnell

Luella I. 'Dutchie' McConnell, 96, of Parkersburg, WV passed away Friday, March 4, 2005 at the Cedar Grove Nursing Facility.

She was born September 4, 1908 in Tyler County, WV, a daughter of the late R.V. and Grace M. Hall Ireland. Previously, Luella and her husband, Carl R. McConnell, who passed away in 1976, were self-employed with a business in glassware. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and was a member of the White Shrine/Eastern Star, all of Toledo, Ohio.

She is survived by her niece and her husband, Ruth V. and Shirley W. Reynolds, of Parkersburg, WV.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one nephew, Charles Ash; and three sisters, Clella Boice, Eleanor Earnhart and Agnes Godwin.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2005 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike Street, south Parkersburg, WV with the Reverend Tom Deane officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

John R. Slate

John R. Slate, 58, of Parkersburg, WV died Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at his residence.

He was born October 30, 1946 in Charleston, WV, a son of the late Joseph 'Ned' and Elizabeth Lancaster Slate.

John was a graduate of Marietta High School and Ohio State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree. He was a veteran of the Army Reserves, a member of the United Way board and was a Protestant by faith. He was the housing director and former finance director for the City of Parkersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Freeland Slate; one son, Justin Slate of the home; one sister, Sallie Raybould and husband, Lance, of Leesburg, FL; and two nephews, Matthew Raybould and wife, Brenda, of Jacksonville, FL and Edward 'Ned' Raybould of Columbus, OH.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2005 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike Street, south Parkersburg, WV with the Reverend Gene Hutton officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1:00 p.m. until time of services Sunday at the funeral home.

Clarence R. Joachim

Clarence Robert Joachim, 76, of Parkersburg, WV passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at his residence.

He was born February 15, 1929 in Parkersburg, a son of the late Eli and Ronnie Deem Joachim.

He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, class of 1948, and played Big Red basketball and baseball. He was a 1949 graduate of Coyne Electrical College in Chicago, IL. He worked as an electrician and was a member of the Local I.B.E.W. 968 for 39 years. Clarence was owner and operator of Betty Brite Cleaning Village since 1969. He was a longtime member of the Vienna Men's Golf Association, a member of Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge No. 3, Ben Bey Grotto, American Legion Post 15, VFW Post 1212 and the FOE Aerie 2307.

Clarence is survived by his wife of 51 years, Anna Riffle Joachim; one daughter, Kimberly Koreski and husband, E. Thomas, of Clarksburg, WV; two sons, Kevin Joachim of Houston, TX and Keith Joachim of Parkersburg, WV; one brother, Howard Joachim of Parkersburg, WV; one sister, Janet Myers of Port Charlotte, FL; and nine grandchildren, Michael and Anna Koreski, Ryan, Carmen, Kevin, Francis, Jacob, Anthony and Olivia Joachim.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2005 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, WV with Teddy Tackett officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 -4 and 6 -8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Richard Black

Richard Black, 81, of Vienna, WV passed away Saturday, February 26, 2005 at the Eagle Pointe Nursing Facility with his family by his side.

He was born April 25, 1923 in Parkersburg, WV, the son of the late Charles W. and Florence Lacey Black. He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army form 1943 to 1946 and in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 to 1952. He had worked for Coca-Cola of Parkersburg and was retired from Continental Can Co. of Midland, MI. He was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years and was a member of the Vienna Baptist Church.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Ernie Belt Black; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He will be missed by special friends, Cheryl, Sheri and Debbie and his special cats, Buffy and Cindy.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Black, and a brother, Robert Black.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Avenue, Vienna, WV with Pastor Dennis Pratt officiating. Burial will follow in the Parkersburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Vienna Baptist Church or the Humane Society of Parkersburg.

William P. McVay

William P. McVay, 52, of Walker, WV passed away Friday, February 25, 2005 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 17, 1952 in Covington, KY, a son of the late Warren and Stella Sparks McVay.

He was employed with Abco Transportation of Dade, FL and was a Baptist by faith. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran during the Vietnam Conflict.

Surviving is his wife, Teresa Crystaloski McVay, of Walker, WV; one son and his wife, Christopher and Aisha Savidge, and their daughter, Anna, all of Fayetteville, NC; one daughter and her husband, Jennifer and Andra Smith, and their children, Darius and Jabari, all of Germany; two brothers and their wives, John and Rita McVay and Mike and Candy McVay, all of Florida; one sister-in-law, Karen McVay, of Florida; and several nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dan McVay; and one sister, Diana Neal.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, WV with Dr. Harold W. Custer officiating. Friends may call from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Winifred B. Phillips

Winifred Brenda Phillips, 78, of Belpre, Ohio died Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg, WV.

She was born January 17, 1927 in Staffordshire, England, a daughter of the late Vincent and Ethel Thomas Jones. She was a homemaker who enjoyed knitting and was a member of the St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Belpre.

She is survived by one son, Michael Richards, of Lexington, KY; one brother, Peter Jones, of Parkersburg, WV; one grandson, Todd Richards, and his wife, Stephanie, of Williamstown, WV who is currently serving his country in the U.S. Army and stationed in Korea; one granddaughter, Kace Hogue, and her husband, John, of Marietta, OH; two great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and two nephews, Jeff Jones of Vienna, WV and Alan Jones of Williamstown, WV.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard Phillips, Jr.; and one brother, Vincent John Jones.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2005 at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Belpre, OH with Father David Huffman as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Little Hocking, OH. Friends may call from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the Tatman Funeral Home, 220 Main Street, Belpre, OH where Christian Wake services will be held 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Darrell H. Enoch

Darrell Hamilton Enoch, 91, of Vienna, WV died Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

He was born June 26, 1913 in Wirt County, WV to the late Edmund G. and Minnie Kathryn Hill Enoch. In 1929, Darrell and his family moved to Vienna. He attended Neale School and was a 1933 graduate of Parkersburg High School. He was employed at the American Viscose plant for 15 years, then Libby Owens Ford (Johns Manville) for 28 years, retiring in 1978 at the age of 65. He was also a member of the Junior OUAM. After retirement, Darrell enjoyed woodworking, vacationing with his family and continuing to watch the young children in Vienna participate in VRIA sports.

Darrel had been an avid sports fan all of his life. He played semi-professional baseball and softball for several years. He volunteered his time coaching, umpiring and working on the ball fields at both Jackson Park and Rosemar Road. Darrell was a board member of the Vienna Recreation and Improvement Association for more than 20 years. His greatest love was baseball, whether it was for recreation or watching the Reds and the Braves play. Darrell was recognized for his community involvement by receiving several honors and was named Grand Marshall of the Vienna United Appeal Parade in October, 1989. He was also a loyal fan of the Big Reds and WVU. Darrell was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Vienna.

In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Geraldine 'Gerry' Buck Enoch; one daughter, Linda McGuffey; and one son-in-law, John McGuffey.

He is survived by one sister, Aldena Dunlap; his children, Gary and his wife, Iris, Judy (Wheatley) and her husband, Steve, Susan (Carlton) and Mark and his wife, Elizabeth; his grandchildren and their spouses, Randy and Sue, Tracy and Hubie Lontz, Lori and John Shutt, Mike and Lisa McGuffey, Stephen and Debbie Wheatley, Merri Beth and Todd Wright, David Wheatley and Grayson Enoch; his great-grandchildren, Nikole and Bert Lontz, Erica and Jason Enoch, Skyler and Matthew Sellers, Alex and Katie Wright, Dylan, Katie, Rachel and Sarah McGuffey and Megan and Andrew McGuffey; and one great-great-granddaughter, Savannah. He is also survived by his dog, Rodney.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2005 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Avenue, Vienna, WV. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Connie S. Morris

Connie Sue Morris, 59, of Charleston, WV went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, February, 20, 2005 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, WV.

She was born in Charleston, WV, the daughter of Harold R. and Eileen Stevens Yoak of Parkersburg, WV. She was the marketing director for Buzz Food Service in Charleston, WV. She earned degrees form Mountain State College, Hocking Tech, Glenville State College and received her Master's Degree from Marietta College. She was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church in Charleston, WV where she served in the choir, played the organ and was active in the AWANA group for the youth. She was secretary for the Kanawha County Executive Committee of the Republican Party and was most recently elected to serve as Vice Chair.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 28 years, William M. Morris; one daughter, Rebecca, and her husband, Chris Voight, of Cincinnati, OH; two sons, Mark, and his wife, Missie Hussell, of Pt. Pleasant, WV and John and his wife, Rhonda Hussell, of Cottageville, WV; seven grandsons; one granddaughter; and a sister-in-law, Mary Sue Ritter, of Buckhannon, WV.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, WV with Pastor Bill Bartlett officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, Parkersburg, WV. Friends may call from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Pat Gilbert Blinn

Pat Gilbert Blinn, 72, of Vienna, WV passed away Thursday, February 17, 2005 at her residence.

She was born March 12, 1932 in Parkersburg, WV, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Fern Hefner Gilbert. She was a 1950 graduate of Parkersburg High School, a 1953 graduate of the St. Joseph's School of Nursing and had worked as a registered nurse.

Pat is survived by two sons, Thomas Blinn and his wife, Dina, of Parkersburg, WV and Tim Blinn and his wife, Kim, of Williamstown, WV; and three granddaughters, Marci, Jade and Sasha.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Blinn, in 1996; her twin brother, Dick Gilbert; one sister, Regina Gilbert; and one brother, Clyde Gilbert.

Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Housecalls Hospice, 1601 Garfield Avenue, Parkersburg, WV 26101.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Avenue, Vienna, WV.

Pauline Farmer

Pauline Farmer, 89, formerly of Belpre, Ohio passed away Thursday, February 17, 2005 at The Arbors in Marietta, Ohio.

She was born November 13, 1915 in Grundy, VA, a daughter of the late Walter and Sarah Akers Sheets. Pauline was a former cook at several Belpre area restaurants.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sondra and James Holbert, of Belpre, OH; and two granddaughters, Paula Betz of Belmar, NJ and Melissa Castelletti of Buffalo, NY.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Farmer; and a daughter, Twila C. Betz.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at Sunset Memory Gardens Chapel in Parkersburg, WV. There will be no visitation.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1218 Market Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Tatman Funeral Home, 220 Main Street, Belpre, Ohio.

David R. Jones

David Russell Jones, 48, of Walker, WV passed away Friday, February 18, 2005 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 21, 1956 in Parkersburg, WV, a son of Mary Louise Kidder Jones and the late Ira Daniel Jones. David was a 1975 graduate of Parkersburg High School, served in the U.S. Army and had worked several places, most recently as a contractor for friends and family. He was also an avid craftsman and loved fishing.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, Shawn David Jones, of Parkersburg, WV; his live in companion, Kimberly Wadesworth, and their daughter, Rebecca Jones, of Walker, WV; one brother, Dennis Earl Jones of Walker, WV; one sister, Donna Jean Hazlett, and her husband, Len Hazlett of Aurora, OH; and two nephews, Lenny and Justin Hazlett, both of Aurora, OH.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther C. Kidder and Mr. and Mrs. R.R. Jones.

Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday, February 20, 2005 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, WV. Burial will be in Evergreen South Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Virginia J. Smith

Virginia Jane 'Ginny' Smith, 54, died Monday, February 14, 2005 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

Ginny was born October 9, 1950 in Parkersburg, WV, a daughter of the late Robert W. and Bernice G. Smith Sheppard. She worked for several years with the Wood County Board of Education, was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Moose Lodge and was a member of Spreading Truth Ministries.

She is survived by one son, Richard 'Scooter' Sheppard of Belpre, OH; one daughter, Kelly Cunningham of Belpre, OH; one sister, Nancy S. Whitlatch and her husband, Hal, of Rockport, WV; a nephew, Herbert 'Herbie' Whitlatch of Rockport, WV; and a niece, Kristi Boston of Long Bottom, OH.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2005 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, WV with Pastor Joe Nelson and the Reverend Joseph S. Kenaston officiating. Interment will follow in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. There will be a dinner for family and friends at Spreading Truth Ministries, 1093 Core Road, Parkersburg, WV following the interment service.

In lieu of other remembrances, donations may be made to the Virginia Jane Smith Memorial Fund, c/o April Rogers or Mike Crossley, Huntington Bank, 429 Market Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101.

Walter F. Dornon, Sr.

Walter F. Dornon, Sr., 75, of Waverly, WV died Saturday, February 12, 2005 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg, WV.

He was born September 6, 1929 in Waverly, WV, a son of the late Francis Marion and Lula Gladys Marshall Dornon. He retired as a paint operator for Walker of Parkersburg after 26 years of service. He was a member of the Ogden United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the North America Hunting and Fishing Organization and he loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was also a NASCAR fan.

He is survived by three sons, Walter and Liz Dornon of Belpre, OH, Frank and Sherri Dornon of Waverly, WV and Bob and Shelly Dornon of Parkersburg, WV; six daughters, Nancy and Frank Sprouse of Parkersburg, WV, Carol and Ron Richardson of Rockingham, NC, Cindy and Mike Barnett of Waverly, WV, Diane and Blair Seigle of Smithfield, PA, DeeDee and Michael Eneix of Parkersburg, WV and Mary and Tony Eddy of Parkersburg, WV; twenty-four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Arlene Brock of Apopka, FL; and one brother, Thomas Dornon of Waverly, WV.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy Louella Cronin Dornon; one son, Daniel Russell Dornon; four grandsons; and four brothers.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike Street, south Parkersburg, WV with the Reverend John Barker officiating. Burial will be at Herndon Chapel Cemetery. Full military honors will be presented by Parkersburg Post 15 of the American Legion. Friends may call from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
