Lillian W. Hyre

Lillian Warren Robinson Hyre, 84, of Vienna, WV departed this life to her home in Glory on January 22, 2006, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

Lillian was born January 27, 1921, in Marshville, WV, the daughter of the late Charles Willoughby and Ada Mae Sandy Strother. She was very active in her church at Center Valley, Upshur County, WV before moving to Vienna, WV. She then joined Cornerstone Gospel Church in Vienna, WV and due to ill health she was unable to be as active as she would have liked to be. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Natural Bridge Homemakers Club in Carter, WV. She and her husband, Cecil, owned and operated Robinson's Grocery Store on Main Street and Clement Avenue in Belpre, Ohio for several years.

She is survived by her children, Tom and Gloria Robinson of Belpre, Ohio, Clarence and Barbara Robinson of Arapaho, Okla., Charles and Alice Robinson of Belpre, Ohio, Linda and Charlie Cutlip of Clarksburg, WV, Joe and Debbie Robinson of Belpre, Ohio, Donnie and Jo Ann Hyre of Buckhannon, WV, Cecil and Margit Hyre of Miami, Fla., Bud and Margaret Hyre of Hyattsville, Md., and Lora Slaughter of French Creek, WV; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by one brother, Frank L. Strother of Vienna, WV, and three sisters, Garnetta Jenkins of Marietta, Ohio, Arnetta Goodwin of Vienna, WV and Verona and her husband, Jr. Enoch of Vienna, WV.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil O. Robinson; her second husband, Gerald W. Hyre; her daughter, Mona Hyre Slaughter; an infant son, Larry L. Robinson; her brothers, Clyde, Larn, Adrian, Pete, Dewayne and Oral Strother; and two sisters, Evelyn Strother Williams and Helen Strother.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2006, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 2005 Grand Central Av. Vienna, WV. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg, WV. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and until time of services Thursday.

Zora P. Kittle

Zora Palmer Kittle, 96, formerly of Vienna, WV, passed away January 22, 2006, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. At the time of her death, she was residing with her son, Dr. Charles G. Kittle of Parkersburg, WV.

She was born November 20, 1909, in Jackson County, WV, a daughter of the late Grant and Ida Palmer. She was a member of the Vienna Baptist Church. During her lifetime, she worked at J.C. Penney in Parkersburg and was director of Verona Maple Hall at Glenville State College.

She is survived by her son, Charles G. Kittle of Parkersburg, WV; her stepdaughter, Shelia Schopmeyer of Texas; three sisters, Pauline Somerville of Palestine, WV, Virginia Balis of Sandyville, WV and Louise Hutchinson of Sandyville, WV; five grandchildren, Mark Hall of Charlotte, N.C., Brian Hall of Vienna, WV, Brenedah Holton of Columbus, Ohio, Ruth Stark of Colorado Springs, CO, and Charles P. Kittle of Parkersburg, WV; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, C. Claude Kittle; her second husband, J. Clair Kittle; her daughter, Bonnie Hall; son-in-law, Ivan Hall; and 12 brothers and sisters.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg, WV, with Rev. Nathan E. Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the Independence Cemetery in Sandyville, WV. Friends and relatives may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Betty L. Whitlatch

Betty L. Whitlatch, 78, of Parkersburg, WV passed away January 20, 2006, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of the Mineral Wells Baptist Church and a member of the PMBS Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her two daughters, Sue Dye and her husband, Don, of Little Hocking, Ohio and JoAnn Stanley of Williamstown, WV; six grandsons, Robbie Whitlatch of Florida, Christopher Newbanks and his wife, Paula, of Coxsackie, N.Y., Brian Newbanks and his wife, Stephanie, of Williamstown, WV, Rickie Whitlatch of Florida, Philip Newbanks and his wife, Amy of Vienna, WV and Chaz Dye of Little Hocking, Ohio; and five great-grandchildren, Randy, Cody and Grace of Williamstown, WV, Emily of Vienna, WV and Cassie of New York.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin E. Whitlatch; and her son, Richard M. Whitlatch.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Mineral Wells, WV, with the Rev. Claude Stevens officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., Parkersburg, WV.

Memorials may be made to the Mineral Wells Fire Department, P.O. Box 98, Mineral Wells, WV 26150.

Patricia A. Prentice

Patricia Ann Louk Butler Prentice, 62, of Parkersburg, WV passed away peacefully following a heroic battle with cancer January 20, 2006, at her residence.

She was born in Bergoo, Webster County, WV, a daughter of the late Clester W. and Mary Evelyn Barker Louk. She was retired from E.I. DuPont, Washington Works, and was an active member of North Parkersburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 11 years, Marlon G. Prentice; a daughter, Leanne Brown and her husband, Danny, of Parkersburg, WV, ; a son, Bill Butler and his wife, Melissa, of Manheim, Pa.; two grandchildren, Nicole Brown and John Butler; a brother, Charlie Louk and his wife, Patty, of Summersville, WV; six stepchildren; 18 step grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Louk.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at North Parkersburg Baptist Church, with Pastor Kent Boone officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave. Vienna, WV.

Charles N. Stephens

Charles Nelson Stephens, 92, of Maryfair House, Berryville, Virginia, died Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Virginia. He was formerly of Parkersburg, WV and Belpre, Ohio.

Mr. Stephens was born August 19, 1913, in Parkersburg to the late charles Woodruff and Mary Melrose Stephens. He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1931 and attended Mountain State Business College. He worked for Owens-Illinois in Charleston, WV and then moved to Parkersburg to work for Johns-Manville fiberglass division.

He married the late Kathleen Meredith on June 10, 1941. he was a member of the Masonic Temple in Parkersburg, WV. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting, reading and watching the boat traffic along the Ohio River.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter; a brother; and a sister.

He is survived by one daughter, Terry Zeman and her husband, Dwight, of Port Clinton, Ohio; and two sons, Stephen Stephens and his wife, Lisa, of Belpre, Ohio. He also is survived by eight grandchildren, Stacy (Stephens) Sefton, Christopher Zeman, Lynn (Zeman) Draigh, Shelley (Stephens) Pine, Sean Stephens, Allen Zeman, Mykala (Stephens) Sheppard and Madison Stephens; nine great-grandchildren, Meredith Zeman, Alexander Sefton, Rachel Sefton, Hannah Draigh, Jonathan Draigh, Liam Stephens, Ryan Stephens, Kathleen Pine and Peyton Salyers Zeman; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2006 at Tatman Funeral Home, 220 Main St. Belpre, Ohio. The funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg, WV. The Rev. William K. Dawson, pastor of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Berryville, Virginia will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Zeman, Allen Zeman, Christopher Sefton, Peter Draigh, John Pine and William Sheppard. Honorary pallbearer will be Sean Stephens.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Floyd A. Newell, Sr.

Floyd A. Newell, SR., age 62, of Walker passed away January 18, 2006 at his residence.

He was born February 12, 1943 in Wood County, a son of the late Crozier F. and Laura Ethel Green Newell. Floyd was a retired Army veteran and had worked at the Wood County Board of Education where he was a bus driver. He was a member of the Hope Free Will Baptist Church; a life member of the VFW 1006; a member of the Eagles; and a U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam.

Surviving is his wife of 41 years, Rebecca Wright Newell of Walker; one son, Floyd Award Newell, Jr. of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Dee Ann Elizabeth Richards of Fort Campbell, KY, and Cassandra Lynn Ayers of Ft. Knox, KY; three sisters, Edith Fitch of Bentleyville Little Washington, Pa., Opal Mather of Long Bottom, Ohio, and Hazel Newell of Parkersburg; and five grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Benjamin and Jacob.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the Hope Free Will Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wood County Schools Transportation Dept., Secret Santa Fund, c/o Dianna Davis @ Rt. 1 Box 196A Davisville, WV 26142.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted with Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Green St. Parkersburg, WV.

Virginia Harbison

Virginia Dale Harbison, 58, of Parkersburg, WV died January 15, 2006, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born in Clarksburg, WV, a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Gross.

Survivors include her husband, Gary C. Harbison; three sons, Gary W. Harbison of Marietta, Ohio, Jeffrey A. Harbison and his wife, Rosa of Walker, WV; a daughter, Sandra Waggoner and her husband, Steve, of Parkersburg, WV; two brothers, Robert Gross of Parkersburg, WV and Ronald Gross of Clarksburg, WV; a sister, Pauline Lancaster of Washington, WV; and eleven grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Charles Harbison; a brother; and a sister.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2006 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Green St. Parkersburg, WV, with Teddy Tackett officiating. Burial will be in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from noon until time of services Friday at the funeral home.

Lewis E. Hamrick, Sr.

Lewis E. Hamrick, Sr., 84 of Parkersburg, WV passed away January 17, 2006 at Camden- Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 12, 1921 in Newark, WV. Lewis was retired from Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital where he worked in the linen department; was a WW II Army veteran; and was a member of the Vienna Church of God.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Griffith Hamrick; one son, Lewis E. Hamrick Jr. of Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Melinda Dunaway of Reno, Ohio, William Bacorn of St. Mary's, WV, Brian and Shaun Bacorn both of Parkersburg, WV and Tammy Sue Bacorn of Marietta, Ohio; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler Yates of Reno, Ohio, Cheyne Bacorn of St. Mary's, WV, and Nicholas Bacorn of Parkersburg, WV.

Lewis was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Yates and Shaunna Bacorn; one grandson, Ralph Yates; two brothers, Bob Starcher and Okey Hamrick; and one sister, Goldie Hamrick.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2006 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Green St., Parkersburg, WV with Rev. Wesley Vernatter officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Cemetery in Reno, Ohio. Visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the services on Friday.

Christopher J. Martin, Jr.

Christopher Joseph Martin, Jr., 22, of Walker, WV died Thursday, January 12, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg, WV.

He was born November 30, 1983 in Wood County, WV, a son of Christopher Joseph Martin, Sr. of Walker.

Christopher was a carpenter by trade and worked for Nature Built Log Homes of Nashville, TN. He was a member of Hope Freewill Baptist Church in Parkersburg.

He is survived by his guardian mother, Vickie L. Boyles of Walker, WV; five brothers, Carl E. (Pete) Boyles, Jr. of Walker, WV, Michael Shawn Boyles of Parkersburg, WV, Jason Paul Boyles of Walker, WV, Matthew Shane Martin of Elizabeth, WV and Jon Eric Martin of Walker, WV; and two half-brothers, Ryan Martin and Myriah Martin, both of Walker, WV.

He was preceded in death by his guardian father, Carl E. Boyles, Sr.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2006 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike Street, south Parkersburg, WV with Pastor Buddy Corbin and the Reverend Kenneth Welch officiating. Burial will be in the Skidmore Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 - 5 and 7 - 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home.

Virgil B. Thomas

Virgil Burl Thomas, 79, of Parkersburg, WV passed away Thursday, January 12, 2006 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 19, 1926 in Wood County, WV, a son of the late Raymond and Alma B. Bower Thomas. Virgil was employed with the Wood County Board of Education where he was a bus driver until his retirement in 1989, and was the owner and founder of Thomas Lawnmower, which he started in 1956 and continued to work with his family. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Lodge No. 3 and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Madeline L. Crispin Thomas; two sons, Daniel B. Thomas and his wife, Vicky, of Parkersburg, WV and Terry W. Thomas of Mineral Wells, WV; two grandchildren, Stephanie R. Thomas and Jason D. Thomas, both of Parkersburg, WV; two brothers, Clare E. Thomas and his wife, Ramona, of Cleveland, OH and Richard L. Thomas and his wife, Lois, of Parkersburg, WV; two sisters, Jessie L. Allen and her husband, Darrell, and Dessie L. Romine and her husband, Will, all of Parkersburg, WV; one sister-in-law, Norma Thomas of Belleville, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence and Russell Thomas; infant brother, Clarence V. Thomas; and his nephew, Allen Thomas.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2006 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike Street, south Parkersburg, WV with the Reverend Brady Stephens officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen South Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday and one hour prior to services Sunday at the funeral home.
