George Predragovich

George Predragovich, 90, of Little Hocking, Ohio, passed away Jan. 21, 2009, at the Arcadia Nursing Center in Coolville, Ohio.

He was born July 10, 1918, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of the late Petar and Dorothy Trbuscic Predragovich.

George retired from the Laborers Union Local 1085 as a safety man for Willow Island. After his retirement, he worked for Ruble's Sternwheelers Incorporated as a deck-hand. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, an avid gardener, enjoyed growing flowers and spent time woodworking.

Survivors include his four daughters, Christine Ruble (David) of Belpre, Ohio Lisa Flowers (Andy) of Little Hocking, Ohio, Linda Keyser of Sarasota, Fla., and Rose Weckherlin of Florissant, Mo.; one son, George William Predragovich (Maureen) of Martins Ferry, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Mike Predragovich, Louie Predragovich, Steve Predragovich, Paul Predragovich and Sam Predragovich; and three sisters, Kathryn Forester, Eva Berardelli and Annie Crislip.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Dorothy Williams Predragovich; and two brothers, Nick Predragovich and Ivan Predragovich.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Boulevard, Belpre, Ohio with Pastor Gary Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mark Alan Hill

Mark Alan Hill, 43, of Parkersburg, passed away January 22, 2009 at his residence.

He was born, in Parkersburg, W.Va., on July 12, 1965, the only child of Martha Crawley Hill and the late Charles Raleigh Hill.

Mark graduated from Parkersburg South High School, Class of 1983. Received his teaching degree from Glenville/WVU-P in 1987 and taught special education in the Wood County School System until his disability retirement. He dearly loved his students and co-workers. He was a member of the Lubeck church of Christ.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three aunts, Mary Ann Fielder, Sharon Crawley and Shirley Hill; cousins, Charles, Paula, Tabitha and Eric Hill, Belinda, Mark, Rachel and Nathan Bargeloh, Patty and Hannah Hill, Sherry, John and Katelyn Riley, Michael and Janie Fielder, his very special friend, Ruth Lewis and others.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Raleigh Hill, and his grandparents, Robert and Kathleen Crawley and Charles E. and Eleanor Hill.

In accordance with Mark's wishes, his body will be cremated and there will be no visitation or funeral service.

He asked that friends and family consider remembering him through donations to the Humane Society of Parkersburg or simply by passing on everyday acts of kindness.

Gladys M. Vance

Gladys M. Vance, 80, of Elizabeth, W.Va., departed this life January 22, 2009 after a short illness.

She was born February 7, 1928 in Barberton, OH. She was married to the late Henry Vance and was a member of Church of Christ in Elizabeth, W.Va.

She is survived by two children, Sandra (Dave) Weekley of Elizabeth, W.Va. and Allen (Donna) Grishaber of Davisville, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Vincent and Michael Grishaber of Davisville, W.Va., Allen Grishaber Jr. and Brandy Taylor of Streetsboro, OH, Joe Knowles and Christy Knowles of Elizabeth, W.Va. and Rick Knowles of Whitsett, NC; and eight great-grandchildren.

At her request, she will be cremated and a private graveside service for the family.

Sandra A. Arthur

Sandra Anita Arthur, 57, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Jan. 17, 2009, at the St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born Dec. 5, 1951, in Calhoun County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Ted Freed and Ruby Goodnight and was a homemaker.

Sandra is survived by one son, Brian Keith Goodnight (Crystal) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two daughters, Ruby Diane Spellman and Ruth Ann Spellman, both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers; four sisters; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Charles Carothers of Parkersburg, W.Va. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va., with the Rev. Charlene Spaur officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodnight Cemetery, Calhoun County. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Linda Kay Matheny

Linda Kay Matheny, 66, of Vienna, passed away peacefully on Jan. 16, 2009, at the Cleveland Clinic after a long illness.

She was born Feb. 10, 1942, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Frank and Lucille Archer. She was a 1960 graduate of Parkersburg High School; was a member of the Vienna Ladies Auxiliary VFW; was known for her great sense of humor and love of animals, and was a Christian by faith.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Ellison of Raleigh, N.C.; sisters, Beverly (David) Habeb and Sharon (Edwin) Roberts of Parkersburg; one brother, Mike (Linda) Archer of Indiana; two grandchildren, Michael and Christian Ellison; and several nieces and nephews.

A candlelight service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, with Pastor Dennis Heater officiating. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family of Linda Kay Matheny. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.

G. Michael Mills

G. Michael Mills, 64, of Parkersburg passed away Jan. 16, 2009, at the St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born Dec. 26, 1944, in Parkersburg the son of George B. and Elsie I. Weaver Mills of Parkersburg. Michael was a 1963 graduate of Parkersburg Catholic High School, was a U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sergeant having served in the Vietnam War and was a member of the Grace Gospel Church of Pettyville.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, Christopher and Courtney; and four sisters and their husbands, Joyce and Dan Hurley of Michigan, Sue and Larry Curry of Milton, W.Va., Judy and Mike Waitkus of Texas and Pam and Leon Roberts of Texas.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, with Pastor Roger Benson officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery with full military rites by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2009, at the funeral home.

Charles Cecil Midkiff

Charles Cecil Midkiff, 93, of Vienna, died Jan. 16, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital after a short illness.

He was born Sept. 5, 1915, a son of the late Pearl and Doxie Buckalew Midkiff. He had been employed at Parkersburg Steel Mill, was retired from Union Carbide, and was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Vienna.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Fred Helms of Belpre; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Dottie Midkiff of Vienna; three grandchildren, Pamela Bichon, Lori Villella and Brenda Wetzel; two great-grandchildren, David Perdue and Kati Perdue; two sisters, Ginny Close and Barbara Scarbro; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marguerite K. Carney Midkiff in 1999; three brothers, George Midkiff, William Midkiff, and Melvin Dale Midkiff; and three sisters, Margaret Sands, Phyllis Stanley and Patty Cook.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, with Pastor Jim Yoak officiating. Interment will follow in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2009, at the funeral home.

Nancy L. Barnes

Nancy L. Barnes, 75, of Parkersburg, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009, at her residence. She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Thomas R. and Vena Shonick Morehead.

Mrs. Barnes was a homemaker and member of the 19th Street Church of God.

She is survived by two daughters, Jody Lott and Mandy Smith, both of Parkersburg; two sons, Michael L. Barnes of Parkersburg and Steven E. Barnes and wife Elizabeth of Parkersburg; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon P. Barnes; two brothers; and one sister.

Graveside services will be conducted 2PM Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg, with Reverend John Frum officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request expressions of sympathy be directed to Housecalls Hospice.

Irene Pearl Richards

Irene Pearl Richards, 88, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Jan. 15, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born July 10, 1920 in Parkersburg, W.Va., daughter of the late Roy S. and Pearl L. Harmon Doss. Irene was the oldest member of the 19th St. Church of God and was very active having taught Sunday school for 45 years. She was a homemaker and an avid reader.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda L. Dailey (Wilmer) and Beverly J. Sprouse (Robert) all of Spring Hill, TN; two sons, Larry H. Richards (Ruth) of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Jeff W. Richards (Donna) of Davisville, W.Va.; a sister, Edna Golden of Belpre, Ohio; and a brother, Roy S. Doss of Belpre, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harley H. 'Hughie' Richards; a daughter, Dora L. Daley; a brother, Gale Doss Sr.; and a sister, Velma Jones.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2009 at the 19th St. Church of God with Pastor Randall Fuson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg, WV and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Jerry R. McClain

Jerry R. McClain, 67, of Torch, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2009 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

He was born on February 21, 1941 in Millfield, Ohio and graduated from Bartlett High School in 1959. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963 - 1965 in the Vietnam era, during which he spent some time in Germany.

Jerry worked hard all of his life. He worked at A.B. Chance for 29 years, and then went to O'Ames where he worked for 11 years until he retired in 2006. Jerry loved being outdoors. He could always be found working in his yard, he liked planting flowers, and he always kept his grass mowed just a certain way. He also liked spending time in his garage fixing things or even just messing around. In the summer he always had a garden that he spent many hours in--he really liked food from his garden. He enjoyed visiting with old friends he had worked with through the years. Jerry could always be counted on to help family or friends whenever they needed him. When able, he attended Torch Baptist Church during which time he became good friends with Pastor Richard Runion.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mable; one son Jerry Ray McClain and his wife Melissa of Hockingport, Ohio; one daughter, Selena L. Knight and her husband Michael of Parkersburg, W.Va.; five grandchildren Brett and Tyler McClain, Ashley, Logan, and MaKenzie Knight; three sisters, Doris Jean DeVore of Belpre, Ohio, Judy Alkire and her husband Roy of Marietta, Ohio and Janice McClain of Cutler, Ohio; four brothers, Thomas McClain, Robert McClain, David McClain all of Cutler, Ohio and Albert A. McClain, Jr. and his wife Cathy of Vincent, Ohio, mother-in-law, Virginia Mullins of Huntington, W.Va., and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents the late-Albert A. and Glady Burnem McClain, an infant son Roosevelt R. McClain, and one sister Donna McClain.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 1305 Washington Blvd. Belpre, Ohio, with Pastor Richard Runion officiating. Burial will follow at the Graham Chapel in Shade, Ohio. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services on Monday.

Patricia L. 'Pat' Montgomery

Patricia Lou 'Pat' Montgomery, 71, of Parkersburg, went home to be with the Lord, January 15, 2009 at her residence.

She was born Feb. 17, 1937 in Plain City, OH, a daughter of the late George Edison and Dorothy Eloise Yoho Ahart.

Patricia was a homemaker and worked at St. Joseph's Hospital for 23 years as a Phlebotomist. She was a member of the 14th Avenue Gospel Mission Church.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Clinton John Montgomery, three daughters, Nancy (Kenny) Metz of Parkersburg, Bonnie (Donald) McLaughlin of Davisville, W.Va., and Donna Crist of Canal Winchester, OH; one son, John Montgomery of Parkersburg, seven grandchildren, Michael Montgomery, Adam (Tammy) Montgomery, Matthew (Sarah) McLaughlin, Alicia (John) Stellwagen, Ashley McLaughlin, Amy McLaughlin and Emily Montgomery; one step-grandchild, Brian (Jessica) Metz; two great-grandchildren, Riley Dawn McLaughlin and Audrey Moon Montgomery; and step-great-grandchildren, Brittany Metz and Brody Metz.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Nolan, one brother, Jim Ahart, an infant sister and a son-in-law, Dennis Crist.

Funeral services will be Monday, Jan.19, at 11:00 AM at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St, south Parkersburg with the Pastor Tim Burch and Bill Ahart officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Saturday, Jan. 17 and 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Sunday, Jan.18, at the funeral home.

Anna F. Vance

Anna F. Vance, 81, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Jan. 12, 2009, at the Worthington Manor Nursing Facility.

She was born Dec. 13, 1927, in Wood County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude Miller DeVaughn. Anna was a homemaker, enjoyed knitting and was an avid quilter.

She is survived by one son, Richard "Rick" Sams and wife, Cheryl, of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one daughter, Martha Cochran of Parkersburg, W.Va.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Howard and Carl DeVaughn of Palestine, W.Va.

Iin addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Vance; two sisters, Mary Watkins and Violet DeVaughn; and two brothers, Charles and Forrest DeVaughn.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, W.Va., with the Rev. Jen Nolan and the Rev. Carl DeVaughn officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Wilton H. 'Buck' Buchanan, Jr.

Wilton H. 'Buck' Buchanan, Jr., 78, of Washington, W.Va., died Jan. 14, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Amigo, W.Va., on January 19, 1930, to the late Wilton H. and Mary Alice Peters Buchanan. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, W.Va., and was also a graduate of the University of Maryland.

He lived in Beckley, W.Va. until enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1951. He served in the U.S.A.F. for 22 years. He was Maintenance Chief for the U.S.A.F. Thunderbirds from 1963 to 1965. He was employed by the U.S. Government at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA for 10 years.

Buck was a member of the U.S.A.F. Thunderbird Alumni, member of the Masonic Lodge, F&AM; of Okinawa, Japan. He was an active member of North Parkersburg Baptist Church, serving Wednesday night suppers, working with the Heavenly Helpers and the First Impressions Team. He was also active in the Tool Timers where he, along with dear friend, Neil Bee (deceased) built props for many years for the Singing Christmas Tree.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Marge Burford; two daughters and their husbands, Vickie & Lynn Wilson of Surprise, AZ and Cathy & Mike Scarbrough of Forest Hill, CA; three granddaughters, Kristen Zipp and husband, Garrett of Roseville, CA, Jennifer Scarbrough of Lincoln, CA and Ashley Troy of Brooklyn, NY; his sister and her husband and sons, Betty and Jim Stone and Chris Stone, all of Lowell, OH and Kelly Stone and wife, Tonje of Norway; four brothers and sisters-in-laws and their families, Zach Burford of Hubbard, OH, Barbara and Ben Bane of Crab Orchard, W.Va., Ann and David Neal of Crossville, TN and Lewis and Arlea Burford of Newbury, OH; his close friends, Fred and Joyce Cross of Mineral Wells, W.Va., David and Lydia White of Parkersburg, W.Va. and his church family of North Parkersburg Baptist Church.

The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Roger Anderson, Dr. Tony Byler and the nurses and staff of Division G at Marietta Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care and concern in his final days.

At his request, there will be no visitation or funeral services. His body will be cremated. Arrangements are by Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home in south Parkersburg. Memorials may be made to North Parkersburg Baptist Friendship Kitchen, 3109 Emerson Ave., Parkersburg, WV 26104.

Harold Porter Collins

Harold Porter Collins, 75, of Mineral Wells, passed away Jan. 11, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 31, 1933, in Williamsburg, W.Va., a son of the late John W. and Susie Decker Collins.

Porter graduated from Williamsburg High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a corporal in the 82nd Airborne. He came to Mineral Wells in 1963, working with the I-77 bridge crew. He also worked for Carl Profitt Trucking, Rish Equipment Co., and retired from City Beer Distributing. He loved to travel and fish, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Lee Williams Collins, whom he married in December 1955; two daughters and son-in-laws, Dolores "Shorty" Clegg and husband, John, of Parkersburg and Darleen Board and husband, Brad, of Mineral Wells; four granddaughters, Michele, Vanessa, Tiffany and Misty and husband, Jordan; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard W. Collins; and two sisters, Mary Louise Burge and Wanda Ramsey.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg, with the Rev. Kevin Lantz officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the funeral home.
