Priscilla M. Newbanks

Priscilla M. Newbanks, 57, of Mineral Wells, W.Va. passed away Jan. 11, 2009 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born Nov. 19, 1951 in Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter of Flora M. Sheppard Harper of Parkersburg and the late Cecil C. Harper. Priscilla was a cook for the Wood County Schools for 11 years and was a past member of the Merrill Chapel Church.

In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband of 34 years, Frank Newbanks; two sisters, her twin sister, Patricia Pack of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Karen Mathews and husband, Bobby of Scottsville, KY; one brother, Steve Harper and wife, Lori of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a nephew, Jesse Harper of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; a niece, Serena Dampier of Georgia; and several other nieces and nephews.

Priscilla was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Joe Harper.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Roger Parson officiating. Services will conclude with burial at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Faye Marie Kemp

Faye Marie Kemp, 78, of Williamstown, W.Va., lost her battle with cancer on Jan. 11, 2009.

She was born in Glennwood, W.Va., a daughter of the late Glen and Ione Alkire Dille. She retired in 1992 from Forma Scientific Inc., was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Marietta, Ohio and was a Baptist by faith.

Faye is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Roger) Phillis of Williamstown, W.Va. and Dorothy Miller and Susan Evans, both of Marietta, Ohio; three sons, Robert (Dora) Marshall of New York, Joey Marshall of Marrtown, W.Va., and Rex (Dee) Marshall of Davisville, W.Va.; one brother, Ted Dille of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Kemp; two sons, Danny and Dale Marshall; and one granddaughter, April Marie Marshall.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va., with the Rev. Dr. William R. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Cheryl Ann Conner

Cheryl Ann Conner, 55, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Jan. 9, 2009, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.

She was born March 26, 1953, a daughter of Peggy Boyce Polan of Blandville, W.Va., and the late Clinton Polan. Cheryl graduated from St. Mary's High School. She was a homemaker, and active with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Cheryl was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Parkersburg, where she was a member of the Women's Relief Society.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Thomas M. Conner; a daughter, Jennifer Conner of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two sons, Karl Conner (Amanda) of Morehead City, N.C., and Thomas Conner (Amanda) of Vienna, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Chelsea Lynn Conner and Kane Conner; four brothers, Kermit Polan of Ohio, Marvin Polan of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Craig and Kevin Polan of Blandville, W.Va.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2009 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in south Parkersburg with Bishop Mark Long officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen South Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike Street, Parkersburg, W.Va. and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Sharon J. Chancellor

Sharon J. Chancellor, 66, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away Thursday, January 8, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born in Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter of John Williams and the late Dessie Cantwell Williams. She had worked in Nutritional Services at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Sharon is survived by three children, one daughter, Kelly Brookover of Parkersburg; two sons, Doug Chancellor of Vienna and Patrick Chancellor of Parkersburg; one brother, Steven W. Williams; three grandchildren, Joshua, Alyssa and Sierra Chancellor; and one great granddaughter, Chloe Chancellor.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Earl Chancellor, on July 2, 2005.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Avenue, Vienna, W.Va. The family will receive visitors from 2 p.m. until time of services Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3901 Briscoe Road, Parkersburg, WV 26101.

Garland A. Lewis

Garland A. Lewis, 97, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Jan. 7, 2009 at his residence.

He was born March 10, 1911 in Wirt County, W.Va., the son of the late Alonzo and Linnie Montgomery Lewis. Garland was a member of the Southeastern Evangelistic Association and attended Calvary Memorial Church. He retired from Walker/Parkersburg Co. as a welder after 40 years of service.

Garland is survived by his wife of 73 years, Hazel Houck Lewis; four children, son, Paul D. Lewis (Vicky) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; daughters, Carole Craig of Belpre, Ohio; Margaret Yarrington of Kettering, Ohio and Rebecca Lister (Skip) of Cincinnati, Ohio; five grandchildren, Alex and Alan Craig, Jeff Lister, Karen Gabriel, and Yeric Yarrington; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell, Shirley, and John Lewis; and three sisters, Nancy Parsons, Augusta Thompson, and Flossie Webb.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Rob Collins officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen South Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Albert H. (Al) Schlag

Albert H. (Al) Schlag, 85, passed away on Jan. 5, 2009, in Denton, Texas, after an extended illness and complications of a recent surgery.

He was born on May 4, 1923, in Wheeling, W.Va., the son of Eva Atkinson and Albert Schlag.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jane Miller Schlag; a son, Edward Jay Schlag; and a granddaughter, Heather Schlag.

He is survived by a son, Ray Schlag of Corinth, Texas; and granddaughters, Brooke Schlag of Venice, Fla., Miranda Branscome of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Melanie Lancaster of Columbia, S.C.

Al was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Vienna, W.Va. and was a Vienna resident for over 40 years. He spent his business career in the banking and commercial credit industry and retired from Commercial Banking & Trust Co. (WesBanco Bank Inc.) after over 20 years of service. He enjoyed working with and participating in community organizations, including the Vienna Lions Club, The Parkersburg Elks Chapter, and was a founding member of the Friends of Blennerhassett Island Museum and Gift Shop.

After retirement from Commercial Bank in 1988, Al continued to work part time for the bank and spent his leisure time traveling and enjoying card and domino games with his many friends and business associates. He remained active in the St. Michael Catholic Church Men's Group until he moved in Texas in October 2005.

Al's greatest blessings in life were his loving wife, Jane; his sons and grandchildren; and the many wonderful friends he made through his life's journey.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Vienna, W.Va. with Father Steve Joseph as celebrant. Al's son, Ray, will receive friends starting at 6:00 p.m. Friday, with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. and visitation concluding at 8:00 p.m. at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va.

Freda Baird Sheets

Freda Baird Sheets, 78, of Vienna, W.Va., went to be with her Lord and Savior, January 6, 2009 at her residence.

She was born September 19, 1930 in Roane County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Charles Ellison and Rosa Hardman Ellison Gandee.

Freda retired from Nashua Photo and formerly worked at Darling Dress Shop and Ormonds Dress Shop. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and attended South Parkersburg Baptist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, V.F.W., and the American Legion. She was a member of the Woodmen of the World Degree of Honor, The Red Hat Society/Red Diamond Flinderation, Wood County Tea Party, Wood County Democratic Women's Club, and the Camden-Clark Life-Time Partners.

Surviving are her beloved children, Melody Baird Mason of Parkersburg, W.Va., Robin (Sheets) Davis and husband, Stuart of Washington, W.Va., and John Kevin Baird of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one sister, Murl Romine and husband, Kenna of Hurricane, W.Va.; grandchildren, Amber Mason, Ashley Lott, Justin Baird, Morgan Davis, and Carly Davis; great-grandchildren, Mason 'Little Guy' Cyran and his twin brother and sister coming in March.

In addition to her parents, Freda was preceded in death by her first husband, John E. Baird; sisters, Azeline Jeffreys, Josephine Lockhart, Ruth Riel, and Iva Dare Fields; brother, Earl Gandee, and former husband, William Sheets.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Joe Busch officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday and two hours prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

A special thanks to Dr. Dori Rajan, Terry, Michelle, and staff; hospice, and her many friends.

Bernard D. Pearce

Bernard D. Pearce, 75, of Belpre, Ohio, passed away Jan. 4, 2009, at the Genesis Health and Rehabilitation, McConnellsville, Ohio.

He was born Jan. 23, 1933, in Bowling Green, Ohio, a son of the late Stanley and Dorotha Katzenmeyer Pearce.

Mr. Pearce retired after owning and operating his own upholstery store, Hoffman's Interior. He enjoyed gardening and was a US Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.

He is survived by one son, Jonathon Jay Pearce and wife, Tamie, of Belpre, Ohio ; one daughter, Angelique Ann (Pearce) Pierce and husband, Michael, of Broomfield, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Suzanne M. (Pearce) Seldess and husband, Zachary, Christopher C. Pearce and wife, Rachel, Brian D. Pearce, Jason E. Pierce and wife, Valerie, Charity S. Pierce, Benjamin D. Pierce, and Hannah K. Pierce; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter J. Pierce and Noah E. Pierce.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Mae (Braman) Pearce in November 2008; an infant daughter; and two brothers, Wayne W. and Eugene R. Pearce.

Private arrangements were made by his family at his request.

Lola Jean Crouser

Lola Jean Crouser, 78, of Belpre, Ohio, passed away after a battle with cancer on Jan. 3, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born Oct. 25, 1930, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Joseph M. and Velcie Florence Walker Fuller. Jean was a 1949 graduate of Belpre High School. She was a devoted wife and mother.

She is survived by her daughters, Beverly Ann Crouser of Belpre, Ohio, Kimberly Kay Masters of Coolville, Ohio and Tammy Jean Coe and husband, Daniel Thomas Coe, of Fleming, Ohio; a son, Donald Wayne Crouser of Belpre, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Kathy Wolfe Crouser of Fleming, Ohio; a nephew she loved as a son, William Henry Patterson of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; nieces, Velcie Zoeitsa Zegrea of Marietta, Ohio and Hazel Ann Stanley of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Seth E. Crouser, Zachery W. Crouser, Danielle E. Coe, Clayton B. Coe and Mary Kay Milliken; and two great-grandchildren, Abbey and Alex Milliken.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 loving years, Donald E. Crouser; a son-in-law, Richard F. Masters; and a sister, Velcie June Caplinger.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 1305 Washington Blvd. Belpre, Ohio, with Pastor Ralph Tisdale officiating. Burial will follow in Rockland Cemetery in Belpre. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Emily J. Clark

Emily J. Clark, 63, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Jan. 5, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Williamstown, W.Va., a daughter of the late Welland C. and Freda L. Taylor Bower. She had worked at Kroger, was a very dedicated member of Spreading Truth Ministries Church, was an accomplished musician and played for various gospel groups.

Emily is survived by family that she loved very much, her husband, Marion Lee Clark; one daughter, Sherri K. Dean (John) of Rockport, W.Va.; one son, Forrest David Clark (Julie) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Kaleb A. Dean, Derek D. Clark and Rachel E. Sheppard; one sister, Polly A. Dearth of Little Hocking, Ohio; one brother, David J. Bailey of Vienna, W.Va.; very special niece, Gina M. Ritchie (Blaine); special sister, Betty Lou Hunt of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Henry N. Norman; and one sister, Emezetta J. Ball.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Ralph Tisdale and Pastor Joe Renforth officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen North Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Marcia A. Vore

Marcia Ann Casto Vore, 59, of Parkersburg, passed away on January 2, 2009 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 20, 1949 in Parkersburg, a daughter of Billy Wayne Casto of Ohio and the late Stella Mae Watson Casto. She was employed at the Department of Health and Human Resources, a member of Southern Baptist Church on Gihon Rd. and loved birds, bears, planting flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Marcia is survived by her husband of forty-one years, Bruce Vore; one daughter, Sherry (Randy) Eagle of Parkersburg; two sons, David (Lori) Vore and Mark (Sandy) Vore, both of Parkersburg; two sisters, Tina Marie (Michael) Gilbert and Kay (Jim) Gray, both of Parkersburg; grandmother, Hazel B. Johnson of Parkersburg; ten grandchildren; and her special bird, Baby.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her grandfather, Minor H. Johnson.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St, south Parkersburg with Rev. Paul Drake and Pastor Doug Guinn officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11AM until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Sally C. Miller

Sally Corley Miller, 89, of Parkersburg passed away January 2, 2009 at the Eldercare Nursing Facility in Ripley.

She was born February 21, 1919 in New Martinsville, WV, a daughter of the late Robert O. and Hazel Kiger Corley. Sally was a 1937 graduate of Parkersburg High School and had previously worked as a receptionist for local doctor offices and worked in the office for volunteers at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by her two sons, William R. Miller of Parkersburg and Wendell C. (Mikki) Miller of Dalton, Massachusetts; three grandchildren, Ryan and Eric Miller both of New York City and Wendy (Dan) Spalinger of Windham, N.H.; and one great-grandson, Jacob Spalinger.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Miller in 1961.

Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 7, 2008, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Green St., Parkersburg with graveside services to follow at the Evergreen North Cemetery with Jim Lynch officiating.

Virginia Mae Sprague

Virginia Mae Sprague, 75 of Washington, WV., passed away January 3, 2009 at her residence.

She was born June 5, 1933 in Wood County, a daughter of the late Vernon Murphy and Virginia Daggs Armstrong. Virginia was retired from Sears; was a homemaker; and a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by her two daughters, Vicki Elizabeth Sprague and Penny Mae Nichols both of Washington, WV. and two brothers, Robert (Sharon) Armstrong and James (Inell) Armstrong all of Lubeck.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Granville William 'Bill' Sprague in 2004; three children, William David, David Wayne, and Patricia Ann Sprague; and one brother, Gary Wayne Murphy.

Private family services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
