James T. 'Jimmy' Deem

James Todd 'Jimmy' Deem, 66, of Davisville, received the greatest gift of all on December 25, 2008 when he went home to be with his Lord and Savior at The Willows Health Care of Parkersburg.

He was born December 31, 1941 in Wood Co., a son of the late James and Mary Linger Deem. He was retired from Ames Co. after 38 years of service as a truck driver. He loved playing the guitar and the piano and enjoyed playing gospel, bluegrass and county music. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family. He was a member of Davisville Community Chapel.

James is survived by his wife, Barbara Mae (Peck) Deem; one daughter, Barbie (Jeff) Cottrell; two sons, Bobby (April) Deem of Houston, TX and Barry (Beth) Deem of Washington, WV; three brothers, Bill Deem of Parkersburg, Bud Deem of Smithville, WV and Barry Deem of Washington, WV; and six grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Deem and one brother, Benny Deem.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 29, at 11:00 a.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg with Pastor Ray Seabaugh and Rev. Joe Renforth officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28 at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Ann Drain

Elizabeth Ann Drain, 86, of Parkersburg, passed away at her residence on December 21, 2008.

She was born August 29, 1922, a daughter of the late Clarence and Estelle Johnson Smith. She was a homemaker and attended Pleasant View Baptist Church.

Elizabeth is survived by three daughters, Polly (Stan) Kracher of Palmdale, CA, Nancy (Jim) Hinman of Fresno, CA and Mary E. Durkee of Dixon, TN; three sons, Edward (Sharon) Drain and Doug Drain, both of Parkersburg, and Kenneth (Maura) Drain of Arcadia, CA; one brother, Kermit Smith of Parkersburg; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Marion E. Drain, in July, 2000; one brother, Donald Smith; and two sisters, Madlyn Smith and Marilyn Carther.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 24, at 9:30 a.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg with Pastor Loyd Winans and Pastor Jerry Caplinger officiating. Family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at a later date.

Virginia Dare Brooks Carney

Virginia Dare Brooks Carney, 90, a long time resident of Vienna, W.Va., currently residing at Cedar Grove Personal Care, passed away December 20, 2008 at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 25, 1918 in Jackson County, W.Va., a daughter of the late O.A. and Geneva Kessell Brooks. Virginia was retired from the Vienna Public Library. She was an avid reader and loved playing scrabble. She was a member of the Vienna Senior Citizens Association and the Womens Democrat Club. She was a graduate of Ripley High School and also a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, Vienna.

She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Goodwin and husband Ronald of Vienna, W.Va., Colleen Gumm and husband Derrell of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Carole Anderson of LeMoyne PA; six grandchildren, Kelly Legg of Bowling Green OH, Kara Stauffer of Vienna, W.Va., Joel Anderson of Lykens PA, Bruce Anderson of Lancaster PA, Eric Gumm of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Andrea Moore of Vienna, W.Va.; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard R. Carney in 1986; three brothers; and one sister.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2008, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va., with Reverend Earle Arthur officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairplains Cemetery, Jackson Co., W.Va. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Monday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vienna Public Library, 2300 River Rd., Vienna, WV, 26105.

Lottie "Lucy" Thomas

Lottie Lucinda 'Lucy' Thomas, 93, of Watkinsville, GA, passed away December 16, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, GA.

She was born March 23, 1915 in Ohio, a daughter of the late Reuben Al and Artie Mae Hoffman Rickard. She was a wife and mother who enjoyed crocheting, reading, sewing and her family. She taught ceramics, baked and traveled extensively. She was a Methodist by faith.

Lottie is survived by two sons, Gary K. (Rebecca) Thomas of Demerest, GA, and Monte R. (Carol) Thomas of Watkinsville, GA; two daughters, Sharon Derski of Disputana, VA and Judy (Hunter) Earhart of Stuart Draft, VA; one brother, James (Marie) Rickard of Albany, OH; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Thomas of south Parkersburg; ten grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Carl 'Ray' Thomas in 1997, son-in-law, John Derski, seven sisters and three brothers.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 20, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg with the Pastor Rick Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday, Dec. 19 at the funeral home.

Susan L. Wiggins

Susan L. Wiggins, 67, of Parkersburg, passed away Dec. 14, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, WV.

She was born July 25, 1941 in Indiana and was employed at Public Debt for over 35 years. She enjoyed working with the deaf, doing tax preparation for others, spending time with her grandchildren and reading.

Susan is survived by two daughters, Ellen Payne and her partner, Jerry Nutter of Walker, WV and Evelyn L Casto and her husband Dan of Ravenswood, WV; one son, Matthew Wiggins of Parkersburg; one sister, Nancy Rimer of Oklahoma; two brothers; one nephew, Glen Rimer of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren, Lacey Reynolds Payne and John Aaron Payne.

She was preceded in death her husband, John R. Wiggins, in 2006.

At Susan's request, cremation services have been entrusted to Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg. A memorial service to celebrate Susan's life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at1:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Todd Hill officiating. Family will receive friends from noon to 1 PM prior to the service.

Carolyn Summers

Carolyn Summers, 82, of Belpre, Ohio passed away on Dec. 14, 2008, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 6, 1926, in Syracuse, Kan., a daughter of the late George Russell and Alta Schroll.

Carolyn was owner and operator of her own beauty shop in Kansas and enjoyed rock collecting. She was a lifetime member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Veteran of Foreign Wars.

She is survived by her husband, Keith A. Summers; two daughters, Phyllis Harmon of Sunbury, N.C., and Marcia Reid of Trenton, Mo.; three sisters, Phyllis (Kenneth) Feaster of Kansas City, Mo., Eleanor Cole of Wichita, Kan., and Saxon McClelland of Seattle, Wash.; five grandchildren, Karen (Tom) Harding of Ridgeway, Mo., Kimberly Cottrell of Trenton, Mo., Bernard N. Harmon Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., Susan Harmon of Harrisonburg, Va., and Justin Harmon of Sunbury, N.C.; three great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Quinlan Cottrell.

Shirley Jean Wingrove

Shirley Jean Wingrove, 65, of Belpre, Ohio passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at her residence.

She was born July 30, 1943, in Belpre, OHio a daughter of the late Jess and Stella Keith Bonar.

She was a homemaker and retired from Belpre Kroger after 25 years of service. She enjoyed tractor pulling, was a member of the National Tractor Puller's Association and the Ohio State Tractor Pullers. Shirley enjoyed NASCAR and reading.

She is survived by her husband, Carroll Lee Wingrove, whom she married June 1, 1962; one daughter, Pam Davis and husband, Keith, of Stockport, Ohio; one son, Carroll Lee Wingrove Jr. and, wife, Diane of Belpre, Ohio; three grandchildren, Leeann Davis and Justin and Jessica Wingrove; and one brother, Albert Bonar of Belpre, Ohio.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Delbert Bonar.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 1305 Washington Blvd. Belpre, Ohio with Pastor Sam Edgell officiating. Burial will be at the Veto Cemetery at Veto, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Homer C. Whited

Homer C. Whited, 92, of Vienna, W.Va., went home to his Lord Dec. 14, 2008 at Camden Clark Hospital.

He was born in Jackson County, W.Va., a son of the late Wells Wellington and Corda Mae Baker Whited. He was retired from Union Carbide with 36 years of service; enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and golf. He served with the Civilian Conservation Corps from April 1934 until April of 1936 at both Camp North Fork in Petersburg, W.Va. and Camp Little Fork, in Sugar Grove, W.Va. During WW II he served with the US Navy aboard the cargo vessel USS Tattnall from April of 1943 until April of 1946. His ship was part of the European Theater sailing off the coast of North Africa.

Homer is survived by seven children, Jerry Whited (Pat) of Havre de Grace, Md., David Whited (Darelene) of Parkersburg, W.Va., Richard Whited (Sue) of Washington, W.Va., Mila Combs (David) of Reedsville, Pa., Jean Goodwin (Carl) of Vienna, W.Va., Randy Whited and friend Helen McCray of Vienna, W.Va. and Priscilla Whited and companion Mitch Stockdale of Vienna, W.Va.; one foster son, Jay Balser of Elizabeth, W.Va.; one sister, Lucille Reed of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one brother, Howard Whited of Vienna, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Armeda Enoch Whited of 39 years; second wife, Vivian Spencer Whited of 19 years; one daughter, Charlene K. King; one grandson, Bryan M. Whited; and one brother, Harry Whited.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. with Rev. H. Earle Arthur and Rev. Norman Butler officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 1. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services Thursday.

Memorial contribution may be made to Housecalls Hospice, Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital Foundation, or the St. John United Methodist Church.

Phyllis Mae Connolly

Phyllis Mae Connolly, 61, of Davisville, W.Va., passed away on Dec. 14, 2008, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 31, 1947, a daughter of the late Davis Blair Buzzard Sr. and Genevieve Cross Buzzard in Wood County, W.Va. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing and making crafts. She was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Dallison, W.Va., where she was the church treasurer.

She is survived by her husband, Roy E. Connolly Jr.; one son, Stacey L. Connolly and his wife, Lynn, of Vienna, W.Va.; one sister, Debbie Duley; two brothers, David Blair "Bud" Buzzard Jr. of Davisville, W.Va. and Michael Blackwood of Korea; and one granddaughter, Gillian Connolly of Vienna, W.Va.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with the Rev. Basil Barr officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Clara "Lucille" Miller

Clara "Lucille" Miller, 88, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Dec. 14, 2008 at Eagle Pointe.

She was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Wayne County, Tenn., a daughter of the late Benjamin and Bessie Osburn Hughes.

She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the South Parkersburg Baptist Church and worked in the nursery.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Troy L. Miller; two sons, Troy L. Miller Jr. and his wife, Anita, of Vienna, W.Va. and Gordon M. Miller and his wife, Leslie, of Parkersburg, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Angela Harper and Trina Poling, both of Parkersburg, W.Va., Carissa Miller of Vienna, W.Va., and Vanessa Miller of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Cyan and Jade Poling of Parkersburg, W.Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother; and one sister.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Joe Busch officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends from 2J:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Karen Sue Simpson

Karen Sue Simpson, 57, of Walker, W.Va., died Dec. 13, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born Sept. 11, 1951 in Wood County, W.Va., the daughter of Joseph Swearingen and the late Ruth Galloway Swearingen.

She is survived by her father; her children, Grace Ridenour of Indiana, Eltina Hughes of Indiana, Kathy Starcher, Mary Brand, Billie-Lee Simpson, and William Simpson all of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and 12 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Private family burial will be at the Oddfellows Cemetery, Walker, W.Va. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg.

Barbara G. Sawyer

Barbara G. Sawyer, 59, of Parkersburg, W.Va, passed away Dec. 13, 2008, at Selby General Hospital in Marietta.

She was born in Oakland, Calif., a daughter of the late Albert and Jane Hill Hart. She worked as a retail clerk for JoAnn Fabric, was a seamstress for over 20 years, a certified Natural Health Professional, and attended the Star in the Messianic East Jewish Congregation in Canton, Ohio.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Rickard L. Sawyer; one son, Aaron P. Sawyer of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Margaret "Peggy" Scott and Carol Downing, both of Lincoln, Neb.; one brother, William "Bill" Hart of Clayton, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Elizabeth Sawyer.

Memorial services will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, with Messianic Pastor Michael Oyler officiating. The family will receive friends the hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Susan Ferris

Susan Ferris, 57, of Vienna, passed away December 9, 2008, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

She was born November 14, 1951, a daughter of Mary Adkins Fisher and the late Buhl Fisher. She retired from Verizon in 2003 after 27 years of service and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Greg Ferris, one daughter Michelle and her husband, Jim Mahoney; one son, Brad Ashenfelter; three grandchildren, Tiffany, James (Ryan) and Alexis Mahoney; one sister Cindie and her husband, Parker Lee; one niece, Kiera and her husband, Brandon Midkiff; one nephew, Christopher Lee.

At Susan's request, cremation services have been entrusted to the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna. A memorial service to celebrate Susan's life will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.
