Edna James Sneigle

Edna James Sneigle, 84, of Vienna, W.Va., passed away on March 16, 2009, at Worthington Manor Nursing Home, where she had resided for the last three years.

She was born Jan. 16, 1925 in Slate, W.Va., the daughter of the late Alice and Emory James. Edna was a graduate of Parkersburg High School class of 1943 and one of the first graduates of the St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She worked several years as a registered nurse at St. Joseph's, American Viscose and in private homes. She was particularly proud of her service as a nurse at Walter Reed Hospital during World War II. In her retirement years, she enjoyed crocheting and reading. Edna was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of Vienna, W.Va.

Edna is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Walter Sneigle; four children and their spouses; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Her two daughters are Rebecca (Philip) Straw of Ellicott City, Md., and Frances (Thomas) Spainhour of Hudson, Wis. Her two sons are Michael (Natalie) Sneigle of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Harry Sneigle of Hermitage, Tenn.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Hall.

Viewing will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave. in Vienna, W.Va., with a rosary service at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home with Father Steve Joseph as celebrant. Burial will follow the ceremony at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church, 55th Street and Grand Central Avenue, Vienna, W.Va. 26105.

Charles Frederick Starkey

Charles Frederick "Fred" Starkey III, 63, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born Feb. 27, 1946, in Parkersburg, a son of the late Charles Frederick Starkey II and Gloria Maxine Heinselman Starkey.

Fred was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was the owner/operator of The Sly Fox, a longtime downtown Parkersburg establishment. Fred's passion was to help foster children and participate in several local charities.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbi Brletrick Starkey; his stepmother who he referred to as "Mom", Helen Starkey Sweeney of Vienna, W.Va.; one brother, Brian Starkey and his wife, Barbara, of Vienna, W.Va.; two nieces, Shannon Emrick and Shelley Starkey, both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; numerous cousins; a host of friends; and his beloved dog, "Honey Bear."

A gathering of family and friends will be from noon until 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m.

Immediately following the memorial service, there will be a celebration of Fred's life at The Sly Fox in Parkersburg.

It is requested that memorials be made to the Wood County Foster Kids/Sly Fox, c/o United Bank, 514 Market St., Parkersburg, WV 26101.

Ila Laura Richards Marshall

Ila Laura Richards Marshall, 75, of Woodruff, S.C., formerly of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away on March 11, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital.

She was born June 3, 1933, in Gilmer County, W.Va., a daughter of the late David Mitchell and Gertrude Richardson Richards.

She was formerly employed at Forma Scientific Inc. of Marietta, Ohio, North End Market of Parkersburg, W.Va., Kardex Systems of Marietta and Kroger's of Parkersburg before moving to Arkansas.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Harold L. Marshall; four sons, Michael (Barbara) Lucas of Parkersburg, W.Va., Harold (Linda) Marshall Jr. of Wellsburg, W.Va., Jeffrey (Patricia) Marshall of Spartanburg, S.C., and Matthew (Sandra) Marshall of Nashville, Ark.; two daughters, Deborah (David) Jennerjohn of Vancouver, Wash., and Kimberly (Gary) Green of Hollister, Mo.; one brother, Thomas (Barbara) Richards of Port Washington, Ohio; two sisters, Garnet McCrady of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Harriet Clegg of Glenville, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Richards and David Richards; and two sisters, Gladys Clegg and Goldie Coe.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. Interment will follow at Herndon Chapel Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

William P. Myers

William "Bill" P. Myers, 79, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away March 9, 2009, at his residence.

He was born in Vienna, W.Va., a son of the late Leonard and Frankie Nelson Myers.

Mr. Myers retired from DuPont Washington Works after 37 years of service. He was an avid hunter and very accomplished writer. He was the author of the published book, "Vienna, W.Va., The Way it Was." He was also a master knife maker, having knives that were sold at The Greenbrier Resort and also Tamarack.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Theta D. Hopkins Myers; one daughter, Marsa C. Myers; two sons, William G. and wife, Melinda Myers, and Neal Rodney Myers; and three grandchildren, Sarah R., Joshua and Luke Myers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Tom and Richard Myers.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va., with Pastor Sandy Runnion officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Sunday at the funeral home. Friends are also invited to join the family at Mt. Olivet Cemetery for a military committal service with full rites conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg, immediately following services at the funeral home.

Grey C. Merrill

Grey C. Merrill, 70, of Elizabeth, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.

He was born August 17, 1938, in Wirt County, W.Va., a son of Eddie H. Merrill of Parkersburg, WV and Naomi Reynolds Merrill of Elizabeth, W.Va.

Grey was the former owner of the Newark Dairyette Restaurant, Merrill's Dozer and Well Service, and Merrill's Oil, Gas and Timbering Service. He was a member of the Newark Baptist Church.

He is survived by his father, Eddie H. (Agnes) Merrill; his mother, Naomi Reynolds Merrill; his wife of 50 years, Joyce Johnson Merrill; two sons, Stephen G. (Rhonda) Merrill, of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Danny R. (Christi) Merrill, of Slate Creek, W.Va.; three brothers, Glen (Norma) Merrill, of Palestine, W.Va., Gene (Patsy) Merrill of Newark, W.Va., and Mark Merrill of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one grandson, Jeremy Merrill of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two great- grandchildren, Dylan Merrill and Chloe Hall; a brother-in-law, Robert (Evelyn) Johnson, of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a former daughter-in-law, Cindy Tichy, of Parkersburg, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews; several very special cousins; and his very dear canine companion, Abby.

He was preceded in death by a niece, Linda Hall.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St, Parkersburg, W.Va., with Pastor Dwight Brohard officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Grove Cemetery Number Two in Wirt County, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, and until time of services on Monday at the funeral home.

Bill Hicks

Bill Hicks, 83, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born November 14, 1925 in Wayne County, Kentucky, the son of the late Obie and Verda (Barnes) Hicks.

Bill was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who deeply cherished his family. Bill and his wife, Vivian (Burkitt) were high school sweethearts and were married February 11, 1945. Bill entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1945. Following his discharge, he went to work for Wiser Oil Company, beginning as a tool dresser. During his 46 year career with Wiser, he worked his way up in the organization retiring as Manager of the Land Department in 1990. He was a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Vienna Baptist Church. Bill loved to golf.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by brothers, Leonard and Ovid Hicks, and sisters, Marcia Gabbard and Betty Lewis.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 64 years, Vivian Burkitt Hicks; his children, Don (Judy) of Clinton, Mississippi, Vernette (Kerry) Miller of Vienna, W.Va., Bob (Jennie) of Sistersville, W.Va., and Paul (Beverly) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; grandchildren, Donnette, Gary, April, Autumn, Atisha, Andrew, Stephanie, Jessica, and Kathy; great grandchildren, Chris, Codie, Miranda, Mariah, Nakita, Titiana, Luka, Gavin, Anna, Beth, Catie, Dorothy, Lois Marie, and Mac; great-great grandchildren, Asia, Illija, and Karma.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Vienna Baptist Church 3401 Grand Central Ave Vienna, W.Va., with Rev. Bill Brown and Mr. Hicks' son, Rev. Don Hicks officiating. Burial will be 3:00 p.m. Friday March 13, 2009 with graveside services at the Oak Valley Cemetery near Fairfield, Illinois. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 3005 Grand Central Ave. Vienna, W.Va. and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vienna Baptist Church in memory of Bill Hicks.

Robert Dean Webb

Robert D. Webb, 46, of Mineral Wells, passed away March 3, 2009 at the Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus, OH.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg with the Pastor Doug Guinn officiating. Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM Monday until time of service at the funeral home.

Paul E. Anderson

Paul Eugene Anderson, 82, of Parkersburg passed away on March 5, 2009 at his residence.

He was born March 31, 1926, in Belleville, W.Va. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his retirement with the American Red Cross in 1991, he enjoyed his retirement with The Kroger Company on the southside of Parkersburg. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War. He had a great love for his pets and Nascar.

Survived by his wife, Joyce Anderson, of 19 years; three daughters, Sandy Blythe of Canton, OH, Brenda (David) Cronk of Front Royal, VA and Michelle (Martin) Campero of Winchester, VA; one son Tracey Eagle of Parkersburg; one sister, Florabella (Gene) Gilchrist of Washington, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a special niece and nephew, Kay and Rod Fluharty.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother.

Funeral services will be on Sunday, March 8, at 2:00 p.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg with Pastor Mark Houser officiating. Family will receive friends from 3:00 - 5:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, at the funeral home.

Memorial can be made to the Parkersburg Humane Society, 29th and Poplar St., Parkersburg, WV 26101.

Avis Mae Baker

Avis Mae Baker, 73, of Parkersburg, W.Va., went to be with the Lord, March 4, 2009 at Sunbridge Care Center.

She was born December 29, 1935, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Worthy Goff and Letha Mae Nicholas Perkins.

Mrs. Baker was a former employee of the Blennerhassett Hotel. She was a member of the Huggies No Tap League and Three Hens and a Rooster Team at Rendor Bowling Lanes. She was a protestant by faith.

She is survived by three daughters, Carol Camp and husband, Robert, of Washington, W.Va., Teresa Crumbaker and husband, Robin, of Vienna, W.Va., and Lisa Yerkes and husband, Bill, of Little Hocking, Ohio; one son, Bruce W. Baker of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two sisters, Susie Tanner of Belpre, Ohio and Mary Daugherty of Elizabeth, W.Va.; two brothers, Denver Perkins of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Jerry Perkins of Belpre, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Scott and Jamie Camp, Jeremy Lipscomb, Chad, Cari and Kent Crumbaker, Erin Martin and Nick Yerkes; six great-grandchildren, Kelsi, Savanna, Kodi, and Mason Camp, and Lucas and Jessica Lipscomb.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Baker, in 1985; two sisters, Vera Franklin and Ruth Cottril; and two brothers, Orvil and Paul Perkins.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Jim Lynch officiating. Interment will follow at the K & P Cemetery in Elizabeth, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Helen Lorraine Nutter

Helen Lorraine Nutter, 88, of Belpre, Ohio passed away March 4, 2009, at the Arcadia Nursing Center in Coolville, Ohio.

Lorraine was born in Greenwood, W.Va., Doddridge County, the daughter of the late Omer Ralph and Nellie Dotson Waldo.

She was a graduate of Doddridge County High School. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and an avid reader. She was retired from Miller Homes where she worked as a bookkeeper for 35 years.

She is survived by three children, Larry (Katharine) Nutter of Belpre, Ohio, Karen Matthews of Belpre, Ohio, and Bea Corra of Parkersburg, W.Va.; four grandsons, Matthew (Linda), Andrew, Robert, and Joseph; three granddaughters, Melissa (David), Phoebe, and Beth; two great-grandsons, Sean and Davis; two great-granddaughters, Allison and Danielle; a brother, Bill (Maxine) Waldo and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Porter Nutter; an infant son, Michael Lee Nutter; and her sister, Elena Underwood.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Blvd. Belpre, Ohio, with Rev. Steve DeLay officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rockland Cemetery in Belpre, Ohio.

Lucille H. Roberts

Lucille H. (Grandma) Roberts, 97, of Vienna, W.Va., passed away March 2, 2009, at the West Virginia Masonic Home.

She was born in Walker, W.Va., a daughter of the late Lee and Amanda Lambert Emrick. She was a homemaker and a member of the Independent Baptist Church in Vienna. Grandma, as she was referred to, was known for her homemade crosses with the plan of Salvation that have been sent around the world.

She is survived by one daughter, Delores Hammer (Bobby) of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; two sons, Lynn (Bud) Roberts (Myrtle) of Vienna, W.Va. and Will Roberts of Utah; one sister, Grace Dotson of Parkersburg, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce M. Roberts; one son, Robert Clair Roberts; one daughter-in-law, Ann Roberts; and nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Independent Baptist Church in Vienna with the Rev. Robert P. May officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen North Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va., and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Kenneth Ronald Fritz

Kenneth Ronald Fritz, 70, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away on March 4, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg.

He was born Nov. 27, 1938, in Scranton, Pa. Kenneth was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after two tours of duty in Vietnam and retired after 21 years of service. He retired from the Wood County Correctional Facility after 20 years of service as a Correctional Officer and attended Stout Memorial United Methodist Church.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Barbara Morgan Fritz; one son, Kenneth Fritz Jr. (Michelle) of Waverly, W.Va.; two daughters, Kimberly Davis (Thomas) of Dunbar, W.Va., and Kelly Fritz of Parkersburg, W.Va.; eight siblings; four grandchildren, Justin, Matthew, Kristan and Austen; and one great-granddaughter, Kierra.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va., with Pastor Scott Sears officiating. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.
