Florence Dalton

Florence Dalton, 98, of Vienna, W.Va. went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

She was born in Roane County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Aaron and Almon Graham Tawney. She worked at the former Spencer State Hospital, and along with her late husband, was in business around their home in Vienna. She was a long time member of Vienna Baptist Church and the Grand Chapter of Eastern Star.

Her thoughtfulness and zest for life will always bring fond memories to those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack S. Dalton; one stepson; four brothers; and one sister.

Surviving are sisters, Mamie Haines of Newton, W.Va., and Anne Despasito and husband, Mike, of Albuquerque, N.M.; brothers, Clement Tawney of Tariff, W.Va., Jarrett "Buzz" Tawney of Spencer, W.Va., and Dan Tawney of Newton, W.Va.; two step-grandchildren, Donald Dalton of Landenberg, Pa., and Dorthy Greynolds of Parkersburg, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews; and special neighbor and friend, Gary Sall of Vienna, W.Va.

Special thanks to the staff of 4 North Memorial and caregiver, Laura Barker.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va., with the Rev. Bill Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Darkis Gay Murphy

Darkis Gay Murphy, 90, of Barlow, Ohio, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital Marietta, Ohio after an extended illness.

She was born on Nov. 29, 1918, in Calhoun County, W.Va., a daughter of the late-Floyd Jarvis and Nancy McLaughlin Jarvis. Darkis Gay married Joseph Clem Murphy, Sept. 7, 1945, in Spencer, W.Va. She cherished her family and enjoyed cooking, gardening, collecting dolls and loved her dogs, cats and all her animals. She attended Decatur Chapel Church and Lighthouse Baptist Church in Barlow, before her illness.

Darkis Gay is survived by one daughter, Mable Carpenter of Marietta, Ohio; one brother, Fred Truman of Mansfield, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law, Lou Truman.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ivan; a daughter, Rosilee; five sisters; and four brothers.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 1305 Washington Blvd. Belpre, Ohio, with Pastor Charles Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Barlow Cemetery. Visitation is from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Veda L. Ellyson

Veda L. Ellyson, 86, of Vienna, W.Va., passed away March 3, 2009, at the Marietta Nursing and Rehab Center in Marietta, Ohio.

She was born in Braxton County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Z.A. and Lelia Rhoades Groves. She was a retired seamstress, a member of the Parkersburg Eagles Club and Vienna Baptist Church.

Veda is survived by one son, Donald Ellyson (Barbara Kay) of Alva, Fla.; two daughters, Raenetta Hayhurst (Herb) of Amesville, Ohio, and Jean Ayre (Harry) of Vienna, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Shelley Tebay (Rob), Dawna Kay Bouwer (Bill), Stacey Ayre, Steven Ellyson (Leigh Ann), Craig Jarvis (Sheri) and Alan Jarvis (Shawnna); 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arch Ellyson; two brothers; and one sister.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va., with Pastor Chuck Kiser officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Williamstown, W.Va. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607-1460.

Joanne Cresson

Joanne Cresson, 67, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Feb. 22, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born in Derry Township, Pa., a daughter of the late Joseph and Stella Feasel McCurdy. She was retired from Johns Manville, served in the United States Air Force, where she was a member of the Women's Air Force Band, and was a Catholic by faith.

Joanne is survived by one son, Justin Cresson of Williamstown, W.Va.; one sister, Marian Costanza of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. with Kim Costanza officiating.

Anna Lyons Roush

Anna Lyons Roush, 87, of Boaz, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 2, 2009, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 7, 1921, in Jackson County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Andrew E. and Edna Mae Parker Lyons.

Anna had worked at Chancellor Hotel for 20 years, Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital for three years and Ohio Valley College for eight years. She retired from Parkview Health Care after six years of service.

She was a member of The Stepping Stones Organization and a member of the Jefferson Baptist Temple.

She is survived by three sons, Willard L. Roush and wife, Gloria, of Parkersburg, W.Va., Norman L. Roush and wife, Judy, of Waverly, W.Va., and Gary W. Roush and wife, Carolyn, of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one daughter-in-law, Sandy Roush of Williamstown, W.Va.; and 10 grandchildren that she loved dearly, Gregory and Kevin Roush of Williamstown, W.Va., Rodney Roush and wife, Patty, of Columbus, Ohio, Rick Roush and wife, Angela, of Washington, W.Va., Ronald Roush and wife, Shawna, of Parkersburg, W.Va., Roger Roush and Angela of Mineral Wells, W.Va., Barbara and husband, Marshall Cantwell, of Parkersburg, W.Va., Rebekah Richards of Parkersburg, W.Va., Dr. Jason Roush and wife, Lesley, of Ripley, W.Va., and Jodie and husband, David Pierotti, of Parkersburg, W.Va. She leaves behind 23 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mae Waybright of Parkersburg, W.Va.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Clarence W. Roush; one son, Woodrow E. Roush; one brother, Brady E. Lyons; four sisters, Josephine Shepard, Mrytle Spencer, Albirda Wayne and Rose Broughton; a daughter-in-law, Dolores E. Roush; and a great-granddaughter, Kayla Marie Roush.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, W.Va., with Pastor Mike Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. today and prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.

Charles A. Kingston

Charles "Charlie" A. Kingston, 87, of Mineral Wells, W.Va., formerly of Madison, Mo., passed away March 1, 2009, at the Willows Center.

He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., a son of the late John C. and Elizabeth Caroline Mohl Kingston.

Charlie was a retired supervisor with the Missouri State Department of Corrections. He enjoyed fishing and traveling, and formerly attended the Madison Christian Church, Madison, Mo., and was also a member of the Grace Gospel Church, Pettyville. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, having served in World War II, and also belonged to the American Legion of Madison.

Surviving is one son, Charles D. Kingston and wife, Cathy, of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Ryan Kingston of Fairmont, W.Va., Anthony Wright of St. Louis, Mo., Adriane Janssen of Fairmont, Michael Kingston of Clarksburg, W.Va., and Sean Wright of Seattle, Wash.; one great-grandchild, Payton Alexis Janssen of Fairmont, W.Va.; and one niece, Janet Cross of Lees Summit, Mo.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Herma Faye Darst Kingston in 1999; and one daughter, Suzanne Wright in 1980.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesda, March 3, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Roger Benson officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and also from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Million-Taylor Funeral Home, 101 W. Broadway St., Madison, MO, 65263. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Sunset Hills Cemetery, Madison, Mo., with the Rev. Thomas Downey officiating and full military rites provided.

Shirley Ann Sams

Shirley Ann Sams, 59, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away Feb. 23, 2009 at The Arbors of Marietta.

Shirley was born in Werneck, Germany the daughter of Ltc. Harry C. and Vivian Sams. She was a graduate of West Virginia University holding a degree in Criminal Justice.

She is survived by her mother, Vivian Sams of Petroleum, W.Va.; her brothers, Chris Sams of Avon Lake, Ohio, Tony Sams of Petroleum, W.Va., David Sams of Butler, Pa., Bobby Sams of Saudi Arabia, Steven Sams of Hundred, W.Va., Andrew Sams of Parowan, Utah, and Keith Sams of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and a sister, Tina Lishman of Chloe, W.Va.

Shirley was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a nephew, David Lee Sams Jr.; her father, Ltc. Harry C. Sams of Petroleum, W.Va.; paternal grandparents, Ralph and Gladys Sams of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and maternal grandparents, Himmel and Goodwren Hanson Spilhaug of Oslo, Norway.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 400 Green St. Parkersburg, WV is assisting the family.

Cecil R. Kitzmiller

Cecil R. Kitzmiller, 81, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Feb. 28, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 4, 1928, in Grant County, W.Va., a son of the late Austin H. and Zellah Head Kitzmiller. Cecil had attended Potomac State College and West Virginia University in Parkersburg and was retired with over 35 years of service from State Farm Insurance Co., where he worked in claims. He was a World War II and Korean War veteran and was a member of the Beechwood Presbyterian Church.

Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Betty J. Kitzmiller; one son and his wife, Dana R. and Melissa Kitzmiller of Levittown, Pa.; and four grandchildren, Matthew P. Kitzmiller, Nicholas R. Kitzmiller, Kathrin J. Kitzmiller and Connor M. Kitzmiller.

In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by three brothers, Austin, Richard and Clarence Kitzmiller; and two sisters, Dorothy Streets and Ina Kitzmiller.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400Green Street, Parkersburg, W.Va., with Pastor John Koerner officiating. Entombment will follow at the Sunset Memory Gardens and Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Hubert Stanley Somerville

Hubert Stanley Somerville, 73, of Elizabeth, W.Va., died February 27, 2009, after spending his last days on earth at home. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence, following a long illness.

He was born September 6, 1935, in Wirt County, a son of the late George Robert Somerville and Donna Mahfood.

Hubert was employed with GE Chemical, Washington, W.Va. and retired in 1991. After his retirement he enjoyed farming, bee keeping and the outdoors. He was a Christian by faith.

He is survived by his wife Opal Ann Posten Somerville, whom he married in 1955; his younger brother, Archie (Mary) Somerville, of Akron, OH; three sons, H. Randy (Joyce) Somerville, David (Dianne) Somerville, and George (Janet) Somerville, all of Elizabeth; Two grandsons, Justin Somerville and Cris Somerville; three granddaughters, Heather (Jamie) Halstead, Katlin Somerville, and Aimee (Josh) Shriver; several nieces and nephews; and his canoeing buddies and numerous special neighbors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his elder brother, Gene Somerville and a nephew, Donnie Somerville.

At the request of the deceased, no visitation hours will be observed and a private memorial will be held by the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 3901 Briscoe Rd, PO Box 4451, Parkersburg, WV 26101.

Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Pike St, south Parkersburg is assisting the family with arrangements.

Freda Miller LeMasters

Freda "Genevieve" Miller LeMasters, 86, of Parkersburg, W.Va., formerly of Pennsboro and West Union, W.Va., passed away on Feb. 24, 2009, at her residence, following an extended period of deteriorating health.

She was born April 22, 1922, in Pennsboro, W.Va., the only child of the late Cliff and Alice Cain Miller.

Genevieve was a graduate of Pennsboro High School with the class of 1939 and was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church in Parkersburg. She spent her entire working career in the banking business having served in various positions, first at the Community Bank in Pennsboro and then for 35 years at the Commercial Banking & Trust in Parkersburg.

She is survived by two sons, Dana L. (Sherry Lynn) LeMasters of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Lynn S. LeMasters of Winter Haven, Fla.; and one granddaughter, Lisa Marie (Corey) Kruk of Ravenswood, W.Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Martin LeMasters in 1971.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. James B. and Mrs. Rheba V. Arbogast officiating. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va.

Glenn C. Gault Sr.

Glenn C. Gault Sr., 84, of Parkersburg, passed away April 28, 2009, at Select Specialty Hospital in Charleston, WV.

He was born September 25, 1924, in Palestine, WV, a son of the late Johnny Everett and Carrie Thelma Lockhart Gault.

Glenn was a retired meat cutter and has previously worked at Cloverdale, Camps and Payne's Meat Market. He was a World War II veteran of the US Army, member of the American Legion Post 15, Parkersburg and a member of Soul's Refuge Church.

He is survived by his wife Ruth Dingler Gault; one son, Glenn C. 'Sonny' Gault Jr., of Parkersburg; two step-sons, David Piggott of Washington, WV and John Piggott of Elizabeth, WV; his beloved nephew, James Alex Jones of Oxnard, CA; and his beloved dog, Buddy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Louisa Mae Stephens Gault; and two brothers, Wilmer and Rodney Gault.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg with Pastor John Longfellow officiating. Interment will follow at Dunkard Cemetery, Wirt County with Justice Motorcycle Club as Honorary Pallbearers. Family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30 at the funeral home.
