Clyde Bertram Reed

Clyde Bertram Reed, 72, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away May 16, 2009 at his residence. He was born July 27, 1936 in Harrisville W.Va., a son of the late Fred E. and Ethel A. Cox Reed.

Clyde retired after thirty-three years of service with G.E. Plastics as a chemical operator. He was a US Army veteran and a proud 1955 graduate of Harrisville High School. Clyde was an avid hunter and fisherman, and also enjoyed gun shows and knife collecting. He belonged to several organizations, including the NRA, The Eagles, AMVETS, and the American Legion.

He is survived by his son, David Reed of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and one sister, Geneva G. Johnson and husband Robert of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Ellen Reed of Pennsboro, W.Va., and Lotti Reed of Harrisville, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews; and also several great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Geneive Pifer; and three brothers, Charles L. Reed, Lorris J. Reed, and infant Fred Reed Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, and one hour prior to services on Friday, May 22, at the funeral home.

Dorothy Jones Yglesias

Dorothy Jones Yglesias, 88, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away Friday, May 15, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born Sept. 5, 1920 in Eaton, W.Va., a daughter of the late Lee G. Sprout Sr. and Grace Evans Sprout.

Dorothy was a 1938 graduate of Parkersburg High School. She was a homemaker and formerly worked as a nurse's aide at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. For several years, Dorothy was a bartender at F.O.E. #2307 in Parkersburg. She enjoyed being with family and friends, bird watching, and dancing. She was past president of F.O.E. #2307 Ladies Auxiliary, and attended Fresh Bread Ministeries in Reno, Ohio.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Fuller of Marietta, Ohio, and Lisa Sims (Jim) of Vienna, W.Va.; two sons, Carl Jones (Serina) of Parkersburg, W.Va. and David Jones (Esther) of Lexington, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; one stepson, Larry Yglesias; and a stepdaughter, Margaret Ann Pool; two sisters, Freda Horner and Martha Metz, both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Sprout and Joann Sprout.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Jones; her second husband, Manuel Yglesias; a daughter, Dora Thurston; and two brothers, Lee George Sprout Jr., and Frederick William Sprout.

Funeral services for Dorothy will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastors Peggy and Rick Shingleton officiating. Entombment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. p.m. at the funeral home.

Louis C. Janssen

Louis C. "Louie" Janssen, 73, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away May 14, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born in Arnhem, Holland, a son of the late Cornellis Kase and Willowmina Elizabeth Van Derwehl Janssen. He was a self-employed contractor, a member of the Waverly Volunteer Fire Department and served in the United States Army.

Louie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Carter Janssen; daughters, Sherry DeLong (Jeff) of Vienna, W.Va. and Kay Deem (Greg) of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; sons, Louis C. Janssen Jr. (Margaret) of Parkersburg, W.Va., Jack Janssen (Teressa) of Decatur, Ga. and Vincent Janssen (Jodi) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; grandchildren, Louie III, Dave (Adie), Christopher, Angela, (David) Paul, Cynthia, Patrick, Andrew, Amber, Matt (Charity) Hannah and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Hope, Laynne, Payton, Jaden, Haleigh, Brailey, Alex and Little Louie.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. with Pastor Phil Prunty officiating. Friends may call Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Catherine May Lykens

Catherine May Buckley Lykens, 66, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away May 13, 2009 at the Willows Center.

She was born May 7, 1942 in Wood County, W.Va., a daughter of the late George William Buckley and Ella Florence Craven Buckley of Parkersburg.

Catherine retired after forty years of service in housekeeping from St. Joseph's Hospital. She enjoyed bingo and her family. As a child she attended Murdoch Ave. Methodist Church.

She is survived by one sister, Ruth F. Stephens and her husband, Vernon of Davisville, W.Va.; three brothers, Roger Buckley and his wife, Linda Sue, and Jack Buckley and his wife Martha all of Vienna, W.Va., and William 'Bill' Buckley and his wife, Neda Kay of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two nieces and one nephew whom she was very close to, Rebecca, Melissa and Roger Jr.; and a host of other special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert 'Red' Lykens on Feb. 23, 1995; and two brothers, Earl B. and Roy E. Buckley.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor John Vermilyen officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen North Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Freddie Harold "Jim" Packer

Freddie Harold, known by his family as 'Jim', Packer, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away May 12, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital. He went to his heavenly home where he will be with his son Randy, who died in Sept, 2007.

He was born November 26, 1932, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late Harold C. and June Gregory Packer.

Fred served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. He worked at the FMC for 19 years and retired after 15 years as a mechanic from Cytec. Everyone always said he was the best mechanic ever, a trait he passed down to his son and grandson. He was a member of Edgelawn United Methodist Church, attended South Baptist Parkersburg Church, was a member of the Wild Wonderful Camping Club and American Legion Post 15. He enjoyed camping, racing, taking pictures, going to church, woodworking and working on his family's genealogy. He also enjoyed getting together with friends and family and going to Florida or Myrtle Beach for winter vacations.

He is survived by his best friend and the love of his entire life Shirley; his son, Johnny Dale Packer, whom he was so proud of, and his wife, Rose Anna of Waverly, W.Va.; one grandson, Jason and friend, Heather, of Morgantown, W.Va.; one granddaughter, Tina Espy and her husband, Brooks, of the USAF in Hampton, Va., from the day they were born his children were his proud heritage. He also had three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Austin and Alijah, whom he dearly loved with all his heart as you could tell by all his pictures and visits. He also leaves behind six brothers and sisters, Jean (Jim) Wayman of Orange, Tex., Ruth Eddy and daughter, Debbie, Don (Pat) Packer, all of Parkersburg, W.Va., Richard (Jan) Packer, Reba (Stan) Hitt, all of Washington, W.Va., and Ron (Kathy) Packer of Vienna, W.Va.; one aunt, Louise Blake of Belpre, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Joe Busch officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the devoted and excellent care Fred received at the St. Joseph's SICU, to Dr. Cramer, Dr. Gold, Dr. Gondalia, Dr. Modi and Nurse Sharon, with all the knowledge and expert care they tried to save him but God's call was greater. To Pastor Joe Busch and Sister June for their Christian love, we say thank for your support during this time. Freddie will truly be missed by many.

Doris Adena Waldeck

Doris Adena Waldeck, age 87, of Belpre, Ohio, passed away May 12, 2009 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg, W.Va.

She was born May 20, 1921 in Reedy, W.Va. a daughter of the late Pearl and Agnes Cain Wood.

She retired in 1985 from the Belpre Rexall Drug Store and was a member of the Mullen Memorial Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Sonjia McKelvey (Bob) of Belpre, Ohio; one sister, Betty Daggett of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one brother, Don Wood of Reedy, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Jeff McKelvey (Beth) of Issaquah, Wash., Tim McKelvey (Patty) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Rob McKelvey (Sara) of Nashville, Tenn., Karissa McKelvey of Belpre, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Mason and Megan McKelvey of Issaquah, Wash., and Adena McKelvey of Nashville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade M. Waldeck; two brothers, Herschel and Thomas Wood; three sisters, Myrtle Wood, Lillian Chenoweth, and Virginia Dye Cunningham; a half-brother, Ira Wood and a half-sister, Grace Dye.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Blvd. Belpre, Ohio with Pastor Rick Kapple officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens, Parkersburg, W.Va. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Thursday.

Joseph R. Long

Joseph R. Long, 61, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away May 9, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Ohio following a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 21, 1947, in Wood County, W.Va. a son of the late Romie and Hazel Carpenter Long.

Joe retired as a machinist for Walker Co. after 22 years of service. He enjoyed motorcycles and old cars. He was also a member of the Machinist Local Union 2077 of Parkersburg.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Billie L. Horner Long; one daughter, Candace "Candy" M. Fluharty and husband, Joseph, of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Hayleigh and Joshua Fluharty, also of Parkersburg, W.Va.; three brothers, Huey Long and wife, Diane, of Parkersburg, W.Va., Roger Long and wife, Lynne, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Gene Long of West Virginia; one sister, Betty Sams and husband, Bob, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers-in-law, Jeffrey Horner and wife, Crystal, of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Phillip Nicholson and wife, Wanda, of North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Cathy McDaniel and husband, John, of Pt. Pleasant, W.Va., and Toni Stalnaker of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son, Joseph Long Jr.; two brothers, Virgil and Monty Long; five sisters, Annie Bush, Goldie Long, Joan Kincaid, Pearly Mundell and Rose Nesbitt; and two nephews, David and Kieth Kincaid.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 2333 Pike Street, Parkersburg, W.Va., with Pastor Rob Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Sherry A. Ferrebee

Sherry A. Ferrebee, 49, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away May 6, 2009, at her residence.

She was born August 10, 1959, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, a daughter of Karen Shaw White, of Philippi, W.Va., and the late Johnnie C. Murphy.

Sherry was a homemaker and enjoyed camping, baking and conversations with family and friends.

She is survived by her mother; her husband, Don Ferrebee; one daughter, Danielle Marie (Dale) Henthorn, of New Martinsville, W.Va.; one son, Shawn A. Ferrebee and his fiancée, Susan, of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one sister, Cathy Jean Price, of Belington, W.Va.; one brother, Johnnie C. (Cindy) Murphy of Louisville, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Luna and Acquira.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Misty Dawn Ferrebee; and her step-father, Kenneth White.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Audra State Park, Buchanan, W.Va. with Rev. Tim Underwood officiating. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St, south Parkersburg is assisting the family with arrangements.

Rudolph 'Rudy' F. Planthaber

Rudolph 'Rudy' F. Planthaber, 73, of Mineral Wells, W.Va., passed away May 7, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born April 7, 1936, in Hoboken, New Jersey, son of late Rudolph P. and Clara Burgraff Planthaber.

Rudy graduated in 1954 from Stuyvesant High School, New York, New York. He proudly served in the US Army from 1960-1962 and retired as a Project Engineer from Ames Co. in 2001 where he held 14 US Patents.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan; one daughter, Alison and her fiancé, Kevin Hicks of Knightdale, North Carolina; one son, Greg and his wife, Kathy of Falls Church, Virginia; and one sister, Patricia of New Rochelle, New York.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 11 at 4:00 p.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St, south Parkersburg with Jim Lynch officiating. Family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary Belle O'Brien

Mary Belle O'Brien, 94, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away May 6, 2009 at the Worthington Manor Nursing Facility after a brief illness.

She was born October 22, 1914, in Parkersburg, W.Va, a daughter of the late Harry C. Sr. and Arena Maude Riddle Hartleben.

Mary Belle was a 1932 graduate of Parkersburg High School where she was proud to be in the first Acapella choir. She had worked at the Viscose, McCroy's, Kramer's Photo, Dils Department Store, Obermeyer's Florist and retired as office manager of Gladding Vitro Agate Marble Factory. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood WV Chapter G and was past Worthy Matron of OES Chapter 14. She is the oldest active member of the First Christian Church where she served many years as a member of the deaconate, was a member of the Logan Martin Sunday School Class and later attended the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class, Guild and faithful participant in the Monday morning ladies 'workshop'. She sang in the choir for many years.

In 1934, Mary Belle married Charles William 'Billy' O'Brien who preceded her in death in 1986. Two of their three children, Jane Eleanor 'Chee Chee' and William Patrick 'Pat' also preceded her in death.

Surviving is her daughter, Lora Susanne 'Susie' Holmes and her husband, Neil, of Parkersburg, W.Va; daughter-in-law, Janet O'Brien of North Carolina; granddaughters, Kristi R. Prince of Berea, Ohio, Alyse Munson (William) of Orlando, Florida, Leslie Martin of Apopka, Florida, and Alana Susanne Campbell (Tim) of Chesapeake, Virginia; step-granddaughter, Lisa M. Whirtly of Parkersburg, W.Va; grandsons, Michael William Patrick O'Brien (Deborah) of Moyock, North Carolina, F. Frederick 'Rick' Martin of Orlando, Florida, and William Patrick Martin of Laconta, Florida; one sister, Ruth Ann Wigal (Seldon L. Jr) of Parkersburg, W.Va; very special friend, Bonnie Snodgrass; two great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters; two step-great grandsons; one step-great granddaughter; two great-great granddaughters; one step-great-great granddaughter; one great-great grandson due in June; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, her husband and two children, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth 'Betty' Kirk and Grace Enoch; one brother, Harry C. Hartleben Jr.; one granddaughter, Sandra Lynn O'Brien; and one nephew, Harry C. Hartleben III.

A memorial service will be held Monday, May 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church, Washington St., Parkersburg, W.Va., with Pastor Sanford Downs officiating. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St, Parkersburg.

Memorial donations may be made to the General Fund of First Christian Church.

John L. Sams Jr.

John L. Sams Jr., 55 of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away May 5, 2009at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 4, 1954 in Wood County, W.Va., a son of the late John L. Sr. and Beatrice Brown Sams. John was a 1973 graduate of Parkersburg High School. He worked as a delivery man for Action Auto Parts, was a member and trustee in the loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1118 and attended the Bible Baptist Church. He enjoyed Nascar and bowling.

He is survived by his children, Anna Mae Sams and Johnathon Paul Sams both of Washington, W.Va.; three sisters, Mary Lou Harrison of Ohio, Carolyn Sue Johnson of Maryland, and Rebecca Ross of South Carolina; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents John was preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn Frazier.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 400 Green St. Parkersburg, WV with Pastor Daniel Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, with a brief memorial service to be conducted by Moose Lodge 1118.
