Russell Barr

Russell Barr, 90, of Hudson, Fla., formerly of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away June 9, 2009, at the Bayonet, Fla. Medical Center.

He was born July 18, 1918, in Clarksburg, W.Va. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, had owned Barr's Grill in Parkersburg, was retired after several years in other restaurant ventures and was a member of the Hudson United Methodist Church.

Russell is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Barr; and two sons, Russell Barr of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Robert A. Barr of Spring Hill, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen Barr; a stepson, Frank Kolosky; four brothers; and one sister.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, with the Rev. Sandy Runion officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home.

Samuel San Miguel

Samuel San Miguel, 49, of Davisville, W.Va., passed away June 8, 2009, at his residence.

He was born July 30, 1959, in Dumas, Tex., a son of the late Juan and Andrea Santana San Miguel.

Samuel was a Millwright at Alcan Aluminum Products in Ravenswood, he was a musician and enjoyed playing the drums and was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

He is survived by his companion of 14 years, Cathy Nedeff; four sons, Michael San Miguel, Samuel San Miguel Jr., Royce (Ashley) San Miguel, all of Texas, and Santiago (Emily Shannon) San Miguel of Ore.; six siblings, Aurora Carbajal, Jim San Miguel, Rick San Miguel, Rachael San Miguel, Steve San Miguel and Estella San Miguel; two grandchildren, Landon and Adelyn San Miguel; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Ester Campos, Eusebio San Miguel, Julia Phillips, Irma Rodriguez and Juan San Miguel Jr.

A memorial service to celebrate Samuel's life will be 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with the Rev. Dr. William Thomas officiating. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests that memorials may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 417 Grand Park Drive #206, Parkersburg, W.Va. 26101 or the American Cancer Society, 3901 Brisco Run Rd., Parkersburg, WV 26104.

Paul Ferree

Paul Ferree, 88, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away June 9, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Parkersburg, a son of the late Dorr P. and Mary L. Cunningham Ferree. He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School with the January class of 1940. He was also a graduate of Mountain State College in Parkersburg.

Paul retired as office manager for Louis Thomas Subaru and was a member of Company L of the Parkersburg National Guard Infantry, which was mobilized into federal service in 1941. During World War II, he served in the Infantry Military Police and Combat Engineers and served in both the Pacific and the Occupation of Japan.

He is survived by one son, Chris Ferree of Vienna, W.Va.; one daughter, Collette Flowers of Virginia Beach, Va.; one sister, Frances Hall of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and three grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Craig Ferree; two sisters; and one brother.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2009 at Evergreen North Cemetery with the Rev. John Koerner officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 15, Parkersburg. No visitation will be observed.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va.

Richard Thomas

Richard "Dick" Thomas, 72, of Belpre, Ohio passed away June 8, 2009, at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.

Dick was born Aug. 2, 1936, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late June and Marguerite Davis Thomas. He was a 1954 graduate of Belpre High School and a 1964 graduate of Wharton School of Finance.

Dick was a member of United Steelworkers of America Union with Kaiser Aluminum and progressed through 22 management positions in 25 years and retired as vice president of National Marketing. At HEPA Corporation, he served as Chief Executive Officer. He was elected to a four-year term as Belpre Mayor. Dick was co-executive director of Ohio River Trails Inc., the manager of the Ohio River National Scenic Byway and was co-founder of Ohio River Trails and the Byway.

He was chair of Belpre Area Community Development Foundation, a member of the Belpre Historical Society, president of the Belpre High School Alumni Association, president of Economic Roundtable of Ohio Valley, charter member of the Rotary Club of Belpre and active member of the Belpre Holiday Lights Committee. Dick was also a member of the Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame, Ohio Department of Commerce Oversight Committee, Artsbridge Board, Masonic groups such as Belpre Lodge 609 of F & AM, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner, Valley of Cambridge Scottish Rite Bodies and Nemesis Shrine, Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and the Cherry Hill Navy. He was also a member of the Big Ten Club, Elks and Moose Lodges, various school alumni groups and Ohio's AppGo Committee.

Among many of his awards were Ohio's Outstanding Young Man in 1964, Belpre Jaycee's Outstanding Citizen in 1965, Citizen of the Year in 1999 by the Civitan Club and awarded Outstanding Community Service Award by Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce in 1999.

He attended St. Andrews United Methodist Church of Parkersburg, was a member of the American Legion, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of De Sales Foundation. Dick was also past president of St. Joseph's Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pamela Jackson Thomas; a daughter, Julie Thomas and son-in-law, Colin Carr-Nall, of Los Angeles, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; cousin, Patsy Rutt of New Port Richey, Fla.; and "Duffy" the dog.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Porterfield Baptist Church in Little Hocking, Ohio, with Dr. Thomas McDowell officiating. Burial will follow in Rockland Cemetery, Belpre, Ohio with full military rites by the American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 1305 Washington Blvd. Belpre, Ohio and one hour prior to the services Friday at the church. Belpre Masonic Lodge 609 will conduct Masonic services at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

For those considering an expression of sympathy, memorials may be sent to the Belpre Historical Society, 509 Ridge Street, Belpre, or Belpre Holiday Lights, 715 Park Drive, Belpre. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Kenneth Park

Kenneth Park, 72, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away June 7, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born January 24, 1937, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late Bruce and Mary Shaffer Park.

Kenneth was a 1954 graduate of Parkersburg High School and was a 20 year veteran of the U.S. Navy having served on a destroyer in Vietnam. He retired from Corning/Schott Glass as a Gaffer/Mixer.

He is survived by one daughter, Cynthia (Mark) Carpenter of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two sons, Kevin (Kim) Park of Riverview, Fla., and Kenneth (Brooke) Park of Spring Hill, Fla.; two brothers, Michael 'Mike' Park of Logan, W.Va., and Jeff Park of Parkersburg, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Rachel, Alex, Kirsten, Kaylin, Austin, Justin, and Jordan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Robinson.

A Memorial Service will be 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 11, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg with Father Joseph Peterson officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of choice.

Lee Roberts

Lee Roberts, 83, of Parkersburg, passed away June 7, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born March 15, 1926 in Central (Vienna), W.Va., a son of the late Arch and Macel Rawlings Roberts.

Lee was employed with G.C Murphys for several years and was also self-employed in sales. He was a US Army veteran, having served in WWII. Lee was also very active at the Bible Baptist Church, Parkersburg, W.Va., where he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and a Sunday school superintendent.

He is survived by his loving wife, June Villers Roberts; three daughters, Sandra Lee Bowen and husband Steve of Tuppers Plain O.H., Debra Calhoun and husband Steve and Cynthia Reynolds and husband Robert, both of Vincent O.H.; one son, Jeffrey Roberts and wife Mary, also of Vincent O.H.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Glenna Alford, of Parkersburg, W.Va..

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kelly Bowen; and two brothers, Jack and Harry Roberts.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11AM, Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va., with Pastor Dan Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. The family will receive friends from 2-8PM Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at the funeral home.

Mary K. Posey Farnsworth

Mary Kathryn Posey Farnsworth, 77, of Summit, W.Va., passed away Friday, June 5, 2009, at her residence with a hug, a kiss and a smile as she went to meet her Lord.

She was born June 2, 1932, at Orlando, W.Va., in Lewis County, a daughter of the late George and Sylvia Riffle Posey.

Mary was a homemaker, enjoyed watching birds and listening to country music and was a member of the Summit Valley United Methodist Church which she loved dearly.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Fred Farnsworth; four daughters, Betty Flesher of Waverly, W.Va., Patty Byers (Bill) of Ripley, Barb Perkins (Bill) of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Kathy Gordon (Dan) of Summit, W.Va.; two sons, Tom Farnsworth and Harlan Farnsworth (Mary), all of Summit, W.Va.; one brother, Robert "Bob" Posey of Coolville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Danny, Beverly, Amber, Susie, whom she raised, Nancy, Lisa, Billy "B.J.", Heather, Laurie and Ashlee; 11 great-grandchildren, Justin, Shawnie, Josie, Danielle, Zane, Katylnn, Joey, Carol, Isabella, Reagan and Rylee; one great-great-grandson, Peyton; and a great-great-grandchild to be born in the fall.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Vickie Sue; and a son-in-law, Jerry Flesher.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at the Summit Valley United Methodist Church with Joe Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the Varner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2009, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va., and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Edward Pearl Van Fossen

Helen Irene Lyons Riggs, 81, of Mineral Wells, W.Va. passed away June 2, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 24, 1928, in Parkersburg, W.Va. a daughter of the late George Edward and Lucille Smith Lyons.

Helen was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and was a nurse's aide at St. Joseph's Hospital until her retirement. She loved to travel, spend time with her family and sit on her back porch.

She is survived by two sons, John E. Riggs of Mineral Wells, W.Va. and Harold A. Phillips and his wife, Sherry E., ; one grandson, Edward Phillips; and one granddaughter, Susan Phillips, all of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one great-grandson, Landon E. "Noodle" Phillips of the home; and one great-grandson that is due any day, Maddox Phillips.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Phillips; and one brother, Harold Lyons.

Funeral services will be 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Tim Burch officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home.

Following Helen's services and visitation, her cremains will be scattered in North Carolina at the Cherokee Indian Reservation at a later date in honor of her heritage.

Nathan Travis Read

Nathan Travis Read, 26, of Davisville passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009, at his residence. He was born in Parkersburg, a son of Charlie and Peggy Atkinson Read. He served in the Army National Guard and was a Christian by faith.

In addition to his parents, Nathan is survived by one daughter, Natalie Grace Read of Parkersburg. He is the fourth of eight boys, and leaves behind his seven brothers Matthew Read (Jessica) and Aaron Read (Carrie) both of Parkersburg, Isaac Read, Andrew Read, Joshua Read, Adam Read and Daniel Read all of Davisville; four nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Gilbert and Rose Atkinson; and his paternal grandparents, Harold and Joan Read.

Nathan was an outgoing, friendly man who loved his parents and family. He was a loving and proud father of his five-year old daughter Natalie. Nathan was always quick with a hug and a compliment, and never met a stranger. He had a natural charm that won him many friends. All those who knew Nathan were familiar with his big smile and big heart.

He also loved his many aunts, uncles and cousins, his girlfriend Jackie Nay, and his cousin and best friend Bert Atkinson. Nathan will be greatly missed and remembered by them all.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg with Rev. John Longfellow officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the funeral home.

Barbara J. Loughry

Barbara J. Loughry, 58, of Mineral Wells passed away Friday, May 29, 2009.

She was born Sept. 6, 1950, in Erwin, W.Va., a daughter of Edith Sheets Wolford of Erwin and the late Hess Wolford.

Barbara was a homemaker who enjoyed hummingbirds, yard sales, coupon shopping, bingo and baking. Most of all, she enjoyed spoiling her grandsons. She was a member of American Legion Post 15 Ladies Auxiliary in Parkersburg.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Roger L. Loughry; one son, Roger L. Loughry Jr. and wife, Shari, of Washington, W.Va.; two grandsons, Jacob and Samuel; three sisters, Mary Ann Nice and Janet Masters, both of Rowlesburg, W.Va., and Loretta Stone of Newburg, W.Va.; and five brothers, Jim Wolford of Ohio, Conley Wolford of Kingwood, W.Va., Kermit and Randall Wolford of Rowlesburg, W.Va. and Mike Wolford of Morgantown, W.Va.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a half-brother, Walter Sheets; and an infant brother and sister.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike Street, south Parkersburg, with Pastor Lloyd Keith officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009 and until service time Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at the funeral home.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of choice.
