Glenn Tope Miller

Glenn Tope Miller of The West Virginia Masonic Home, Parkersburg, W.Va., born Aug. 30, 1915, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at the West Virginia Masonic Home.

He was born in Carroll County, Ohio, a son of the late Ross and Lulu Miller. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in education in 1937 and taught school in St. Marys, W.Va. He married Iris Mitchell in St. Marys on Nov. 23, 1939. On Oct. 9, 1942, he enlisted in The Armed Forces, serving 37 months, of which 23 were spent in the European Theatre.

On his return, he served as the acting superintendent of the West Virginia Training School, St. Marys.

For the balance of his career, he was primarily engaged in the grocery field. He was active in the forming of the Big Red Markets Co-op in Parkersburg, which he managed for several years.

He then managed several grocery super markets until he opened his own store in Devola, Glenn's Foods Inc., dba Hasty Shopper, in November 1966. He retired and sold the store in September 1980, to Mr. Dennis Cook.

He was a member of the Putnam Congregational Church of Devola and served on many boards and committees. He was a member of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives). He had an advanced license from the Federal Communications Commission as an amateur radio operator. His call letters were N8FGD and he was proud to have contacted over 300 countries. In his 70's, he could still be seen on his roof running around to adjust his antenna to get that one extra contact. He was a member of Parkersburg Masonic Lodge No. 169.

Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Whether that was a holiday for cranking out homemade ice cream or piling everyone into the car to take a trip, it was always about family. There was nothing that he enjoyed more than taking the car and finding a road to travel with his family.

Surviving are one daughter, M. Elaine Flanagan and husband, Fred, of Livonia, Mich.; one son, John C. Miller and wife, Sharon, of Marietta, Ohio; four grandchildren, Hilary Flanagan, Sarah Miller, Adam Miller and Becca Miller; one great-grandson, Sawyer Miller; and many loved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Iris Mitchell Miller; both parents; two brothers, Ralph C. Miller and Brice K. Miller; one sister, Lois Miller Hutton; and cousin, Charles Miller Knight.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from noon until time of services Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Putnam Congregational Church, Devola, Marietta.

Eula Jean Ritton

Eula Jean Ritton, 79, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away July 14, 2009, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Wood County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Kelsie E. and Esta V. Evans Boice.

Eula was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, had worked at Johns Manville and was a homemaker. She loved being with her grandchildren and attending their ball games. She enjoyed the outdoors and working with flowers and was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Vienna.

She is survived by five children, Faith Wheeler, Terry Ritton and Rollie Ritton, all of Vienna, W.Va., John Ritton (Kimberly) of Auburn, Neb., and Roger Ritton (Cheryl) of Bremen, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Carlissa and William Whitlatch and Adam, Antony, Hannah, Alex, Ashley and Kati Ritton; four great-grandchildren; and an aunt, Evelyn Dewees of Washington, W.Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Ritton; one brother, Carl Boice; and one sister, Beatrice Santee.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2009 at the Faith Baptist Church, Vienna, W.Va. with Pastor James Yoke officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 3005 Grand Central Ave. Vienna, W.Va. and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Ernest R. Williams

Ernerst Randolph Williams, 65, of Belpre, Ohio passed away Monday, July 13, 2009.

He was born March 23, 1944 in Canton, Ohio a son of Louise M. Mayle Williams of Belpre, Ohio and the late Daniel B. Williams.

Ernest retired from the U.S. Navy after 26 years. He worked part-time for Wal-Bon Corp. He attended the Lighthouse Temple in Belpre where he was a former Sunday school teacher. He was co-owner of Kreative Property Investments in Belpre. Ernest enjoyed hunting, was a member of the N.R.A. and the V.F.W. of Parkersburg, WV.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his fiancé, Cindy Morrison of Vienna, W.Va; one daughter, Julie Leinaala Williams of Columbus, Ohio; ;two sons, Ernest Dan Williams and Kawika Keone Williams of Belpre, Ohio; five sisters, Janie Car of Belpre, Ohio, Leana Springer (Charles) of Parkersburg, W.Va., Loretta Reams (Vernon) of Belpre, Ohio, Zelda Ward of Columbus, Ohio, and Deanna Jentzen (Brian) of Phoenix, Arizona; one brother, Johnnie Williams of Phoenix, Arizona; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Ernest will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Blvd. Belpre, Ohio with Pastor Vernon Reams officiating. Burial will follow in Rockland Cemetery in Belpre with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Herbert B. Irvine

Herbert B. Irvine, 65, of Belpre, Ohio passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2009, at Heartland of Marietta after his battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

He was born March 15, 1944, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late Gilbert B. Irvine and Margaret (Scalf) Irvine.

Herb was an auto mechanic and was in building maintenance for several years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era, was a member of the V.F.W. Post 5108 of Marietta, American Legion Post 64, Disabled American Veterans, a member of the Belpre Lodge 609 and 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Mid-Ohio Valley Ostomy Group, Parkersburg. Herb enjoyed bowling, camping and old country music.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Kathleen "Kathy" Irvine; two sons, Keith Allen Irvine of Reno, Nev., and Rex Christopher Irvine of Carson City, Nev.; two sisters, Mary Irvine of Cutler, Ohio, and June Britton of Newark, Ohio; one brother, Harry Irvine of Belpre, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Austin and Tomie Irvine of Carson City, Nev., and Rebecca and Devin Spencer of Belmont, W.Va.

Memorial services will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 1305 Washington Blvd. Belpre, Ohio with Pastor Jack Berry and Tom Leasure officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Gary F. McCrady

Gary Franklin McCrady died on July 10, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 28, 1933, the son of the late Harry Ferrell McCrady and Mary Alice (Smith) Boles. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Karen Wharton McCrady; five children; eleven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Surviving children and their families include: Lynn Williams of Vienna, W.Va. and her two daughters, Lindsey and Kristin; David B. McCrady of Florida; Kathryn Lowers of Tuscon, Ariz., and her daughters, Jill and Shannon, and great-grandson Joaquin; Master Sgt. James R. Williams and wife, "George" Williams, and their children Zachary, Stewart, Lauren, Maxine and "JoJo"; Andrea Nicole Ruppenthal and husband, Ryan, of Parkersburg, W.Va. and their children who "Hey-Dad" called his special, Cassidy Taylor, and his little red-headed gnoff, Madison Ryen.

Surviving siblings include Loretta Roberts, Mary Elizabeth Moncrief and Ellen Pickens, all of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and one special sister-in-law, Linda Bush of Parkersburg, W.Va.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Sue Davis.

Mr. McCrady was a 1951 graduate of Parkersburg High School. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1973. While serving in the military he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three battle stars, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Bronze Star. Following his retirement he began a second career with Pennzoil and retired from that position in 1989.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, W.Va. with the Rev. Dr. William R. Thomas officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with full military honors conducted by the 88th Mission Support Group from the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Friends may call from 9 a.m. - Noon and from 1 - 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

It is requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society of Parkersburg.

James L. Rollyson

James Leslie Rollyson, 78, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away July 10, 2009 at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 10, 1930, in Chardon, Ohio, a son of the late Henry Abel and Zylpha Alberta Wayt Rollyson.

James was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force and served in the National Guard. He retired from the B & O - CSX Railroad as a Brakeman. He was a Baptist by faith.

He is survived by his wife Sara Lenore Given Rollyson, one son, Michael Stephen (Jeanette) Rollyson of Menifee, Calif.; two daughters, Deborah Ann (Clyde) Ketterman and Kris Lea Rollyson both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two brothers, Charles Ray Rollyson of Eleanor, W.Va. and Robert Eugene Rollyson of Canton, OH; one sister, Lillian Zylpha Vilk of Cleveland, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Timothy, Kerri, Michelle, Stacie, Kristopher, Bernie, Jamie, Cynthia and Sonya; fourteen great-grandchildren, Codie, Calia, Kayla, Cadence, Katelyn, Alexis, Molly, Jordan, Jaden, Macey, Bailey, Emma, Alexandria and Mark; and two very caring special friends, Pam Starcher and her daughter Sara Beth Lambiotte of Parkersburg, W.Va.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Maurice Rollyson; one son, James Kenneth Rollyson; and one daughter, Donna Lynn Rollyson.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 13, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg with Pastor Doug Guinn officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, at the funeral home.

Dennie W. Myers, Jr.

Dennie Wilmer Myers Jr., 76, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away July 8, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 15, 1932 in Jackson County, W.Va., the son of the late Dennie W. and Elizabeth Martin Myers.

He was an Eagle Scout, an expert master of the bullwhip, a graduate of PHS, and a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Korean War era. He was retired from American Cyanamid after nearly 25 years of service, was the owner of the Dennie Myers Tree Service and previously delivered Meals-on-Wheels in his spare time. He had a special place in his heart for his dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Norma J. Myers, whom he married on Aug. 30, 1957; two daughters, Vicki James and her husband, David Barber of Sterling, Va., and Patricia Jividen and her husband, Gregory of Frederick, Md.; two grandchildren, Grace Jividen and Thomas Jividen, both of Frederick, Md.; and one younger brother, Edgar Myers of Shorewood, Wis.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Myers; and one sister.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg with Pastor Kurt Busiek officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday and from 12:30 p.m. to time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Norman W. Frazier

Norman W. Frazier, 74, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away July 9, 2009, at his residence.

He was born June 4, 1935, in Wood County, W.Va., the son of the late George H. and Justine Wharton Frazier.

He was a 1954 graduate of Parkersburg High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Norman was a former owner and manager of Hornor and Harrison Clothing, had owned Norman's Fashions for Men and retired after many years as a self-employed salesman.

Norman was a past director of the Jaycee's, a past director of the Parkersburg Chamber of Commerce, president of the Parkersburg Retail Merchant's Association from 1967-1968, belonged to the Rotary, was a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks 198, belonged to the Blennerhassett Yacht Club and was a member of American Legion Post 15.

He is survived by one daughter, Leslie Anne Richmond of Flat Top, W.Va.; and three sisters, Lois Cunningham of Harrisville, Pa., Sue Cosco (Don) of Venice, Fla., and Joyce Mendenhall (David) of Mineral Wells, W.Va.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, with the Rev. Norman Butler officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen North Cemetery with full military rites by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Kathleen L. Sims

Kathleen L. Sims, 88, of Parkersburg, passed away July 7, 2009, at the Marietta Care & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born May 5, 1921, in Wood County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Oscar B. and Clara O. Marks Deem. She was a homemaker, a member of the Lubeck Ave. Baptist Church and a member of the Woodmen of the World.

Kathleen is survived by her five children, Lewis A. Sims of Washington, W.Va., Josephine I. Fetch, Charlotte A. Dowler and Rhonda Hanshaw, all of Parkersburg, and William B. Sims of Mineral Wells; one brother, Jack Deem of Portsmouth, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry N. Sims; two daughters, Tina and Darlene Sims; one son, Ronald L. Sims; one grandson, Michael Nelson Hanshaw; two brothers, Roy and Kyle Deem; and three sisters, Lela Deem, Helen Wright and Joann Schreckengost.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Green St., Parkersburg, with Pastor Jim Lynch officiating. Interment will follow at the Two Ripple Cemetery, Wirt County. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society or the Salvation Army.

Rosa M. LaRue

Rosa M. LaRue, 96, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away July 9, 2009 at Parkersburg Care and Rehabilitation Center (Sunbridge).

She was born December 31, 1912, in Newark, W.Va., a daughter of the late Abraham Lincoln and Carolyn Morris Gabbert.

Rosa was formerly employed at the American Viscose Company and attended South Parkersburg Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, William R. LaRue and his wife, Janet of Parkersburg, W.Va; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William D. LaRue; one son, Thomas G. LaRue; one daughter, Linda Kay Lyons; one grandson, Michael P. LaRue; 6 brothers; five sisters.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg with Rev. Joe Busch officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, at the funeral home.

Sibyl M. Rowan

Sibyl M. Chancey Rowan, 89, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away July 6, 2009, at Ohio Valley Health Care in Parkersburg, W.Va.

She was born in Leroy, W.Va., a daughter of William Harrison Chancey and Tennie Davis Chancey. At the age of four, her parents moved to Vienna, where she spent the remaining years of her life. She was a long time member of the Vienna Baptist Church, past matron of the Vienna Chapter 151 Order of the Eastern Star, charter member of the Vienna Woman's Club, former member of the Parkersburg Business and Professional Women's Club, past president of the Lambda Chi Omega Sorority, long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and past president of the Cotarie Club.

She is survived by three children, Sharlene Heinselman of Mineral Wells, W.Va., Kenneth W. Rowan (Janice) of Lowell, Ohio, and Rodney Wayne Rowan (Ronda) of Roanoke, Va.; one sister, Garnet M. Thomas of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one grandson, Richard Scott (Melanie) of Portland, Ore.; three granddaughters, Angela Stuckert (Robert) of Barlow, Ohio, Melissa Keller (Steve) and Susan Cole (Billy) of Roanoke, Va.; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Emerson Ayers; her second husband, Frank Hayes Rowan; one infant son; sisters, Opal Lambert, Velma Taylor and Doris Ingle; one grandson, Randall Mark Scott; two granddaughters, Tammy Sue Rowan and Cynthia Anne Rowan; and one great-grandson, Steven Keller.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. with Dennis Pratt officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen North Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Eastern Star services will be conducted by Order of Eastern Star Vienna Chapter 151 at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
