Otis Leon Patterson

Otis Leon Patterson, 85, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away Sept. 21, 2009, at the Worthington Manor Nursing Facility.

He was born Sept. 7, 1924, in Kenna, W.Va., a son of the late James C. and Elva Casto Patterson. Otis was retired from Elkem Metals after 32 1/2 years of service, where he was a crane operator, certified welder and coal handler. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in World War II, where he was in the Armed Guard Unit. Otis was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed planting trees, flowers and gardening.

Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Mary B. Sinnett Patterson; one daughter, Deloris (Larry) Sayre of Racine, Ohio; three sons, Paul L. Patterson of Vienna, W.Va., Randall (Debbie) Patterson of Davisville, W.Va., and Roger (Tina) Patterson of Dallison, W.Va.; one brother, Victor (Karen) Patterson of Deerwalk, W.Va.; one sister, Isabelle Corra of Vienna, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Sherry, Jacob, Randall and Rebecca; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Patterson; one daughter, Leann Patterson; one daughter-in-law, Melinda Patterson; and one brother, Lavere Patterson.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. with Pastor Chuck Ferrell and Pastor Shawn Hall officiating. Interment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Ann Yarnell

Elizabeth Ann Yarnell, 81, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away Sept. 21, 2009, at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

She was born May 12, 1928, in Cambridge, Ohio, a daughter of the late Maurice E. and Mamie Masqulier Lagneaux. Elizabeth was retired from Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council (M.O.V.R.C.), where she was a program manager. She was a member of the Wayside United Methodist Church and enjoyed reading, traveling and socializing.

Elizabeth is survived by her four children, Sally (David) Bond of Litchfield, Ariz., Jerry (Mary) Yarnell of Indianapolis, Ind., Teresa (Wayne) Satterfield of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Jackie (Alan) Eaton of Gainesville, Ga.; one sister, Anita (Don) Humphery of Byesville, Ohio; one brother, Merle (Georgianna) Lagneaux of Bloomington, Ind.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; friends at Pleasantview Towers, Dot Butcher and Jackie and Wayne Longmire; and Karen Matthews and friends at M.O.V.R.C.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, E.W. Wally Yarnell on June 24, 1984.

Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 at the Wayside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. T. Patrick Kerr and the Rev. Dr. Michael Richards officiating.

Cremation services have been entrusted to the Lambert-Tatman Funeral and Cremation Services, 3005 Grand Central Ave. Vienna, W.Va.

Christopher W. Monroe

Christopher W. Monroe, 44, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away Sept. 18, 2009, at his residence.

He was born in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of Raymond R. Monroe (Marcia) of Washington, W.Va., and Patty L. Barr Crouch of Waverly, W.Va.

Christopher graduated from Parkersburg High School and West Virginia University. After graduation, he worked for Fahlgren and Martin, Simonton Windows, Ames Co. and Alliance Industries, was a member of the Blennerhassett Radio Control Club, enjoyed fishing and flying airplanes and attended Fellowship Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Sandra Stagg Monroe; two sons, Sean and Michael Monroe, both of the home; one brother, Robert Monroe of Waverly, W.Va.; one niece; two nephews; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and several uncles and aunts.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; stepfather; and one aunt.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. with Pastor Jon Lands officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Eugenia V. Terrell

Eugenia V. Terrell, 88, of Parkersburg, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2009, at the Willows Center. She was born October 20, 1920, in Wood Co., W.Va., a daughter of the late Bruce and Mettie Mae Mullen Campbell.

Mrs. Terrell was a homemaker and had formerly been employed with Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in the Pediatrics Unit. She was Baptist by faith.

Surviving are four daughters, Willa Jean Barker (William), Charlotte Tanner (Ray), Nancy Samples (John), and Karen Jackson (Donald); four sons, David Farnsworth, Robert Farnsworth (Sharon), Wayne Farnsworth (Norma), and Lloyd Brown (Brenda); one sister, Janice Brannon; twenty-three grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Farnsworth; her second husband, Harold Terrell; one son, Ronald C. Farnsworth; and three brothers.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11AM Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., South Parkersburg, with Mr. Jim Lynch officiating. Interment will follow at the Kanawha Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8PM on Monday, September 21, 2009, at the funeral home.

Patricia Clevenger Depue

Patricia Clevenger Depue, 74, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away on Sept. 16, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born Sept. 2, 1935, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Arden Warden Sr. and Esta Cottrill Clevenger. Mrs. Depue was a homemaker and belonged to the Daughters of The Nile, Grottoettes and the New Hope Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Jarrett Depue; one son, Carl Depue and wife Linda of Harrisburg, N.C.; one daughter, Cheryl Cottrill and husband Jon, also of Harrisburg, N.C.; four grandsons; one half-sister, Ann Moore of Texas; one half-brother, Doug Clevenger of Lubeck, W.Va.; and one step brother, Judson Bailey of California.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Hobe, Ward and Gene Clevenger.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va., with Rev. Shawn Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, and one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. David Cramer, M.K. Shaw and the nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Dolly M. Heck

Dolly M. Heck, 88, of Walker passed away Sept. 16, 2009 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born Sept. 8, 1921 in Walker, a daughter of the late Floyd Calvin and Sophia Nelson Modesitt. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, needlepoint and crafting. Dolly has been a member of Walker United Methodist Church since she was 12 years old.

She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Ware (David) of Parkersburg and Mary Pyne (Sam) of Lindside, WV; two sons, Robert Heck and Philip Heck both of Parkersburg; four sisters, Blanche Rodeheaver and Katie Spears of Parkersburg, and Bonnie McClung and Jean Green of Davisville; one brother, John Modesitt of Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Nathan and Tim Ware, Robert Heck Jr., and Brenna and Daniel Pyne; a step-grandchild, Sam Pyne Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Anna and Alex Ware; several nieces and nephews; and several friends.

In addition to her parents, Dolly was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice F. Heck who passed away June 4, 1993; and three brothers, Floyd Jr, Howard, and George Modesitt.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg with Rev. Rodney Blanchard and Rev. Jamie Sprague officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Walker. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Goldie Titus

Goldie Titus, 72, of Davisville, W.Va., passed away Sunday, September 13, 2009, at her residence.

She was born September 22, 1936, in Lost Creek, W.Va., a daughter of the late Charles H. and Naomi White Sinnett.

Goldie retired as a secretary to the Treasurer of the Mt. View Conference and was a member of 7th Day Adventist.

She is survived by one son, Dewain (Teresa) Titus Jr. of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; one step-grandson, Justin Titus; two sisters, Irene Sheppard of Davisville, W.Va. and Virginia (Bob) Richards of Kincheloe, W.Va.; one brother, Charles (Lynda) Sinnett of Centerburg, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Benear and Thurman Benear.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg, with Elder Larry Boggess, Elder Daniel Morikone and Elder Randall Murphy officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Kincheloe, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, at the funeral home.

Shawn Edward Riffle

Shawn Edward Riffle, born October 7, 1975, died by accident on Wednesday, September 9, 2009.

He was a fun loving and good hearted person. He enjoyed the outdoors, movies, music, and having fun with friends. He will be missed by family, friends, and all who know him as a person who loved a good time.

He is survived by his loving girlfriend, Mary Hapney; six sisters, Dianna Cain (Larry) of Marietta OH, Gloria Kinney (Rob) of Roanoke VA, Donna Moon (Larry) of Harvest AL, Linda Hammond (Tim) of Parkersburg WV, Tina Smith (Steve) of Newman GA, and Tammy Cline (David) of New Matamoras OH; one brother, Douglas Henthorn (Sandy) of Ashland OH; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Mae Riffle, and his father, Hoyt Edward Riffle.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. For details regarding services, friends may call Shawn's sister at 740-864-2284. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, is assisting the family of Shawn with arrangements

Samuel Leroy Fox

Samuel Leroy Fox, 70 of Parkersburg, W.Va. went home to be in the arms of the Lord on September 13, 2009.

He was born May 8, 1939 in Parkersburg, the son of the late Cecil L. and Elizabeth Louise Humphrey Fox. Sam graduated from Parkersburg High School and served in the Army Reserves during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from AB Chance Company; was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church; and enjoyed his favorite past-time of fishing, the outdoors, and his dog Cocoa. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Sam is survived by four brothers, Mike and Becky Fox of Waverly, W.Va., Fred Fox of Belpre, Ohio, Wayne Fox of Indiana and Bill and Linda Fox of Vienna, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews; and his caregiver and special friend, Faith Beha.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Carol J. Cunningham Fox in 2008; and one brother, Paul Fox of Elkhart, Indiana.

There will be no funeral or visitation per Sam's request, Lambert-Tatman Funeral and Cremation Services, 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, W.Va. is assisting the family with arrangements.

Donations may be given to the Parkersburg Urban Ministries c/o St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 11th and Market Street, Parkersburg, WV. 26101.

Glen B. Gainer Jr.

Glen B. Gainer Jr., 82, of Parkersburg, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Glen was born July 4, 1927, in Parkersburg, a son of the late Glen B. Gainer Sr. and Nettie Elizabeth Smith Gainer.

Glen was a 1945 graduate of Parkersburg High School and was a graduate of Marietta College. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and. Glen was a longtime public servant starting his career as a school teacher and coach in the Wood County and Warren Local School Systems. He served as mayor of Parkersburg from 1968 to 1970 and retired as West Virginia State Auditor, serving from 1977-1993. He is survived by his wife, Sally Padgett Gainer, who he married Oct. 31, 1955; one daughter, Beth Criss and her husband, Chris; one son, Glen B. Gainer III and his wife, Susan, all of Parkersburg, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Corey Criss, John Gainer, Caitlyn Criss and Joshua Gainer; and one great-granddaughter, Sophie Loen Gainer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John David Gainer; and one brother, Thomas Gainer.

Funeral services for Glen will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Parkersburg with the Rev. Richard McClure and the Rev. Gerald Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be sent to First Baptist Church, Ninth and Market Streets, Parkersburg, WV 26101. Envelopes will be provided by the funeral home.

Bertha Jane Gordon

Bertha Jane Gordon, 90, of Point Pleasant, W.Va., formerly of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Sept. 8, 2009, at the Pleasant Valley Hospital, Point Pleasant.

She was born Jan. 7, 1919, in Ritchie County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Walter and Mary May McNemar Layfield. Mrs. Gordon was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, quilting and also fishing.

She is survived by one son, Gary Gene Gordon of Cheshire, Ohio; two sisters, Lucy Layfield and Marion McPherson; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 1/2 years, Cleo William Gordon; two daughters; one son; one sister; and two brothers.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va., with the Rev. W.D. Minney officiating. Interment will follow at the Layfield Cemetery, Cairo, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Dennis C. Sheppard

Dennis C. 'Shep' Sheppard, 51, of Davisville, W.Va. passed away Sept. 7, 2009 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 13, 1957 in Parkersburg, a son of Irene G. Benear Sheppard of Davisville and the late Dale L. Sheppard. Dennie was a self-employed barber for many years and had previously worked at A.B. Chance for 20 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #3; was vice president of the Kanawha Improvement Association; and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and bluegrass music. His wit and humor will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dennie is survived by his mother; his loving companion, Terry Lewis; a sister, Janet Buchanan of Charleston, W.Va.; and a brother, Rev. Dale E. Sheppard (Kay) of Follansbee, W.Va. He is also survived by his extended family, mother-in-law, Maxine Lewis of Ellenboro, W.Va.; Steve and Kim Lewis, David and Nancy Broce of Ellenboro, Jackie and Frank Hall of Harrisville, W.Va.; and Jason and Kristie Campbell of Ellenboro, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews; and his dog Tisha.

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Sheppard; and father-in-law, Dan Lewis.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Rev. Dale E. Sheppard officiating. Burial will follow at the Ellenboro-Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
