Glen E. Souther

Glen E. "Lightning" Souther, 87, of Parkersburg, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 13, 1921, in Rosemont, W.Va., a son of the late William Earl and Grace Jane Schrader Souther.

Glen was a World War II veteran serving in the Army/Air Force. He retired from Johns Manville after 25 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Lodge 3 A.F. & A.M., Nemesis Shrine Temple and VFW 8127. Glen attended Calvary Memorial Church and was an avid golfer playing on the Worthington Men's Senior League.

He is survived by one daughter, Cheri Adams (Dan) and one son, Stanley G. Souther (Jean), all of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one sister, Marjorie George of Davisville, W.Va.; one brother, Furman "Pony" Souther of Vienna, W.Va.; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathryn Young Souther; two sisters, Evelyn Thorne and Frances "Peg" Young; one brother, Robert Lyle Souther; and one grandson.

Funeral services for Glen will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Dr. Scott Souther, Pastor Rob Collins and Pastor Robert May officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Wayne Ivan DeLancey

Wayne Ivan DeLancey, 61, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away September 6, 2009 at the Camden Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born December 29, 1947 in Marietta, Ohio, a son of the late Lawrence and Betsy Rae Barton DeLancey. Wayne was a Navy Veteran having served during the VietNam Era and was retired from Avery Label Corporation in Calif. He enjoyed woodworking; enjoyed music and playing his guitar; was an animal lover and loved spending time with his family. Wayne was a member of the United Methodist Church, Parkersburg.

Surviving is his wife, Claudette Allman DeLancey; one daughter, Shawna Rae Swaringen and husband Brad of Salisbury, N.C.; one son Eric Gilley DeLancey of Louisiana; two sisters, Linda West and Michelle DeLancey both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Kayla Renee Swaringen, Madalyn Elizabeth Swaringen, Julienne Abigail Swaringen, and Austin Michael Baker; his beloved dog, Blu; and his extended family and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Dawn DeLancey.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Joe Ward officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, Belpre with full military rites by the American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Thomas Clinton Reed

Thomas Clinton Reed, 87, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at his residence.

He was born in Sherman, W.Va., a son of the late Thomas H. and Emma D. Dernberger Reed. He retired in 1985 from Corning Glass, served in the United States Air Force during World War II, attended Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and loved horses, gardening and outdoor activities.

Tom is survived by a sister-in-law, Joan Snider of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a son-in-law, Bob Gunnoe of Elizabeth, W.Va.; two grandchildren, April Dawn Gunnoe and Ashley Elizabeth Gunnoe, both of Elizabeth, W.Va.; two nephews, Mark Sims and Tom Evans; and one niece, Cynthia K. Harris.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Beulah Reed (2008); two daughters, Teresa Ann Reed (1998) and Karen Sue Gunnoe (1999); one brother, Woodrow Reed; and two sisters, Bertha Shears and Hazel Evans.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va., with Pastor Brian Long officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 15, Parkersburg. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jackson Scott Wilkens-Koon

Jackson Scott Wilkens-Koon, infant son of Justin Scott Koon and Stephanie Wilkens, passed away Sept. 2, 2009 at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by maternal grandparents, Kirk and Taunia Bowman and Robert J. Wilkens; his paternal grandparents, Les Koon and Sherry Dennis; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg, with Mr. Jim Lynch officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday, September 8th, at the funeral home.

Bertha M. "Maggie" Wilson

Bertha Margaret "Maggie" Wilson, 93, of Parkersburg, W.Va., died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Eagle Pointe Nursing Facility.

She was born Feb. 26, 1916 in Pennsylvania a daughter of the late Richard N. and Bertha Dotson Webb. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Maggie is survived by her caregiver and niece, Reta Sims of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson; a sister, Virginia Frazier; three brothers, Harvey Webb, Richard Webb and Walter Webb; and a cousin, Florence Mason.

Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday. Sept. 8, 2009 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Father Eric Hall officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va.

James W. Litton

James W. Litton, 89, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at the Parkersburg Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Roane County, W.Va., a son of the late Perry Virgil and Hattie Drake Litton.

James was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who was a Staff Sergeant serving in the Panama Canal Zone. He retired from G.E., was a member of South Parkersburg Baptist Church and enjoyed gospel music, playing his guitar, working on cars and fishing.

He is survived by one daughter, Frances Bethel, and husband, Michael, of Holly Hill, Fla.; one son, Rich Litton, and wife, Carolyn, of Cape Coral, Fla.; two sisters, Hazeline Furr, of Lakewood, Ohio, and Arlene Wilson, of Magnolia, Ark.; five grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vera B. Lowther Litton; three sisters; and three brothers.

Funeral services for James will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009 at the South Parkersburg Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Busch officiating. Burial with full military honors by Parkersburg Post 15 of the American Legion will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg.

Evelyn M. Williams

Evelyn Marie Barnett Williams, the eldest of two children born to Ralph and Helen Barnett, was born on June 26, 1926, in Parkersburg, W.Va.

She attended public school in Vincent, Ohio, and graduated from Vincent High School. Both parents and her brother, Ralph Dean Barnett, preceded her in death.

Evelyn lived a long and fruitful life. She attended Ohio University, where she earned an undergraduate degree in sociology. While pursuing her undergraduate studies, she met and married a fellow student, James R. Williams. The family settled in Cleveland, Ohio, where they were blessed with one son, P. Mark Williams, M.D. Evelyn continued her education in graduate studies at Case Western Reserve University.

She was a loyal employee of The Fisher Corporation, prior to her tenure with the Cleveland Public School System (Adult Education Division) where she worked steadfastly for many years before retiring in June 1987. She was well-respected by all of her students and colleagues. She made a significant contribution to the lives of the young women in the Unwed Mothers Program.

After retirement, Evelyn enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends, attending church services, taking computer and dance classes, reading, completing crossword puzzles and watching college and professional sporting events. She was an avid Cleveland Cavaliers and Browns fan. Her fondness for chocolate was legendary. She was a faithful member of Olivet Institutional Baptist Church.

Evelyn peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Mark; one granddaughter, Brooke; daughter-in-law, Lydia Reeder; cousins, Betty Barnett, Miriam Barnett, Garnet Barnett, Ruth Barnett, Lorraine Pitts, Sandra Tate and Edward Tate; nieces, Joan Mayle and Elizabeth Barnett; nephews, Edward Tate and Ernest Hill; dear friend, Clara Moore; and a host of other great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, cousins and many beloved friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Blvd., Belpre, Ohio with the Rev. Charles Grays officiating. Burial will follow in Rockland Cemetery, Belpre.

Darrell W. "Froggie" Warden

Darrell W. "Froggie" Warden, 87, of Vienna, W.Va., passed away Sept. 1, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Clarksburg, W.Va., son of the late Raymond C. and Mae Davis Warden. Froggie was a Navy Seabee veteran having served in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, he worked as an electrician at E.I. DuPont, where he retired after 25 years. During this same time, he was also the electrical inspector for the city of Vienna. After his retirement from DuPont, he traveled the country working as a journeyman electrician. Froggie was a member of the Vienna Baptist Church, a Vienna volunteer fireman and city councilman, a member of the American Legion Post 15 and the Worthington Senior Golf League. He was also a Little League Umpire, small fry basketball coach, president of the Neale School PTA and an avid golfer and W.Va. football fan.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Marion B. Warden; one son, Donald Warden and wife, Deanna, of The Villages, Fla.; one daughter, Barbara Ryan and husband, Edward, of Las Vegas, Nev.; one brother, Warren Warden of Palm Harbor, Fla.; six grandchildren, Tracy Vasquez, Shelby Schwarzweller, Andrea Bachelor, Jason Ryan, Tracie Rather and Erin Perez; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. with the Rev. Montgomery Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen North Cemetery with full military honors by the American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Kenneth R. Kirby

Kenneth Richard Kirby, 54, of Cottonwood, Tenn., passed away August 28, 2009 at his residence after an extended illness.

He was born October 11, 1954, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of Russell and Lucille Kirby of Mineral Wells, W.Va.

Kenny attended Parkersburg South High School with the class of 1973 and attended WVU-Parkersburg. He was a veteran of the US Air Force during the Vietnam War era. He had been employed by Challenger of Parkersburg and Gray Construction Company of Glasgow, Ky.

He is survived by his parents, his wife of 30 years, Ann Kirby; one daughters, Kelly Kirby of Tenn.; a special relative, Penny Rogers of Vincent, Ohio; one step-daughter, Kristy (Dan) Jarvis of Tenn.; two step-grandchildren, Tyler and Nicole Jarvis; two sisters, Cynthia (Delbert) McClung of Vincent, Ohio and Tammy Kirby-Leftridge of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; one half sister Diane Kirby-Summers of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; two nieces; and several aunts and uncles.

Kenny was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ira Russell and Zetta Kirby and a special friend, Robert Gifford.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St. south Parkersburg with Jim Lynch officiating with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. Family will receive friends from noon until time of service at the funeral home.

Paul L. Burchard

Paul L. Burchard, 72, of Sarasota, Fla., passed away August 31, 2009 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 2, 1937 in Wood County, W.Va., a son of the late Charles and Sylvia Burchard. He was retired from Colt Firearms.

Paul is survived by five daughters, Sue Thompson of Fla., Annie Jeffers of Va., Sandy Bessette of Conn., Debra Umsteadt of W.Va., and Cindy Smith of Fla.; three sons, Paul Burchard Jr. of Conn., Charles E. Burchard of Fla., and Jackie Burchard of Conn.; one sister, Joeyce Burchard of W.Va.; one brother, Howard Burchard of W.Va.; eighteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara J. Burchard; one son, Charles L. Burchard; two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg. Interment will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10:00 until time of service on Friday, at the funeral home.

Grace Emrick Dotson

Grace Emrick Dotson passed from this world December 9, 2009. She had been a resident of Parkersburg Care and Rehabilitation (Sunbridge) since August.

She was born at Walker, WV, October 22, 1909 to Lee Hampton Emrick and Amanda Lambert Emrick.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Evangelist R. Ray Dotson. They were married for 72 years. She was preceded in death five brother and three sisters.

She is survived by four daughters, Juanita Newberry (Earl, Jr. deceased), Betty Pfalzgraf (Ed), of Parkersburg, Carolyn Arrington (Wayne) of Charleston, W.Va., and Joyce Lewis (Bill) of Lake Jackson, Tex.

Grace was a member of the Camden Avenue Church of Christ. She had always been a helpmate to her husband as they labored in the vineyard of the Lord for many years throughout the state of West Virginia and Ohio.

Grace was among the first group of women to be employed at the American Viscose plant here in Parkersburg. She was an avid game player and was always eager to help anyone in need. She was a member of the Parkesburg Stepping Stones of Ohio Valley University.

Services will be at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike Street, south Parkersburg on Saturday, December 12, at 11:00 a.m. with Andy Robison officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Love & Care Personal Care Home, 5368 Dupont Road, Parkersburg, WV 26101.
