Anna B. Perdew

Anna B. Perdew, 42, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at her home.

She was born February 11, 1967, in Parkersburg at St. Josephs Hospital, the daughter of Frederick D. Perdew of Parkersburg, W.Va. and the late Gertrude I. Hearn Perdew.

Anna had been employed as a waitress and hostess for several years, having worked at several Parkersburg establishments, including the former Point of View and also the Blennerhassett Hotel Restaurant. She enjoyed sewing, ceramics, and loved to cook. She was Methodist by faith.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her step-mother, Elwanda Perdew; one daughter, Sabrina Swiney; one son, Brandon Perdew; five sisters, Charlene Greathouse (Rick), Marlene Heilmann (Chuck), Marsha Conard (Joe), Beverly Roels (John), and Rose Hoover (Ray); two brothers, Thomas and John Perdew; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends who will all miss her dearly.

Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 12, 2009, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Tony Raffa officiating. The family will receive friends from 12-noon until time of services on Monday at the funeral home.

John W. Buckley, Jr.

John W. Buckley, Jr., 79, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away on Oct. 3, 2009, in Orlando, Fla.

He was born March 3, 1930 in Wood County, W.Va., a son of the late John W. and Edna Lemon Buckley.

John was a retired truck driver from Smith Transport, member of Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge #3, Nemesis Shrine, Scottish Rite and Ben Bey Grotto. He attended Grace Gospel Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Terrilyn (Terry) Lewis of Henderson, W.Va. and Kimberly Dawn (David) Eckhart of Pittsford, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Drew and Dane Eckhart; and one sister, Lucille Smith of Parkersburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Bush Buckley; two former wives, Ruby I. Bower Buckley and Madeline Jackson Buckley; and one brother, Dave Buckley.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to noon Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. Graveside services will be held at Independence Cemetery in Jackson County, W.Va., at 2:00 p.m. with Jim Lynch officiating.

Karen J. Wilson

Karen J. Wilson, 68, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Ernest W. and Talma E. Chichester Wiggins.

Karen was a 1959 graduate of PHS and the Valley Beauty School in Marietta. She worked at the Duo-Art Beauty Salon, was a member of the Valley Mills E.U.B. Church, the Valley Mills Ladies Aid Society, Parkersburg NCO Club Ladies Auxiliary, Big Red Band Boosters and a longtime homeroom mother at Emerson School.

In life, the work that brought her the greatest joy was being a wife and mother to her family.

Karen is survived by her two sons, Darren Wilson (Melissa) and Derek Wilson (April), both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; three sisters, Roberta Monroe of Williamstown, W.Va., Lois Wiggins of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Eleanor Garrett of Boaz, W.Va.; two brothers, Harlan Wiggins and Howard Wiggins, both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and five grandchildren, Abigail, Philip, Olivia, Samuel and Josie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Richard Wilson; one brother, Ernest Wiggins Jr.; one sister, Talma Clark; and infant brother, James.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. with the Rev. John Frum officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mary L. Wine

Mary L. Tucker Wine, 55, 0f Belpre, Ohio passed away Friday, October 2, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born June 23, 1954 in Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter of Ruth Pratt Tucker of Belpre, Ohio and the late Emory Tucker.

Mary was a 1972 graduate of Belpre High School. She was currently a staff assistant at St. Joe's Emergency Room and was previously employed with the WV Dept. of Health and Human Resources, Kingdom Homes of Belpre, Dr. Gabriel Maijub and Pillsbury Corp. She was a member of North Parkersburg Baptist Church and a former board member of the Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Robert 'Bob' Wine; two step-daughters, Lori Wine and Mary Pepper (Dale), all of Vienna, W.Va.; a step-son, David Wine of Gallipolis, Ohio; three sisters, Jean Nicholson of Parkersburg, W.Va., Donna Gaston (Ted) of Belpre, Ohio and Linda Daugherty (Ted) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; three brothers, Raymond Tucker of Belpre, Ohio, Cleveland Tucker (Ann) of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Will Neff (Wilma) of Belpre, Ohio; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Thomas Tucker.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Boulevard, Belpre, Ohio with the Rev. Will Neff officiating. Burial will follow at Rockland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Carleton A. Sperati

Carleton A. Sperati, 91, passed away at his home in Parkersburg, WV on October 3, 2009. He was born September 1, 1918 in Fergus Falls MN, the son of Carsten E. and Martha Johnson Sperati.

Dr. Sperati was graduated from Luther College, Decorah Iowa in 1938 and earned his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Illinois in 1941. On June 1, 1941, he married Eloise Morris in Decorah, Iowa. They were married for 61 years before her death in 2003. Three children were born to this union, C. Robert, William E., and Solveig.

In June of 1941 Dr. Sperati began a 38 year career with the DuPont Company in Arlington, New Jersey, transferred to the Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware in 1950 and to Parkersburg, West Virginia in 1972. He held multiple patents and was instrumental in the research and development of polytetrafluorethylene (TeflonŽ). He retired from DuPont in 1978 as a Research Fellow to become the Stocker Visiting Distinguished Professor at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. Following his time in Athens, he continued to be active in Chemistry through participation in standards organizations (ASTM, ISO) and consulting. He was an active outdoorsman in canoeing, camping and skiing, but the love of his life was music. He began playing flute at the age of 10 and continued playing and conducting in bands, theatre and other musical organizations until age 89. His Wilmington area involvement included conducting the Experimental Station Band and ArdenSingers, and playing in the DuPont Employees Concert Band, Delaware Symphony, Wilmington Opera Society, and chamber music groups. He had been a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Wilmington.

Dr. Sperati was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eloise, one sister and one brother. He is survived by his children, C. Robert and Sondra Sperati of Landenburg, PA, William E. and Elizabeth Sperati, Wilmington, DE, and Solveig Sperati Korte, Vermillion, SD. Seven grandchildren, Christine (Don) Eastburn, John Sperati, Kendra Korte, Kirsten Korte, Jacob Sperati, Joshua (Peggy) Sperati, Rebecca Sperati and 3 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Oct, 7, at the First Lutheran Church, Parkersburg with Rev. Erik Nielsen officiating. Internment will be at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah, Iowa. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be sent to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Wilmington or Luther College Sperati Scholarship Fund, Decorah, Iowa 52101.

Margaret Irene Bush Dunbar

Margaret Irene Bush Dunbar, 84, of Vienna, W.Va., formerly of Springfield, Va., died Oct. 2, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital after a long illness.

She was born August 21, 1925, in Morgantown, W.Va., the daughter of the late Arley and Iva Boyce Bush.

Margaret was a graduate of PHS, class of 1943 and Glenville State College with AB & BS degree in Art and Home Economics. She did graduate work at WVU and OSU receiving her Master's Degree in Education and Home Economics from Marshall College (new University 1958) and Doctorial Studies in Art History at the University of VA. She was an Art Historian and Calligrapher. She retired from teaching after 34 years - teaching elementary through college. She started teaching in a one room school, 1944-1945 at Rowles Run, Calhoun Co., grades 1-8; from 1948-1959 she taught Art in Wood Co. at Fairplains and Franklin Jr. High (now SPHS); 1959-1981 in Fairfax County, Va., where she retired. She was a lifelong member of the Retired National Education Association, Va. and Fairfax County Education Association. She was active in Girl and Boy Scouts for 20 years as a scout leader and instructor. In Va. and W.Va. she worked in the Republican Women Service League, National Federation of Republic Women, a Nation Campaign Advisor and a Charter member of The Republican National Committee. She was a Methodist but had attended South Parkersburg Baptist Church since 1985.

Margaret is survived by two daughters, Charlotte (Bob) Roberts of Parkersburg, and Colleen Dunbar of Boonsboro, Md.; two grandsons, Paul Feldmeyer and financee, Melissa Exton, of Dayton Beach, Fla. and Mark (Rebecca) Feldmeyer, actively deployed from MIRAMA U.S. Marine Base in San Diego, Calif.; two granddaughters, Theresa (David) Dorsey of Charleston, W.Va. and Deborah Lockhart of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; six great-grandchildren, Matthew and Jennifer Wood, Katelyn and Allison Dorsey, all of Charleston, and Robert and Danielle Lockhart of Mineral Wells; three sisters, Christine Miner of Boaz, W.Va., Roberta (David) Wunderluck of Ohio, Donna (Bill) Grogg of Glennville, W.Va.; a sister-in-law, Frances Bush; two brothers, Donald (Karen) Bush of Tanner, Cletus (Naomi) Bush of Boaz; and brother-in-law, Arnold Yoak.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Mayford Dunbar in 1998; her first husband, Wayne Ullom who was killed in an auto accident in 1945; three brothers, James, Robert and Richard Bush; three brothers-in-law, Albert Miner, Paul Weaver and Denver Carpenter; three sisters, Mildred Yoak, Lois Carpenter and Ruby Weaver; and a sister-in-law, Edith Bush.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna with Pastor Joe Busch officiating. Internment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown. Viewing will be 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6 and until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor and friend Gary Nelson of the Sandhill United Methodist Church in Boaz, W.Va. and a special thanks to Al Miner for helping take care of her.

Oral L. Ball

Oral L. "Bud" Ball, 85, of Parkersburg, W.Va., died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born in Spencer, W.Va., a son of the late William Alfred Sr. and Jesse Josephine (Price) Ball.

Bud was a life-long Baptist, having been a member of North Parkersburg Baptist Church for many years and Emmanuel Baptist for the past 15 years. He served terms on the Board of Deacons, Church Building and Finance Committees, as Sunday School teacher of the young boys class. He worked with youth as coach and commissioner in Little League baseball.

Bud was a life-long Democrat, having served on the West Virginia and Wood County Democratic Executive Committees and the Silver-Haired Legislature. He was a member of Parkersburg City Council and served as council president. Bud was on the Alderson-Broaddus Board of Governors, a trustee and on the College Building and Grounds Committee. He was past president of the University of Hard Knocks and a member of the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Gospel Singing Association. Bud was a life-long Mason, a charter member of the Vienna Lodge, a member of the Scottish Rite, a Shriner and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Bud graduated from Spencer High School. He attended Anderson Aircraft School in Nashville, Tenn., just before the start of World War II. During the war, he served in the 8th and 9th Army Air Corps in the European Theater. He was retired from E.I. DuPont, Washington, W.Va.

Bud is survived by his wife of 66 years, Frances S. (Surface) Ball; two sons, Ed (Carol) and Jim (Judi); and a daughter, Johnnie Williams (David), all residing in Parkersburg, W.Va. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Eloise's husband, Melvin Smith; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Jr.; an infant sister, Anna May; and three sisters, Eloise Smith, Frances Cunningham and Claudia Smith.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Parkersburg, W.Va., with Dr. Kurt Busiek, the Rev. David Carpenter and Dr. William Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery, Parkersburg, with full military honors by American Legion Post 15, Parkersburg, and Masonic Rites by Vienna Lodge 172. Visitation is scheduled from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va. and the hour preceding the funeral service Friday at the church.

Flowers are appreciated. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Toby L. Hickman

Toby L. Hickman, 66, of Vienna, W.Va., passed away Sept. 26, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Memorial services will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

George William Scholl

George William (Bill) Scholl, 74, of Vienna, W.Va., passed away Sept. 29, 2009.

He was born in Clarksburg, W.Va., on Nov. 4, 1934, son of George and Ethel Zinn Scholl.

Mr. Scholl graduated from WI High School, Clarksburg, in 1952. He was a Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Godfrey Scholl, whom he married May 11, 1957. Also surviving are a daughter, Machell (Gary) Hague of Marietta, Ohio; a son, Steven (Suzi) Scholl of Vienna, W.Va.; and three grandchildren, Kevin (Lauren) Scholl of Chesapeake, Va., and Corrie and Casey Hague of Marietta, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jerry. He was a member of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, retiring as fire chief in 1985. He was a charter member of VFW Post 8127. He enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida with his friends and family. He attended Cornerstone Gospel Church.

Contributions may be made to Housecalls Hospice, 1226 Market St., Parkersburg, WV 26101.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation services have been entrusted to the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va.

Betty Lou Travis

Betty Lou Travis, 75, of Parkersburg, W.Va., died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at her daughter's residence in Struthers, Ohio.

Betty Lou was born June 11, 1934, in Belleville, W.Va., a daughter of the late John S. and Armeda Marie Flinn Smith.

She was a member of the Grace Brethren Church and had worked in customer service and as a bookkeeper for Best Photo and Nashua Photo, retiring in 1999.

She leaves her husband, Leon D. Travis whom she married Aug. 14, 1952; a son, R. David (Karen) Travis of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Becky L. (Rick) Sugden of Struthers, Ohio; two sisters, Jo Ann (Ralph) Newbanks of Charlotte, N.C., and Donna Jean (Dan) Ciaramella of Fort Myers, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. Friends may call 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, 3901 Briscoe Road, Parkersburg, WV 26104 or to PALS (missionary outreach), 900 Calkins Road, Rochester, NY 14623.

Archey Darrell Price

Archey Darrell Price, 78, of Mineral Wells, West Virginia, formerly of Madison, West Virginia passed away, Sunday, September 27, 2009, at his residence.

He was born October 31, 1930, in Bald Knob, West Virginia, a son of the late Virgil Price and Mae Workman Price.

Archey was a coal miner, a member of the United Mine Workers Local 781. He formerly attended New Hope Baptist Church in Uneeda, West Virginia and served in the United States Army.

He is survived by one son, Dexter Price (Barbara) of Wharton, West Virginia; one daughter, Karen Harger (Gary) of Walbridge, Ohio, five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several brothers and sisters; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, one step-daughter, Thelma Kay DeMoss (Larry) of Parkersburg, West Virginia; several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; his long-time companion, Mandy Malone; and his dog, Taylor Nicole.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Opal Price, five step-children and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held, Friday, October 2, at 11:00 a.m. at the Handley Funeral Home in Danville, West Virginia. Visitation will be at Handley Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. Thursday. Burial will follow in Madison Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 30, 6-8 p.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Boulevard, Belpre, Ohio.
