Ruth Ellen Nesbitt

Ruth Ellen Nesbitt, 88, passed away March 13, 2010 at Eagle Pointe Nursing Home after an extended illness. She was born May 5, 1921, in Charleston, W.Va., a daughter of the late Irvin and Laura Robey Ward and the step-daughter of the late Henry Ward.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Henry C. Nesbitt, Jr. (Hank); daughter, Rhonda Mohan and husband Bob of Long Island, NY; daughter, Judy Province and husband Roger of Rock Hill, SC; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Jones of Shepherdstown, W.Va., David Jones of Long Island, NY, Nick Province of Chapel Hill, NC, and Whitney Tice of Rock Hill, SC; and two great-granddaughters, Aimee and Ally Tice of Rock Hill, SC.

She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She graduated from Sherman High School, Seth, W.Va., with the class of 1939, and Mountain State Business College, 1940. She went to work for former Gov. Matthew Neely of W.Va. in 1940. She followed him to Washington, DC, to work for him as he served as senator and representative in Congress. She later returned to Parkersburg and worked for the IRS until her retirement in 1983. She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Parkersburg.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va., with Rev. Michael R. Seely officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and two hours prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family requests that any memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Parkersburg. The family would like to express their gratitude to Ameritus Hospice.

Norma J. Jones

Norma J. 'Jeanie' Jones, 68, of Rockport, W.Va., went to be with her husband Bill, of 47 years, in heaven.

Jeanie was a beloved wife, mother, friend, cookie baker, and farmer. Jeanie and Bill loved their life on the farm together. Norma also enjoyed her visits from her brother Darrell and nephews Alan and Doug. Jeanie is survived by her daughters, Penny Jones and Sharyn Tallman; son-in-law, Darren; grandchildren, Tyler, Christian and Maria (Punkin Face); and mother, Eloise Gates.

Jeanie was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Gates, from whom she inherited her love of farming.

According to Jeanie's wishes, graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown, W.Va. Family and friends are welcome to attend. For additional information, contact Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va.

Clarence Gene King

Clarence Gene King, 82, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away on March 12, 2010 at Cedar Ridge Center in Sissonville, W.Va.

He was born February 20, 1928, in Vienna, W.Va., a son of Robert Ervine and Leta Dawson King.

Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended Marietta College. He retired from Amoco Oil with over 33 years of service as a lab technician. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling and woodworking. He was a member of the Elks of Parkersburg and attended Bethel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his longtime friend, Veda Rader Shank; one daughter, Jill D. (Thomas) Bumgardner of Pt. Pleasant, W.Va.; one son, Joel Eric King of Woodstock, Ga.; one sister, Gwendolyn G. (Ray) Cole of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Roger L. (Doris Ann) King of Homeland, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Stacy Wigington of Bryan, Tex., Thomas R. (Jennifer) Bumgardner III of Smithfield, Va., and Amanda (Ryan) Haight of Woodstock, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, Morgan Thomas Wigington, Ryland Haight, and Madison Grace, Morgan Grady and Mason Grant Bumgardner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn Allen.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Rev. Randall Kochersperger officiating. Interment will follow at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ralph Alanzo Blessing

Ralph Alanzo Blessing, 74, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away March 11, 2010 at Eagle Pointe Nursing Facility.

He was born May 7, 1935 in Mason County, W.Va. a son of the late Ernest and Nadine Sayre Blessing. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a Baptist by faith. He worked as a truck driver and a bus driver for the Wood County Head Start. He loved music and spending time with his grandson, J.C.

Ralph is survived by two sons, Gary Wayne Blessing and his wife Opal of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Ervin Wayne Blessing of Pt. Pleasant, W.Va.; two sisters, Belva Jordon of Pt. Pleasant, W.Va., and Leona Branden of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Kenneth Blessing of Leon, W.Va.; two grandchildren, J.C. Blessing, and Whitney Parsons; several nieces and one nephew; and his dog, Nikki.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Maye Blessing.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2010 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Jim Lynch officiating. Interment will follow at Anderson Cemetery at Pond Creek, W.Va. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Norma J. 'Jeanie' Jones, 68, of Rockport, W.Va., went to be with her husband Bill, of 47 years, in heaven.

Marvin F. Blair Sr.

Marvin 'Bub' F. Blair Sr., 73 of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away March 10, 2010, at Eagle Pointe Nursing Facility.

He was born November 29, 1936, in Parkersburg, a son of the late Roy and Iva Baker Blair.

Bub was employed as a roofer and contractor and was a US Army veteran. He enjoyed hunting and especially enjoyed playing bingo.

Surviving are three brothers, Delbert Blair (Kathie) of Williamstown, W.Va., Roy Blair and Ralph Blair (Carrie), both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one sister, Sandra Hanlon (Junior) of Williamstown, W.Va.; one daughter, Peggy Pippin of North Carolina; one son, Marvin Blair Jr. of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one step-son, Anthony Blevins of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and several grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Chenoweth Blair; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jack Eugene Archer

Jack Eugene Archer, 81, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away March 9, 2010 at his residence.

He was born Feb. 15, 1929 in Parkersburg a son of the late William 'Bill' and Ruby Henthorn Archer. Jack was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired from Johns-Manville with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his son, Kevin Archer and his wife, Cheryl (Sherry) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two sisters, Lona Coss (Don) of Cambridge, Ohio, and Geneva Knight (John) of Washington, W.Va.; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ursula Burdett Archer; a step-son, Max Monroe; and two brothers, Bill and Dale Archer.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Evergreen North Cemetery with Pastor Tom Blake officiating. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va.

Clinton H. Dotson

Clinton H. 'Sonny' Dotson, 72, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away March 8, 2010 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

He was born April 4, 1937 in Petroleum, W.Va., a son of the late Burl and Stella Varner Dotson. He was retired from Yellow Freight (Teamsters Union 175 & 505) and was a member of Good Shepherd Church. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 172 (Vienna, W.Va.), Scottish Rites, and Ben Bey Grotto.

He is survived by two sons, Gregory H. (Sherry) Dotson of Williamstown, W.Va., and Timothy S. (Brenda) Dotson of St. Marys, W.Va.; one daughter, Julie Moat (Dave Pottmeyer) of Fleming, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Gregory Dotson Jr., Rebecca Collins, Amy Childers, Ashley Dotson, and Robert, Thomas, Amanda and Angie Moat; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Patrick (Jesse) Dotson of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Ann Dotson; his second wife, Susan Dotson; one sister, Barbara Kelley; one brother, Mike Dotson; and an infant sister.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2010 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 3005 Grand Central Ave. Vienna, W.Va. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Masonic Rites by Lodge 172. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Hazel Dell Hoffman

Hazel Dell Hoffman fell asleep in death March 7, 2010. Born at Creston, Wirt County, W.Va. on Dec. 16, 1905, she is the daughter of George Greenlow 'Doc' Wix and Mary Elizabeth Criss Wix. Hazel is the widow of John Charles Hoffman (deceased 1988) and the mother of Guy Eugene Hoffman and James Allen Hoffman (both deceased 1971 and 1990). Hazel has five grandchildren; Leigh Ann (Roger) Full, Pam (Mark) Richards, James (Mary Ann) Hoffman, Michael Hoffman, and David (Ronna) Hoffman. She has many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Hazel is survived by one brother, Robert Wix, of Parkersburg, W.Va. She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, and two brothers.

Hazel was a member of Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, and the 'Lydia' Circle. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Chapter 14 (of Parkersburg), Bethany Shrine #4, and the Ladies' Oriental Shrine & Eastern Star Past Matrons Clubs. She attended Creston School (grades 1-8), and Normal Teachers' College in Fairmont, W.Va. She taught at Pine Alley School in Annamoriah, W.Va., at Big Bend School in Calhoun County, W.Va., and at Monaville School in Logan County, W.Va.

Hazel married John Hoffman on June 8, 1925. She sold cosmetics from home (Mary Kay) and then was employed at Woolen Mills, which made men's clothes, located on 6th Street in Parkersburg.

Hazel was a warm and loving mother and grandmother, and she always created happy, lasting memories for us, while we were growing up. She especially enjoyed family gatherings at her home and at the family farm in Calhoun County, W.Va. Until we see her again, she will be sadly missed.

Visitation at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 400 Green Street Parkersburg, W.Va. will be 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Scott Sears officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Loretta Alice Richards Spellman

Loretta Alice Richards Spellman, 55, of Parkersburg, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2010 at her residence.

She was born January 12, 1955, in Cleveland, OH a daughter of Blonda Richards of Parkersburg and the late Ivan Richards. She was a homemaker.

Loretta was the wife of Roy Spellman, Sr. and mother to Roy (Tiffany) Spellman Jr., Cathy (Brad) Wright, and Teresa Spellman (Tim Elliott).

In addition to her mother, husband and children, she was survived by one brother, Duane Richards; two sisters, Cathy Richards and Melissa (Billy) Joy; sister-in-law, Betty Myers; grandson, Kaleb and another grandchild on the way; and a special family friend, Angie Negie. She also delighted in her nieces and nephews, Brandon, Matt and Allie Joy, Jessi Freed, Danny and Jordan Stemple.

She was preceded in death by her father and several cousins.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St. south Parkersburg with Pastor Bill Law officiating. Interment will follow at Hunt Cemetery in Calhoun County, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, at the funeral home.

Eileen S. Yoak

On March 7, 2010, Eileen Stevens Yoak, 89, went to be with Jesus and to her heavenly home. She passed away peacefully at the home of her niece, Bernita Werner in Belpre, Ohio.

Eileen was born May 17, 1920, in Calhoun Co., W.Va., a daughter of the late Elza and Dora Freed Stevens. She was the loving wife of the late Harold R. Yoak for sixty-five years. She and Harold had one daughter, Connie Sue Morris, who preceded her in death in 2005.

Eileen was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church for a number of years, Eastern Star, and a volunteer at the Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Rebecca Voight (Chris) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mark Hussell (Missie) and John Hussell (Rhonda), both of Point Plesant, W.Va.; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; daughter, Connie; three sisters, Mildred Stevens, Thelma Wade, and Geraldine McCoy; and one nephew, Steve McCoy.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and caregivers of Amedysis Hospice, friends from the Church, and her neighbors for the loving care of Eileen.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11AM Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va., with Pastor Jon Lands officiating. Entombment will follow at the Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 3-7PM on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the funeral home.

Virginia P. VanFossen

Virginia P. (Van) VanFossen, 78, of Washington, W.Va. passed away March 5, 2010 at her residence.

She was born May 11, 1931 in Fayette, Maine a daughter of the late Peryland and Theo Kent Philbrick.

Virginia retired from St. Joseph's Hospital after 39 years of service where she was a registered nurse and nursing supervisor.

She is survived by two sons, James H. VanFossen (Lynn A.) of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Kevin VanFossen (Patricia E.) of Vienna, W.Va.; two daughters, Kathy Laughery (John) of Washington, W.Va., and Robin Jackson of West End, N.C.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James VanFossen; three brothers; and a granddaughter, Tracy Robinson.

Funeral services for Virginia will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2010 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Rev. Keith Hostutler officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and until time of services Monday at the funeral home.
