Betty J. Miller

Betty Joe Miller, 71, died April 16, 2010 at the O.S.U. Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.

She was born Feb. 20, 1939, in Stumptown, W.Va., a daughter of the late Harley and Thelma Godfrey Siers.

She was a 1958 graduate of Calhoun County High School, a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ at Rockport. She enjoyed driving and showing antique cars.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Robert L. Miller; two daughters, Sherry Bartlett and husband, Randy, of Parkersburg, W.Va. and C. Kay Miller of Ostrander, Ohio; one son, William "Brad" Miller and wife, Susan, of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; three sisters, Patricia Vannoy of Mineral Wells, W.Va. and Lois Jean Sears and Carolyn Sue Collins, both of Stumptown, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Nicholas and Adam Miller and Samantha Bartlett; and one great-granddaughter, Ciera Bartlett.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Harry F. Siers.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike Street, south Parkersburg, with Evangelist Steve Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Collins Community Cemetery, Stumptown. The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Patsy A. Eddy Wolfe Cartier

Patsy A. Eddy Wolfe Cartier, 73, of Louisville, Kentucky., formerly of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010, in Louisville.

She was born in Parkersburg on April 6, 1937, a daughter of the late Willie H. and Elsie Anthony Eddy.

She was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, class of 1955. She formerly worked at the American Viscose Company, G.C. Murphy in the Grand Central Mall and the Bureau of Public Debt. She was a member of the Rosemar Road Church of Christ.

She is survived by one son, Joseph E. Wolfe of Louisville, Kentucky; one stepson, Charles Joseph Cartier of W.Va.; one sister, Carolyn Ashcraft of Louisville, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Joseph B. Wolfe; and her second husband, Albert Cartier.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Rosemar Church of Christ, Parkersburg, W.Va. with Evangelist Charles Aebi officiating. Interment will follow at the Kanawha Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike Street, Parkersburg, W.Va. and one hour prior to services at the church.

Vernon Wayne Bell

Vernon Wayne Bell, age 80, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Monday, April 12, 2010 at his residence.

He was born May 25, 1929, in Wirt County, W.Va., a son of the late Allen and Hazel Rose Bell.

Vernon retired as a Boiler Maker and was a member of Local #667, Winfield, W.Va. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the Camden Temple Church. He loved to play music and sing bluegrass, gospel and country music. He loved to fish and most of all spend time with his family.

He is survived by one daughter, Robin Bell of Parkersburg, W.Va.; four sons, Lewis Wayne Bell (Karri) of Cutler, Ohio, Larry Bell (Susan), Kenneth 'Zack' Bell (Tammy) and David Bell (Becky) all of Parkersburg, W.Va.; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Oma Loretta Duff Bell; one son, Ronald 'Bear' Bell; one brother, Allen Bell Jr.; and a sister, Wanda Toney.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Bill Eakle officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. Burial will follow at the Belt Cemetery near Munday, W.Va. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.

Michael Lewis Duncan

Michael Lewis Duncan, 56, of Fleming, Ohio passed away April 11, 2010 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

He was born November 22, 1953 in Parkersburg, W.Va. a son of the late James L. and Wanda Tucker Duncan. He was a 1972 graduate of Parkersburg South High School, a member of Torch Baptist Church, the Moose Lodge of Parkersburg and Borderline Hog Club. He was employed as a Loader Operator for DeBarrr Trucking. He was an avid lover of motorcycle riding and had ridden in over 15 states with his wife. He was a local fan of dirt car racing and Nascar.

Michael is survived by his wife of 34 years, Margaret Poske Duncan; his daughter, Michelle Carter (Joe) of Fleming, Ohio; grandson, Dakota Duncan of Fleming, Ohio; brother, James Gregory Duncan (Cheyenne) of Elizabeth City, NC; mother-in-law, Aleen Poske of Vienna, W.Va.; three brothers-in-law, David Poske (Charity) of Parkersburg, W.Va., Carl Poske (Vera) of Florida, and Bob Poske of Vienna, W.Va.; uncle, James Tucker of Belpre, Ohio; nephew, Josh Duncan (Jennifer) of Pittsburgh, PA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Joe Busch officiating.

Donations may be made in Mike's name to the charity of choice.

Margaret Cornelia Reed

Margaret Cornelia Hawkins Reed went home to join her loved ones waiting for her in heaven, Friday, April 9, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born Feb. 11, 1933, in Clarksburg, W.Va. a daughter of the late Camden Fred and Grace Kinceley Hawkins.

She is survived by two brothers, Robert Hawkins of Brunswick, Ohio, and Ashford Hawkins of Clarksburg, W.Va.; and one sister, Frances Hawkins Shaffer of Parkersburg, W.Va. She will forever be in the hearts of her remaining daughters, Jerry Reed Dean (Randy) of Elizabeth, W.Va., and Polly Reed Dennison (Chris Dumich) of Latrobe, Pa.; son-in-law, William Joseph Robinson; and five grandchildren who were her greatest joy, Robert Kiger of Clarksburg, W.Va., Tisha Farnsworth of Grafton, W.Va., William Joseph Robinson of Clarksburg, W.Va., Miranda Lewis of Murraysville, W.Va., and Charles B. Dean II of Elizabeth, W.Va. She was a proud great-grandmother of six beautiful children.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers. Margaret also has five infant babies and one daughter, Teresa Jane Reed Robinson, waiting for her at heavens gate.

Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 at Coplin ME Cemetery, Jarvisville Road, Wolf Summit, W.Va.

DeLeena "De" M. Swain

DeLeena 'De' M. Swain, 65, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away April 10, 2010, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

She was born February 6, 1945, in Akron, OH, the daughter of the late Charles W. 'Wilber' Schamp and the late Evelyn M. Henthorn Derenberger.

DeLeena retired from the West Virginia Division of Highways as a clerk and storekeeper. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed her collection of dolls and miniatures. She was an animal lover with two dogs, five cats, and a collection of goldfish of her own. She also enjoyed feeding the birds outside her home.

Surviving are two sons, Tyson S. Swain and wife Jolene of Boaz, W.Va. and Kevin H. Swain and fiancé April D. Pratt of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one brother, Terry L. Schamp of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one nephew, Nathan M. Schamp and wife Amber; three grandchildren, Ian Scott Swain, Grace Dominique Kent, and Sinopa Glenmathew Swain; step-nieces, Amanda Haynes and Zevvi Crites; step-nephew, Shawn Walcutt; step-great-nieces, Cassie and Alissa Walcutt and Isabella Haynes; step-great-nephew, Tyler Walcutt; former husbands, Ozzie Mann of Akron, OH, David Swain of Belleville, W.Va., and Ed Toothman of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and a host of friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Alicia Dawn Swain; her grandson Ian's mother, Monica Stockwell; and her first husband, Ronzal 'Tiny' E. Donahue.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11AM Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va., with Sterling Ball officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8PM on Monday, April 12, 2010, at the funeral home.

Faye E. Hoselton

Faye E. Hoselton, 94, of 420 Blennerhassett Avenue, Belpre, Ohio died Thursday, April 8, 2010, at The Arbors at Marietta after a long illness.

She was born September 27, 1915 in Jackson County, W.Va., the daughter of the late Albert E. and Anna Richards Griffith.

Mrs. Hoselton operated Hoselton Farms in Belpre from 1942 until 1998 and had a great love for gardening. She was a member of the St. Marks United Methodist Church of Belpre. She was a member of several Masonic orders for ladies including a member of the PWHP of the Bethany Shrine #4 of Parkersburg; a charter member of Royal Court #5 Order of the Amaranth, Inc. of Parkersburg; a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Inc. of Parkersburg; a member of the Belpre Chapter #541, Order of Eastern Star; past Nobel Grand Ben Fortney Rebekah Lodge #694; past president of Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant of Marietta; past councilor of Belle Prairie Council #269; a member of Daughters of America; and past state councilor of Daughters of America of Ohio.

She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Atkinson and husband, Dr. Bill Atkinson, of Little Hocking, Ohio; one son, James Hoselton of Belpre, Ohio; three granddaughters: Sheryl Carpenter of Mineral Wells, W.Va., Susan Abdella and Sandra Carpenter, both of Belpre, Ohio; one grandson, Jonathan Hoselton; three great-grandsons: Howard Lockhart, Tim Abdella and Michael Pingston; three great-granddaughters: Samye Pingston Lipscomb, Morgan Carpenter, and Jamie Abdella; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, James Griffith of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Hoselton in 1977; a son, Mack Hoselton, Jr. (Mickey) in 1982; four sisters; and two brothers.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Boulevard, Belpre, Ohio with Pastor David A. Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow in the Rockland Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where a White Shrine of Jerusalem Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m.

Matthew C. 'Matt' Cleavenger

Matthew Charles 'Matt' Cleavenger, of Charlotte, N.C., died March 16, 2010, at Carolina Medical Center-Mercy Hospital.

He was born January 13, 1970, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of Linda Carol Morris Thompson and the late Charles Leroy Cleavenger.

Matt graduated from Marietta High School in 1988. He trained for nursing at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga., and later received a degree in Respiratory Therapy in Phoenix, Ariz., where he worked for 10 years at St. Josephs Hospital-Pediatrics. Matt moved back east to be closer to his grandparents, Vada and Cecil Morris, which he helped take care of until their recent passing. Matt made an impression wherever he went. Neighbors, friends, co-workers, nurses, and family respected his loving personality and sense of humor.

Survivors include his partner of 17 years, Quentin Rinker; mother, Carol Morris Thompson; step-father, Gary Thompson; step-mother, Sharon Cleavenger; nephews and nieces, Colby L. Pratt, Hunter G. Thompson, Malia H. Faggart, Caleb R. Cleavenger, and Baylee M. Rinker; brother, Chad R. Cleavenger; and sister-in-law, Kristie Cleavenger.

Services will be held Saturday, April 10, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg, WV 26101, with Andy Robinson officiating. Cremated remains will stay with family.

Duane Grant Cross

A memorial service will be held April 17, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. for MSGT Duane Grant Cross, United State Air Force, Retired, at the Mineral Wells Baptist Church, Mineral Wells, WV. Duane, a member of the church, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus, after a very long illness. He departed this world December 17, 2009. Service will be in the church, with refreshments following in the Fellowship Hall. Duane was locally employed by Winan's Janitorial Service and WalMart, the Pettyville store, where he performed many duties at both locations. Special Speaker Matthew Patterson, nephew, from Ravenswood. Special music will be performed by Tara Hoselton, Mineral Wells, granddaughter of Duane's.

Donald D. "Red" Powell

Donald D. 'Red' Powell, age 89, of Parkersburg, W.Va. died March 27, 2010 at his residence with family by his side.

He was born Feb. 21, 1921 at Big Flint in Doddridge County, W.Va. He was the last surviving member of a family of ten children born to the late Ezra G. and Nora Davis Powell.

He attended Flint Run Elementary and Doddridge County High School. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the USS Travis during WWII. Donald was a charter member of the United Brethren Methodist Church in St. Albans, W.Va., a church that he helped to build. He sang in the choir while attending there before coming to Parkersburg in 1950. He was a charter member of the VFW and DAV and was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 15, and the Eagles 2307 in South Parkersburg. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood, W.Va. after 25 years of service and worked for seven years at Union Carbide. He worked at Powell's Honda in Parkersburg, W.Va. for ten years as a car salesman. He enjoyed drag racing.

Donald worked hard all of his life, loved people, and was a special father to all children. His family will miss him very much.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Rebecca Holden Powell who he married in 1941; three sons, Donald James Powell (Carol) of Wheelersburg, Ohio, Frederick Holden Powell (Barbara) of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Preston Gilbert Powell (Dianne) of Murphytown, W.Va.; ten grandchildren, Angela Oldaker (Steve), Donald S. Powell (Tammy), Julie Jennings (Bob), Marjean Ullman (Craig), Melissa Perry (Russ), Mary Bess Knotts (Perry), Edith Hart (William), Debra Powell, Katrina Sparks, and Jennifer Gwynn (Kevin); and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2010 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 400 Green St. Parkersburg, WV with Steve Higgins officiating. Full military rites by American Legion Post 15. Burial will follow at Archibold Cemetery in Smithburg, W.Va. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Bernice E. Hawthorne

Bernice E. Hawthorne, 91, of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away March 24, 2010, at the Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz.

She was born on July 16, 1918, in Spencer, W.Va., a daughter of Silas and Mary Hylbert (Marie) Walker.

She lived most of her life in West Virginia until moving to Phoenix for the winters and coming back to Vienna, W.Va. for the summers. She taught school in West Virginia and Ohio and retired from the Washington County School System with 25 years of employment. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star Chapter 14 and a member of the Wayside United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Roberta Leach (Michael) and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Hawthorne, both of Vienna, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a brother, William Walker of California.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Frederick Hawthorne; a son, Robert D. Hawthorne; and a sister, Faye McCarrel.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. with the Rev. Sandy Runnion officiating. Entombment will follow in Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation is from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Sarah Elizabeth Queen

Sarah Elizabeth 'Libby' Queen, 64, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away March 28, 2010 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 3, 1946 in Parkersburg, W.Va. a daughter of the late James Roger and Sarah Washington Queen.

Libby graduated from Parkersburg High School and retired from Corning Glass/Schott Scientific after 30 years of service. She was a very active member of the 14th St. Wesleyan Church in Parkersburg.

She is survived by one sister, Marjorie Booker (John) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one brother, Nathaniel Donaway (Regina) of Anchorage, Alaska; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Donaway of Vienna, W.Va.; and a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Thomas, and Eugene Donaway; and a sister, Patricia Davis.

Funeral services for Libby will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Rev. Robert Kennedy officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mary Scott Smith

Mary Scott Smith, 100, of Vienna, W.Va., passed away March 24, 2010, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 9, 1909 in Glendale, W.Va. in Ritchie County, W.Va., a daughter of the late John Elsworth and Elizabeth Lowther Scott. Mary was a 1927 graduate of Grant District High School which is now Cairo High School, attended Glenville State Teachers College and graduated from Salem College. She was a retired teacher having taught in Ritchie and Wood Counties. Mary was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Women's Teachers Society, W.Va. Retired Teachers Association, Wood County Retired School Employee Association. She was also a member of the Eastern Star of Cairo and Wesley Methodist Church of Vienna.

Mary is survived by seven children, Annagrace Cornell (Paul E.) of Vienna, W.Va., Pat Smith (Janet) of Deland, Fla., Kitty Cornell of Lenexa, Kan., Rose Nudd (Robert) of Grand Blanc, Mich., Elaine Strader (James) of Vienna, W.Va., Lynn Frazier (Lake) of Smith Mt. Lake, Va., Mike Smith (Becky) of Washington, W.Va.; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Smith of Ravenswood, W.Va.; 19 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Owen Eugene Smith; one son, John Earl Smith; one infant daughter, Mary Gene Smith; one grandson, Gregory John Smith; one great-grandson, John David Nesselrode; a son-in-law, William Cornell; three brothers, Hugh, Ira, Jess, and seven sisters, Blanche, Alma, Alice, Edna, Grace, Bess and Rose.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. with Pastor Mark Houser officiating. Interment will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cairo, W.Va. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Glena Elizabeth Uhl

Glena Elizabeth Uhl, 93, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away March 25, 2010, at the Willows Center.

She was born Oct. 26, 1916 in Jackson County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Wilber and Elizabeth Burdette Kieffer. She was a homemaker, enjoyed flowers, her grandchildren, and playing the guitar. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Glena is survived by son, Neil Uhl (Patty) of Williamstown, W.Va.; stepson, Jack W. Uhl (Ellen) of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; stepdaughter, Anna Montgomery of Grove City, Ohio; sisters, Dana Stalling (Rex) of Murrysville, W.Va., and Naomi Boyce of Rockport, W.Va.; sister-in-law, Sara Uhl of Vienna, W.Va.; brother-in-laws, Wayne Dowler (Thelma) of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Ben Daneman of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; grandchildren, Michael Uhl (Tana), Connie Watson (Dusty), Dennie Uhl, Judd (Rebecca), Jeff (Becky), Issac (Jenni), and Colby (Jenny) Uhl, Jackie Montgomery, Timmy Montgomery, Sondra Klieber, Wanda King and Gene Uhl; great-grandchildren, Kurgon Uhl, Dakota Watson, Skylar Watson, Janie Beth Uhl, Ann Marie Uhl and other step-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank William Uhl in 1985; one son, Von Uhl; four brothers, Neil, Buzz, Doyle, and Cecil Kieffer; one sister, Meta Pyles; and step-grandchildren, Bobby, Mike, and Jodi.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. with Pastor Jim Yoak officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Liberta "Lee" Teresa Mash

Liberta "Lee" Teresa Mash, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great- grandmother passed away March 21, 2010 while residing in Parkersburg, West Virginia with youngest daughter Marlee Lombard.

Lee lived in Jeannette, Pennsylvani ever since arriving from Boiano, Itlay where she was born on June 6, 1920. Lee was the daughter of the late Salvatore & Victoria Spina and her stepmother Maria Spina.

Siblngs are the late Michael Spina and her surviving sister, Carmella Manetti of McLean, Virginia. Her husband Louis C. Mash (deceased) was her loving husband of 50 wonderful years. She had four children, Rick Mash (deceased), Ron Mascio, LuAnn Mascio White and Marlee Mash Lombard. Her in-laws are Judi Mash Held, Lannie Taylor Mascio, and Gary Lombard. Lee had nine grandchildren, Elizabeth "Lisa Mash" Rogalski, David Mascio, Eric Mash, Vic Lombard, Lauren Lombard, Jill McCormack, Josh Graber, Justin White and T.J. White as well as ten great-grandchildren, Jacob, Nathan, Alexandra and Luke Rogolski, Devyn and Rachel Mascio; Jake, Mallory and Allysa McCormack, Tyler Graber and Haylie Marcum/White. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Lee had a special flair for life. She always had a dream of becoming a nurse one day, so after her children were grown, at 43 she went to nursing school, received her degree and worked as an LPN at Monsour Hospital for the next 20 years. Lee and Lou loved to travel, dance, entertain and play cards with their dear friends of 65 years or more. Please remember her as the beautiful woman that she was inside and out.

Rest in peace Lee Mash, the world is a sadder place without your beautiful smile. Friends will be received on Thursday March 25 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Mason-Gelder Funeral Home, Inc. 201 N. First Street Jeannette, PA 15644. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 26, 2010 at Ascension Church at 10:00 a.m. with Father John Foriska as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Jeannette following mass.
