Eli D. Blagg

Eli D. Blagg, 76, of French Creek, the Waterloo community, died Saturday, March 26, 2005 at his home.

He was born August 6, 1928, in Webster County, the son of the late Henry H. and Ollie Cowger Blagg.

He was united in marriage on Nov. 25, 1980, to Avis Hoover Blagg, who survives. Also surviving are two sons: Henry W. Blagg and Charles D. Blagg, and two brothers: Cardon Blagg of French Creek and George Blagg of Ohio.

In addition to his parents, one brother and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Mr. Blagg was the owner of a sawmill, a timber man, truck driver and worked the floor at auctions.

He had served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Friends were received Monday, March 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel.

The funeral service was held 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29 at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Conrad Tenney officiating. The burial followed at the Waterloo Cemetery.

Military services were conducted at the graveside by VFW Post No. 3663, American Legion Post No. 7 and DAV Chapters No. 5 and 36.

The Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel of Tennerton is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Edwards Connell

Robert Edwards Connell, 75, of Charleston died Saturday, March 26, 2005. He was born April 12, 1929 in Charleston, the son of the late Ellison and Nelle Connell. He attended Capital Grade School, Roosevelt Junior High and graduated from Charleston High School in 1946. Bob was a 1950 graduate of Washington and Lee University and a Life Loyal Sigma Chi.

Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He returned to the Kanawha Valley, where he has been a life-long resident. He worked for more than 40 years in the family business, The Kanawha Drug Company, which was founded by his grandfather, Waller Edwards Connell, in 1901. He subsequently worked for Miami Luken Drug Co., the Equitable Life Assurance Society, and CAMC General Division Pharmacy.

Bob was an active member of the Baptist Temple his entire life, where he was a member of the Board of Deacons and served in other church roles. He enjoyed running and finished the Chicago Marathon in 1986. He also ran in the Charleston Distance Run every year since 1974. He completed twenty-two 15-mile races through 1995, and ran in the 5K every year thereafter. He pursued and received an associate degree in computer science in 1979 from West Virginia State College.

Bob is survived by Joanne (Jody) Woodrum Connell, his wife of 52 years, and his sister Nancy Connell Blagg of South Charleston. He is also survived by three children and their spouses: Gary and Brenda Connell of Buckhannon, Dana and Laura Connell of Winnetka, Illinois, and Carrie and James Bullock of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Bob had seven grandchildren: Jessica Gross and Ben Connell, Sarah, Lindsay and Jane Connell, and Anna Blair and Thomas Bullock, as well as two great grandchildren.

Visitation was held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. His memorial service will be held today at 11 a.m., March 30, 2005 at the Baptist Temple in Charleston with the Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. The burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Charleston. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Baptist Temple of Charleston. The Wilson Funeral Home of Charleston is in charge of the arrangements.

James A. Detamore

James A. Detamore, 85, of West Milford, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg following an extended illness. He was born Nov. 3, 1919, in Flatwoods, a son of the late James M. and Dacie Berry Detamore.

Surviving are two sons and spouses: Ronald M. and Shirley Detamore of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Jerry Lynn and Kathleen Detamore of Montrose, Colorado; three daughters and spouses: Jamie Y. Detamore of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Debra J. and John Michael Kempf of Pataskala, Ohio and Angela J. and Aaron Karst of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; a companion Mary E. Todd of Buckhannon; two brothers: Lawrence L. Detamore of Alton and Richard C. Detamore of LaBell, Fla.; one sister Silvia Price of Nova, Ohio; his former wife Alys Ruth Horton Detamore Karst of Columbus, Ohio; 12 grandchildren: Ronda Watson and husband Mitch of Ft. Myers, Fla., Shari Detamore of Santa Fe, Shawn Detamore of Colorado Springs, Cynthia Triechel and husband Tim of Colorado Springs, Greg Silverman and wife Krissy of Reynoldsburg, Andrew Christopher Hennick of Columbus, Erin Rebecca Hennick of New Albany, Jeremy Detamore and wife Kelli of Hebron, Ohio, Jonathan and Joshua Kempf of Pataskala, Sarah Kempf of Canal Winschester, and Michael Karst of Reynoldsburg; 12 great-grandchildren: Tyler Watson of Ft. Myers, Cullen and Patrick Detamore, Jarin, Caitlyn, Nolan and Madison Triechel all of Colorado Springs, Ryan and Skyler Silverman of Reynoldsburg, Lindsey, Brenden and Alyssia Detamore all of Hebron, Ohio.

Mr. Detamore was also preceded in death by three brothers: John, George, and Harley Detamore and by six sisters: Helen I. Davis, Frankie Lucille White, Virginia Hosey, Ruth Wightman, Juanita Carpenter, and Carol Ann Huffman.

Mr. Detamore was a Protestant by faith. He had a military career in the U.S. Army serving in WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army May 23, 1939. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, his Co. ?F? 13th Infantry, 8th Division was placed on guard duty for the bridges crossing the Keys to Key West, Fla.

In July of 1942, he was transferred for reactivation of the 80th (Blue Ridge) Division. After training, the division sailed out of New York aboard the Queen Mary, July 1, 1944.

After arriving in France, the 80th Division was assigned to General Patton?s Third Army. The division moved to Luxembourg in Dec. 1944 when the Germans jumped off in the Battle of the Bulge.

When the German offensive ended, the division moved on through Germany until the war ended. At the end of World War II, he was discharged Aug. 9, 1945. He returned to active duty through the Army Reserve in July 1948 and was assigned to the U.S. Army Hospitals, Camp Pickett and Fort Lee, Virginia. In July 1951, he was levied for overseas assignment to the Far East Command.

He arrived at headquarters, Korean Military Advisory Group in Taegu, Korea in September of 1951 and remained to the completion of that tour of duty. He rotated back to the U.S. in May 1953 and was reassigned to the U.S. Army Hospital at Camp Pickett, Va. In January 1956, he was reassigned to overseas duty with the 67th Medical Depot at Einsiedlerhof, Germany.

After completion of this tour, he rotated back to the U.S. to the Army Dispensary, Fort Hayes, Columbus, Ohio in May 1959. He retired from the Army at Fort Hayes, Ohio on August 1, 1962.

He had been awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge, Oak Leaf Cluster to the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal, along with eight other medals.

After his Army retirement, he worked for the Federal Civil Service Department until Dec. 31, 1975. At the completion of this service, he was awarded the Distinguished Career Award by the Defense Supply Agency.

Friends were received Thursday, March 24, 2005 at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home in Clarksburg from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service was held Friday, March 25 at the funeral home with Chaplain Ryan E. Wagers presiding.

The burial followed in the W.Va. National Cemetery in Pruntytown. Full military graveside rites were given by VFW Post No. 3081 of Grafton, American Legion Post No. 12, Taylor County and DAV No. 24. The Davis-Weaver Funeral Home of Clarksburg is in charge of the arrangements.

George C. ?Dick? Cutright

George C. ?Dick? Cutright, 77, of Tennerton, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at his home.

He was born August 12, 1927 in Buckhannon, a son of the late Wesley A. and Burla Pritt Cutright. He was united in marriage on February 11, 1956 to Mary Maxine McLaughlin Cutright who preceded him in death on March 26, 2003.

He is survived by one daughter, Tammy Cutright Miller and husband Steve of Morgantown, one son, John C. Cutright and wife Robyn of Dallas, Texas and two grandchildren, Kyle Steven Miller and Ryan Michael Allen Miller both of Morgantown.

Two brothers, Marden E. Cutright and Gary L. Cutright both of Buckhannon also survive, as do three sisters, Marie Smith of Walled Lake, Michigan, Thelma Moreland, and Oma June Holden both of Buckhannon. He was preceded in death by one brother, Herman W. Cutright and one sister, Mildred Werner.

Friends will be received at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 31 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park. The Buckhannon VFW Post No. 3663, the American Legion Frank B. Bartlett Post No. 7, and the DAV Chapters No. 5 and No. 36 will conduct military honors at the graveside.

The Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth Fay (Reeder) Curry

Elizabeth Fay (Reeder) Curry, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away at her home in Monrovia, Calif. on March 18, 2005, following a brief illness.

She was born January 8, 1914, near Jane Lew. Raised on a farm, she rode a pony two miles each day to school with her sister, Olive.

She graduated from Fairmont State College and was a high school English and Latin teacher in West Virginia for 35 years. She taught at Buckhannon-Upshur High School.

Since retirement, she has lived in Monrovia for 27 years with Paul, her husband of 67 years, where she cultivated roses and African violets, and encouraged her grandsons? love of writing and literature.

She entertained family and friends, cooking from old farm recipes, which she passed on to her son and grandsons.

She is survived by her husband J. Paul Curry, her son John Reeder Curry (Kristine), grandsons Christopher R. Curry and Patrick D. Curry and her sister, Olive I. Reeder, as well as nephews and a niece.

Friends were invited to join the family members at services held Saturday

Cora Ellen Harvey

Cora Ellen Harvey, 77, of Buckhannon died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at St. Joseph?s Hospital.

She was born June 18, 1927, in Barberton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Kelsel V. Davis and Hattie Wilson Davis. She was united in marriage on July 20, 1946 to the late John Keith Harvey, who preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1967. Her granddaughter Melissa (Crites) Butler also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons: William D. Harvey and wife Kathy of Hildebran, N.C. and Robert K. Harvey and wife Sally of Winfield, W.Va.; daughter E. Rebecca Crites of Buckhannon; granddaughter Emily Chapman of Winfield; grandson Scott Crites of Buckhannon; sister Wanda Mouser of Philippi; and three great-grandchildren.

She worked in the order department of Moore Business Forms. She was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, member of the UM Women?s Club, Fred Brooks Garden Club and the Christmas Store.

Friends were received Saturday, April 2, 2005 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Poling St. Clair Funeral Home. The funeral service was held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 3 at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Stackpole officiating. The burial followed at the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery in Philippi.

Lowell F. McGee

Lowell F. McGee, 70, of Plum Boro, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at his home. He was born June 26, 1934, in Hall, W.Va., the son of the late Leslie F. and Eunice Hall McGee. Prior to retirement, he was a civil engineer with Fahringer, McCarty, Grey Inc. and also spent ten years as the Municipality of Murrysville Director of Engineering. He was a member of the Beulah Presbyterian Church, Churchill and was very active in the church for 46 years and he was a graduate of West Virginia University.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Kort McGee; four children: Dr. Douglas L. and wife Patti McGee of Birchrunville, Pa., Amy M. and husband Ed Gratton Jr. of Monroeville, Aaron D. and wife Rebecca McGee of Arnold, Md., and Dr. Lee F. McGee of Plum; nine grandchildren: Tyler, Megan, Caitlin, Marisa, Jillian, Tara, Aaron, Hannah and Ryan; brother Hugh P. and wife Ruthie McGee of Buckhannon and sister Mildred L. and husband Allen Beer of Buckhannon.

Visitation was held Monday, April 4 at the Hart Funeral Home Inc. in Murrysville. The funeral service was held Tuesday, April 5 in the Beulah Presbyterian Church in Churchill.

The burial followed in the Beulah Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to the Beulah Preschool.

Nergie May Cowger Hissam

Nergie May Cowger Hissam, 92, of Hayesville, N.C., passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at the Clay County Care Center in Hayesville.

She was the daughter of the late Joe and Viola Gregory Cowger.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Delmer Hissam.

A son, Max Hissam, of Wickliffe, Ohio, a daughter, Nola English, of Carthage, N.C., 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren also survive her.

A son, Delbert Hissam, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hissam was a native of Wheeler in Webster County. She was a faithful member of the Bible Missionary Baptist Church in Hayesville, N.C. She had worked at the Rayon factory in Painsville, Ohio for a few years.

The funeral service was held Saturday, March 2, 2005, at the Bible Missionary Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery in Murphy, N.C.

Charleen Haymond

Charleen Haymond, 74, of Baden, Pa., died Friday, April 1, 2005, at the Allegheny General Hospital. She was born July 11, 1930, in Eden, W.Va., a daughter of the late Charles P. and Inzie Rice Morris.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Conley Haymond, who died July 15, 1994. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law Leslie P. and Barbara K. Haymond of Conway, Pa., one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Rick Oliver of Youngwood, Pa.; three grandchildren: Tyler Conley Haymond, Sarah Catherine Haymond, and Paul Dean Oliver; two sisters: Kathleen ?Kate? McKisic of Crawford and Zela Haymond of Arlington; sister-in-law Myrtle May Morris, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers: Charles and Eugene Morris and one sister Zeta Williams.

Mrs. Haymond was a registered nurse and had retired as the director of nursing for the former D.T. Watson Home and was a member of the Baden United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren.

Friends were received on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. today, April 6 at the funeral chapel.

The burial will follow in the Rice Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rice Cemetery Fund, in care of Mary Fidler at 3 Third Avenue, Buckhannon, WV 26201.

The Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Silbert H. Workman

Silbert H. Workman, 89, of Weston died at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2005, in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston following an extended illness. He was born Feb. 23, 1916, in Gilmer County, a son of the late George and Bertha Hewing Workman. On April 4, 1940, he married the former Dorothy Dell Peterson, who preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 1990.

Surviving are five daughters: Sylvia H. and husband Roger Straley and Sherry H. Phillips both of Virginia Beach, Va., Shirley H. Harris of Waco, Texas, Sandra H. Wohlever of Miland, Ohio and Shelia H. and husband George Hallock of Weston; three sons: Silbert H. ?Bud? and wife Darlene Workman of Rock Cave, Sebert H. ?Little Bud? and wife Gail Workman of Weston and Steven H. and wife Debbie Workman of Chesapeake, Va.; one brother Junior Workman of Michigan; one sister Geneva and husband Henry Ford of Weston; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Five brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Workman was retired from the City of Weston and was a member of the Victory Assembly of God.

Friends may call at the Victory Assembly of God on Saturday, from the Victory Assembly of God with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. The burial will follow in the Machpelah Cemetery. The Floyd Funeral Home of Weston is in charge of the arrangements.

Donald Glenn Cunningham

Donald Glenn Cunningham, also known as John Tilghman Cunningham, 66, of Laguna Woods, Calif., and formerly of Upshur County, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2005.

He was born May 24, 1939, in Montana, the son of the late Forest Glenn and Mabel Loudin Cunningham.

His wife, Valerie Hack Cunningham, of Laguna Woods, Calif., survives him.

A son, Daniel Cunningham, of Rock Hill, S.C., and a daughter, Margaret Cunningham Fleet, also of Rock Hill, S.C. survive him.

A brother, Ronald Cunningham and wife Becky, of Baltimore, Md., survive him as well.

Three nieces: Candace, Celeste and Sonya also survive him.

Mr. Cunningham was a member of the Rotary Club, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, as well as being a diplomat in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.

He was a minister in the American Baptist Church and the United Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was posted in Morocco as a cryptographer.

He had been Chaplin and mental health counselor in the VA hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

A memorial service was held Saturday, August 20, 2005, at the Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sue Lowther officiating.

Mr. Cunningham?s cremains will be interned in the Upshur County Memorial Park in Tennerton.

Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
