Erma Griffin

Erma Griffin passed away at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, after a long illness. Arrangements were made for a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at the Greene-Robertson Funeral Home at 600 Riverview Drive, Sutton, W.Va.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Erma Griffin Bluegrass Music Scholarship Fund at Glenville State College.

There will be no public funeral, however, the family will hold a graveside service at the Groves Cemetery in Summersville, today, Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, at 2 p.m.

A memorial celebration is being planned and will be held during the Stonewall Jackson Jubilee at Jackson?s Mill on Saturday morning, Sept. 3.

The exact time has not been set.

Jo Ann Conrad Smith

Jo Ann Conrad Smith, 63, of Buckhannon died Sunday, August 21, 2005, at St. Joseph?s Hospital. She was born Feb. 11, 1942, in Buckhannon, the daughter of the late Richard Lorentz Conrad and Otsie Aegan Conrad. She was united in marriage on June 7, 1980 to Loyle T. Smith, who survives.

Surviving are three sons: Donald Miller of Buckhannon, William James Miller of Buckhannon, and Scott Alan Smith of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two daughters: Donna Demastes of French Creek and Rebecca Ann Tenney of Buckhannon; sister Sandra Smith of Buckhannon; half-brother Bobby Goodwin of Amhurst, Ohio; half sisters: Ruthie McNair of Lochbuie, Colo., and Kathy Yellow Eagle of Grantspass, Ore.; five grandsons: Donald Earl Miller III of Akron, Ohio, Thomas James Miller of Buckhannon, Jacob Scott Hunt of French Creek, Joshua Ward of Buckhannon, and Shane Alan Workman of Buckhannon; four granddaughters: Rebecca Dawn Miller of Akron, Ohio, Joanna Jean Hunt of Keyser, Amanda Joada Ward of Buckhannon and Gabrielle Miller of Buckhannon; great-granddaughter Alexxis Harris of Keyser and special niece Natasha Smith of Buckhannon.

Preceded in death by two sons: John Michael Miller and Paul Miller; daughter Cathy Miller; half-sister Geraldine Hollingsworth; half-brother Junior Goodwin; step-father William ?Bill? Post; and granddaughter Christine Lynn White.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.

Friends will be received Thursday, August 25, 2005, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Poling St. Clair Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2005, at the funeral home with the Rev. Junior Harris officiating.

The burial will follow at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tallmansville.

Onal Dewey Morrison

Onal Dewey Morrison, 78, of Lakeland, Fla., passed away Sunday, August 21, 2005.

He was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Kanawha Head, the son of the late Willis Wade Morrison and Martha Alice Taylor.

He was united in marriage to Edna Mae Hill Morrison, of Lakeland, Fla.; who survives.

Four sons: Dennis, Chris, Oliver and Shawn and wife Anne, all of Lakeland, Fla., also survive him.

Three daughters: Kathy and husband Manuel Gagianas, of Pennsylvania; Shari and husband Dave Marinkovic, also of Pennsylvania; and Eleanor Hostetler and husband Jim, of Pennsylvania survive him as well.

Two sisters: Genevieve Gregory, of Pennsylvania, and Iva Waugh, of Buckhannon, also survive him.

Eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren survive him as well.

Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, from 4 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Patrick Weber officiating.

Burial will take place at the Heavner Cemetery.

Belinda D?Anne Morlock

Belinda D?Anne Morlock, 47, of French Creek, passed away Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at her home.

She was born Aug. 26, 1957, in Philippi, a daughter of James Edward and Dorothy Ellen Walls Gaston, of Morgantown.

She was united in marriage to Bryan Morlock, who survives.

In addition to her mother, father and husband, three brothers: William H. Gaston, of Morgantown; Raymond Parrish Gaston, of Morgantown and Paul Rollins Gaston, also of Morgantown, survive her.

A son, Paul Crumrine, of Morgantown, and a daughter, Bridgette Crumrine, of New Martinsville, W.Va., also survive her.

A granddaughter, Molly Crumrine, of Buckhannon, survives her as well.

A sister, Lou Ellen Goodwin, of Morgantown, survives her, as does a paternal grandmother, Wilma Frances ?Billie? Gaston, of Bridgeport.

Mrs. Morlock was a cashier for Wal-Mart.

Friends will be received Sunday, August 28, 2005, from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Buckhannon Memorial Park.

Gary Lee Wamsley

Gary Lee Wamsley, 59, of Seville, Ohio, died Thursday, August 18, 2005, at Medina General Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

He was born Feb. 26, 1946, at his home in Sand Run, W.Va., a son of Lloyd and Edna (Clark) Wamsley Hefner.

Gary was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Westinghouse for many years until it closed and then he went to Volvo in Orrville up until his illness.

Gary is survived by his wife, Annie Wamsley, of Seville; sons Willie and Gary Lee Wamsley, of Mansfield, Ohio; and daughters Patricia Wamsley, of Shenandoah, Ohio; and Lisa Leguillon, of Seville, Ohio.

Grandchildren Myranda and Mason, of Shenandoah, brothers Mike Hefner, of Marlinton, W.Va.; and Stephen Hefner, of Arlington, Va.; also survive him.

Sisters: Helen Layman and Freda Jackson, of Marlinton, W.Va. and many nieces and nephews survive him as well.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather Fred Hefner, brother Freddie Hefner, sister Patricia Hefner, and cousin Mark Pifer.

Cremation has taken place with no service, per his wishes.

Mabelle Grace Cokeley Sharp

Mabelle Grace Cokeley Sharp, 83, of Buckhannon died peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 25, 2005. She was born May 10, 1922, in Harrisville (Ritchie Co.) the daughter of the late Lon L. Cokeley and Blanche Watkins Cokeley.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert L. Sharp of Buckhannon; two daughters: Norrine Kay Scherler of Somerset, N.J. and her husband William and Cathy J. Sharp of Woodside, N.Y.; three sons: Steven L. Sharp and wife Kathy of Poolesville, Md., Gary D. Sharp and wife Jamie of Charles Town, W.Va., and Kevin R. Sharp and wife Vicki of Buckhannon. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Laura Scherler of Arlington, Va., Kate Scherler of Brooklyn, N.Y., David Scherler of Somerset, N.J., Allison and Alicia Sharp both of Buckhannon and twin grandsons: Adam and Austin Sharp both of Charles Town, plus numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two brothers: William L. Cokeley and wife Madeline of Issaquah, Wash. and George Cokeley of St. Mary?s, W.Va. and a sister Ruth Cokeley Carlson of Frederick, Md. She was preceded in death by a sister Marie Cokeley and brother Robert Cokeley, plus a sister-in-law Edna Cokeley and brother-in-law Dale Carlson. Helen Summers Cokeley, of Harrisville, W.Va., widow of her brother Robert, has been like a sister to Mrs Sharp.

Better known as ?Mabe, ? she attended the public schools of Ritchie Co., and graduated from Harrisville High School in 1940. She earned a Smith/Hughes B.S. degree in home economics from WVU in 1944 and taught home economics in schools in Sandyville and Cairo, W.Va., Lansing, Mich., and Buckhannon before retiring in 1986.

She was a master seamstress and loved to make her own clothes as well as for her daughters and others. She was a active member of the First United Methodist Church, where she served on several committees, was a Lois Circle Leader for 10 years and a member of the Wesley Sunday school class. She was also a member of the Fred Brooks Garden Club; Buckhannon Women?s Club, W.Va. Professional Educators Association, Kappa Phi Educational Honorary, Upshur Co. Retired Teachers Association, and associate member of the Emeritus Club of W.Va. Wesleyan College, as well as two bridge clubs. She was also an honorary lifetime member of the St. Joseph?s Hospital Auxiliary and a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

She loved to work with flowers around the home, and reading and needlecraft were her hobbies. Her special loves were her five children and seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the scholarship fund at the First United Methodist Church, 52 S. Florida St., Buckhannon WV 26201, or to a charity of your choice in her memory.

Visitation was held Saturday, August 27 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home.

The funeral service was held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billie Scott Mick officiating.

The Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Michael Joe Starkey

Michael Joe Starkey, 30, of West Salem, Ohio, died Friday, September 16, 2005, at his home. He was born December 4, 1974, in Buckhannon, the son of Clifton Carroll Starkey Jr. of Buckhannon and Glenna Roby Starkey of West Salem, Ohio. Also surviving are stepmother Bonnie Starkey of Buckhannon; son Travis Michael Starkey of Medina, Ohio; two daughters: Jennifer Marie Starkey and Sheyanne Mia Starkey, both of Medina, Ohio; step son Caleb Micha Beckner of Medina, Ohio; sister Lori L. (Starkey) Rowan and husband John of West Salem, Ohio; brother Brian W. Starkey Sr. and wife Florence of Buckhannon; step grandmother Mamie Starkey of Buckhannon; three nieces and three nephews; several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Glendle and Nellie Roby and paternal grandparents Clifton and Josephine Starkey Sr. and one nephew.

Mr. Starkey was a supervisor at J&O; Plastics.

Friends were received Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. The funeral will be held 2 p.m. today, Sept. 21, 2005 at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. The burial will follow at the Waterloo Church Cemetery in French Creek.

The Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Shirley Ann Seasley Oldaker

Shirley Ann Seasley Oldaker, 68, of Rock Cave died Thursday, October 6, 2005, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She was born Aug. 24, 1937, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Oscar and Bertha Seasley. She was united in marriage on Aug. 26, 1955, to Robert ?Bob? Oldaker, who survives. She is also survived by two daughters: Rebecca ?Becky? Starkey and husband Rockie of Buckhannon and Cynthia ?Cindi? Riggs and husband Steven of Rock Cave; three grandchildren: Tara Starkey Bennett of Bruceton Mills, Todd Starkey of Buckhannon, and Casen Riggs of Rock Cave; one sister Barbara S. Montgomery and husband Brad of French Creek; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Oldaker enjoyed playing the auto harp in different churches throughout the county. She was a member of the Rock Cave Baptist Church.

Friends were received Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral service was held 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at the Rock Cave Baptist Church with Pastor David Jessie and Pastor Shane Montgomery officiating. The burial followed at the Buckhannon Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Family Life Center at the Rock Cave Baptist Church, PO Box 21, Rock Cave, WV 26234.

Russell E. Phillips

Russell E. Phillips, 68, of Buckhannon, formerly of Clendenin, W.Va., died Friday, October 7, 2005, at St. Joseph?s Hospital. He was born January 11, 1937, in Kanawha County, W.Va., a son of the late Charlie E. and Lessie Dye Phillips. He was united in marriage on January 14, 1956, to Betty Jones Phillips, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by one daughter Brenda S. and husband Mark A. Shine of Greenville, Pa.; three sons: Russell E. Phillips Jr. and wife Jill K. Phillips of Kanawha Head, Delbert D. and wife Penny Phillips of Carter, and Bernard E. and wife Jeanne Phillips of Gaines; twelve grandchildren; two sisters: Christine Huston of Lakeland, Fla. and Linda Jane White of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Phillips was retired from Columbia Gas. Russell enjoyed family and friends and hunting and fishing. He was owner and operator of B&R; Produce.

Friends were received Sunday, Oct. 11, 2005 at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. today, Oct. 5, 2005 at the funeral chapel with Pastor David Jessie officiating. The burial will follow at the Rock Cave Cemetery.

The Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Obid Warren Hinkle

Obid Warren Hinkle, 86, of Buckhannon died Sunday, October 9, 2005, at his home, under the care of St. Joseph?s Hospice. He was born May 19, 1919, in Vegan, W.Va., a son of the late Waitman T. Hinkle and Anna Trussler Kinkle. On June 24, 1948, he married Delora Frances ?Pet? Fox Hinkle, who preceded him in death on April 8, 2001.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Lou (Hinkle) Thompson and husband Tommy, of Buckhannon, and Lea Ann Groah and husband Mike, also of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Brenda Thompson of Mount Laurel, N.J., and Angie Queen of Buckhannon; a grandson, Rodney Thompson of Elkins; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Queen of Buckhannon; three great-grandsons, Dalton Queen of Buckhannon, Hunter Thompson of Elkins, and Brandon Mundine of Mount Laurel, N.J.; a sister, Geneva Grubb of Ellamore; several nieces and nephews; and a close friend and companion, Mary Tenney of Buckhannon.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Shasta Dean.

Mr. Hinkle was a school bus operator for the Upshur County Board of Education and the owner and operator of Hinkle?s Cash and Carry. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the W.Va. Association of Retired School Employees.

Friends will be received today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Butcher presiding. Burial will follow in Heavner Cemetery.

Hartsel Kermit Aylestock

Hartsel Kermit Aylestock, 90, of Norma Avenue, Nutter Fork, died at 3:41 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2005 at his residence following an extended illness. Born on October 7, 1915 in Sago, Upshur County, he was a son of the late Parley Samuel Aylestock and Nola Avis (Gould) Aylestock. On November 10, 1939, he married Ruby G. (Linger) Aylestock, who preceded him in death on November 27, 1993.

Survivors include five brothers, Carl F. Aylestock and wife Dorothy of Clarksburg, James Edwin Aylestock and wife Tyde of Clarksburg, Woody Aylestock and wife Nina of Buckhannon, Harold J. Aylestock and wife Clara of Sterling, Va., and John Thomas Aylestock and wife Judy of Sterling, Va.; three sisters, Alma Lavaund Bourne of Ashburn, Va., Natalie Jewel Lawson of Sterling, Va., and Anna Mae Young and husband David Sr. of Winchester, Va.; several nieces and nephews; several great- nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd George Aylestock, Russell Warren Aylestock and Glenn Oran Aylestock; and three sisters, Mabel Blanche Newcome, Willard Lorene Tomblyn and Phyllis Irene Ervin.

Mr. Aylestock was employed as a lineman with Monongahela Power Company in Clarksburg with 37 years of service, from 1940 until his retirement on November 1, 1977. He was very gifted with handmade stained glass and created and designed stained glass windows for churches in Florida. He was a member of the United Methodist Temple on Locust Street in Clarksburg.

Family and friends will be received at the Davis Funeral Home, 1 Olen Thomas Drive, Rt. 98, Clarksburg, from 4 to 8 p.m. today and on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time funeral services will be held. Pastor Mike Aylestock and Pastor Mike Tallman will be officiating. Entombment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
