Elsworth J. Nuzum

Elsworth J. Nuzum, 70, of Adrian, died Saturday, October 8, 2005, at St. Joseph?s Hospital in Buckhannon. He was born October 4, 1935, in Harrison County, a son of the late Palmer Francis and Alma May Lucus Nuzum. He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Flowers Nuzum, whom he married on July 15, 1954.

Also surviving are eight sons, Buck and wife Deborah Nuzum of Buckhannon, Richard and wife Victoria Nuzum of Beckley, Allen and wife Teresa Nuzum of Minnesota, Michael Nuzum and companion Betty Sipe of Buckhannon, Thomas and wife Beth Nuzum of Elkins, James Nuzum and companion Cheryl of Moorefield, Tim and wife Heather Nuzum of Ireland, W.Va., and John Nuzum of Maryland; six daughters, Joyce Nuzum and companion William Kidd of Clarksburg, Marlene Jeffries and companion Bill Green of Buckhannon, Leah Nuzum, Sherry Friend and companion Allen Hamner of Rock Cave, Mary Nuzum and companion Robert DeMastes of Rock Cave and Carolyn and husband Terry Sipe of Buckhannon; two brothers, Harold and Herman Nuzum; five sisters, Betty, Ellen, Minerva, Gladys and Goldie; 28 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Howard and Eugene Nuzum; a sister, Thelma Shaw; and a granddaughter, Elacia Bowman.

Mr. Nuzum was a coal miner and a Christian by faith.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Liberty in Christ Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Liberty in Christ Church with Pastor Mike Westfall and Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow in Laurel Fork Church Cemetery, French Creek.

Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Linda S. Canfield

Linda S. Canfield, age 61 of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, December 18, 2008 at her home. She was born February 12, 1947 in Buckhannon the daughter of the late Howard and Tina Smith Teter. On August 28, 1965 she married Roy Ed Canfield who survives. Also surviving are two sons David Canfield and wife Sue Ann of Levittown, PA and Allen Canfield and wife Holly of Buckhannon; two grandchildren; three brothers, Bill Teter and wife Lou, Tom Teter and wife Judy and Jerry Teter and wife Teresa all of Buckhannon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother Bob Teter. After living 11 years in Northern Virginia Linda returned to Upshur County and purchased another horse which she road on many trail rides with the Upshur Trail Riders as well as riding in the Strawberry Festival Parade. She worked in the oil and gas industry having worked for Petro Lewis, SW Jack, J & J Industries, Equitable Resources and Intervest. She held several positions from production clerk to office manager. A Memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Reger Chapel United Methodist Church on the Brushy Fork Road with Dr. Arthur Holmes and the Rev. Richard Ogden officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Camp Mahonegon: c/o Dwight Jenkins PO Box 1249 Clarksburg, WV 26302. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Vivian Harvey

Vivian Harvey, 57, of Buckhannon, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, at her home under the care of People?s Hospice of Clarksburg.

She was born March 11, 1948, in Buckhannon, a daughter of James and Ruth Moran True, both who survive and reside in Buckhannon.

She was united in marriage Dec. 31, 1976, to Robert L. Harvey, who survives.

In addition to her mother, father and husband, a daughter, Alicia and husband Lyndon Auvil, of Buckhannon, survive her.

Two sons: William A. Evans, of Concord, N.C.; Robert and wife Melissa Ward, whom she raised and reside in Buckhannon, also survive her.

A grandson, Aydan Auvil, of Buckhannon, also survives her. Four granddaughters: Faith Auvil; Chantal Ward; Hanna Ward and Sarah Ward, all of Buckhannon survive her as well.

A sister, Jeani and husband Kevin Hawkins, of Tallmansville, survive her, as do three nieces: Rebecca Capicola, of Reno, Nev.; Alison Daugherty, of Tallmansville; and Amanda Nesbitt, of Buckhannon survive her.

A nephew, James Michael True, of Siera Vista, Ariz.; survives her as well.

Mrs. Harvey was a beautician and a member of the Way of Holiness Church in Buckhannon.

Friends will be received Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Way of Holiness Church.

The funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Way of Holiness Church with Pastor Jerry Murrell officiating.

Burial will take place at Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery in Philippi.

Roy D. Randolph

Roy D. Randolph, 76, of the Glady Fork Community in Buckhannon died Sunday, October 9, 2005, at his home. He was born Feb. 22, 1929, in Ashtabula, Ohio, a son of the late A.L. Randolph and Thelma Bartlett Randolph. He was united in marriage on Sept. 15, 1977, to Valeri Burroughs Randolph, who survives.

Also surviving are four sons: Michael Randolph of Fairmont, Donnie Randolph and wife Patty of Clarksburg, Ronnie Randolph and wife Roben of Bridgeport, and Tommy Randolph of Clarksburg; four daughters: Donna Yochym and husband Greg of Weston, Gloria Dennison and husband Brian of Wolf Summit, Diana Marsh and husband Robert of Goodhope, and Gracie Martini of Clarksburg; three sisters: Wanda Brady of Stonewood, Lois LaRosa of Nutterfort and Charlene Stevens of Nutterfort; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brother Raymond Randolph and grandson William Andrew Randolph.

Mr. Randolph was a business owner ? R&N; Core Drilling, Global Auto & Truck Repair, and Buccaneer Sports Shop & Tri County Sports Shop. He served with the Special Forces during the Korean Conflict.

Friends will be received today, Oct. 12, 2005 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005 at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Stackpole. The burial will follow at the Reger Chapel Church Cemetery. The VFW Post No. 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post No. 7 and DAV 5 and 36 will conduct graveside rites. The Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Carl Edward Murdock

Carl Edward Murdock, 66, of Weston died Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg following a brief illness. He was born Nov. 17, 1938, in Marion County, a son of the late Edward Charles and Emma Lee Martin Murdock. On July 16, 1960, he married the former Sharon Marley, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter Kimberly Jo Murdock of Weston; one sister Alberta Schroeder and husband Larry of Paxton, Ill.; one brother John and wife Claudia Murdock of Fairmont; three sisters-in-law Barbara Skidmore of Weston; Connie Bariteau of Gainsville, Va. and Mrs. Nick (Linda) Nicholson of Rio Vende, Ariz.; one aunt and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Murdock was retired from the Shell Oil Co. with several years of service.

He had previously worked at Lockheed-Martin Aircraft and Ingersol Rand. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He enjoyed working outside and raising tomatoes, he loved to hunt, fish, take long walks and camping. He was an outgoing man and enjoyed his friends and family.

He was a member of the Weston Masonic Lodge #10 AF & AM, and the First Baptist Church of Weston.

Friends were received at the Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Avenue, in Weston on Sept. 23, 2005, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral service was held 10 a.m. Sept. 24, 2005 from Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Miller officiating.

The burial followed in the Weston Masonic cemetery with Weston Lodge #10 AF and AM in charge of graveside rites. The Boyle Funeral Home of Weston was in charge of the arrangements.

Edna G. Hicks

Edna G. Hicks, 93, of the Sand Run community in Buckhannon, passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at Talbott?s Personal Care Home in Belington.

She was born Oct. 8, 1912, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Homer O. and Grace Mayo Slaughter.

She was united in marriage on April 11, 1931, to the late Herschel Hicks, who preceded her in death May 27, 1994.

Two sons: Mike Hicks, of Buckhannon; and Tim Hicks, of McKeesport, Pa. survive her.

Two daughters: Mrs. Shirley Feaganes, of Buckhannon and Mrs. Sharon Long, of Carmel, Calif. also survive her.

Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive her as well.

Two sisters: Iris Seachman, of Spring Hill Fla. and Helen Cantarelli, of Bridgeport, also survive her.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Hicks, three sisters: Cindy Hasslebacher, Virginia Wratchford, and Margaret Osburn, a granddaughter and a grandson.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Buckhannon.

She was a homemaker and a farmer.

She was also a member of the W.Va. Farm Bureau.

Friends will be received today, Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at the Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Brown officiating.

Interment will take place at the Mt. Union Cemetery.

Randall Scott Heater

Randall Scott Heater, 44, died Wednesday, October 12, 2005, at his home in Rock Cave. He was born May 24, 1961 in Buckhannon, the son of Billy Joe Heater of Rock Cave and the late Glenna Jean Compton Heater.

Surviving in addition to his father are three children, Billy Scott Heater, Betty Jo Heater, and Bobby Jo Heater of Buckhannon; two brothers, Michael Joe Heater of Frenchton and Robert Weese Heater of Tennerton; two sisters Marcia Ann Cutright and Karen Jean Hull and husband Steve, all of Rock Cave.

He was a Christian by faith and employed as a rig driller.

The viewing will be held Friday, October 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15 at the funeral chapel with the Rev. William C. Eskew, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Rock Cave Cemetery.

Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements for Randall Scott Heater.

Richard Harold Norvell

Richard Harold Norvell, 84, of Buckhannon, passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at St. Joseph?s Hospital.

He was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Earnest Bernard and Addie Hinkle Norvell.

His wife, Betty Jeannine Groah Norvell, whom he married in 1959, survives him.

After finishing high school in Upshur County, Mr. Norvell was employed by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad at the Baltimore office for three years.

During World War II, he was stationed in Fort Blanding, Fla., serving with the Army in personnel placement.

After the war, he returned to Upshur County, securing a B.A. degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a master?s degree from West Virginia University. He served his 32-year career at Buckhannon-Upshur High School teaching history and social studies from 1949 to 1982 when he retired.

He was active in the United Methodist Church and served in a number of capacities in community service. He was a member of the Gideons.

He was distinguished by his knowledge, his easy disposition, but most of, by his kindness.

Private services will be held.

The Heavner and Cutright Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mabel V. Cogar

Mabel V. Cogar, 63, of Orr St., Buckhannon, died Thursday, April 27, 2006 under the care of St. Joseph?s Hospice. She was born April 25, 1943 in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Edward Kittle and Gracie Allen McClure Kittle Sanders.

She is survived by her husband, Donald R. Cogar. Also surviving are five daughters: Doris Simmons of Gerard, Ill., Angela Catlin of Buckhannon, Melody Skidmore of Philippi, and Sonya and Tonya Cogar, both of Buckhannon; two sons: Allen Tenney of French Creek and Scott Tenney of Weston; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild due in September.

She is also survived by four sisters: Betty Arnold and Nora Simons both of Greenwich, Ohio; Evelyn Thompson of California and Carol Ann Sanders of Czar; and one brother, Johnny Kittle of French Creek.

She also has adopted family suriving: Fallon Jones of Buckhannon and Joel E. Jones of Rock Cave. She is survived by her ex-husband, Freeman Tenney.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Umbright, infant brother, Charles Kittle and infant sister, Dorothy Jean Riggleman.

Mabel was a Methodist by faith.

Friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Home on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the funeral hour, with Rev. Robert Heavner officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Dale Cemetery. The Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Helen J. Craig

Helen J. Craig, 70, of Buckhannon died Monday, April 24, 2006, at St. Joseph?s Hospital. She was born September 26, 1935, in Cleveland, a daughter of the late Laben McCartney and Lelah Armstrong McCartney. She was united in marriage August 25, 1958 to Donald R. Craig, who survives.

Also surviving is a daughter Marilyn Moore of Rose Dale; brother Junior McCartney of Frederick, Md. and grandson Kevin Moore of Norfolk, Va.

In addition to her parents also preceding her in death were son Donald Wayne Craig and two brothers: Bobby Ray McCartney and Jack McCartney.

Mrs. Craig was an aid worker for the state hospital. She was a Christian by faith.

The graveside services were held 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2006 at the Heavner Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Lowther officiating. The Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
