Frances V. Bumgardner
(of Independence Twp.)
Frances V. Bumgardner, 81 of Independence Twp., PA passed away Saturday, February 17, 2007 at the Beaver Medical Center.
Born Sept. 11, 1925 in Barbour County, WV, she is a daughter of the late Murrell and Lorene Nutter. Grandma enjoyed playing bingo, making banana bread and camping. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald G. Bumgardner.
She is survived by a son, Donald Lynn Bumgardner and wife Mary Jane of Independence Twp.; a daughter, Nancy Riley of Coraopolis, PA; 6 grandsons, Bob, Rick, Brad and Chad Riley and Mike and Shawn Bumgardner. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa, and Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Poling-St.Clair Funeral Home, Buckhanon, WV, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10am with the Rev. Dave Brown officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery at Philippi, WV.

Pamela Jane Butcher
Pamela Jane Butcher, age 59, of Buckhannon, WV died at 3:43 PM on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at her home. She was born March 23, 1948 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Ralph H. and Mary L. Bailey Harper. On March 9, 1968 she married Rev. Charles Donald Butcher who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Traci Dunmire and husband Todd of Hurricane, WV; one son, Brock Alex Butcher of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Allison Clair Dunmire of Hurricane; one grandson, Cameron Todd Dunmire of Hurricane; one brother, Mark Harper and wife Tia of Buckhannon; two sisters, Rebecca Lynn Harper of East Liverpool, OH and Jeannie Rylands and husband CJ of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews. Pamela was a Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and a homemaker. She had been a member of the Buckhannon Jay-cee Ettes, the Buckhannon Red Hats, president of the Circle of Friends Book Club, the Modern Homettes and a member of the Beechtown Cemetery Association. Pamela had belonged to the First Baptist Church for 35 Plus years and was a member of the Sand Run Baptist Church, Pickens Baptist and Wayside Baptist Churches. She had served as Vacation Bible School Directors, organized Christmas plays and was a Sunday School Teacher. Since the 1970s she had served as Womens Bible Study Leader, Ladies Bible Discipleship Leader and instructed Young Christians with Christ Feed My Lambs Class. She had also served as youth leader at various times and churches. Pamela had toured the East Coast with the International Christian Choir, the Continentals. Friends will be received Sunday, May 20, 2007 from 2-4 PM the funeral hour at the First Baptist Church with Helen Reger officiating. Burial will follow in the Beechtown Cemetery with private family graveside services. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Beechtown Cemetery in c/o Lynn Helmick, PO Box 132, French Creek, WV 26218. Poling-St.Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

David M. Black
David M. Black, age 87, of Buckhannon, WV, died Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born December 22, 1919 in Buckhannon, a son of the late William D. and Vira Sims Black. At Mr. Blacks request he will be cremated with no services.

Susan Katherine Katie Beer
Susan Katherine Katie Beer, age 85, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, July 8, 2007 at St. Josephs Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born September 22, 1921 in Palace Valley, WV, a daughter of the late Luther and Ella Cutright Shahan. On December 12, 1942 she married James M. Chub Beer who survives. Also surviving are two sons, James M. Beer II and wife Barbara of Morgantown, WV and Stephen K. Beer also of Morgantown; two step granddaughters, Autumn McDaniel of Morgantown and Amber Nearranzio of Latrobe, PA and four great grandchildren. In addition to her parents Katie was preceded in death by a brother, Ruskin Shahan and three sisters, Joy Shahan, Eleanor Hollen and Beryl Samples. Mrs. Beer was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and the Elizabeth Zane Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Friends will be received Monday, July 9, 2007 from 5 to 8 PM at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Gary Stackpole officiating. Burial will follow in the Hampton Church Cemetery at Hampton, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gilbert Leroy Baxa
Gilbert Leroy Baxa, age 91, of 74 S. Florida St. Buckhannon, WV, died Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at the Louis A Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born April 3, 1916 in Eden, WV, a son of the late Joseph Alexander Baxa and Victoria Lucinda Hawkins Baxa Page. On October 10, 1946 he was married to Brenda Ruby Ours who preceded him in death August 05, 1995. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Elam Baxa, Denzil Baxa, Vorice Baxa, Raymond Page and Jimmy Page; three sisters, Grace Smith, Margaret Alexander and Vernie Gibson. Mr. Baxa is survived by one daughter, Carol Meese and husband Charles of Barton, MD; one son, David Baxa and wife Barbara of Buckhannon; one grandson, Timothy Baxa of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Caraline Baxa of Morgantown, WV and Laura Meese of Frostburg, MD; one brother, Russell O. Baxa of North Hampton, MA; one sister, Irene Clark of Buckhannon. He was a general contractor, a bee keeper, a member of Chapel Hill United Church and had been very active in the church over the years, he served in the US Army during WW II and was a member of Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Friday, August 24, 2007 from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, August 25 at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Stackpole and Rev. Billee Scott Mick officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery. Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7, DAV Chapters # 5 and # 36 will conduct military honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jerry George Washington Beckner
Jerry George Washington Beckner, age 62, of Old Fields, WV passed this life on Friday, August 31, 2007 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, MD. Born on August 21, 1945 in Buckhannon, WV he was a son of the late Robert James and Clara (Smith) Beckner. In addition to his parents Mr. Beckner was preceded in death by one sister and one brother. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Kahlbaugh Beckner of Old Fields. Mr. Beckner is also survived by two daughters, Gerry R. Parsons of Taylorsville, NC, Jeani G. See of Moorefield, WV, two stepdaughters, Gretchen Gould of New Creek, WV, Teresa Crislip of Helvetia, WV, one son Robert Lee Beckner of Hiddenite, NC, three stepsons, Michael Gould of Old Field, James Kahlbaugh of Charles Town, WV, and Donald Kahlbaugh of Lexington, KY, three sister Diane Thompson of Cleveland, OH, Sylvia Jean Wolford of Buckhannon, and Anita Harris of Kessel Mill, WV, five brothers Roger Beckner, Barry Beckner, Ronnie Beckner, Randy Beckner all of Buckhannon and Jackie Beckner of Cleveland, OH. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. Mr. Beckner was a member of the Living Waters Ministry in Buckhannon, and a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry. Friend will be received from 6-8 pm, Saturday September 1, 2007 at the Elmore Funeral Home in Moorefield, WV and at the Poling- St. Clair Funeral Home from 6-8 Sunday, September 2, 2007. Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Monday, September 3, 2007 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Mt. Union Cemetery in Mt. Union. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

John Anthony Burr
John Anthony Burr, age 60, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, September 17, 2007 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born December 30, 1946 in Weston, WV, a son of the late Claude W. and Jennie Stalnaker Burr. He is survived by two sons, John Greg Burr and wife Amanda of Cottage Grove, OR and Douglas Scott Burr and wife Eileen of Huntington Beach, CA; two granddaughters, Isabella Burr of Huntington Beach, CA and Lia Burr of Huntington Beach; one sister, Tammy Cross of Sistersville, WV and companion, Wanda Donahue of Buckhannon. Friends will be received Friday, September 21, 2007 from 5-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Horner Cemetery at Horner, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jeanetta (Judy) Arlene Butcher
Jeanetta (Judy) Arlene Butcher, age 84, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, September 21, 2007 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. She was born February 18, 1923 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Forest and Amy Craven Beer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Zane, Lyndon and Robert Beer. She is survived by three sons, Sid Butcher, Richard Butcher and Gary Butcher all of Buckhannon; three granddaughters, Dawn Butcher, Jessica Butcher and Kyra Ann Butcher all of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Avis Reed and husband Dean Max of Buckhannon and Evelyn Riffle of Buckhannon; two sister-in-laws, Wanna Beer and Joann Beer both of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Butcher was a teller for Central National Bank of Buckhannon. She was a Methodist by faith, a member of the Ladies of the Moose and the Upshur County EMS. Friends will be received Monday, September 24, 2007 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmie A. Bennett
Jimmie A. Bennett, 74, of Buckhannon, WV went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2007 following a sudden illness. He was born in Webster County on April 8, 1933 to Marion O. and Nancy E. Gregory Bennett. On May 27, 1955 he was united in marriage to Judy Gregory. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joey A. Bennett; two brothers, Charles and Bill and six sisters, Edith, Faye, Nina, Ruth, Jessie and Ruby. He leaves behind his best friend and wife Judy A. Bennett; one daughter, Janet Bennett McDaniels and husband Ed of Buckhannon; one son, Jeff Bennett and wife Brenda of Buckhannon; one daughter in law, Sue Bennett of Buckhannon. He was lovingly known as Pop to his grandchildren. They include Matt McDaniels and wife Becky of Inman, SC, Andrew McDaniels, Tyler Bennett and Jonathan McDaniels of Buckhannon, Amy Bennett Chapman and husband Ty of Buckhannon, Whitney Bennett, Alexis McDaniels and Cora McDaniels of Buckhannon and one great granddaughter, Shelby Lynn McDaniels. Also Surviving are one brother, Junior Bennett of Webster Springs and a sister, Louise Zirkle of Carlsbad, NM along with several nieces and nephews. He graduated from Webster Springs High School in 1950. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a graduate of WV Business College and retired from Moore Business Forms in 1990. He was a long time Boy Scout Leader and dedicated B-U Athletic Booster and supporter. Jim was dedicated to his family, friends and to his faith. He loved working in his flowers and enjoyed woodworking. He was also well known for making delicious Christmas fudge. He was an active member of Christian Fellowship Church and supported it with his presence and prayers. Visitation will be held on Thursday at Christian Fellowship Church on Norvell Drive from 4-9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 PM at the church with his son-in-law J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow at the Heavner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Christian Fellowship Church, P. O. Box 1198, Buckhannon, WV 26201. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Jimmie A. Bennett.

Mildred Booth
Mildred Lea Mil Booth, age 61, of Ellamore, WV, died Monday, October 08, 2007 at her daughters home. She was born on May 6, 1946 in Randolph County a daughter of the late Rondel Carl Beam and Emma Carpenter Beam-Sims. On June 5, 1964 she married Garvin Heavy Booth who preceded her in death May 15, 1994. She is survived by two daughters, Georgetta Forshey and husband Donald of Buckhannon, WV, and Sheryl S. Dean and husband Wayne of Buckhannon; one son, Garvin J. Booth, II and wife Teresa of Ellamore; two grandsons, Cody Allen Dean of Buckhannon, and Garvin J. Booth, III of Ellamore; five granddaughters, Shayna Lea Forshey of Buckhannon, Tracee Ellyn Forshey of Buckhannon, Heather Nicole Dean of Buckhannon, Chelsea Lynn Booth of Ellamore, and Taylor Lea Booth of Ellamore; one brother, Thomas Ray Beam of Ellamore; five sisters, Phyllis Ellen Wamsley of Buckhannon, Brenda Kay Hamilton of Ellamore, Carolyn June Williams of Ellamore, Barbara Jean Cerullo of Buckhannon, and Debra Lynn Sims of Ellamore, mother-in-law, Mary Madelene Booth of Buckhannon; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Beam of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one brother Marvin Carl Beam and one sister Connie Maxine Gower. She was a machine operator at Upnor and a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church. She was a devout Christian by faith. Friends will be received from 7-9 PM, Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday where she will lie in state from 10-11 AM at the Fairview United Methodist Church in Ellamore, WV with the Reverends Mitch Griffin and Tim Kelley officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Church Cemetery in Ellamore. In lieu of flowers contribution may be made to the Fairview Cemetery Fund in c/o Clayton Tenney Rt 2 Box 227 Buckhannon, WV 26201. Opal Bland
Opal Bland, age 96, of Jane Lew, WV died Monday, October 29, 2007 at Crestview Manor. She was born September 25, 1911 in Taylor County, WV, a daughter of the late Truman and Flora Maxwell Riley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Walter Rush who died on Oct. 21, 1966 and 2nd husband, William Bland who died January 26, 1994; one daughter, Betty R. Miller; four brothers, Ernest, Leo, Thomas and Truman R. Riley, Jr. and one sister, Louise Riley. She is survived by one daughter, Clara Nell Weaver of Buckhannon; one son, John R. Rush and wife Patricia of Sistersville, WV; five grandsons, Thomas F. Weaver, III and wife Glenna of Columbus, OH, Russell L. Weaver and wife Linda of French Creek, WV, Steven Reger of Cincinnati, OH, Robert Reger and wife Chris of Port St. Lucie, FL and John R. Rush, II of Bridgeport, WV; one granddaughter, Catherine L. Miller and husband Tom of Cincinnati; eleven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bland was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and she enjoyed her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Queen Esther Chapter Eastern Star of Clarksburg. Friends will be received Thursday, November 1, 2007 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard McGuire officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Salem, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Naomi Sarah Hanifan Richards Brant
Naomi Sarah Hanifan Richards Brant, age 84, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, January 20, 2008 at Paulas Home Care under the care of St. Josephs Hospice. She was born May 31, 1923 in Cubana, WV, a daughter of the late Jess and Lola Zickefoose Hanifan. Sarah was also preceded in death by her first husband, Job Richards; her second husband, Ashley Brant; three brothers, Jess Oliver, Calvin and Stafford Hanifan and four sisters, Genieve Phipps, Dessie Hanifan, Helen Lee Wagner and Adis Corrick. Mrs. Brant is survived by two sons, Marvin Hanifan and wife Dottie of Buckhannon and Richard Hanifan Bigler and wife Diana of Clarksville, GA; two brothers, Jerry Maynard Hanifan and wife Luella of Buckhannon and Norman Denver Hanifan and wife Hilda of Tallmansville; three sisters, Lottie Lewis and husband Earl of Buckhannon, Margaret Ann Simmons of Cassidy, WV and Doris Talbott and husband Robert of AZ; four granddaughters, Donna Kay Woody and husband Delmas of Buckhannon, Denise Matthey and husband Bruce of Buckhannon, Becky Gifford and husband Kris of Cibolo, TX and Bonni Bigler of Atlanta, GA and five great grandchildren, Jessica Woody, Joshua and Kayla Matthey, and Olivia and Colin Gifford. Mrs. Brant was a homemaker and a United Methodist. Friends will be received Tuesday, January 22, 2008 from 4 to 8 PM with a funeral service to follow. Rev. Weese Day will be officiating the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, 19 Woody Drive, Buckhannon, WV 26201. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
